Zementierverfahren für Eisen und Stahl mittels Kohle.Cementing process for iron and steel using coal.
The present invention relates to a method for cementing metals, especially of iron plates.
The process consists essentially in one of the coal used Pure silica is added. It is advantageous to use charcoal, which is obtained exclusively by charring spruce bark; the latter addition allows it is that the increase in carbon in the iron falls off more gradually than when using ordinary charcoal.
The extent to which the silica is directly involved in the cementing process can be determined do not specify; it is possible that they are only used as a filler or diluent Coal is used. The bodies previously used for this purpose, such as glass and ashes, however, the new remedy differs significantly from that in that it does not have any Contains foreign admixtures, their detrimental effect on the cementation process is not excluded; Furthermore, the new process enables manufacturers to to always achieve a cementing powder of uniform composition, which is what the fluctuating compositions of the agents used up to now is excluded.
But above all, in contrast to other additives (ashes), effects based on experience the inventor of the silica additive that the carbon content equals from the surface does not exceed the permissible level of ο, α percent, while, going in depth, only falls off very gradually.
The previously common surcharges also had, as the inventor by comparative Experiments revealed the problem that the top layer absorbed too much carbon, hence became crystalline, and further that the carbon suddenly dropped inwardly.
If an armor plate or another object is to be cemented, the procedure is generally in the manner that has hitherto been used when cementing armor plates; only the thickness of the charcoal layer on the surface to be cemented is reduced very considerably, as is the thickness of the sand layer on the surface to be protected. In this way it is possible to bring the board to be cemented to the desired temperature in a shorter time than was usual in other conventional processes, and that the cementing temperature can be reached in 2 to 3 days, and then the cementing process to to a depth of 12 to 20 mm in 2 to 4 days. v
Mit vorliegender Erfindung kann eine viel dünnere Sand- und Holzkohlenschicht verwendet werden, weil eine geringere Menge der aus Fichtenrinde erhaltenen Kohlen und Kieselsäure die Zementierung in einer weit kürzeren Zeit erreicht als gewöhnliche Holzkohle oder andere bisher gebräuchliche Mischungen; die Platte verbleibt somit in dem Ofen eineA much thinner layer of sand and charcoal can be used with the present invention because a smaller amount of the charcoal and silica obtained from spruce bark the cementation achieved in a far shorter time than ordinary charcoal or other previously used mixtures; the plate thus remains in the oven
kurze Zeit, so daß keine Gefahr für die Platte vorhanden ist, durch Feuer zerstört zu werden. short time so that there is no danger for the plate to be destroyed by fire.
abzuweichen.Another essential advantage of the invention is that, while it is not possible with the methods conventionally used to date to achieve a thin cemented plate, according to the present method plates of 25 mm thickness up to a thickness of 1.5 mm or even more less able to cement; this is particularly important for the construction of warships, where even thin panels are required.
It has been found that the best results are obtained with a mixture of 50 to 75 parts by weight of coal produced from the bark of spruce according to patent 171837 and 25 to 30 parts by weight of finely powdered pure silica. However, these relationships can be changed without departing from the essence of the present invention.
Even when using ordinary charcoal, which is within the meaning of the present invention is mixed with silica, one obtains results, even if not so excellent, as with the use of coal made from resin-rich material, so at least far better results than the coal mixtures previously used in the cementing process. In general, according to the present invention, plates are obtained which, in comparison with those according to previously known and conventional cementing processes have greater hardness, although the amount of coal that can be detected by analysis in the new plates is lower.
