Falls man von einer Lösung ausgegangen ist, bei welcher auf 100 Teile Wasser etwa 150 Teile Ammoniumsulfat nebst der entsprechenden Menge Natriumnitrat kamen, so liegt die genannte Absättigungsgrenze für das Ammoniumnitrat bei etwa 18° C. Nach Trennung des Doppelsalzes von der nunmehr vorliegenden Mutterlauge wird, gegebenenfalls nach vorhergehendem Konzentrieren, die Lösung rasch, vorteilhaft unter 50 C, abgekühlt, wodurch Ammoniumnitrat mit nur unwesentlichen Mengen von Sulfat zur Ausscheidung gelangt.
