Description

Electrical insulator made of glass or the like .. in particular for cable end closures Electrical insulators made of glass can only be produced by casting or pressing in molds, and it is not economically feasible to make the insulators in one piece with shields. that are bent down on your hand to form dry zones on the underside of the umbrella. The customary insulators made of glass therefore usually have simple shields that protrude vertically from the shank of the insulator and are flat or outwardly tapered in disc shape. The same applies, for example, to insulators made of cast resin, which can also only be produced in molds. When it rains, such insulators have a significantly lower flashover voltage than porcelain insulators with drying barrels on the underside of the screen, since the rainwater also runs along the underside of the screens and electrically conductive moisture strips are formed along the entire surface of the insulator. In schirmlonen porcelain insulators Is en become committed by the United States Patent, 1 751 5M, anzubri a thin-walled Notallhaube at the insulator head length n. That the entire upper half of the leolatorn covered. The formation of continuous conductive moisture tracks along the inolators is thus avoided. At the same time, however, the rollover path in air is considerably shortened by the metallic screen that extends over a large part of the insulator. According to German utility model step 1 820 875 , an insulator made of cast resin has already been arranged over its entire length inside a hood made of Isollerstott, so that the entire surface of the insulator remains dry when it rains. However, this hood requires considerable effort, especially at higher voltages, and increases the diameter of the arrangement considerably.

According to the invention, the axial length of the hood which surrounds the insulator made of glass or the like at a distance and attached to the insulator head is such that it only reaches down over the highest part of the insulator bounded by the uppermost screen. Surprisingly, it has been shown that even with such a short hood that only a comparatively short dry zone along the outer surface of the insulator shadows the breakdown voltage of the insulator by about 50% and more.

The invention is particularly applicable to insulators for cable terminations in question. The hood attached according to the invention is preferably made of Isollerstott. But it can also be made of metal, since its axial length is so small is that this did not significantly reduce the electrical rollover path in air will. The hood can be screwed to the isolator optic. Preferably the attached to the insulator head by gluing.
