Process for improving the sedimentation properties and the
Filterability of water From water that contains only a few filterable turbid substances,
can be very fine or colloidal organic and inorganic impurities
sediment slowly and imperfectly. That from the application of the flocculation chemicals
resulting flocculation product compacts only slowly and can therefore
also do not separate completely through sedimentation. The compression of the flocculation products
can be done by adding organic or inorganic flocculants.
Such treatment usually gives a uniform well by sedimentation
separable flocculation product. Most of the previously known organic fixatives
are not approved for the treatment of drinking water. Also in the preparation
of manufacturing and service water there are many concerns about its use
these substances. In many cases, therefore, solcb.er 'Näsger @ n.orga.niche
Flocculants and sedimentation aids preferred. The most famous substances of this
Kind are activated silicic acid and limestone powder (calcium carbonate). The application
activated silica often has the disadvantage that the water clarified with it
is difficult to filter, which is evident from the rapid clogging of the filters.
Lime flour is therefore increasingly being used as a flocculant.
By adding limestone powder (calcium carbonate) when treating water with a low level of turbidity with flocculants, the number of flocculation germs is increased, which results in faster and better flocculation of the impurities by means of the added flocculation chemicals. In addition, the flocculation product is compacted and weighed down by adding ground calcium carbonate, so that the sedimentation also proceeds more quickly and more evenly. For technical reasons, finely ground and sieved natural limestone is generally used for water treatment. It is also possible to produce the calcium carbonate by precipitation from solutions containing lime.
ausreichende Menge an Kalziumkarbonat entsteht.
B e i s p i e 1

When using aluminum sulphate as a flocculant, it is known to add lime or soda to the raw water beforehand in soft water that contains little carbonate of lime in order to achieve a good flocculation. Liming can also take place in such a way that the water is previously allowed to flow through a layer of lime or marble. Goal of. The present invention is to improve the sedimentation properties and the filterability of waters which contain fine or colloidal organic and inorganic impurities and are poor in filterable solids. The invention relates to a method for improving the sedimentation properties and the filterability of waters that are poor in filterable substances by adding flocculants and hydrated lime or calcium carbonate. The method according to the invention is characterized in that a suspension of calcium carbonate is produced in a partial flow of the water to be treated by adding calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide and / or soluble hydroxides, carbonates or eic carbonates and the partial flow before the addition of the #? Lockungamitt @ le is mixed with the main stream. The chemicals added to the partial flow for the purpose of calcium carbonate formation are expediently dimensioned so that an equilibrium water results after mixing the partial flow containing calcium carbonate with the main flow and clarifying the mixture. The natural lime or carbonic acid content of the water to be treated can be used to form the calcium carbonate precipitate. In this case it is advisable to dimension the branched off partial flow of the raw water in which the calcium carbonate precipitation is carried out so that an equilibrium water is present after the subsequent joint flocculation and clarification. The surprising technical progress achieved by producing a calcium carbonate suspension in a partial flow and mixing the partial flow suspension with the main flow prior to the addition of the flocculant in terms of improving the sedimentation properties and filterability could not be foreseen in the prior art. The process according to the invention is carried out, for example, in such a way that a partial flow is branched off from the raw water inflow and passed through a reactor with a mixer. In this reactor, this substream receives additions of calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide and / or soluble hydroxides, carbonates or bicarbonates in such amounts that, taking into account the natural content of calcium ions and / or carbonates in the water, a sufficient amount of calcium carbonate is formed as a flocculant. The suspension of calcium carbonate formed in the reactor is then mixed with the main flow of the raw water, and the mixture is in known reaction and clarification tanks after the addition of flocculants, e.g. B. iron sulfate, aluminum sulfate or the like treated. The partial flow of the raw water branched off into the precipitation reactor is, if necessary, measured according to the lime or carbonate content of the raw water. Example 1 To supply a city with drinking water, 1,400 m3 of low-cloudiness with colloidal organic substances, but relatively heavily contaminated surface water, are cleaned every hour by flocculation and subsequent filtration through a gravel filter the carbonate hardness and the carbonic acid treated. The raw water has a carbonate hardness of 8 0 d8. The amount of lime is measured in such a way that the water after the actual treatment plant is in lime-carbonic acid equilibrium. f _ The partial flow treated with hydrated lime, which contains the precipitated calcium carbonate in suspended form, flows with a free gradient to the remaining, larger untreated amount of raw water and, after careful mixing, is cleaned in a flocculation plant with the addition of aluminum sulfate. The water flowing out of this system is almost free of solids, is in the carbonic acid equilibrium and is easy to filter. In the following table, the results of this preparation are compared with the results obtained by treating the water without partial flow treatment with activated silica or with calcareous powder. The table shows that the values listed in column 1, which were obtained by the process according to the invention, are superior to the corresponding values of the other two procedures in columns 2 to 4. The water treated according to the invention can be filtered much better and is also stable, ie in carbonic acid equilibrium.
