Unter dem eigentlichen Federhalter ist ein kammartig gestalteter Körper α aus Horn oder ähnlicher Substanz, die durch die Dinten nicht angegriffen und zersetzt wird, eingefügt. Dieser Körper α nimmt zwischen den Kammzähnen und in den Schlitzen eine grofse Quantität Dinte beim Eintauchen auf, übt auf dieselbe eine starke Attraction aus, so dafs sie bei der Schreibbewegung nicht abtropft, und führt die Dinte vermittelst des vorspringenden, mittleren Kammzahnes der Federspalte continuirlich und regelmäfsig zu. Die Form des den Dintenvorrath haltenden Kammes α ist variabel; seine Construction hat indessen stets die Bedingungen zu erfüllen, dafs einer oder einige der Zähne oder Theile bis an die Spalte hingeführt wird und alle Theile des Kammes sowohl in den Spalten als in den Abständen seiner Oberfläche von den Oberflächen der Feder so angeordnet sind, dafs die Zwischenräume gleichsam durch Capillarattraction die Dintenflüssigkeit festhalten.A comb-shaped body α made of horn or a similar substance, which is not attacked and decomposed by the inks, is inserted under the actual pen holder. Am bequemsten ordnet sich der Apparat so an, dafs die Vorrichtung d zum Einstecken der Feder so hergerichtet ist, dafs die Feder oberhalb des den Halter bildenden Bleches sitzt und die haltenden Umbiegungen der Lappen statt nach unten nach oben gerichtet sind, so dafs die Feder c selbst oben aufliegt. Es hat dies den Vortheil, dafs der die Dinte haltende Raum unverändert bleibt, wenn auch etwa die Feder ausgewechselt wird, ein Beschmutzen der Finger ganz ausgeschlossen ist und die Feder selbst mehr geschont wird. Ein Ring h sitzt auf der mit einer Rinne f versehenen Halterhülse und trägt einen Ansatz e mit umgebogener Spitze. Letztere legt sich hinter den Endrand der Feder c. Bei Verschieben des Ringes b kann man die Feder leicht aus dem Halter heraustreiben und abwerfen, aber dieser kleine Apparat dient auch dazu, die diversen und in der Gröfse und dem Federspalt wesentlich variirenden Federn geeignet zum Kamm' einzustellen.
