Das Lineal besteht aus einer rechteckigen Schiene a, welche beispielsweise die Theilungen von 5 bis 50 cm trägt. In dieser Stellung schneidet der Innenrand des Schenkels b mit dem 10 cm Punkte der Schiene a ab (Fig. 3), während in gestreckter Stellung des Schenkels die Schienentheilung auf letzterem fortgesetzt wird und eine Länge von 50 cm erreicht. Auf der Schiene α ist am Stifte d und an der Schraube e ein Zeiger c so befestigt, dafs er mit seiner Spitze auf der Gradeintheilung des beweglichen Schenkels die Winkelstellung des letzteren mit der der Schiene α anzeigt. Zu beiden Seiten der Schiene sind Leisten f zur Verstärkung und zum Schütze des Lineals angebracht.
