Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The subject of the invention is a teaching aid for teaching mathematics Geography and elementary astronomy, which the apparent movements and orbits of the stars on the apparent Vault of Heaven illustrated. The subject matter of this invention is now illustrative of all processes in heaven, which have their real reason in the rotation of the earth around its axis, the But people present themselves as repetitive phenomena in the sky. Mediating of the devices known up to now for displaying the apparent movements and orbits of the stars it was not possible to trace their course below the horizon track, and observations over the horizon were only possible when the Student could look down at the machine. Neither upper nor lower could do the same Culmination of a star, polar height or latitude can be determined. These Deficiencies are eliminated by the present invention.
In the drawing, the apparatus is shown in a front view.
On a foot α sits a degree curve b, on which a forked bolt Z is slidably slid and can be locked by screw g . A ball e made of transparent material, e.g. B. glass, etc., is rotatably mounted on the bolt Z by holder f and provided with the most necessary lines, such as equatorial circle, polar circles and ecliptic. In the bolt / held and running through the entire sphere Z there is a pin / which represents the earth's axis and carries the earth's sphere k in the center of the sphere. A horizontal brass hoop c, which is carried by the degree arch and a holder h , represents the apparent horizon of that observation place on earth, the geographical latitude of which has been set on the divided degree arch. On the hoop c sits a vertical hoop d that spans the sphere e , which can be easily removed and represents the celestial meridian of the relevant earth location. This tire is completed by the degree curve b to form a closed ring.
As already mentioned, only a few circles have been drawn on the sphere e ; on the other hand, it can be written on with a specially prepared pencil or glued on with wafers, strips of paper, etc., in order to show the position of the stars in relation to one another and their apparent movement around the earth . The individual constellations can be applied and removed again in any way, and only the object to be represented is on the ball so that the student is not distracted or confused by other notes. The student can easily imagine such. B. the moon looks in different places and at different times by thinking of itself standing on the sphere k, the image of the earth, and then
The apparent movements and paths of the stars can be followed along their entire path, even if the pupil looks up at the apparatus from below, which is usually the case in class. Since the meridian continues beyond the pole, the difference between the upper and lower culmination of a star can easily be made clear. The fact that a pole can be viewed freely makes it possible to demonstrate the cutting of the various meridians and the determination of the geographical latitude or height of the pole.
