Description
Precious metal alloy based on gold-palladium with high specificity electrical resistance In the course of the miniaturization of parts of electrical resp. electronic devices one strives to z. B. for potentiometers or similar electrical Devices to use alloys that have the highest possible specific electrical Have resistance. In addition, these alloys should have other properties, such as the low temperature coefficient of the specific electrical resistance, high abrasion resistance, low thermal voltage against copper, corrosion resistance, constant resistance with long service life and low and constant contact resistance, exhibit.
So sind z.B. schon Pd/W-, Pd/Mo-, Pt/Cu/Ni-, Pd/V-, Pd/Ti-Legierungen u. a. in. beschrieben worden. Some of these requirements are excellently met by alloys that consist only of precious metals. So far, however, no base metal-free alloy is known that has a specific electrical resistance of more than approximately 50 [t9 - cm. Base metals are therefore added to achieve higher specific electrical resistances. Numerous alloys of this type are already known which, in addition to one or more noble metals such as platinum, gold, palladium and the like, have very different additions of base metals. For example, Pd / W, Pd / Mo, Pt / Cu / Ni, Pd / V, Pd / Ti alloys have already been described in, among others.
In addition, there are already alloys of the three-component system gold-palladium-iron became known, especially because they are after a special heat treatment for In some cases, very high values of the specific electrical resistance can be achieved.
Without this heat treatment, these leaks have only relatively low specific electrical resistances between about 40 and 80 #tQ - cm. The special heat treatment consists in tempering the alloys after soft annealing at 7501 C for up to 24 hours at temperatures between 300 and 6001 ° C. The highest specific electrical resistance that can be achieved in this way is 199 [tQ - cm and is achieved with a gold-palladium-iron alloy with 49.5 / 40.5 / 10 percent by weight.
For the practice allerdin-s is a potentiometer wire, which by tempering on z. B. 300 ° C the required resistance value was impressed, not very suitable. ce. - zn ZD because this resistance value will change when the potentiometer becomes warm in use.
It has now been found that quaternary deposits with 18 to 75% gold, 75 to 20% palladium, 2 to 1511 / o iron and 0.4 to 1.211 / o aluminum as required have a high specific electrical resistance and are therefore used as resistance wire, z. B. are suitable for potentiometers.
There are alloys for loading in Potentiometerdrähte known (British Patent 861,646), which consist of gold, palladium, and molybdenum with a molybdenum content is mandatory. Iron should only be added to these alloys for modification. In contrast, the alloys according to the invention contain no molybdenum, while the iron content is greater than the aluminum content. The advantage of the alloys of the invention is that a wide range of resistance values can be prepared by suitable composition of the alloy, from a lower limit of 75 # t9 - cm up to an upper limit of 230 ft9 - cm. Such a broad resistance range is always required in practice in order to be able to produce potentiometers of different resistance values without changing the other operating conditions. The alloys according to the aforementioned British patent only have a resistance range of about 80 to 125 g9 - cm.
It has also already been proposed (German Auslegeschrift 1 121 339), as an alloy for potentiometer wires, gold with an addition of 1 to 5 1 / o titanium, 3 to 8 %. Iron and optionally up to 65 %, especially 10 to 5511 / o, palladium to be used. These alloys have the disadvantage that they are difficult to produce in a reproducible manner due to the known high reactivity of titanium with oxygen or ceramic materials.
The alloys according to the invention differ in their composition of the known gold-palladium-iron alloys mainly in that they Contains 0.4 to 1.2% aluminum. This seemingly insignificant addition has the unexpected and surprising effect that he is the tempering treatment makes superfluous, which is crucial for gold-palladium-iron alloys is.
In the production of the alloys according to the invention, a final annealing of 0.5 hours at 800 to 900 ° C. with subsequent practically any type of cooling is sufficient. It has been found that on cooling in the furnace (duration of cooling from 900 'C to room temperature for about 10 hours), at a cooling period of 10 minutes for the same temperature range and at normal cooling in air by taking the samples from the oven at 900 ° C. (cooling time approx. 30 seconds) practically in every case the same specific electrical resistance is established for a certain alloy. Even a rugged waste scare of annealing temperature in ice water changes the electrical resistivity of only about 3 to 511o. A further increase in the specific electrical resistance by annealing at 400 to 500 ° C, corresponding to the known alloys without the addition of aluminum, is not possible.
Another advantage of the alloys according to the invention is the fact that even higher specific electrical resistances can be achieved with them than with the gold-palladium-iron alloys in the tempered state. The highest specific electrical resistance found is 50% palladium, 3811 / o gold, 11% iron and 1% aluminum with 230 [tQ - cm.
This maximum is therefore without compared to the corresponding alloys Aluminum not only has a higher electrical resistivity, but also shifted to lower gold grades, which has two further advantages. On the one hand, part of the gold is replaced by the cheaper palladium, on the other hand the specific weight of the alloys is lower, which is one per unit weight larger amount of wire results.
The specific electrical resistance of the alloys according to the invention passes through a flat maximum when the aluminum content changes at 1.0 1 / o aluminum. It has been shown that with additions of 0.9 to 1.1 % aluminum, practically the same specific electrical resistance occurs. This circumstance proves to be advantageous in the production process, insofar as during the melting a consumption of up to 10 1 / o of ammonium can be accepted without hesitation and a great uniformity of the specific electrical resistance is nevertheless guaranteed.
The alloys do not reach their maximum resistance in the deformed, but in the soft-annealed condition. They are therefore of particular constancy of resistance over long periods of use and even when heated above use temperature.
The alloys according to the invention are within the range of 18 to 75 % gold, 75 to 20% palladium, 2 to 1511 / o iron and 0.4 to 1.2% aluminum. From b. 1 clearly delimits this area. In addition, Ab b. 1 the lines of the same specific electrical resistance plotted against the concentration. From b. In comparison, FIG. 2 gives the resistance values of the known gold-palladium-iron alloys without the addition of aluminum and without tempering.
The thermal voltage of the alloys against copper passes through the zero value with increasing iron content, coming from negative values, becomes weakly positive and then drops again to negative values. From b. 3 shows the hatched area in which the thermal voltage against copper is either zero or weakly positive or negative.
