Die neue Schutzvorrichtung für Wasserstandzeiger an Dampfkesseln besteht aus einem zweitheiligen, das Wasserstandglas dicht umschliefsenden starken Gehäuse aus Rothgufs, in dessen Vordertheil α sich zwei längliche Oeffnungen b befinden, welche mit Schau-, gläsern aus Hartglas versehen sind, durch die der Wasserstand von vorn und von den Seiten beobachtet werden kann. Der Vordertheil des Schutzgehäuses wird mit der Rückwand desselben um den Hals der oberen und unteren Stopfbüchsmuttern an dem Wasserstande mittelst der um die Bolzen/ beweglichen Schrauben s befestigt und ohne besondere Verpackung an bearbeiteten Dichtungsflächen dampfdicht geschlossen. Dieses Schutzgehäuse gewährt im Gegensatz zu den bisher gebräuchlichen, aus Drahtgeflecht, Eisenstäben, Blech- oder Glashülsen bestehenden Schutzvorrichtungen vollständige Sicherheit gegen Verletzungen durch umherfliegende Glassplitter und Verbrühen durch Dampf und Wasser beim Springen des Glases, indem dieses auf allen Seiten dicht schliefsende metallische Schutzgehäuse nicht allein die Glassplitter vollständig auffängt, sondern auch das Ausströmen von Dampf und Wasser selbst bei Dampfspannungen von zwölf und mehr Atmosphären verhütet. Das Wasserstandglas ist ferner durch dieses Schutzgehäuse sowohl gegen schädliche äufsere Einflüsse, wie Temperaturwechsel, Verrufsen und Beschmutzen beim Anheizen, als auch gegen äufsere Beschädigungen vollkommen gesichert.
