A wide variety of starting materials are used to produce flat structures from fibrous material used. Depending on the type of raw material and the working conditions, the end products have one diverse character.
Although the different fesar materials naturally require different working methods, the principle of the procedure is generally the same. The fibers are dispersed in a liquid, water if possible, and puts the pulp on transport sieves. The fleece webs thus formed are then if appropriate under the action of heat and / or pressure and / or adhesives, solidified. While this process generally poses no difficulties when using pulp, it is not possible to produce fibers from synthetic polymers without further ado according to those known in papermaking Processes.
A nonwoven web formed from the known synthetic fibers cannot be removed from the dewatering screen Transfer to another sieve or belt device without tearing or to pull apart because the cohesion of the fibers is too weak. Also, strength is one such a nonwoven web in the dry state extremely low. This is particularly due to that the synthetic fibers do not fibrillate in contrast to the natural cellulose fibers. However, since the good physical properties of fibers made of polyamides, polyesters or polypropylene etc., make their use for the production of flat structures of various types appear desirable, Efforts have been made to devise procedures which will overcome the difficulties outlined above can be.
Processes have become known, according to which the dispersion of synthetic fibers a certain amount, for example up to 30% pulp is added. It is obvious that the admixture of pulp the good properties of the synthetic fibers are not fully can come into effect.
Da die erwähnten Produkte im allgemeinen wasserlöslich sind, ist es unvermeidlich, daß ein gewisser Teil bereits bei derAnother method is to add substances to the fiber dispersions that have an adhesive effect and increase the viscosity of the dispersion. An example of such an additive is carboxymethyl cellulose known. In general, amounts of 0.1 to 1% of these agents, based on the dispersion liquid, added. This means that the fiber dispersion per part of fibers is about 10 parts or contains more additives. Since the products mentioned are generally water soluble, it is inevitable that some part is already at the

Drainage is removed. In these cases, the dispersion liquid must be circulated. The amounts of additives remaining in the fleece must generally be used during further processing or washed out of the finished product, as it affects the quality, d. H. Color, handle, etc., affect the end product.
There is another possibility for the production of flat structures from synthetic fibers in adding so-called "fibrids" to the fiber dispersion. These are very fine fiber products that for example, if you apply the solution of a high polymer at high speed to the Splashing the surface of a precipitation bath. The manufacture of »fibrids« and their use in processing of dispersions of synthetic fibers to paper webs or the like. Is for example in the Belgian patent 564206 described in detail. The use of "fibrids" leads to that these products also consist of synthetic polymers, to the desired result, however, may The fact that the processes for producing the "fibrids" are cumbersome and mostly are not neglected are expensive because large amounts of solvents and precipitants are moved and worked up have to.
Processes for producing fibrillating synthetic fibers have also been developed. These fibers can be used alone, but preferably also together with other synthetic fibers, to form sheets are processed. It is to be regarded as disadvantageous that the process for producing this Fibers deviate from conventional spinning processes or that the fibrillation is subsequently carried out by costly Milling operations must be effected.

Polyamide from adipic acid-hexamethylenediamine salt is spun in the usual way into a multifilament thread with a single titer of 1.4 denier. The threads are folded into a cable of around 89,000 den and the cable is stretched by 400%. Then cut to a length of 6 mm. 1 kg of these staple fibers is treated with a 2% solution of m-digallic acid in water. The pH of the bath is adjusted to 2.5, the bath temperature is 6O 0 C, the liquor ratio 1: 50 and the exposure time of tannin on the fibrous material about 1 minute. The treated fibers are then spun off in a centrifuge to a moisture content of about 30%. An aqueous dispersion made from these fibers and containing 0.2% fibers is processed into a nonwoven web, as described in Example 1. This nonwoven web also has sufficient strength to be rolled up and / or subjected to a subsequent treatment with liquid binders by dipping.
Polyamide made from caprolactam is spun through a protective nozzle with hole dimensions of 60 800 μ to form a multifilament thread with a single titer of 1.2 denier. The single threads are folded into a cable of around 89,000 den and stretched to 350%. This cable is then cut to a length of 6 mm. The staple fibers are stirred into a 0.5% solution of tannin in water, which has been adjusted to a pH of 3. The bath temperature is 35 ° C, the liquor ratio 1:50, the time of action of the tanning agent on the fiber material about 1 minute. The treated fibers are then centrifuged to a moisture content of about 30%. Subsequently, a 0.05% IG e prepared aqueous fiber dispersion, to which a copolyamide short fiber having a denier of 1.2 mm to, a cut length of 6 and a melting point of 170 ° C in an amount of 10%> based on the Total amount of fibers that is added. The fiber dispersion is, as described in Example 1, processed into a nonwoven web, the operating speed of the paper machine being adjusted so that a nonwoven web with a square meter weight of 40 g is obtained. The nonwoven web can be rolled up at the end of the drying device. For final consolidation, it is subjected to a calendar treatment at 170 ° C. A paper-like product of high tensile and tear strength is obtained.
