SeekabelSubmarine cables
The invention relates to a submarine cable used for power transmission with a sealing envelope, which is formed by layers of metal tape wound onto the cable insulation, which in turn is covered by a cover made of plastic material 5. With such sealing envelopes the disadvantage has proven to be quite harmful that moisture in the form of water vapor diffused through the plastic material shell. The invention makes use of the knowledge that the moisture contained in a polarized dielectric increases from points of positive potential Places in relation to this negative potential is conducted. Accordingly, according to the invention Metal tape layers with the help of an additional energy source, e.g. B. a battery, to a positive Potential brought in relation to the sea that is sufficient to prevent any diffusion of moisture into the interior to prevent the sealing envelope.
In the drawing, a submarine cable manufactured according to the invention is shown in section, for example.
In this drawing, the reference numeral 1 designates the conductor which is surrounded by insulation 2 is on which overlapping metal strips 3 are wound. The whole is of a shell 4 covered in plastic material. For the sake of simplicity, the schematic drawing shows the usual ones Cable layers, such as tapeworm protection tape, protective sheathing and armouring, not shown.
Bei Verwendung des in der Zeichnung veranschaulichten Kabels zur Energieübertragung unter Gleichspannung, bei der der zentrale Leiter positives Potential gegenüber dem Meer aufweist, ist es nicht notwendig, die Metallbandschichten 3 mit Hilfe einer zusätzlichen Energiequelle auf erhöhtes Potential anzuheben, da die Hülle auf Anmelder:Experience has shown that moisture in the form of water vapor through the plastic cover diffuses through, is practically held up by such a metallic shield, when it is brought to a positive potential in relation to the sea. When using the in the drawing illustrated cable for power transmission under DC voltage, in which the central If the conductor has positive potential with respect to the sea, it is not necessary to use the metal tape layers 3 with the help of an additional energy source to raise the potential to a higher level, since the shell is on Applicant:
