Description
Use of ascorbic acid to stabilize carbonamide groups containing polycondensation products Shaped structures. z. B. foils or coatings, from polycondensation products with carbonamide groups in the chain, such as mixed polyamides from adipic acid, hexamethylenediamine, p, p '- diaminodicyclohexylmethane and s-caprolactem, become brittle when heated in the presence of oxygen or irradiated with UV light will. Depending on the severity of the damage, the foils or coatings turn yellow, brown or black.
It has been found that ascorbic acid is present in amounts from 0.01 to 5 percent by weight as a stabilizer against the effects of heat, oxygen and Can use light for polycondensation products containing carbonamide groups. The ascorbic acid is expediently solutions or swellings of the polycondensation products added. It is also possible to add the ascorbic acid to the polycondensation products add before dissolving or swelling.
If the ascorbic acid z. B. in a screw machine of the melt the polycondensation products z. B. to be processed into foils, added, so the stabilizing effect is less.
Suitable polycondensation products containing carbonamide groups are in addition to the above-mentioned z. B. the following: polycaprolactam, polylaurolactam or sebacic acid and a polycondensate of 4,4'-diaminodicyclohexylmethane.
Geeignete Lösungsmittel bzw. Quellungsmittel sind z. B. die folgenden: Wäßrige Alkohole, Benzol, Chlorkohlenwasserstoffe, Metakresol, Glykole oder Gemische dieser Stoffe. Suitable solvents or swelling agents are, for. B. the following: Aqueous alcohols, benzene, chlorinated hydrocarbons, metacresol, glycols or mixtures these substances.
Films, coatings, Manufacture coatings, jackets, etc. A particular benefit of using ascorbic acid stabilized molding compounds and molded articles consists in the fact that the ascorbic acid is physiologically harmless. The molding compounds and the structures made from them remain colorless and even after prolonged exposure to heat, oxygen or light do not become brittle.
You can also use other substances, such as fillers, dyes, plasticizers, z. B. p-Hydroxybenzoic acid-2-ethylhexanol ester contain. The effectiveness of ascorbic acid can be increased by adding small amounts of copper salts or phosphorus salts.
The stability of polycondensation products containing carbonamide groups, whose amino end groups z. B. are closed by acetyl groups, can also can be improved by adding ascorbic acid.
From US Pat. No. 2,894,979 it was known to use polyalkyl esters of polycarboxylic acids with To stabilize ascorbic acid. Have these connections however, have a relatively low molecular weight and are recommended as plasticizers. They have no resemblance to the molding compositions and stabilized according to the invention Shaped structures from high molecular weight polycondensation products containing carbonamide groups.
The parts mentioned in the examples are parts by weight.
