Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The z. Visible signals currently used on the railways, which pass through during the day their shape or position, at night by differently colored or shaped lights transmit messages to the train crew, as is well known, have the great disadvantage, that their visibility is limited in cloudy or rainy weather, in heavy fog is even completely canceled. At least about the engine driver under such circumstances To be able to communicate in cases of danger, one generally has audible emergency signals Signs introduced by bells, signal horns, popping caps, etc. Not to mention of the fact that cloudy or rainy weather conditions the acoustic effect of some If such signals are greatly impaired, it is also clear that the locomotive crew is involved such signs are easily overheard by the noise of the rolling train. Experience teaches that, in spite of all such measures, accidents often occur in poorly transparent air.
In the following a device is now described which makes it possible, also with to give visible signs to the thickest fog with complete certainty and thereby the use Eliminate the need for unreliable audible signals. The essence of the facility consists in the fact that the light signal on the main mast is drawn from one another into a series of individual lights, which is close to the track to which the signal applies and at the same height as the Eye of the engine driver should be set up in such a way that they are visible to the incoming train send full light.
With a normal entrance signal, the lantern is at a height of about 7 m above the eye of the engine driver and is at least 2.5 m to the side of the track center, usually even further away. Experience has shown that the light of such a lantern is medium Fog only at about 20 m, in the case of very dense fog only at 4 to 5 m and even less to recognize. In the latter case, the reliable differentiation of the color of the light is often very difficult. But always a recognition of the signal will only be possible much too late than a possibly necessary recognition Holding the train before the final mast could be done.
Sind nun gar noch, wie dies an besonders gefährlichen Punkten empfehlenswert!! sein dürfte, die Laternen soIf, however, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 5, the light signal is repeated by setting up lanterns at suitable intervals, approximately level with the driver's eye, and as close as possible to the profile, which will be specified later Always corresponding colors as the main signal show, so the driver is able to recognize the position of the main signal even in the thick of fog. He must - as indicated in Fig. 1, where the line from the path of the locomotive driver's eye represents - after passing the distant signal, drive through the light cones of the repeat lanterns along their entire length before he comes to the main signal. Are now even recommended at particularly dangerous points! The lanterns should be like that
