Abstract
The present invention relates to a PM sensor, a PM amount detecting device for exhaust gas and an abnormality detecting device for an internal combustion engine.
HintergrundtechnikBackground Art
The conventional internal combustion engine described above is equipped with a pressure sensor for detecting a differential pressure of a filter. Accordingly, when exhaust gas containing a large amount of particulates flows into the filter, the amount of particulates in the filter increases. As a result, the differential pressure of the filter also increases as well. Therefore, by detecting the differential pressure of the filter, it is possible to detect the amount of particulates in the exhaust gas.

Kurzfassung der ErfindungSummary of the invention
Technisches ProblemTechnical problem
As exhaust emission regulations have been tightened in recent years, there is a growing demand for sensors for detecting the amount of particulates. However, at the current state of the art, there is no introduction of a PM sensor or a PM amount detection device on-board or on-vehicle execution that can withstand the practical use environments. Therefore, there are urgent requirements for developing PM sensors and PM amount detecting devices for detecting the amount of particulates. In addition, when an abnormality or irregularity occurs in a particulate filter of an internal combustion engine, immediate countermeasures must be taken. Vorteilhafte Wirkungen der ErfindungAdvantageous Effects of the Invention
According to a first aspect of the present invention, an oxygen concentration sensing element produces an output having a lower oxygen concentration as the amount of particulates in a filter increases. Based on the output of the oxygen concentration sensor element, it is possible to detect the amount of particles in the gas flowing into the filter. Further, it is possible to repeatedly carry out the detection of the amount of particulates since the particulates in the filter can be eliminated by heating with a heater.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, an oxygen concentration Sensor element provided on both the upstream side of the filter and on the downstream side of the filter. The difference between the outputs of these oxygen concentration sensor elements corresponds with high accuracy to the amount of particles in the filter. Thus, based on the difference between the outputs of these oxygen concentration sensor elements, it is possible to detect with high accuracy the amount of particles in the gas flowing into the filter.
According to a third aspect of the present invention, an air-fuel ratio sensor element is used as the oxygen concentration sensor element in the first and second aspects of the present invention. The air-fuel ratio sensor has a history of goodness as the sensor for detecting the oxygen concentration of exhaust gas. By using an air-fuel ratio sensor element, it is possible to detect the amount of particulates in the exhaust gas with high reliability.
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, the following effects can be obtained. The air-fuel ratio sensor basically operates while being heated to a predetermined activation temperature. On the other hand, particles will burn off without being accumulated in the filter when the temperature of the filter rises to not less than a specific temperature. According to the fourth aspect of the present invention, it is ensured that the filter can also hold particles while the temperature of the air-fuel ratio sensor is at the activation temperature. As a result, it is possible to detect the amount of particulates in the exhaust gas while the air-fuel ratio sensor is at the activation temperature.
According to a fifth aspect of the present invention, after the filter is heated to a sufficiently high temperature, a heater is controlled so that the temperature of the filter is lowered to a level at which particles can be trapped. After the heater control, particles in the filter are still trapped and the output of the oxygen concentration sensor element is acquired. The larger the amount of particles in the filter, the lower the oxygen concentration in the gas downstream of the filter, and the output of the oxygen concentration sensor element brings about a lower oxygen concentration value. Therefore, based on the output of the oxygen concentration sensor element, it is possible to calculate the amount of particulates in the gas flowing into the filter. This makes it possible to detect the amount of particulates in the exhaust gas.
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, it is possible to calculate the amount of particulates in the exhaust gas per unit time and per unit volume.
According to a seventh aspect of the present invention, an oxygen concentration sensor element is provided on both the upstream side of the filter and the downstream side of the filter. The difference between the outputs of these oxygen concentration sensor elements corresponds with high accuracy to the amount of particles in the filter Filter. Thus, based on the difference between the outputs of these oxygen concentration sensor elements, it is possible to detect the amount of particles in the gas flowing into the filter with high accuracy.
According to an eighth aspect of the present invention, an air-fuel ratio sensor element is used as the oxygen concentration sensing element. The air-fuel ratio sensor has a history of goodness as the sensor for detecting the oxygen concentration of exhaust gas. Thus, by using an air-fuel ratio sensor element, it is possible to detect the amount of particulates in the exhaust gas with high reliability.
According to a ninth aspect of the present invention, the output discrepancy between a plurality of air-fuel ratio sensors can be calibrated. This makes it possible to perform the detection of the amount of particles with high accuracy.
According to a tenth aspect of the present invention, it is possible to detect the amount of particles. The larger the amount of particulate matter in the exhaust gas, the greater the amount of particulate trapped in the filter per unit time. The larger the amount of particles in the filter, the greater the consumption of electrical energy from a heater, which is necessary to remove the particles in the filter. Therefore, it is possible to calculate the amount of particulates in the gas flowing into the filter based on the consumption of electric energy of a heater.
According to an eleventh aspect of the present invention, it is possible to accurately calculate the consumption of electric power consumed on the heater until the particles in the filter have been removed.
According to a twelfth aspect of the present invention, it is possible to determine with high accuracy whether the particles in the filter are eliminated or not.
According to a thirteenth aspect of the present invention, there is provided an oxygen concentration sensor downstream of a particulate filter. If the particulate filter is in a state capable of trapping particles normally, the particles will continue to accumulate in the filter so that the effect of the accumulation of particulate matter should manifest itself in the output of the oxygen concentration sensor itself. Therefore, based on the output of the oxygen concentration sensor, it is possible to detect an abnormality of the particulate filter.
According to a fourteenth aspect of the present invention, an oxygen concentration sensing element is provided both upstream and downstream of a particulate filter. The difference between the outputs of these oxygen concentration sensor elements corresponds with high accuracy to the amount of particles in the particulate filter. Based on the difference between the outputs of these oxygen concentration sensor elements, it is possible to detect an abnormality of the particulate filter with high reliability.
According to a fifteenth aspect of the present invention, an air-fuel ratio sensor is used as the oxygen concentration sensor in the fourteenth aspect of the present invention. The air-fuel ratio sensor has a history of goodness as the sensor for detecting the oxygen concentration of exhaust gas. By using the air-fuel ratio sensor, it is possible to detect the abnormality of a particulate filter with high reliability.

(PM-Erfassungsprinzip mit Bezug auf Ausführungsbeispiel 1)(PM Detecting Principle With Reference to Embodiment 1)
The larger the amount of particles in the filter, the longer will be the diffusion distance of the gas passing through the compact filter. The amount of O 2 that can pass through the compact filter decreases as the amount of particles in the filter increases; and as a result, the oxygen concentration on the downstream side of the compact filter continues to decrease. Therefore, it is possible to detect the amount of particulates in the gas flowing into the compact filter based on the oxygen concentration on the downstream side of the compact filter.
In the series of phenomena described above, the compact filter plays the same role as a diffusion-controlled layer in a limit current type A / F sensor. When the limit current type A / F sensor is disposed on the downstream side of the compact filter, the diffusion distance of oxygen in a layer representing the entirety of the compact filter and the diffusion controlled layer of the limit current type A / F sensor increases of particles in the filter increases. As a result, as the amount of particulates within the filter increases, the threshold current value of the downstream-side A / F sensor on the downstream side will continuously decrease.
When a limit current type A / F sensor is disposed upstream and downstream of the compact filter respectively, the difference between the outputs of the limit current type A / F sensors on the upstream and downstream sides increases as the amount of particulates in the filter increases , Therefore, it is possible to detect the amount of particulates in the gas flowing into the compact filter, based on the difference between the outputs of the upstream / downstream side A / F sensors.
(Spezieller Betrieb von Ausführungsbeispiel 1)(Special Operation of Embodiment 1)

Next, the PM amount is calculated according to the exhaust gas amount (step S114). In this step, the amount of particulates per unit time and per gas amount unit is calculated based on the integrated exhaust gas amount Gexh_itg stored in step S108 and a predetermined time period T 0 . This makes it possible to carry out a quantitative judgment of particles in the exhaust gas.

[Varianten von Ausführungsbeispiel 1][Variants of Embodiment 1]
(Erste Variante)(First variant)
Bei Ausführungsbeispiel 1 verwenden die A/F-Sensoren
(Zweite Variante)(Second variant)
(Dritte Variante)(Third variant)
Specifically, in a case for the PM sensor, which includes an inlet port of / for exhaust gas and an exhaust port of / for exhaust gas, a filter for filtering PM is provided. Further, an air-fuel ratio sensor element part or an oxygen concentration sensor element part is provided upstream and downstream of the filter, respectively. There is also a heater integrated to heat the filter. As described so far, a PM sensor including an inlet port and an exhaust port of exhaust gas is provided and incorporating a filter, an oxygen concentration sensor element part, and a heater. When this PM sensor is disposed in the exhaust path, a part of the exhaust gas is drawn out via the inlet port to enter the interior of the exhaust gas Housing for the PM sensor to flow. The exhaust gas that has flowed through the intake port passes through the filter and then flows out of the exhaust port into the exhaust path again. With this configuration, it is possible to detect the amount of particulates in the exhaust gas by treating the difference in the outputs of the oxygen concentration sensors of the upstream and downstream sides of the filter in the same manner as ΔI L in
Since the effects of the flow rate of exhaust gas and the air-fuel ratio are reduced as compared with the configuration of

In

According to the above-described processing, it is possible to perform the detection of abnormality in a particulate filter.
It is noted that in Embodiment 3, after the PM amount is calculated from ΔI L , a determination is made based on the comparison between the PM amount and the predetermined value. However, the present invention is not limited to this embodiment.
The comparison determination can be made by comparing ΔI L with a predetermined value without performing the conversion into the PM amount.
