Die Gerbholzextrakte, besonders Quebrachoextrakt, sind niemals vollständig, sondern stets nur theilweise in Wasser löslich, denn das in kochendem Wasser aufgelöste Extrakt schlägt sich beim Erkalten des Wassers zum grofsen Theil nieder und bildet eine consistente harzige Ablagerung, die an den Fellen haften bleibt und sie beschmutzt, während der obere Theil der Gerbflüssigkeit seines Gerbstoffgehaltes fast gänzlich beraubt- wird. Zweck der Erfindung ist, diese Uebelstände zu beseitigen, also Gerbholzextrakte, besonders aber Quebrachoextrakte herzustellen, die sich in der industriellen Praxis mit gröfster Leichtigkeit im Wasser auflösen und reiner, klarer und intensiver gefärbt sind als gewöhnliche, nicht nach dem neuen Verfahren behandelte Extrakte. Das Verfahren besteht darin, dafs man beispielsweise gewöhnliches Quebrachoextrakt von 25⁰B. mit 5 pCt. Aceton in einem geschlossenen Kessel einige Stunden einer Temperatur von 100 bis 150⁰C. aussetzt und dann das Agens nach einer der üblichen Methoden wiedergewinnt.
