Description
Oxygenator Oxygenators are used for the artificial gas exchange of the blood, which are preferably used in connection with heart-lung machines. in the Oxygenator aims on the one hand to enrich the blood with oxygen and on the other hand Carbonic acid is excreted from the blood.
An oxygenator is already known, which consists of a vessel, this on its underside by a microscopic one made of porcelain Filter disk is complete. Below this, oxygen is carried while Above the filter disc venous blood enters a chamber on its top is covered by a body made of fibers. The oxygen flows in microscopic bubbles in the swirling blood within the chamber so that a very large number of tiny oxygen bubbles are formed in the blood. The oxygen bubbles are distributed in the blood like a mist. That with bubbles Saturated blood flows through the filled with fiber material or fiberglass Body, whereby the vesicles merge into larger bubbles and come out of the blood again retire. The gas phase is thus separated from the liquid phase. The blood flows out of the side of the vessel. This method has the disadvantage that the possibility is that the microscopic filter material settles in the course of time Places clogged so that a fine gas distribution in the blood is no longer achieved and thus only a small amount of blood can be fully oxidized in a unit of time.
It is also a hallmark of such oxygenators that they are in proportion their size can only oxygenate a relatively small amount of blood.
The invention seeks to overcome the disadvantages of the known oxygenators to avoid. The invention relates to an oxygenator, at one end of which a Supply for venous blood and oxygen and at the other end an outlet for arterial blood is connected. The invention consists in that the oxygenator is formed from a plastic sponge.
This avoids the disadvantages described. The blood is always enriched with oxygen in the same way, even after prolonged use.
In the plastic sponge of the oxygenator according to the invention the blood and oxygen introduced. Many form within the sponge small parallel blood and oxygen paths, so that similar to the Lungs there is a very intimate contact between the venous blood and the oxygen. This design has the surprising result that with very small oxygenators large amounts of blood can be fully oxygenated in a unit of time.
A preferred embodiment is that the plastic sponge is arranged in an open housing, with oxygen in the plastic sponge on the one hand and the venous blood on the other hand are introduced directly. Like that an intimate mixture between the venous blood and the supplied blood is guaranteed. The released carbon dioxide and excess oxygen can escape unhindered. In the interest of intimate mixing with venous blood, the device can also be designed so that the oxygen supply line in several nozzles in the Plastic sponge ends. A device in which the Oxygen supply ends under a sieve-like body, which the plastic sponge is immediately applied.
An embodiment of the invention is shown schematically in the drawing illustrated, with details of a further embodiment of the invention explained are.
The oxygenator contains a porous body 1 made of a plastic sponge consists. Polyurethane sponge can serve as the plastic. This is in a tube 2 housed, which is also made of plastic. Oxygen gets through the Line 3, which forks in nozzles 4, supplied from below. Simultaneously flows venous blood through line 5 to. This is when stepping through the sponge 1 enriched with oxygen while carbon dioxide is separated out. The carbonic acid as well as excess oxygen can escape at the upper opening 6 of the container 7, while the blood flows down in the container 7 and from there through the connecting piece 8th forwarded to the patient as arterial blood as needed will.
