Bei den bisher gebräuchlichen Apparaten zur Darstellung lebender Photographien ist das Bildband, wenn ein solches überhaupt verwendet wird, meistens um eine gröfsere und eine kleinere Walze herumgelegt, welche Walzen das Bildband durch Reibung mitnehmen. Da nun für die Fortbewegung des Bildbandes nur die Summe der halben Umfange beider Walzen als Reibungsfläche in Betracht kommt, so mufs, um ein sicheres und -gleichmäfsiges Mitnehmen des Bildbandes herbeizuführen, dieses eine gewisse Spannung erhalten, weswegen der Stoff, aus welchem es gefertigt ist, eine bestimmte, ziemlich grofse Festigkeit besitzen mufs. Man ist hierdurch also in der Wahl des Stoffes zur Verfertigung der Bildbänder sehr beschränkt, hauptsächlich bei Verwendung nicht straff, sondern locker oder nachgiebig gespannter Bildbänder. Aufserdem ist es bei der erwähnten Art des Bildbandantriebes nicht möglich, die eine der Walzen sehr klein zu wählen, da hierdurch die Gefahr eines Gleitens des Bandes auf den Walzen sehr erhöht werden würde. Für ein gutes Umlegen der Bilder ist es andererseits aber wieder von grofsem Vortheile, den Durchmesser der umlegenden Walze möglichst klein zu wählen.
