Description
The invention relates to electrical equipment suitable for operation at high altitudes or in other areas where the pressure and water vapor content are relatively low and it relates in particular to sliding contact devices for electric motors or power generators of those Design in which a current transfer between components rotating against each other is conveyed by a brush made of carbon or graphite, which is connected to a suitable contact part, ζ. B. a slip ring or commutator, is in sliding contact.
It is a known fact that at high altitudes due to the lower water vapor content the atmosphere results in excessive wear of the brushes. It is also known that besides Water vapor certain other vapors reduce the wear and tear of the brushes, and they have already been Tests carried out in which a suitable steam was directed near the brush, and either by the fact that the brush device and the contact part interacting with it placed in a tight enclosure and maintained a suitable vapor pressure therein, or that there is a stream of steam on the contact surface between the brush and the one interacting with it Component headed.
It is also known to draw a lubricious liquid through the brush body from a reservoir to be supplied to the contact surfaces, the liquid partially evaporating on the contact surface. It is in one case also already known, openings in the wall of the closest to the contact surfaces Provide container by means of which the amount of liquid flowing into the brush body is limited.
The object of the invention is to create a lubrication for sliding contact surfaces, which is not so complicated and much more economical in the consumption of the lubricant, so that only one relatively small reservoir for the liquid is required.
The electrical sliding contact device according to the invention is characterized in that for limitation a porous or diaphragm-like diffusion part is provided for lubricant consumption, which the storage container from a steam chamber that opens directly into the brush body separates and which is designed so that the lubricant diffuse through this part and only in the vapor state into the vapor chamber and from there to the contact surfaces.
While in the above-mentioned known device through the openings to the contact surfaces the amount of liquid that arrives is determined or

As a result, the amount consumed in a certain period of time will be the lubricant is limited to a value that is significantly smaller than with the known device, because - as can be seen without further ado - the actually required for adequate lubrication The amount of lubricant is much smaller than the amount required for constant saturation of the Brush body with the lubricant liquid is actually consumed.
The storage container, which only needs to be relatively small in the device according to the invention, can attached to the brush body or arranged in its interior. But it can also be used separately be provided. In this case, the steam chamber can either be directly on or in the brush body or also be arranged separately. In all of these possible arrangements is the diffusion part arranged in the line between the reservoir 'and the steam chamber in which the Steam is collected before it penetrates the brush body.

When the brush is made of charcoal or some other porous material, as is usually the case it can be provided that the steam passes through the pores of the brush to the contact surface. In In other cases the brush should be provided with suitable channels to allow the steam to pass through the brush direct to the contact area; such channels can also be provided if the brush is porous, to increase the flow of steam to the contact surface.
In practicing the invention, one can determine the vapor pressure of the vaporizable material which a liquid or solid with one desirable for the particular operating conditions Vapor pressure can be in the container so that the steam for the purpose of lubrication only above a predetermined amount becomes fully effective; alternatively, the vapor pressure can be chosen so that Continuous lubrication is guaranteed at all heights, the effect of which, however, increases with increasing Height increases.
. The invention is explained in more detail using schematic drawings of several exemplary embodiments.
Fig. 1 zeigt schematisch eine Bürstenkonstruktion zur Dampfschmierung, bei der der Vorratsbehälter, der Diffusionsteil und die Dampfkammer mit der Bürste eine konstruktive Einheit bilden;Fig. 1 shows schematically a brush construction for steam lubrication, in which the reservoir, the diffusion part and the steam chamber with the brush form a structural unit;
Fig. 2 shows a further embodiment in which a container separate from the brush is used will.
In the arrangement of FIG. 1 there is a brush 1 which, for. B. consists of graphite, during the Operates in a brush holder 1 'and is in sliding contact with a slip ring or commutator 2, which is made of copper, for example. At its end facing away from its sliding surface a container 3 is attached to the brush, the cross-sectional area of which is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing The plane preferably resembles that of the brush 1. In an opening in the one closest to the brush 1 Wall of the container 3 is attached to a tube 4 open on both sides, which is firmly seated in the body the brush fits and its outer surface opposite the brush preferably by a sealing ring 5 is sealed. The container 3 contains a liquid or solid material 6, which is below the expected Operating conditions can give off suitable vapors for lubrication, and this material is selected so that it acts as a lubricant in its vapor state when carbon and copper are in sliding contact stand with each other without the current transfer between the brush 1 and the Slip ring or commutator2 is impaired; the steam may z. B. do not affect normal commutation in a DC machine. A a suitable material is, for example, liquid trichlorethylene, which is used to lubricate sliding contact devices is already known per se. Tests have shown that even very small amounts of Trichlorethylene vapor is sufficient to reduce the wear and tear of the brushes at great heights to an almost negligible level to a small extent. In the tube 4 a porous barrier 7 is used as a plug unglazed porcelain or as a metal stopper with fine openings, e.g. made of porous bronze may be to allow the lubricant by diffusion from the container 3 as vapor with can get into the tube 4 at a speed which is noticeably determined by the porosity of the barrier 7 is. Alternatively, one could control the flow of steam to the tube 4 through a suitable diaphragm limit the z. B. consists of a thin metal layer through which the lubricant diffuses can. In both cases, the lock can be carried out in such a way that the influx of the Lubricant is limited to the minimum value required for the desired lubricating effect is.
In order to use a liquid material in the container 3 to ensure that the liquid regardless of the location of the brush 1 on the circumference of component 2, d. H. even when the brush 1 is on the underside of the component 2, so that the Container 3 is located below the brush, penetrates into the porous barrier 7, a wick or the like made of fiber material, as indicated at 9, embedded with one end in the porous barrier and the rest in the container 3 within the liquid material 6, so that the wick 9 the liquid in the porous barrier 7 is drawn in, from which it is drawn as steam into the steam chamber formed by the tube 4 occurs.
If the pressure outside the brush is lower than the vapor pressure of the material in the container 3, the lubricant passes through the barrier 7 as steam into the pipe 4. From here the steam arrives into the body of the brush 1 and migrates through the natural pores and / or specially provided channels 8 to the interface between the brush and the slip ring or commutator 2. This process is supported by the relatively high temperature at the contact surface. To ensure, that the steam only emerges at the contact surface of the brush, it can be useful to remove the rest Areas of the brush by applying a paint or other suitable treatment to make impermeable.
Fig. 2 shows a such an arrangement in which, in turn, a brush 10 in a holder 11 in sliding contact with a Slip ring or commutator 12 is. In this case, however, the liquid or solid material 14, the can give off suitable vapors for lubrication under the expected operating conditions, in a container 13 located outside the brush holder. A tube 15 that is in a Wall of the container 13 is screwed or otherwise attached to the wall and by a ring 16 is sealed from plastic, is in communication with the container 13 and forms between his closed outer end and a porous barrier 17 inserted into the tube near the inner end is, a steam chamber. As with the arrangement according to FIG. 1, the material is in the container 13 a liquid, and in the container there are one or more wicks or the like made of fiber material, as indicated at 9 ', each of which is embedded with one end in the porous barrier 17. Of the A pipeline 18 leads through a steam chamber inside the tube 15 into the brush housing 11 inserted termination and through a plug 19 sealingly inserted into the brush body 10 to the Brush; to allow the brush to move and allow for wear and tear is a part
Die Arbeitsweise der Anordnung nach Fig. 2 ist im Hinblick auf die an Hand von Fig. 1 gegebene Beschreibung ohne weiteres verständlich.of the tube 18 wound into a coil to make it flexible or compliant, and this coil is expediently arranged within the brush pressure spring 20. The implementation of the tube 18 through the end cover 21 of the brush holder 11 can be hardened by means of heat Resin sealed as indicated at 22. The mode of operation of the arrangement according to FIG. 2 is readily understandable in view of the description given with reference to FIG. 1.
It is envisaged that a single external container, e.g. B. through the container 13 in Fig. 2, several brushes can be supplied. Additional pipelines are available for this purpose are connected to the steam chamber within the tube 15, with further brushes (not shown) in connection in a manner similar to that of the tube 18 with the brush 10; such additional pipelines are indicated in Fig. 2 at 18 '.
