The invention relates to a means for preventing corrosion in heat exchangers, especially in coolers of internal combustion engines, the cooling liquids from water, glycols and / or polyglycols is added and contains sodium benzoate and sodium nitrite.

As is known, glycols and / or polyglycols lower the freezing point of water depending on the amount of glycols or polyglycols used. Sodium benzoate and sodium nitrite have been found to be excellent inhibitors, but these inhibitors have the disadvantage that they accelerate the destruction of the rubber parts of heat exchangers; in addition, 1 they are not stable in glycols. The invention is based on the object of overcoming these disadvantages.

It has been found that by adding arylamines, ketone amines or water-soluble salts of these amines to cooling liquids of the composition given above not only cause corrosion of iron, steel, aluminum, tin, solder, bronze, copper and all welded connections, but also the rubber parts of a heat exchanger are prevented. The specified Amines or the water-soluble salts of these amines also stabilize sodium benzoate and sodium nitrite. They also act as oxidants with regard to the glycols contained in cooling liquids, by preventing the formation of glycolic and oxalic acids, which are also addressed as corrosive agents Need to become. Another advantage of the additive according to the invention should be emphasized. That a detachment of old corrosion products in the heat exchangers and finally also a. Foam the coolant under usual. Working conditions is prevented.

in Wärmeaustauschern
As examples of arylamines or ketone amines suitable for the purposes of the invention, the following are given: N-methyl-p-phenylenediamine, 3,5-diaminophenol, 1,2-naphthylenediamine, m-aminophenol, ^ -phenylethylamine, 3-aminonaphthol, acetonylamine , p-aminoacetophenone and 4-aminobenzophenone. Phenyl-ci- and - / 5-naphthylamine are particularly suitable. With regard to the amounts of the arylamines, ketoneamines or the water-soluble salts of these amines to be used, it should be stated with regard to a 20% strength aqueous solution of glycol that an addition of 0.1% by weight of amine is sufficient for the purposes of the invention. If, however, an amine is added to undiluted glycol that is subsequently to be diluted so that there are 4 parts by weight of water for 1 part by weight of glycol, then 0.5 percent by weight of amine must be added to the glycol. The preferred amounts of amine to be used as an anti-corrosive agent
in heat exchangers

Phenyl-a-naphthylamin wird zweckmäßigerweise als Lösung in denaturiertem Alkohol angewendet, da auf diese Weise die Suspension des Phenyl-a-naphthylamins in der Kühlflüssigkeit gefördert wird.are based on sodium benzoate, in such a way that the amine concentration expediently is one twentieth of the molecular concentration of sodium benzoate, i.e. / the amine concentration is two thousandths of a mole per 100 ml of frost-proof liquid (after dilution). Phenyl-a-naphthylamine is conveniently used as Solution in denatured alcohol applied, as in this way the suspension of the phenyl-a-naphthylamine is promoted in the coolant.
