Grundidee bisher bekannter tragbarer Falzgeräte, etwa aus DE-GM 297 03 217, DE-OS 91 05 526, DE-OS 94 13 129 oder DE-GM 299 21 131 ist es, einen der Größe des zu faltenden Blattes entsprechenden Mechanismus zusammenzuklappen, woraufhin das eingeklappte Papier gefalzt wird. Aus der DE-OS 196 54 813 ist ein Falzgerät bekannt, bei dem mittels einer verschiebbaren Handhabe und aufwendigen Klappmechanismen das Falzen bewerkstelligt werden soll. All diesen Vorschlägen ist gemeinsam, dass damit recht kompliziert bauende Geräte verwirklicht sind, die für eine Zweihand-Bedienung ungeeignet sind. Es ist mit diesen Geräten nicht möglich, den oder die zu falzenden Bögen gegenüber dem Falzgerät einerseits exakt zu positionieren und andererseits dann ein präzises Falzen an den dafür vorgesehenen Drittelabschnitten zu erreichen, sodass sich keine bedienungsfreundliche, schnelle Handhabung einstellt. Ein weiterer Nachteil sämtlicher bekannter Vorrichtungen besteht darin, dass sie nur das Herstellen einer Zickzack-, nicht aber einer Wickelfalz ermöglichen.
