Abstract
An acceleration sensor is presented, in particular for impact detection in motor vehicles, which has a cavity with a fluid and a pressure sensor for detecting pressure changes in the cavity. At least one movable section is provided in or on the cavity, such that when the acceleration (G) acts on the section, a change in pressure in the cavity occurs due to the mass inertia of the section and the acceleration acting on the section can be derived from the signal of the pressure sensor. For this purpose, an inner tube (1) and spaced apart at least in the direction of the expected acceleration of an outer jacket (2) is provided and has the inner tube (1) made of an elastic material in a predetermined acceleration range predetermined elastic deformability. The pressure sensor detects the pressure change in the interior of the inner tube (1) and / or between outer jacket (2) and inner tube (1), preferably both.

The object of the invention is to present an improved concept for pressure-based acceleration measurement, which allows a simple structure and at the same time a reliable mode of action.
This object is solved by the features of the independent claims. Advantageous developments of the invention will become apparent from the dependent claims, and combinations and developments of individual features are conceivable with each other.
An essential idea of the invention is that an inner tube, that is to say a hollow, at least approximately elongated structure, is provided of an elastic material with an elastic deformability predetermined in a predetermined acceleration region. An application-specific optimization of the hardness and sensitivity of the pressure sensing is possible. However, such a tube is certainly more sensitive than the silicone hoses previously used for direct impact detection.
Therefore, it is provided that at least in the direction of the expected acceleration spaced therefrom an outer jacket is provided, which on the one hand protects the inner tube, but on the other hand just creates a second cavity.
The pressure sensor now detects either the pressure change in the interior of the inner tube or between the outer jacket and the inner tube or at least two pressure sensors are preferably provided and detects the pressure change in the interior of the inner tube and additionally the other pressure sensor detects the pressure change in the cavity between the outer jacket and the inner tube.
The outer jacket as well as the inner tube have a longitudinal orientation transverse to the direction of the expected acceleration, wherein the length in the longitudinal direction is at least twice the width of the outer jacket in the direction of the expected acceleration. As with direct impact detection, the size to be measured is detected with only one sensor over a correspondingly long length. While so far, however, for the acceleration measurement in the vehicle front, for example, usually at least two, more spatially distributed sensors were required and even then in a crash precisely between these sensors, the sensitivity significantly decreased, the hose assembly, as in the impact detection on the be drawn complete vehicle front and thus the cost of only one such pressure-based acceleration sensor can be reduced, which also allows a full-coverage coverage. Therefore, such a tubular acceleration sensor is arranged in a vehicle at least approximately parallel in a plane to the roadway, with smaller deviations without consequences for the sensitivity, since such a sensor is usually unidirectionally sensitive and it is therefore possible, possibly bearing structural parts of the vehicle to circumvent, ie here extensive freedom of design exists. In addition, the sensor is in such a plane parallel to the roadway preferably transverse to the expected direction of an acceleration to be sensed in this vehicle area, in particular in the vehicle front so on a frontal impact and thus transverse to the direction of travel, with an arrangement in the side door according to a side impact and thus arranged along the direction of travel axis.
Preferably, the outer jacket is arranged concentrically around the inner tube. The inner tube can be held locally in position, for example, via a spirally wound around the inner tube spacer, without the acceleration measurement would be significantly affected.
Es zeigen:The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to embodiments and figures. Show it:

So zeigten 1. Als obere Grenze wird bisher von einer maximalen Härte von 50 Shore A ausgegangen, der bevorzugte Bereich aber darunter gesehen, also zumindest kleiner gleich 50.For example, experiments with a commercially available silicone hose of about 30 Shore A hardness showed good sensitivity in an acceleration range of 5 g to 480 g. Up to now, the upper limit is assumed to be a maximum hardness of 50 Shore A, but the preferred range is seen below, ie at least equal to 50.

If pressure sensors are provided at both ends, the approximate position of the impact can also be recognized from the transit time differences. In this case, a pressure sensor does not necessarily have to be provided on both sides of the same cavity, but in addition the interaction between the two cavities can be utilized.
In addition, it is conceivable that one of the two cavities V1 and V2, a pressure-changing element, such as a small pump may be provided by means of which specifically brought about a pressure change and so the arrangement can be checked for leaks and operability of the sensors.

However, not shown are the respective pressure sensor (s) for detecting pressure changes in the cavity, since their design substantially corresponds to the already known from the pedestrian impact detection systems, but in the sensitivity and the evaluated frequency ranges and therefore possible filter characteristics may well vary, but what for the sketchy representation here is not significant.
