Description
The invention relates to a method for providing one or more air products and an air separation plant according to the preambles of the independent claims.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
Häring (Hrsg.), Industrial Gases Processing, Wiley-VCH, 2006, insbesondere Abschnitt 2.2.5, „Cryogenic Rectification“, beschrieben. The production of air products in the liquid or gaseous state by cryogenic separation of air in air separation plants is known and, for example, H.-W. Häring (ed.), Industrial Gas Processing, Wiley-VCH, 2006, especially Section 2.2.5, "Cryogenic Rectification".
Air separation plants have distillation column systems which can be designed, for example, as two-column systems, in particular as classic Linde double-column systems, but also as three-column or multi-column systems. Air separation plants may, as is well known, also include heat-integrated rectification systems. In addition to the distillation columns for the production of nitrogen and / or oxygen in the liquid and / or gaseous state, ie the distillation columns for nitrogen-oxygen separation, distillation columns can be provided for obtaining further air components, in particular the noble gases krypton, xenon and / or argon.
The distillation columns of said distillation column systems are operated at different pressure levels. Known double column systems have a so-called high-pressure column (also referred to as a pressure column, medium-pressure column or lower column) and a so-called low-pressure column (also referred to as the upper column). The pressure level of the high-pressure column is for example 4 to 6 bar, preferably about 5 bar. The low-pressure column is operated at a pressure level of, for example, 1.3 to 1.7 bar, preferably about 1.5 bar. The pressures given here and below are absolute pressures at the top of the respective columns.
In excess or low power periods of high power demand (hereinafter also referred to as "low power price periods"), air is liquefied in an air separation plant with an integrated condenser or in a dedicated liquefaction plant, in whole or in part, into an air liquefaction product. The air liquefaction product is stored in a tank system with cryogenic tanks.
On the other hand, during periods of low electricity consumption or high load periods in which there is a low supply of electricity (hereinafter also referred to as "high-current price periods"), the air liquefaction product is taken from the tank system, pressure-increased by means of a pump and warmed up to about ambient temperature or higher and thus into a gaseous or supercritical state transferred. A thereby obtained high-pressure stream is expanded in a power plant unit in one or more expansion turbines, possibly with intermediate heating and / or with additional use of fuel gas to ambient pressure. The thereby released mechanical power is converted into electrical energy in one or more generators and fed into a power grid.
The released during the transfer of the air liquefaction product in the gaseous or supercritical state cold can also be stored and used during the liquefaction operation to provide cold for obtaining the air liquefaction product. For this purpose, thermal storage systems in the form of fixed bed and liquid storage can be used.
Finally, compressed air storage power plants are known in which air is not liquefied, but compressed in a compressor and stored in an underground cavern. In times of high electricity demand, the compressed air from the cavern is directed into the combustion chamber of a gas turbine. At the same time, the gas turbine is supplied via a gas line fuel, such as natural gas, and burned in the atmosphere formed by the compressed air. The formed exhaust gas is expanded in the gas turbine, thereby generating energy.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
This object is achieved by a method for providing one or more air products and an air separation plant having the features of the independent patent claims. Embodiments are each the subject of the dependent claims and the following description.
The method according to the invention serves to provide one or more air products using an air separation plant, the air separation plant having a main air compressor, a secondary compressor, a main heat exchanger, a distillation column system and a thermal storage system with a first thermal storage unit and a second thermal storage unit. For the function of the components mentioned, reference is mainly made to the cited technical literature.
Kerry, Industrial Gas Handbook, CRC Press, 2006, insbesondere Abschnitte 2.7, „Kapitza Cycle“, und 4.4.3, „Recovery of Krypton and Xenon“, erläutert.A fixed-bed cold storage, which in the context of the present invention may in particular also consist of several storage blocks and thus structurally separate, identically or differently formed units, may in particular be constructively similar to the regenerators, as they are generally known from the field of air separation plants. Regenerators are for example available from F.G. Kerry, Industrial Gas Handbook, CRC Press, 2006, especially sections 2.7, "Kapitza Cycle", and 4.4.3, "Recovery of Krypton and Xenon".
Rosen, „Thermal Energy Storage - Systems and Applications“, Chichester, John Wiley & Sons 2002). Fixed bed cold stores are also extensively described in the literature (see, for example, I. Dinger and M. A. Rosen, "Thermal Energy Storage Systems and Applications", Chichester, John Wiley & Sons 2002). Suitable storage media are, for example, rock, concrete, bricks, man-made ceramics or cast iron. For lower storage temperatures are also suitable earth, gravel, sand or gravel. Fixed bed cold storage may also include, for example, corrugated aluminum sheets or channeled concrete blocks (uncommon but possible in air separation plants).
The method according to the invention comprises compressing an amount of feed air, at least using the main air compressor, cooling it, at least using the main heat exchanger, and feeding it into the distillation column system. It is further provided to remove at least one cryogenic liquid from the distillation column system, to heat it, and to provide it as or one of the air products.
According to the invention, a first and a second method mode are provided. In the first method mode, a portion of the amount of feed air in the first thermal storage unit is cooled and a Part of the cryogenic liquid in the second thermal storage unit heated. In the second mode of operation, a portion of the feed air amount in the first thermal storage unit is heated and a portion of the cryogenic liquid in the second thermal storage unit is cooled.
According to one embodiment of the invention, which is also explained with reference to the accompanying drawings, the amount of feed air in the main air compressor is compressed to a first pressure level. A first subset of the feed air quantity compressed to the first pressure level is recompressed in the recompressor to a second pressure level above the first pressure level, a second subset of the feed air amount compressed to the first pressure level is not recompressed in the recompressor. The first and second subset are cooled. The fact that the second subset is not recompressed in the secondary compressor does not rule out that it may be subjected to further pressure-increasing measures, for example in turbine boosters.
The present invention can thus be used in particular in connection with so-called MAC-BAC (Main Air Compressor / Booster Air Compressor) methods. A MAC-BAC process is characterized in that only a portion of the total amount of feed air supplied to the distillation column system (the first subset mentioned) is compressed to a pressure level which is substantially, i. is at least 3, 4 or 5 bar above the pressure level of the high pressure column. Another part of the distillation column system total supplied amount of feed air (the second subset) is compressed only to the pressure level of the high pressure column or a typically not more than 1 to 2 bar deviating from this pressure level and fed to this in the high pressure column. The compressed to the higher pressure level of the distillation column system total supplied compressed air can be relaxed in a MAC-BAC process after cooling partly in a Claude turbine, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the context of the presently explained embodiment of the present invention, it is further provided that the at least one cryogenic liquid taken from the distillation column system and used as the or one of the air products is subjected to a pressure increase and converted into the gaseous or supercritical state by the heating. In other words, in the context of the present invention, so-called internal compression, as explained, for example, in Häring, Section 2.2.5.2, "Internal Compression", is carried out.
By a "cryogenic" fluid is meant here a liquid medium whose boiling point is well below the ambient temperature, e.g. at -50 ° C or less, especially at -100 ° C or less. Examples of cryogenic media are liquid air, liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid propane or liquids rich in the compounds mentioned.
Liquid and gaseous fluids may be rich or poor in one or more components as used herein, with "rich" for a content of at least 75%, 90%, 95%, 99%, 99.5%, 99.9% or 99.99% and "poor" for a content of at most 25%, 10%, 5%, 1%, 0.1% or 0.01% may be on a molar, weight or volume basis. The term "predominantly" may correspond to the definition of "rich" just mentioned, but in particular denotes a content of more than 90%. If, for example, "nitrogen" is mentioned here, it can be a pure gas or a nitrogen-rich gas.
The method according to the currently explained embodiment is further characterized in that the amount of feed air in the first method mode corresponds to the amount of feed air in the second method mode. This is understood here in particular to mean that the amount of feed air in the first method mode differs by not more than 20%, in particular by not more than 10%, 5% or 1%, from the amount of feed air in the second method mode. The (post-compressed) first subset of the feed air quantity is smaller in the first method mode than in the second method mode, and the second (not recompressed) subset of the feed air quantity is larger in the first method mode as in the second method mode. However, the sum of the first and the second subset in the first method mode corresponds in particular to that in the second method mode in the sense explained.
Therefore, in the presently explained embodiment of the present invention, the air separation plant can always be supplied with the same amount of air regardless of the process mode, which makes it possible to provide the same amount of air product (s). Nevertheless, in the context of the present invention, the energy requirement can be adapted to the respective electricity supply, as already explained.
For this purpose, in the first method mode according to the currently explained embodiment, a first portion of the second subset in the first thermal storage unit and a second portion of the second subset in the main heat exchanger are cooled. The cooling in the first thermal storage unit takes place in the first thermal storage unit "stored cold". In the first method mode, the secondary compressor is operated with a lower electrical power compared to a basic mode and compared to the second method mode explained below, so that a corresponding proportion of energy can be saved.
Because, compared to the basic mode and the second method mode in the presently explained embodiment, without a corresponding power reduction, the amount of feed air is kept substantially the same and a portion of the amount of feed air, i. the first portion of the second subset, is cooled in the first thermal storage unit, the main heat exchanger but flows through a smaller amount of compressed air of the secondary compressor. In the main heat exchanger therefore a smaller amount of heat is introduced by warm process streams. This is compensated in the first mode of operation by heating a first portion of the cryogenic liquid in the second thermal storage unit and heating a reduced second portion of the cryogenic liquid in the main heat exchanger.
By contrast, in the second method mode according to the currently explained embodiment, the second subset is completely cooled in the main heat exchanger and, prior to its cooling, combined with a part of the cooled first and / or second subset, which is previously heated in the first thermal storage unit. In the second process mode, the booster is operated at higher power than the basic operation and the first process mode. The second subset before unification decreases.
The amount of feed air, as mentioned, in the currently explained embodiment is kept the same compared to the basic operation or the first process mode. In the first thermal storage unit, there is a flow reversal in relation to the first method mode. As a result, the first thermal storage unit is cooled to be available for the first operating mode in the cooled state. The energy requirement is increased by the operation of the booster with higher performance.
Due to the increased throughput in the secondary compressor, the main heat exchanger also flows through an increased amount of compressed air in the embodiment currently explained.
For balancing the heat exchanger, more than the product quantity of the cryogenic liquid is completely heated in the main heat exchanger. This additional liquid is generated by condensation in the second thermal storage unit, the storage unit is heated therethrough. This cryogenic liquid is fed to the product stream and cooled after heating in the main heat exchanger in a circle in the second thermal storage unit, liquefied and then combined again with the cryogenic liquid before heating in the main heat exchanger.
Overall, the energy requirement by the method according to the invention thus partially shifts in the direction of the second operating mode. The first operating mode is therefore carried out, in particular in a high-current price period, the second operating mode in a low-current price period.
The integration of two thermal storage units in the context of the present invention, the dynamics can be improved in flexible operation. The integration of an air separation plant enables the decoupling of the dynamics of the rectification system from the rest of the process. By using thermal storage units both on the educt side (air flow) and on the product side (nitrogen, oxygen, argon, etc.), in particular a blower or a pump can be used to overcome pressure losses in backflow, is an additional Degree of freedom created. This allows a variation of the connected load of the machines (in the example of the Booster) without affecting the rectification. As a result, faster load change speeds can be realized, which are only coupled to the dynamics of the machines.
As mentioned, in particular the sum of the first and the second subset in the first and in the second method mode corresponds in each case to the amount of feed air and in the first method mode, a smaller amount of fluid is passed through the main heat exchanger than in the second method mode. In this case, the amount of air cooled in the main heat exchanger in the first method mode corresponds to the sum of the first subset and the second subset of the second subset. Details have already been explained.
In the method according to the invention, the amount of air cooled in the main heat exchanger in the second method mode advantageously corresponds to the sum of the first subset, the second subset and the part of the cooled first and / or second subset, with which the second subset unifies before being cooled in the main heat exchanger becomes. The amount of fluids heated in the main heat exchanger is advantageously reduced by the first portion of the cryogenic liquid in the first mode of operation and in the second mode of operation by the portion of the cryogenic liquid cooled after being heated in the main heat exchanger in the second thermal storage unit is combined with the cryogenic liquid before heating in the main heat exchanger, increases.
Advantageously, in the first method of operation, the first thermal storage unit is combined from the first portion of the second subset in a first direction and in the second method mode from the portion of the cooled first and / or second subset with which the second subset prior to its cooling in the main heat exchanger is flowed through in a second, opposite direction. Accordingly, in the first method of operation, the second thermal storage unit is liquefied and cooled by the first portion of the cryogenic liquid in a first direction and in the second method mode by the portion of the cryogenic liquid which has cooled in the second heat storage unit after being heated in the main heat exchanger the cryogenic liquid is combined prior to heating in the main heat exchanger, flows through in a second, opposite direction.
Parallel to the variation of the connected load of the post-compressor, the variation of the connected load on the main air compressor can take place. For this purpose, in addition to the above possibility still a classic liquid air storage as known from the prior art can be integrated. This method can also be used to vary product quantities.
The present invention also extends to an air separation plant having a main air compressor, a reboiler, a main heat exchanger, a distillation column system, and a thermal storage system having a first thermal storage unit and a second thermal storage unit. Further details are given in claim 10. The air separation plant is set up in particular for carrying out a method, as has been explained above. Reference is therefore made to the corresponding statements.
The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the attached drawings, which illustrate further details of the invention. The illustrated process variant represents only exemplary integration of both thermal energy storage in a classic air separation process. Depending on the type of plant and product quantities, the thermal energy storage can be integrated into any process streams on the product and Eduktseite. Depending on the material flows, different quantities of product result and thus interpretations for the thermal energy storage. Likewise, a different use of material flows for the loading and unloading cycle is conceivable, e.g. a load of high pressure air, a discharge of low pressure air. The flowing quantities of the fluids or the cycle times of the processes must in this case be adapted to the capacity flows of the different material flows. By capacitive currents is meant at this point the product of mass flow and heat capacity of a fluid flow.
