Gebiet der ErfindungField of the invention
The invention relates to the field of printing technology, in particular the printing of security elements. More particularly, the invention relates to a device for orienting magnetically orientable particles in a paint, a printing machine equipped with this device, and an associated printing method.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
Data carriers such as banknotes and other documents of value, which are used as a ticket, ticket or for the identification and authorization of persons and are used as a cash card or as a security and brand label, to protect against counterfeiting and piracy to achieve sufficient security against counterfeiting in the Usually equipped with different security elements. These security elements can, for example, be elements permanently integrated into the substrate of the data carrier to be secured, such as watermarks or security threads or laminated layers, but also securing elements which have been applied to the surface of the data carrier by means of pressure and / or as a transfer element.
Safety elements on the surface of a data medium to be backed up are usually visually recognizable and thus directly checked. In this connection, the use of magnetically orientable pigments in one color is already known. As a rule, these magnetizable pigments or particles are not spherical as a result of their production. Many of the magnetically orientable particles used also have further special properties and features. When these particles are introduced into a magnetic field, they align along the magnetic field lines. The necessary mobility is given in a still liquid color sufficiently. After alignment, a drying process takes place in order to obtain the set by means of the magnetic field orientation of the particles permanently.
The known devices for the orientation of magnetically orientable particles in one color still have various disadvantages that must be overcome. In general, the alignment of the pigments is difficult to adjust or complex, the devices are expensive, and the orientations created are inflexible or hardly allow for customization. In addition, the overall printing speed of the printing processes is often slow due to the operation of the magnetically orientable particle alignment devices. Often, it appears that the visual effect of orientation desired by the orientation is not achieved, and therefore additional static elements are needed standing on the edge or in direct contact with the magnetically oriented ink to serve as a reference edge and sufficiently detect the effect of alignment do. Such additional elements add to the expense of production and reduce the flexibility in designing security features that work with such colors.

It is the object of the present invention to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art and to provide an improved device for orienting magnetically orientable particles in a paint. The invention is intended to enable a variety of embodiments and thus make media with a high security against counterfeiting individually and reproducibly equipable. The aim is also to create a form of magnetic orientation or orientation that can be clearly recognized without special aids with the eye, shows a good optical depth effect and works with such a high resolution, so that the alignment also applicable to small-area designs is. The alignment by means of the device according to the invention should be usable in a continuous process at high production speeds.
This object is solved by the subject matters of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments of the invention will become apparent from the dependent claims.
According to a first aspect, the invention relates to a device for orientation of magnetically orientable particles in one color. The device comprises a first magnetic plate body having planar surfaces and having a first magnetic field pattern and at least one second magnetic plate body having planar surfaces and having a second magnetic field pattern extending from the first magnetic field pattern differs, so that in the orientation of the magnetically orientable particles in the color these particles are aligned according to the field lines of the superposition of the magnetic field pattern.
The device itself can be formed in one or more parts. Various components of the device may be provided adjacent to each other, or in principle, at the same location or away from each other. The device itself may be provided separately or in combination with other devices such as a printing press.
For the purposes of the invention, the term color is to be interpreted as far as possible. Essentially, this is a sufficiently liquid coating material that can be used in the context of printing processes. The paint comprises a binder system which may be colorless or color-providing in the visible spectrum. In this binder system at least one type of magnetically orientable particles or pigments is incorporated, which are usually glossy gray, but can also be equipped with a coloring surface coating itself. In addition to the magnetizable pigments, coloring pigments may be contained in the paint, preferably pigments which themselves are translucent and appear colored by a specific external excitation, such as UV radiation, or colored by light interference in front of the gray-gloss background of the magnetizable pigments , By means of this structure of the color, the magnetically orientable or then oriented particles contained therein can show an optical effect when viewed.
There are no special requirements for the magnetically orientable particles. Magnetizable particles are not perfectly spherical due to their production. However, a plurality of non-spherical magnetizable particles is sufficient for the practice of the present invention in color. A special coating of the magnetic particles is not necessary for alignment with the device of the present invention. But of course, specially coated particles or pigments known in the art may also be used. The magnetically orientable particles preferably belong to the substance class ferromagnetic pigments such as cobalt, nickel, samarium, iron, the oxides of the substances mentioned and other representatives of this class. But the use of ferrimagnetic particles is basically possible.
The device according to the invention has at least two of the above-described plate body, but it may also have three, four, five or more plate body. The following is true in principle for each of these plate body. A plate body has a substantially flat extension and is preferably formed in one piece, which guarantees a simple manufacturing process. A plate body is magnetic, that is, it is either permanently magnetic or can be temporarily magnetized for the application of the device according to the invention temporarily. It has been found that the use of permanently magnetic plate bodies is technically easier to implement and can be dispensed with, for example, a complex control of magnetic write heads for generating temporary magnetic fields or patterns. The surfaces of the plate body are flat. This means that the plate bodies have virtually no indentations or structuring on their surface, definitely not for the purpose of producing a particular magnetic field pattern. This applies to both the top and the bottom of the respective plate body.
The magnetic plate body generates a magnetic field pattern according to the invention. The use of the term pattern implies a certain basic complexity of the generated magnetic field. As a magnetic field pattern in particular is not a simple magnetization of a plate body such that the entire top of the plate body is a north pole and the bottom is a south pole or vice versa. Thus, in each case, at least two north or south poles are realized within a plate body. The arrangement of the north or south poles is chosen so that each opposite pole pieces adjoin one another.
According to the invention, the magnetic field patterns of at least two magnetic plate bodies differ from each other. This is a difference that can actually be seen in the pattern itself and not just in the polarity or strength of the magnetic fields. Considered in this comparison rather belonging to the respective plate body magnetic field lines. At this viewing angle, it becomes immediately clear why only a different polarity does not produce a different magnetic field pattern, since the direction of the magnetic field lines is disregarded when viewing the patterns. The situation is similar with a variation of the strength of the magnetic field. This alone does not create another pattern. However, a rotation of plate bodies of the same design, ie plate bodies with actually identical magnetization, again produces a different magnetic field pattern compared to the starting position. The plate bodies are thus considered spatially fixed to one another, as they are oriented relative to each other in the device according to the invention. Only then are the magnetic field patterns regarding their Diversity judged. The plate bodies are thus arranged and / or oriented relative to one another such that the magnetic field patterns of at least two plate bodies differ from one another.
According to the invention, the at least two plate bodies are now arranged such that, when the magnetically orientable particles are oriented in color, these particles are aligned in accordance with both magnetic field patterns. Preferably, a resultant magnetic field is generated by the arrangement of at least two magnetic plate body, and according to this superposition, the magnetically orientable particles are aligned in the color when using the device according to the invention. In this case, it is preferable that the magnetic fields of the magnetic plate bodies simultaneously act on the magnetically orientable particles to be aligned in color. It is almost obvious that the superposition of relatively simple magnetic fields results in a relatively complex total magnetic field. Since magnetic field lines are always closed, it is very easy to generate various complex geometries or patterns according to which the magnetically orientable particles are aligned in the color.
According to another embodiment of the invention, further alignment patterns can be achieved by writing a second alignment pattern into a first generated orientation pattern with a serial arrangement of magnetic disk bodies. This results in the possibility to achieve overall patterns in the color, which can not be achieved with a single arrangement of superimposed plates, because in a singular arrangement on the surface always present closed magnetic field lines.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the at least two plate bodies are arranged one above the other on the same side with respect to a substrate carrying the ink with the magnetically orientable particles. The orientation of the plate body must be fixed to each other in order not to blur the generated magnetic field pattern during the alignment process. It is for example possible to attach the two Plattenköper by means of a double-sided adhesive tape together. It is not necessary, unlike the prior art, to use a special holder for fixed orientation of the plate bodies to each other.
According to an alternative embodiment of the invention, it is also possible that the two plate bodies are arranged on different sides of the substrate, which carries the color with the magnetically orientable particles. Realized again is that the particles are aligned in the magnetic fields of both magnetic plate body. This can in turn be done simultaneously or serially.
According to the invention, at least one of the plate bodies is provided completely circumferentially on a cylindrical carrier body. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the plate bodies are flexible. This has the advantage that the plate body can be integrated in a variety of ways in an existing printing process or in a printing press. For example, it is possible to provide the plate body on the cylindrical support body or aufzuspannen this. A corresponding flexibility allows the clamping of prefabricated plate bodies after appropriate dimensioning on cylindrical support body of different diameters.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a magnetic plate body on a plastic-bonded magnetic material. In this way, it is now commercially possible to improve the shaping of magnetic materials by plasticization and thus to make the overall shape flexible and to rationalize the production of serial numbers. For example, today polymer-bound hard ferrite and also NdFeB magnets are produced in large quantities on special injection molding machines. The use of elastomers in place of polymer as a binder results in the production of rubbery, elastic magnets. These can be produced either by extrusion or by calendering. Corresponding products exist in a wide variety on the market and can be purchased commercially for a device according to the invention.
To achieve good results in the orientation of magnetically orientable particles in a color, no large adhesive forces of the plate body are necessary. Instead, the adhesive forces F 20 g / m move adhesion of the plate bodies are each in the range of 5 g / m 2 ≤ F ≤ adhesive 500 g / m 2, preferably in the range 2 ≤ F ≤ adhesive 200 g / m 2. This is surprisingly enough to achieve good overall alignments.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the plate bodies are of different thicknesses. This is particularly advantageous when the plate body are arranged one above the other on the same side with respect to the color-carrying substrate. In that case, it is the case that the magnetic field of the plate, which is farther away from the substrate, naturally still has to penetrate the plate body located above, in order to ensure a corresponding superimposition of the magnetic fields in the region of the magnetic field generate magnetically orientable particles. Since the magnetic field strength correlates substantially linearly with the thickness of the plate bodies, it is therefore according to the invention that the thickness of the plate body increases with a greater distance of a plate body to the substrate. The respective proportion of the field line distributions on the entire magnetic field pattern is to be chosen so that in each case each of the plate body contributes to the entire pattern accordingly. It is possible that the field line distributions of all plate bodies are approximately equally weighted, but it is also possible that one or more of the plate body make only a minor contribution, for example, only about 10% to the overall picture. The thickness d of the plate body preferably moves in the range of 0.05 mm ≦ d ≦ 5 mm, particularly preferably in the range of 0.3 mm ≦ d ≦ 3 mm. These plate thicknesses are easy to produce, with appropriate choice of material also flexible and therefore easy to handle.
As already indicated above, at least one of the plate bodies, preferably all plate bodies, according to the invention is provided on a cylindrical carrier body. This may be a roller or a deflection roller, which can be integrated in a particularly simple manner into a printing process of a rotary type. It is preferred that the substrate comes with its back in direct contact with one of the plate body on the cylindrical carrier body. The size of this contact area can be described by a wrap angle α. The size of this wrap angle α is very flexible selectable and especially well adaptable to a desired process speed. However, it has been found that, in most cases, wrap angles α in the range 1 ° ≦ α ≦ 90 °, preferably 3 ° ≦ α ≦ 40 °, most preferably 3 ° ≦ 20 ° are perfectly sufficient to achieve a good alignment effect. The orientation of the magnetically orientable particles in the color is in fact very fast with the device according to the invention and typically lasts only tenths of a second. The attachment of the plate body on a cylindrical carrier body has a further advantage: After alignment, it is important not to blur the pattern produced in the removal of the substrate with the color of the plate bodies. The use of a cylindrical support body allows tangential lifting of the substrate from the cylindrical support body at the end of the loop, and the color-generated alignment pattern is not blurred in this structure.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, at least one of the magnetic field patterns of a plate body has a periodicity. Periodicity here means the regular repetition of a magnetic field characteristic along a specific direction. Significant directions here are the predetermined by the substrate or the plate body directions or the associated surface. In a superimposition of two magnetic field patterns, each with a periodicity in different directions commonly arises a total magnetic field pattern with a periodicity in two different dimensions or directions within the plane of the magnetic field plates. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, at least one of the plate bodies has strip-shaped magnetizations with polarization in the plate body plane. This results in a corresponding strip-shaped magnetic field pattern. In this case, it is preferable that the individual strips are designed to be continuous, that is, to form or cover the entire plate body along its main axis. The individual strips can be the same width or different widths. In the simplest case, the strips are actually straight or linear, but they can also z. B. serrated or wavy. Linear stripes are preferred for their ease of fabrication. In this case, an application technology relevant width of the strip in the range of 0.05 mm to 5 mm, preferably in the range between 0.1 mm and 1 mm. It is the case that opposite magnetic poles of adjacent strips meet each other.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the polarizations of two plate body are oriented differently to each other, in particular rotated by 45 °, 90 ° or 120 ° to each other. In particular, with an orientation of the polarization in the plate body level can be in this way very easy to generate regular two-dimensional pattern of the magnetic field lines of the overlay, the pattern can then be found in the way in which the magnetically orientable particles are aligned in the color. It is possible that, apart from the orientation of the plate body, at least two of the plate bodies are otherwise substantially identical to one another.
According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, in at least one of the plate bodies, the magnetic polarization is oriented perpendicular to the plate body and / or in the plate body plane.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention, a shielding plate of defined extent or shape is provided, so that on the substrate side, the magnetic field of at least one of the plate body is shielded by the shielding plate. This shielding can be done completely or partially (attenuation). The shield plate can z. B. between adjacent plate bodies or above all plate body that is close to the substrate be provided. It is possible to provide the shielding plate with one or more recesses so that zones in the region of the recesses are magnetically undisturbed, but in the covered regions magnetic fields of at least one of the plate bodies are suppressed. Shielding areas or recess areas can be embodied, for example, as geometric shapes, numbers, letters or even company logos and thus contribute to the individualization of data carriers. The shielding plate may be, for example, a shielding foil having, for example, a mu-metal. This is a Ni-Fe alloy for shielding magnetic fields. Typical material thicknesses of such shielding films are in the range of 0.05 mm to 1.0 mm, preferably in the range of 0.1 mm to 0.4 mm. In the strengths mentioned, the films are flexible and can therefore be combined in a simple manner with flexible plate bodies.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the device according to the invention for orientation of magnetically orientable particles comprises a drying unit with the aid of which the orientation of the magnetically oriented particles in the ink can be fixed. The drying unit can be arranged so that a drying already takes place when the magnetically orientable particles are still in the Einwirkbereich the alignment. But it is also possible that the drying unit is located away from the actual alignment with the plate bodies, so that the drying process is performed only when the orientation of the magnetically orientable particles is already completed or a substrate with the still wet ink layer transported to the drying unit has been. Alignment unit and drying unit can thus work either simultaneously or serially and can also be arranged accordingly in the device according to the invention. The drying unit can work in different ways, for. As thermally, microwave induced, IR radiation, electron beam curing, UV curing, etc. Preferably, the drying unit works on the basis of UV radiation curing.
Overall, radiation-curing inks are preferred which dry as a so-called 100% system. When using inks that require solvent or water removal from the paint during drying, swirling of the ink to be dried occurs, which can reduce the orientation of the magnetizable pigments and destroy the optical effect of the alignment. Therefore, the use of such inks is preferably to be combined with simultaneous drying and alignment. Radiation-curing inks, however, have an advantage over thermally drying paints in any case and should therefore preferably be used with the device according to the invention.
According to a further aspect of the invention, this relates to a printing press with a device for orientation of magnetically orientable particles in one color. The device for orientation of magnetically orientable particles in one color is designed as described in more detail above. At least the features according to claim 1 relating to the device for orienting magnetically orientable particles in one color must be realized, other feature implementations are optional. To the printing machine itself are no special requirements to make, it can be any common type of printing press. This is because the device according to the invention for orientation of magnetically orientable particles in a paint is very universally applicable.
According to a further aspect of the invention, this relates to a printing process, in particular to a rotary printing process on a roll or sheet, in which an orientation of magnetically orientable particles in a color by means of a device for orientation magnetically orientable particles in a color as generally described above becomes. Thus, what is new and innovative about the claimed printing process can be seen in the orientation step in which the inventive device is used to orient magnetically orientable particles in one color.
According to a preferred embodiment of the printing method according to the invention, the magnetically orientable ink is applied by screen printing. In this case, a radiation curing process is preferably used to cure the magnetically orientable ink. The screen printing method has the advantage that the necessary layer thickness of the color can be very easily generated with the magnetically orientable particles; Typical layer thicknesses are between 1 .mu.m and 40 .mu.m, preferably between 5 .mu.m and 20 .mu.m.
In a preferred embodiment of the printing method, in the printing method registration of the magnetic orientation to the form on a substrate is achieved by means of registration marks which are produced in the magnetic orientation. Such a registration makes it possible, for example, to position on the surface, as described above, alignment of the magnetically orientable pigments in the color within the contour of a company logo which is produced above the flat magnetic disks by means of a recessed shielding plate the magnetically orientable color is printed. According to a further preferred embodiment of the printing method according to the invention, at least one further printed security feature is applied above or below the magnetically orientable or oriented ink layer, resulting in a combined security effect. The type of additional printed security feature is in principle freely selectable, it may be, for example, thermochromic color or UV-fluorescent ink or micro-pressure.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the printing method according to the invention, in addition to the magnetically orientable particles, the color is additionally accompanied by non-magnetically orientable special pigments for achieving a combined safety effect. These non-magnetically orientable particles or special pigments may be, for. B. color effect pigments ("color shift" color), thermochromic pigments or UV-fluorescent pigments act.
A data carrier can be produced by the printing method described above. The printing process then includes an alignment step using the device according to the invention for orientation of magnetically orientable particles in one color.
In this case, the data carrier has a color layer with magnetically oriented particles which form a pattern, this pattern having a periodicity in two different dimensions of the data carrier. The data carrier is essentially planar, so that the two addressed dimensions of the data carrier span a surface. The periodicity in two different dimensions or directions of the data carrier is preferably given along mutually orthogonal directions or dimensions, however, other angles of the two directions of the periodicity are conceivable.
The data carrier may have at least one of the following security features: hologram foil, color-shift effect, guilloche printing, steel intaglio printing, micro-gravure printing, UV fluorescence, fiber incorporation, security thread, watermarks. This leads through the combination of different security features together to an overall further increased security of the data carrier according to the invention.

Overall advantageous for both a process control in sheetfed and in web printing, the choice of a UV-curing screen printing process for applying the color with magnetically orientable particles. With this printing technique, the necessary layer thicknesses (layer thicknesses between 1 .mu.m and 40 .mu.m, preferably between 5 .mu.m and 20 .mu.m) can be generated. In addition, the drying takes place via the UV-initiated crosslinking of the paint, which, in contrast to thermally drying systems, does not cause a change in the orientation of the pigments in the paint. By contrast, thermal drying causes turbulences which are inevitable when the solvent is expelled from the paint. Owing to the layer thicknesses and the associated long drying times, oxidative drying paint is largely eliminated for practical use.

With the aid of the invention, it has become possible for the first time to produce or produce security elements based on magnetically orientable particles in one color in a simple, cost-effective, fast and reproducible manner. All embodiments of the invention are based on individually designable and easily replaceable magnetic disk bodies. This results in a variety of combination options that allow you to set different magnetic patterns in one color. A combination with the further possibilities of recessed shielding elements and a partial pressure of the magnetically orientable color opens up the possibility of implementation for a customer and product-related design and correspondingly individually equipped data carriers, which are provided with a corresponding magnetically oriented security feature.
