Die vorliegende Erfindung beruht auf dem allgemeinen Gedanken, in einen Längsträger eines Kraftfahrzeuges zwei sich zumindest teilweise überlappende Einlegeteile einzubauen, welche zum einen die Biegesteifigkeit des jeweiligen Längsträgers erhöhen und zum anderen dadurch dessen Energieabsorptionsvermögen verbessern. Das erste Einlegeteil erstreckt sich dabei ausschließlich in einem ersten Bereich des Längsträgers, woran sich das zweite Einlegeteil in einem zweiten Bereich des Längsträgers anschließt. Der erste Bereich und der zweite Bereich überlappen sich dabei zumindest geringfügig. Zudem weist das zweite Einlegeteil Längsschlitze auf, über welche es auf das erste Einlegeteil aufgeschoben ist, wodurch der Überlappungsbereich gebildet wird. Die Länge der Längsschlitze bestimmt dabei den Weg des Einlegeteils, den es ohne Verformung, das heißt ohne ein Falten des Einlegteils, gegen das andere Einlegeteil verschoben werden kann. Handelt es sich bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Längsträger beispielsweise um einen vorderen Längsträger, der mit seinem vorderen Längsende an einem Stoßfänger und mit seinem hinteren Längsende an einer Stirnwand eines Fahrgastraumes angebunden ist, so ist das erste Einlegeteil in einem in Fahrtrichtung gesehen hinteren Bereich angeordnet, wogegen das zweite Einlegeteil in einem vorderen zweiten Bereich des Längsträgers angeordnet ist. Die Einlegeteile sind dabei beweglich gelagert und beispielsweise umschäumt. Umschäumt heißt in diesem Fall, dass die zwischen dem Längsträger und den jeweiligen Einlegeteilen vorhandenen Hohlräume ausgeschäumt sind, wodurch ein Zittern der Einlegeteile und damit eine unerwünschte Geräuschentwicklung vermieden werden können. Über das zweite Einlegeteil kann somit die Biegesteifigkeit des Längsträgers im zweiten, das heißt im vorderen Bereich deutlich erhöht werden, wodurch dessen Energieabsorptionsvermögen deutlich verbessert werden kann. Die beiden Einlegeteile verhindern aufgrund der ihnen eigenen Biegesteifigkeit ein Knicken des Längsträgers und ermöglichen dadurch ein kontrolliertes Falten desselben. Die Seilzugmechanik weist hierzu ein zwischen den beiden Längsträgern und entlang des Stoßfänger gespanntes Seil oder Seile auf, wobei ein Einknicken des Stoßfängers ein Auslenken des Seiles oder der Seile und damit ein nach innen Ziehen der beiden Längsträger bewirkt.
