The invention relates to a method and means for removing metal impurities from hydrocarbon fractions, such as are obtained, for example, as a product of the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis using suspended catalyst. According to the invention, the treatment of the hydrocarbon feed fraction with a demetallizing agent, comprising at least one sulfur source and at least one basic compound, takes place under anhydrous conditions. The metals to be removed are obtained as a precipitate which can easily be separated off using a mechanical separation process, for example filtration.
Description
Gebiet der ErfindungField of the invention
The invention relates to a process for the removal of metals from high-boiling hydrocarbon fractions, as well as means for their removal. In particular, the invention relates to a method and means for separating catalyst-derived nickel, cobalt and aluminum impurities from the primary products of a hydrocarbon synthesis, for example by the Fischer-Tropsch process.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
B. in
In addition to heavy metal contamination, contamination with the metal of the catalyst support matrix (eg, aluminum) is also observed. The metal contamination described may be disturbing in a further chemical-catalytic reaction of the product hydrocarbons, as these can be effective as a catalyst poison. Moreover, heavy metal contamination, irrespective of the substance in which it is contained, poses a potential environmental and health hazard. Especially nickel and cobalt, which are classified as carcinogenic, should be mentioned. On the other hand, both heavy metals are valuable catalyst building blocks, which should be fed to a recycling process in order to avoid losses.

Beschreibung der ErfindungDescription of the invention
The present invention is therefore based on the object of specifying a simple process for the removal of metal impurities from high-boiling hydrocarbon fractions and suitable means for its implementation, which is characterized by a simple process control - especially without the use of aqueous media - and that without the use of substances can be carried out with a high risk potential.
- (a) at least one sulfur source at least partially soluble in the hydrocarbon fraction,
- (b) at least one basic compound which is at least partially soluble in the hydrocarbon fraction,
Die Erfindung betrifft auch ein Entmetallisierungsmittel gemäß den Ansprüchen 2 bis 6.Further advantageous embodiments of the invention will become apparent from the dependent claims. The invention also relates to a demetallizing agent according to claims 2 to 6.
For the treatment by the process according to the invention, the feed hydrocarbon fraction must be present in liquid form. Waxy hydrocarbons, such as those obtained, for example, as products of the Fischer-Tropsch process, may need to be melted before treatment.
Particularly advantageous is the fact that with the removal of nickel and cobalt, a complete removal of originating from the substrate aluminum impurities has been achieved. Thus, a possibility has been found to carry out depletion of nickel and cobalt simultaneously with other metals, for example aluminum, in a simple one-step process. The resulting metal sulfides precipitate as a compact, with a suitable mechanical separation process very easily separated precipitate from the reaction mixture and can be supplied in this highly concentrated form of metal recovery.
- (a) The presence of a base which is at least partially soluble in the hydrocarbon. These may be, for example, ammonia, amines, alkanolamines, pyridines, ammonium, phosphonium and sulfonium compounds; in principle, however, other basic compounds come into question, which are at least partially soluble in the hydrocarbon phase to be treated.
- (b) The presence of a sulfur source. Examples of suitable sulfur sources are: organic sulfur compounds such as thiourea, thiocarbonates, dithiocarbonates, thiocarbamates, dithiocarbamates, mercaptans, organic disulfides, organic polysulfides, thiosamides; inorganic sulfur compounds such as gaseous hydrogen sulfide, ammonium sulfide, inorganic monosulfides, inorganic disulfides, inorganic polysulfides or elemental sulfur. In principle, all sulfur-containing compounds can be used according to the invention which are capable of producing or providing sulfide ions or active sulfur atoms for the precipitation reaction under the process conditions.
Weitere bevorzugte Ausgestaltungen der ErfindungFurther preferred embodiments of the invention
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, elemental sulfur is used as the sulfur source. This can be added to the hydrocarbon fraction to be treated in powder form with stirring, whereby it dissolves homogeneously in the hydrocarbon.
In a further preferred embodiment, the method according to the invention is carried out using a demetallizing agent which contains sulfur-impregnated activated carbon as the sulfur source. It is advantageous that in this way the formation of molten sulfur at the required treatment temperatures is avoided, which may solidify in colder zones of the treatment device and there may lead to caking or clogging. The sulfur-impregnated activated carbon added in powder form or as a shaped body, for example as extrudates, is retained in terms of its texture and texture and can be separated in a simple manner by means of a mechanical separation process.
In a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, it is provided that gaseous hydrogen sulfide of the hydrocarbon fraction is added as the sulfur source.
The separation of the metal-containing, sparingly soluble precipitate takes place according to the invention by means of a mechanical separation process, preferably filtration, sedimentation, decantation or centrifugation or with combinations of these processes.
In a further embodiment of the process according to the invention, use is made of sulfur-impregnated activated carbon as the demetallizing agent and, after base addition, the hydrocarbon fraction to be treated is fed to a bed of demetallizing agent in a fixed bed reactor, a hydrocarbon fraction depleted in metals being withdrawn as a product from the fixed bed reactor. In this way, the effort for the separation of the metal-containing, poorly soluble precipitate is minimized.
By adding the sulfur-containing demetallizing agent, the sulfur content of the hydrocarbon fraction obtained as product is significantly increased compared to the feed hydrocarbon fraction. Depending on the nature of the intended reuse or further treatment of the product hydrocarbon fraction, this may be advantageous. Thus, hydrocarbon synthesis by the Fischer-Tropsch process, which selectively forms long-chain, waxy hydrocarbon products, often follows a hydrocracking step which serves to produce short-chain hydrocarbons, such as a diesel fraction or a gasoline fraction. Hydrocracking is often based on cobalt-molybdenum-based catalysts, which obtain their final activity through sulfur treatment prior to their use. It is therefore provided in a further development of the method according to the invention, the obtained in carrying out the process according to the invention, demetallised hydrocarbon fraction due to their increased sulfur content to use as a sulfur donor to activate sulfur-activated catalysts.
Increased sulfur content is not always acceptable in the hydrocarbon fraction treated according to the invention. A further advantageous embodiment of the invention therefore provides for using organosulfur compounds, preferably mercaptans, most preferably trimercapto-S-triazine, as the sulfur-containing demetallizing agent. Surprisingly, the use of these components only leads to a small increase in the sulfur content in the hydrocarbon fraction treated according to the invention compared to the use of elemental sulfur based demetallizers.

Further developments, advantages and applications of the invention will become apparent from the following description of non-limiting examples of execution and numerals. All of the described features alone or in any combination form the invention, regardless of their combination in the claims or their back-reference.
Beispiel 1example 1
Der Schwefelgehalt im Filtrat betrug ca. 150 ppm.1 kg of a hydrocarbon mixture (wax fraction from the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis), with a total metal content of about 325 ppm (nickel 100 ppm, cobalt 25 ppm, aluminum 200 ppm, determined by X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF, evaluation with the method Uniquant 2)) were melted at 100 ° C. The melt was mixed with 200 mg of elemental sulfur in powder form and 1.2 g of triethanolamine. Both substances were distributed homogeneously by vigorous stirring during heating to 180 ° C in the liquid HC phase. Subsequently, the mixture was heated with vigorous stirring to 180 ° C and held this temperature for 5 minutes. Even from a temperature of 160 ° C, a significant black-brown increase in color caused by forming NiS or CoS could be observed. After completion of the stirring, a blackish-brown precipitate settled very quickly at the bottom of the reaction vessel. This precipitate was very easily separated from the entire reaction mixture by means of a pleated filter. Analysis of the filtrate showed no detectable concentration of nickel, cobalt and aluminum (detection limit 5 ppm). The sulfur content in the filtrate was about 150 ppm.
Beispiel 2Example 2
Andererseits kann, falls erforderlich, der Schwefelgehalt in dem Kohlenwasserstoffprodukt durch geeignete Dosierung auf ein Minimum reduziert werden.1 kg of a hydrocarbon mixture (wax fraction from the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis), with a total metal content of about 325 ppm (nickel 100 ppm, cobalt 25 ppm, aluminum 200 ppm) were melted at 100 ° C. The determination of the metal concentrations was carried out as described in Example 1. The melt was mixed with 300 mg of elemental sulfur and 3 g of triethanolamine. Both substances were distributed homogeneously by vigorous stirring during heating to 180 ° C in the liquid HC phase. Subsequently, the mixture was heated to 180 ° C. with vigorous stirring and held that temperature for 5 minutes. Again, from a temperature of 160 ° C a significant black-brown increase in color caused by forming NiS or CoS could be observed. The sulfur content in the filtrate was about 250 ppm, so it was significantly higher than in example 1. It follows that it is possible to control the sulfur content of the hydrocarbon product by adding the sulfur source above the stoichiometric amount needed for complete metal separation, to optimally adapt it to downstream process stages, such as the sulfur activation of a Co-Mo hydrocracking catalyst. On the other hand, if necessary, the sulfur content in the hydrocarbon product can be minimized by appropriate dosing.
Beispiel 3Example 3
Der Schwefelgehalt im Filtrat betrug ca. 1100 ppm.1 kg of a hydrocarbon mixture (wax fraction from the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis), with a total metal content of about 325 ppm (nickel 100 ppm, cobalt 25 ppm, aluminum 200 ppm) were melted at 100 ° C. The melt was treated with 10 g of Desorex HGD2S (activated carbon product from DONAU CARBON with about 10-15% elemental sulfur content in the form of 1/8 "extrudates), corresponding to a sulfur concentration of 1000-1500 ppm, and 0.5 g of triethanolamine added. Subsequently, the mixture was heated with vigorous stirring within 30 minutes to a temperature of 185 ° C and held this temperature for 5 minutes. Even from a temperature of 160 ° C a significant black-brown increase in color caused by forming NiS or CoS could be observed. Upon reaching 185 ° C, precipitation in the form of flocculation was observed. After completion of the stirring, the reaction mixture was hot-poured on a pleated filter. The precipitate was easily separated from the entire reaction mixture by filtration. The sulfur-impregnated activated carbon added as extrudates was preserved in terms of its texture and texture and settled on the bottom of the reaction vessel after the stirrer had been switched off. Analysis of the filtrate showed no detectable concentration of nickel, cobalt and aluminum (detection limit 5 ppm). The sulfur content in the filtrate was about 1100 ppm.
Beispiel 4Example 4
Die Analysen der Metall- und Schwefelgehalte wurden dabei wieder mittels Röntgenfluoreszensanalyse (RFA) nach der Methode UNIQUANT 2 durchgeführt.1 kg of a hydrocarbon mixture (wax fraction from the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis), with a total metal content of about 325 ppm (nickel 100 ppm, cobalt 25 ppm, aluminum 200 ppm) were melted at 90 ° C. The melt was charged with 200 mg TATCROSS ® TMT (Evonik Degussa GmbH) added with 98% trimercapto-S-triazine). During mixing, the powdery preparation was initially undissolved as a suspension in the molten wax. Only after the addition of 2 g of triethanolamine to the reaction mixture did the solid dissolve; subsequently, a significant turbidity occurred in the liquid phase. Subsequently, the mixture was stirred at 90-100 ° C for a further 10 min. The turbidity was then very easily separated from the entire reaction mixture by means of a pleated filter. Analysis of the filtrate showed no detectable concentration of nickel and aluminum (detection limit 5 ppm each). The content of cobalt was 5 ppm, the sulfur content in the filtrate was about 50 ppm. Upon leaving the filtrate at 100 ° C in the oven for one hour, slight turbidity was observed. After this sample was filtered off repeatedly, no cobalt could be detected in the filtrate. The sulfur content remained unchanged. The analyzes of the metal and sulfur contents were again carried out by means of X-ray fluorescence analysis (RFA) according to the method UNIQUANT 2.
VergleichsversuchComparative test
The experiment of Example 1 was repeated under the same conditions and with the same feed hydrocarbon mixture, but no triethanolamine and no other base were added. Even when heated to 180 ° C no discoloration of the hydrocarbon phase and no precipitate formation could be observed. The subsequent XRF analysis of the hydrocarbon showed a metal content, unchanged within the accuracy of analysis, for the three individual metals or their sum. Consequently, the presence of a base in the demetallizing agent is a necessary requirement for the feasibility of the process according to the invention.
Gewerbliche AnwendbarkeitIndustrial Applicability
The invention provides a process for the removal of metal impurities from hydrocarbon fractions which, compared to the processes known in the prior art, is distinguished by its simplicity of apparatus and by the absence of additional extractants, in particular foreign, such as aqueous solutions. Furthermore, it is advantageous that only substances with low to medium risk potential are used, and the use of substances with high potential risk, such as hydrogen fluoride, is avoided.
