Die vorliegende Erfindung beruht auf dem allgemeinen Gedanken, bei einer B-Säule einer Karosserieseitenstruktur eines Kraftfahrzeuges ein im Wesentlichen U-förmiges Verstärkungselement innerhalb der B-Säule vorzusehen, wobei das U-förmige Verstärkungselement derart zwischen einer Innensäule und einer Außensäule der B-Säule angeordnet ist, dass seine Öffnung nach unten weist. Sowohl seine beiden U-Schenkel als auch sein U-Rücken bilden demnach quer zur Innensäule bzw. zur Außensäule verlaufende Aussteifungsstege, wobei eine Verbindung des U-förmigen Verstärkungselementes mit der Innensäule bzw. der Außensäule über seitlich an den U-Schenkeln bzw. am U-Rücken angeordnete und abgewinkelte Laschen erfolgt. Das Verstärkungselement ist somit einerseits zumindest über drei Laschen an der Innensäule und andererseits über zumindest drei Laschen an der Außensäule befestigt. Im Vergleich zu einer orthogonal dazu ausgerichteten Anordnung des U-förmigen Verstärkungselementes tragen somit nicht nur die beiden U-Schenkel, sondern auch der U-Rücken zur Aussteifung der B-Säule bei. Darüber hinaus bildet das U-förmige Verstärkungselement drei Seitenwände einer Aufnahme für einen Gurtaufroller, welcher üblicherweise durch eine entsprechende Ausnehmung in der Innensäule der B-Säule eingesetzt werden kann. Die erfindungsgemäße B-Säule mit dem besonders ausgebildeten und angeordneten Verstärkungselement bietet somit im Vergleich zu bisher bekannten B-Säulen höhere Steifigkeitswerte und zugleich eine verbesserte Funktionalität, da bei der erfindungsgemäßen B-Säule das Verstärkungselement gleichzeitig eine Umrandung der Aufnahme für den Gurtaufroller bildet und diesem nicht, wie bei aus dem Stand der Technik bekannten Verstärkungselementen, im Wege steht.The The present invention is based on the general idea, in a B pillar of a body side structure of a motor vehicle a substantially U-shaped reinforcing element provided within the B-pillar, the U-shaped Reinforcing element such between an inner column and an outer column of the B-pillar is that its opening points downwards.
