Abstract
The invention relates to the use of liquid-crystalline nematic substances in optoelectronic components (displays). The object of the invention are mixtures with low optical birefringence, which are suitable for use in optoelectronic displays. It has been found that novel crystalline liquid 2,5-disubstituted trans-1,3-dioxadecalins of the general formula are well suited as low birefringence components for mixtures used in optoelectronic devices.

In recent years, many new applications have been proposed, "requiring displays with very specific properties, no pure substances are known which even approximately meet the requirements of the art." Therefore, mixtures of crystalline-liquid substances are always used have the door part that you can modify the properties within a wide limits by appropriate choice of the mixture components and thus adapt to specific applications ·
Pur Gemische, die für den Guest-Host-Effekt verwendet werden sollen, sind insbesondere Gemische mit niedriger optischer* Doppelbrechung (Δ η) vorteilhaft* Gemische für Schadt-Helfrich-Zellen verleihen den Displays günstige Eigenschaften im Hinblick auf die Ablesbarkeit der Information unter flachen Winkeln, wenn die Gemische eine geringe optische DoppelbrechungIn particular, mixtures with low optical * birefringence ( Δη ) are advantageous for mixtures which are to be used for the guest-host effect. Blends for Schadt-Helfrich cells give the displays favorable properties with regard to the readability of the information under shallow Angle when the mixtures have a low optical birefringence

Since the birefringence of a mixture is approximately additive from the values of the pure components, substances with low values of birefringence are a necessary requirement for obtaining mixtures of low birefringence.
The aim of the invention are mixtures with low optical birefringence, which are suitable for use in optoelectronic displays.
The object of the invention are components which impart low optical birefringence to liquid-crystalline nematic mixtures.
