Abstract

1.- Un método para eliminar el manganeso del licor de desecho por lo menos conteniendo manganeso y magnesio, y que comprende los pasos de: (a) añadir un primer agente neutralizante a una primera mezcla de licor de desecho y una solución reciclada para precipitar la mayoría del manganeso como sólidos conteniendo manganeso, sin precipitar una cantidad sustancial del magnesio; (b) separar los sólidos conteniendo manganeso para formar una solución agotada de manganeso; (c) oxidar la solución agotada de manganeso formada en el paso (b) en presencia de semilla reciclada con un agente oxidante mientras se ajusta el pH con un segundo agente neutralizador para formar una solución acuosa conteniendo un precipitado de manganeso; (d) transferir la solución acuosa formada en el paso (c) a un espesador para producir una solución 'overflow' que contiene una cantidad de manganeso que está por debajo de un criterio de descarga ambiental predeterminada y una solución 'underflow' conteniendo un precipitado de manganeso; (e) descargar las soluciones de 'overflow' y 'underflow' del espesador; (f) separar el precipitado de manganeso de la solución 'underflow'; (g) reciclar una parte del precipitado de manganeso separado al paso (c) como la semilla de reciclado; (h) disolver una parte restante del precipitado de manganeso separado para formar la solución reciclada; y (i) transferir la solución reciclada al paso (a). 2.- El método de la reivindicación 1, en donde el agente neutralizador es un álcali o un compuesto de metales terrosos alcalinos. 3.- El método de la reivindicación 1, en donde el agente neutralizador se selecciona de por lo menos uno del grupo consistente de compuestos metálicos terrosos de álcali, compuestos metálicos terrosos alcalinos, hidróxido de sodio, hidróxido de amoniaco, hidróxido de potasio, carbonato de sodio y carbonato de calcio.
