Abstract
Un aparato de filtro de arena lento que comprende:Un contenedor que tiene una porción superior y una porción inferior;una entrada de agua en la porción superior del contenedor conectada a un suministro de agua; un material de filtro que llena al menos la parte inferior del contenedor; el material del filtro tiene una superficie por debajo de la entrada de agua;una capa de schmutzdeuke en la porción inferior del contenedor por debajo de la superficie del material del filtro; yun dispositivo de mantenimiento del nivel del agua en la porción superior que mantiene agua en la porción superior del contenedor a un nivel de mantenimiento por encima de la superficie del material del filtro; el nivel de mantenimiento es un equilibrio entre (1) un nivel de mantenimiento de agua lo suficientemente profundo como para que el agua que caiga de la entrada del agua a la parte superior del agua en el contenedor no perturbe mucho la capa de schmutzdeuke; y (2) un nivel de mantenimiento de agua lo suficiente poco profundo como para que el oxígeno del aire por encima del nivel del agua se pueda difundir a través del agua y llegar a la capa de schmutzdeuke de modo que está capa se mantenga en condición viviente aun cuando no haya flujo de agua a través de la entrada de agua. - 2 -2Un método de operación del filtro de arena lento; el filtro incluye un contenedor, material de filtro que llena parcialmente el contenedor, una entrada de agua por encima del material del filtro y una salida de agua dentro del material del filtro; el método consiste de los siguientes pasos:mantener el nivel del agua en el contenedor por encima de la superficie del material del filtro a un nivel que sea un equilibrio entre (1) un nivel de mantenimiento de agua lo suficientemente profundo como para que el agua que caiga de la entrada del agua a la parte superior del agua en el contenedor no perturbe mucho la capa de schmutzdeuke; y (2) un nivel de mantenimiento de agua lo suficientemente poco profundo como para que el oxígeno del aire por encima del nivel del agua se pueda difundir a través del agua y llegar a la capa de schmutzdeuke de modo que está capa se mantenga en condición viviente aun cuando no haya flujo de agua a través de la entrada de agua.
