Un método para producir K2DNABT en donde un nitrato de bistetrazol se nitra usando un agente nitrante seleccionado entre los siguientes: dusulfato de dinitronio; una mezcla de ácido nítrico y ácido sulfúrico; una mezcla de ácido nítrico y pentóxido de fósforo; y ácido nítrico con anhídrido acético.
