背景技术

除非另作说明,说明书和权利要求通篇使用的术语“重量%”是指在水相或液相中以w/w为基础计算的总组成的重量百分数。该定义涵盖了:例如,被引入混合物中的可能不全部溶于水相中的固体,可能包括凝胶的水相,以及可能包括蛋白质消化物的悬浮液、乳液、或溶液的水相。
肝消化物中的肝可来自任何来源。特别优选肝来源可容易地获得并且可容易地制得。组合物中的肝可经过化学变化或处理或消解。肝消化物也可在市场上买到。所述肝来源的例子包括猪肝、牛肝、鸡肝及其混合物。优选用于本发明实践的是猪肝或鸡肝。
本发明组合物中肝消化物的浓度适当地为约1到约20重量%。适当的代表性的最小肝消化物浓度包括例如1、5、10和15重量%。适当的代表性的最大肝消化物浓度包括10和20重量%。本发明优选的肝消化物浓度为约3到约10重量%。特别优选用于本发明实践的肝消化物浓度为约3到约7重量%。特别优选用于本发明实践的为含有约5重量%的肝消化物浓度的食品组合物。在一个方面,肝消化物的浓度可以是实现改善的适口性的最小浓度,所述改善的适口性通过观察伴侣动物自发地选择所述组合物而不是水得以说明。
当使用术语“食品”时,其不仅是指通常对伴侣动物提供大部分(如果不是全部的)营养价值的食品,而且还指诸如零食、点心(treat)、补品等物品。
组合物可被提供给任何需要增加液体摄取的哺乳动物,特别是伴侣动物例如狗或猫。例如,可能看似健康的、或目前正患有下尿路疾病(LUTD)、或倾向于发展为LUTD的动物,特别是狗或猫。可能由于外伤例如疾病、损伤或手术等而临时需要增加液体摄取的动物。
已经在狗或猫中观察到本发明的流体组合物的所需效果,当提供本发明的作为流体来源的流体组合物时观察到总流体消耗增加,并伴有排泄增加。这些观察结果可在已脱水的动物中见到,在这种情况下,喂养流体组合物旨在减轻或减少这一问题。
与未使用流体组合物的狗和猫相比,使用流体组合物引起狗和猫的总水摄入量高得多,尿排出量更高,并相应地降低尿比重。另外,其为宠物主提供了具有非常低能量含量的流体食物(fluid treat),其可特别用于具有与超重或肥胖症有关的问题、或其它病症如关节炎、糖尿病、高血压和心血管疾病的宠物,如猫和狗。高度适口性的流体食物还改善了处在高蛋白膳食和/或各种增加了对水摄入的需求的状况如糖尿病、哺乳、锻炼和生长下的动物的水平衡。
除了肝消化物之外,还可使用另外的适口性增强剂或香味素,用于进一步增强对猫或狗的适口性。可获得许多这种物质,包括动物消化物;动物水解物;动物内脏及其消化物,诸如肺和心脏;肉类,例如牛肉、羔羊肉、猪肉、鸡肉和火鸡肉;水产食品,例如鱼、蟹和虾;乳制品,例如奶、乳酪、或乳清浓缩物;酵母;肽;氨基酸;核苷酸;脂肪;油类;人造肉和/或海产食物调味剂;maillard反应物;糖;植物提取物;和芳香物质,包括对猫或狗具有吸引力的天然和/或人造物质。
另外的适口性增强剂的量足够引起适口性增强,适口性增强可通过观察伴侣动物自发地选择含有这些物质的组合物而不是水得以证明。其量通常为约0.1到10重量%,希望最小的重量%为约0.3或1.0重量%。
可包括其它组分,例如营养物质,如用作食物增补剂的维生素和矿物质;防腐剂;着色剂;活性剂,包括抗菌剂、消炎剂、和驱寄生虫剂;抗氧化剂;草本和/或植物提取物;增稠剂等,所有组分以有效量被提供。另外的组分的量足够引起所需效果。其量通常为约0.01到5.0重量%,需要的最小的重量%为流体的约0.1或1.0重量%。
在一个方面,其它组分可另外地包括食物增补剂,如预定量的氨基酸、蛋白质、维生素或矿物质,本领域中已知这些物质通常为良好的动物健康提供营养支持。在其它方面,增补剂可含有被兽医学领域所公知的特定制剂,所述特定制剂为预防性地维持处在遭遇疾病或病症高危险条件下的动物提供营养支持,所述疾病或病症如年长的猫的糖尿病或肥胖症。在其它方面,增补剂还可能包括抗生素或其它药物,这些药物可口服给用并且纯形式的这些药物的味道对于伴侣动物而言较差。
因此,流体可以作为增补剂以及活性组分所用的输送系统。
组合物通过标准方法容易地制备和混合。例如,流体的制备可为,在常温或高温条件下,只要温度适当,将所有组分混合在容器中并搅拌。可在混合组分之前或之后通过过滤或离心除去固体。
总之,狗和猫当利用本发明的具有满足营养需求的膳食结构的流体时,可经历显著增加的总水摄入量和尿生成量、和显著减少的尿比重。狗和猫的水摄入主要通过其中大多数这些伴侣动物生活的环境中的水进行补充。当干食品或罐头食品膳食补充以速溶流体组合物时,狗或猫与原先水平相比可以经历至少约20重量%的总水摄入量的增加,并可增加到70重量%或80重量%。尿生成量与原先水平相比可增加至少约20重量%,可获得原先水平的超过约90重量%或100重量%的增加。尿比重与原先水平相比可减少约20重量%、30重量%或所需的至少约40重量%。
实施例
由上述SAWA流体组合物对猫和狗造成的影响通过以下的非限定性实施例进行评价。
实施例1
SAWA流体的制备
将冷冻猪肝研磨通过1/8″板。将200磅的经过研磨的猪肝放置在容量为300磅的壶中。向壶中加入20磅的水,混合物在用搅拌桨混合的同时加热到145。向混合物中加入181.6g的ENZECO-AS-L(购自Enzyme Development Co.的真菌蛋白酶)。然后将混合物保持在145维持1小时,然后加热到160。加入181.6g的Papain 6000(购自Valley Research,Inc.的植物蛋白酶)。将混合物加热到195,并在该温度保持15分钟。然后将混合物冷却到100,并通过#20筛(US筛目)过滤。收集通过筛的部分用作“适口性增强剂”级分。然后将适口性增强剂加入到去离子水中,形成水性混合物,其含有5重量%的适口性增强剂。将去离子水和适口性增强剂在APV混合容器中合并,并混合30分钟。混合物过夜经历重力分离,同时使冷自来水通过APV容器的封套。从APV倾析上清液并用于填充多个14盎司的罐,将罐密封,并在252蒸馏45分钟,将罐冷却到室温并称之为SAWA。
实施例2
猫的研究
在八只用市售的维持性干猫粮喂养的成年猫中试验实施例1中制备的SAWA。测量了各研究组的总水摄入量、总尿排出量和尿比重。使用了交叉研究设计。将猫随机分成两组,每组四只猫。一组供应装在两个塑料瓶中的饮用水,每个塑料瓶含有约500克的饮用水(对照组)。另一组供应装在两个塑料瓶中的饮用水和SAWA,一个塑料瓶含有约500克的饮用水,另一个塑料瓶含有约500克的SAWA(SAWA组)。两周后,对照组和SAWA组进行交叉并相应地处理另外的两周。在两周和四周的研究期间,每天测量水摄入量和尿排出量。测量对照组的总水摄入量为得自饮用水的水摄入量和得自食品中的水的总和。SAWA组的总水摄入量为得自饮用水的水摄入量和SAWA及食品中的水的总和。通过使用带盖塑料瓶获取排放自研究组中每只猫的尿的量来测量总的尿排出量,所述带盖塑料瓶通过塑料管连接到圈养猫的不锈钢盘上,用在收集尿之前和之后塑料瓶的重量差进行测量。使用折射计测量尿比重。研究组的结果取平均值。还测量了尿中的主要矿物质和尿pH值。使用光学发射光谱仪(Optima 4300 DV,PerkinElmerInstruments,Norwalk,CT,USA)测量尿矿物浓度,使用pH计测量尿pH值。为了评价相对适口性,在研究过程中除了给用SAWA之外还给用了饮用水,记录各自的消耗量。猫几乎仅饮用SAWA。
表1表明SAWA显著地增加总水摄入量和尿生成量,并降低尿比重。尿的磷、镁、钙、钠和钾的矿物浓度显著地减少。SAWA未影响尿pH。在研究过程中未观察到副作用。这些结果显示了SAWA可通过增加尿量和稀释尿的矿物浓度而用于预防、治疗和控制猫的尿石症。

实施例3
使用比较产品的猫的研究
该研究比较了得自实施例1的SAWA和市售产品(其作为宠物饮料进行配制并销售)的功效。SAWA与市售物质比较,所述物质包括WalthamFeline/Canine Veterinary DietTM Rehydration SupportTM,和得自在水中包装的罐装StarKist牌大块淡金枪鱼(light tuna)的金枪鱼汁(余量为水)。金枪鱼汁用水稀释,使得稀释后的金枪鱼汁的氮浓度类似于SAWA中的氮浓度。
使用了类似于实施例2中的交叉研究设计。实施例2中的2组被目前的4组取代。它们分别是对照组(饮用水组)、SAWA组、WalthamFeline/Canine Veterinary DietTM Rehydration SupportTM组和经过稀释的金枪鱼汁组。八只猫被喂养了维持性干猫粮。本试验方法遵循实施例2的方法,用每种产品代替了实施例2的SAWA。研究结果示于表2。
如果实施例2中所观察到的,SAWA显著地增加了总水摄入量和尿量并降低尿比重。尿的磷、镁、钙、钠和钾的矿物浓度也显著地减少。
WalthamFeline/Canine Veterinary DietTM RehydrationSupportTM为兽用产品,其与电解质配制而成,用于帮助急性腹泻、呕吐和兽医手术后的再水合。该产品含有麦芽糖糊精、钠、钾、柠檬酸盐和甘氨酸,其比例和浓度通过兽医认定为,在脱水的狗和猫中可接受地和有效地补偿水和电解质的损失并用于修复酸碱平衡。当与对照组中的猫相比时,该试验组未经历增加的总水摄入量(当用干物质摄入量进行校正时),也未增加尿生成量,该产品对猫的水平衡有很少的或几乎没有影响,但是显著地增加了尿中钠的排泄,其对患有慢性肾衰竭的猫是有害的。

SAWA显著地增加总水摄入量和尿生成量,并降低了尿比重,减少了尿矿物浓度。这些结果显示SAWA可通过增加尿量和减少尿比重从而预防和控制狗的尿石症。

实施例5
使用比较产品的狗的研究
使用拉丁方格研究设计在九只成年比格尔犬中进行比较研究。市售宠物饮料,WalthamFeline/Canine Veterinary DietTM RehydrationSupportTM和K9 Quencher Electrolyte Ice CreamTM与饮用水进行了试验。试验结果示于表5中。
Waltham Feline/Canine Veterinary DietTM RehydrationSupportTM不增加狗的总水摄入量和尿生成量,并且当与去离子水相比时具有差的适口性。Waltham Feline/Canine Veterinary DietTMRehydration SupportTM的平均摄入量为212.6克/天,去离子水的平均摄入量为393.7克/天。
K9 Quencher Ice CreamTM显著地增加水摄入和尿量、诱导尿稀释。然而,SAWA似乎在增加狗的总水摄入量和尿生成量方面更有效。给予SAWA的狗的日均总的水摄入量和尿生成量分别为930克/天和528克/天,而给予K9 Quencher Ice CreamTM的狗分别为762.2克/天和395.4克/天。

Claims (14)
1.由伴侣动物经口消耗的用于帮助增加总水摄入量和尿生成量以及降低尿比重的组合物,该组合物包括与水混合从而形成水溶液或悬浮液的肝消化物,肝消化物以促进自发性摄食的有效量存在。
2.权利要求1的组合物,其中肝消化物包括猪肝消化物。
