Abstract
本发明公开了一种等离子显示面板设备及其驱动方法。在显示面板的温度或者该显示面板的环境温度高于基准温度时,增加一帧期间施加的复位上升波形的数量。因此,可以防止因为建立放电而降低显示面板的对比度,而且在高温下,可以实现稳定放电。

技术领域
本发明涉及一种等离子显示面板设备及其驱动方法,本发明更特别地涉及一种通过根据温度施加不同的驱动波形,即使在显示面板或者驱动电路的温度升高时,仍可以确保稳定放电的等离子显示面板设备及其驱动方法。
背景技术
等离子显示装置是具有在其上形成有阻挡肋的后衬底与和后衬底对着的前衬底之间形成放电单元,而且在高频电压使每个放电单元内的惰性气体放电时,产生真空紫外线,以辐照荧光体,从而显示图像的装置。
图1是示出一般等离子显示面板的结构的透视图。
首先,在与前衬底10对着的后衬底18上,利用用于分离放电空间的多个阻挡肋24,形成放电单元。
在后衬底18上形成寻址电极(X),而在前衬底10上,成对形成扫描电极(Y)和维持电极(Z)。寻址电极(X)与其他电极(Y和Z)交叉。
利用在其上形成的寻址电极(X),在后衬底18上形成用于累积壁电荷的介质层22。
在介质层22上形成阻挡肋24,以限定其间的放电空间,而且防止放电产生的紫外线和可见光泄漏到相邻放电单元。荧光体26喷涂在介质层22的表面和阻挡肋24的表面上。
因为放电空间内注入了惰性气体,所以气体放电期间产生的紫外线激发荧光体26,产生红色、绿色和蓝色可见光之一。
在前衬底10上形成的扫描电极(Y)和维持电极(Z)分别包括透明电极12Y和12Z以及总线电极13Y和13Z,而且它们与寻址电极(X)交叉。形成介质层14和保护膜16以覆盖扫描电极(Y)和维持电极(Z)。
利用寻址电极(X)与扫描电极(Y)之间的表面(facing)放电,选择具有这种结构的放电单元,而且利用扫描电极(Y)与维持电极(Z)之间的表面放电,维持放电,从而发出可见光。
扫描电极(Y)和维持电极(Z)分别包括透明电极12Y和12Z以及其宽度比透明电极12a窄而且形成在透明电极12Y和12Z的边缘部分的总线电极13Y和12Z。
图2是示出一般等离子显示面板的一帧的示意图,而图3是一般等离子显示面板的波形图。
参考图2,在该等离子显示面板上,为了表示图像的灰度级,将一帧划分为几个分别具有不同照射时间并根据时分(time division)驱动的子场(SF1至SF8)。每个子场(SF1至SF8)包括:复位周期(R),用于初始化放电单元内的壁电荷;寻址周期(A),用于选择扫描行,然后从选择的扫描行中选择放电单元;以及维持周期(S),用于根据发生维持放电的次数,实现灰度级。
在一个周期期间,累计在包括复位周期(R)、寻址周期(A)和维持周期(S)的子场内实现的灰度级,而且如果利用256个灰度级表示图像,如图2所示,则将对应于1/60秒的帧周期划分为8个子场(SF1至SF8),而且每个子场分别表示2n(n=0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7)个灰度级。
现在,参考图3说明子场内的驱动波形。对于施加到扫描电极(Y)的复位波形,复位周期(R)包括:在其间提供以斜坡波形上升的建立(set-up)波形(RU)的周期(SU);以及在其间提供以斜坡波形下降的撤消(set-down)波形(RF)的周期(SD)。由于显示面板的电压通过建立波形(RU)升高,所以发生复位放电,而且在介质层14上形成壁电荷。此外,由于显示面板的电压通过撤消波形(RD)而降低,所以擦除了某些不必要的壁电荷。
在寻址周期(A)期间,将负扫描脉冲(SCP)顺序地施加到各扫描电极(Y),而且,同时,将正数据脉冲(DP)施加到寻址电极(X)。由于扫描脉冲(SCP)与数据脉冲(DP)之间的电压差以及在复位周期期间产生的壁电荷被累加,所以在施加了数据脉冲(DP)的单元内产生寻址放电。
在维持周期(S)期间,对扫描电极(Y)和维持电极(Z)交替施加维持脉冲(SP),而且根据扫描电极(Y)与维持电极(Z)之间的压差以表面放电形式产生维持放电。
在以这种方式驱动(工作)的相关技术等离子显示面板上,在维持周期(S)期间对应于子场灰度级显示图像,但是,因为即使在复位周期(R)期间,仍显示根据建立放电产生的光,所以不能表示要求的灰度级,因此,降低了对比度。
此外,在以40℃或者更高温度的高温驱动它时,相关技术的等离子显示面板设备发生故障。
更具体地说,在以高温驱动等离子显示面板(工作)时,放电单元内的介质层和保护层的绝缘特性降低,以致产生了漏电流,而且因为该漏电流,损耗(损失)根据建立放电产生的壁电荷,因此,不能正常产生下一个寻址放电,从而导致错误放电。
发明内容
为了解决相关技术的这种问题,设计了本发明,因此,本发明的目的是提供一种通过根据温度施加不同的驱动波形,即使在显示面板或者驱动电路的温度升高时,仍可以确保稳定放电的等离子显示面板设备及其驱动方法。
为了实现上述目的,提供了一种用于驱动等离子显示面板的方法,该方法包括:在显示面板的温度和显示面板的环境温度的至少之一升高时,增加在一帧期间施加的复位升高波形的数量。
如果检测的温度值小于特定基准温度,则仅对一帧中的一个子场施加复位上升波形,而在包括在一帧中的第一子场的复位周期期间,施加该复位上升波形。
仅对施加了复位上升波形的子场之外的其他剩余子场施加复位下降波形,而且该复位下降波形下降到先前子场的最后维持波形的高电位。
如果检测的温度值超过特定基准温度值,则在一帧期间,至少分别对两个或者更多个子场施加第一复位上升波形和第二复位上升波形。
在这种情况下,在第一子场期间,可以施加第一复位上升波形,而在包括在一帧中的各子场中位于表示最高灰度级的子场后面的子场期间,可以施加第二复位上升波形。
此外,第一复位上升波形的电压值大于第二复位上升波形的电压值,而且仅在施加了复位上升波形的子场之外的其他剩余子场期间,施加复位下降波形。
为了实现上述目的,还提供了一种等离子显示面板设备,包括:扫描驱动器,用于在显示面板的温度或者该显示面板的环境温度高于一定基准温度时,增加一帧期间施加的复位上升波形的数量,以致该复位上升波形的数量可以大于在显示面板的温度或者该显示面板的环境温度不高于该基准温度值情况下施加的复位上升波形的数量。
因此,当在高温下,驱动等离子显示面板(工作)时,由于额外施加复位下降波形,所以可以补偿因为漏电流引起的壁电荷的损失。

现在,将参看附图说明根据本发明实施例的等离子显示面板设备以及在高温下附加施加复位上升波形的驱动波形。
根据本发明的等离子显示面板具有多个实施例,而不局限于本发明描述的实施例。
现在,参考图4至6说明本发明的优选实施例。
图4示出用于驱动根据本发明的等离子显示面板的设备。
参考图4,用于驱动等离子显示面板的设备包括:显示面板30;数据驱动器32;扫描驱动器34;维持驱动器36;数据驱动器32,用于施加如图5和6所示的驱动波形,以对在高温下驱动等离子显示面板时损耗的壁电荷进行补偿,从而提高该显示面板的对比度;定时控制器38,用于控制扫描驱动器34和维持驱动器36的开关时间;以及温度传感器40。
显示面板30包括多个形成在扫描电极(Y)、维持电极(Z)以及寻址电极(X)的交叉点的放电单元31。
在定时控制器38的控制下,数据驱动器32将数据脉冲送到寻址电极(X)。
在定时控制器38的控制下,扫描驱动器34将复位升高波形、复位下降波形、扫描脉冲以及维持脉冲送到扫描电极(Y)。
在定时控制器38的控制下,维持驱动器36将正DC电压和维持脉冲送到维持电极(Y)。
温度传感器40检测显示面板30的温度和/或者显示面板30的环境温度,然后,将检测的温度值送到定时控制器38。
定时控制器38控制数据驱动器32、扫描驱动器34以及维持驱动器36的开关时间。此外,根据温度传感器40提供的温度值,定时控制器38从控制扫描驱动器34提供的驱动波形,即,在复位周期期间提供的驱动波形。
更具体地说,定时控制器设置有由温度传感器40检测的温度值。如果温度传感器40检测的温度是基准温度或者更低,则定时控制器38确定它是正常温度,因此,扫描驱动器34仅在一帧的第一子场的复位周期期间提供复位升高波形。
然而,如果温度传感器40检测的温度高于基准温度,则定时控制器38确定它是高温,然后,对含有包括在一帧中的各子场中的第一子场的至少两个或者更多个子场,扫描驱动器34提供复位升高波形。
以这种方式,在用于驱动等离子显示面板的设备上,施加如图5和6所示的驱动波形,以致即使在高温下,仍可以稳定放电,因此,可以提高该显示面板的对比度。
图5示出根据本发明第一实施例的驱动波形图。本发明第一实施例的特征在于,仅对一帧的第一子场(SF1)施加导致建立放电的斜坡形式的复位升高波形(RU),而对剩余的其他子场(SF2至SF8)仅施加复位下降波形(RD),从而根据建立放电,减少弱光(faint light)的发射,从而提高该显示面板的对比度。
在一帧,在第一子场(SF1)的建立时间(SU)期间,同时对每一扫描电极(Y)施加升高到建立电压的复位升高波形(RU)。因此,在每个放电单元均产生建立放电,从而在每个放电单元产生壁电荷。
施加了复位升高波形(RU)后,同时对每个扫描电极(Y)施加复位下降波形(RD),该复位下降波形(RD)从维持电压(Vs)下降到低于复位升高波形的峰值电压。然后,在只有进行寻址放电所需的壁电荷可以保留在放电单元内时,而擦除壁电荷中的不必要电荷和根据建立放电产生的空间电荷(space charge)。
在寻址周期(A)期间,对扫描电极(Y)顺序施加负扫描脉冲(SCP),而对寻址电极(X)施加与该负扫描脉冲同步的正数据脉冲(DP)。然后,在根据扫描脉冲(SCP)与数据脉冲(DP)之间的压差以及建立周期(SU)期间产生的壁电荷,对其施加数据脉冲的单元内,产生寻址放电。
同时,在撤消周期(SD)以及寻址周期(A)期间,对维持电极(Z)施加某个正DC电压,在该撤消周期(SD)期间,对扫描电极(Y)施加斜坡形式的复位下降波形。
在维持周期(S)期间,对扫描电极(Y)和维持电极(Z)交替施加维持脉冲(SP),因此,在扫描电极(Y)与维持电极(Z)之间以表面放电形式产生维持放电。在此,相应于每个子场的亮度权重值,设置维持周期(S)期间施加的维持脉冲(SP)的数目。
在维持周期(S)期间,在施加了维持脉冲(SP)后,对扫描电极(Y)施加最后的(last)维持脉冲(SP1)。在这种情况下,为了在放电单元内充分形成壁电荷,在比其他维持脉冲(SP)的施加时间(T1)长的时间(T2)内施加最后的维持脉冲(SP1)。
当在第一子场(SF1)内产生最终维持放电时,在第二子场(SF2)的复位周期(R)期间,同时对扫描电极(Y)施加从最后维持脉冲(SP1)的高电位电压(Vs)下降的斜坡形式的复位下降波形(RD)。
即,在对扫描电极(Y)施加复位下降波形(RD)时,在第一子场(SF1)的维持周期(S)期间发生了维持放电的导通(ON)单元发生擦除放电,因此,不能均匀保留寻址放电所需的壁电荷。
同时,对于在第一子场(SF1)的维持周期(S)期间未发生维持放电的关闭(OFF)单元,维持在第一子场(SF1)的建立周期(SU)期间形成的壁电荷,并且因此,根据第二子场(SF2)的复位下降波形(RD),在OFF单元发生如此低的擦除放电。
此后,在第一子场(SF)的寻址周期(A)和维持周期(S)期间施加的驱动波形与在第一子场(SF)的寻址周期(A)和维持周期(S)施加的驱动波形相同,因此,省略说明它们。
在其中施加如图5所示的根据本发明第一实施例的驱动波形的等离子显示面板设备上,由于仅在一帧的一个子场(SF1)的复位周期期间,产生基于建立放电的光,而在剩余的其他子场期间,不产生基于建立放电的光,所以与相关技术的显示面板相比,可以提高该显示面板的对比度。
图6是根据本发明第二实施例的驱动波形。在图6所示的本发明的第二实施例中施加的驱动波形与在第一实施例中施加的驱动波形相同,而且在高温情况下,为了对因为漏电流引起的壁电荷损失进行补偿,在第一子场(SF1)的复位周期期间,施加第一复位上升波形(RU1),而在第i子场(SFi)的复位周期期间,额外地施加第二复位上升波形,以分别在每个放电单元内产生壁电荷,从而提高显示面板的对比度。
首先,在确定显示面板的温度或者显示面板的环境温度高时,即,它高于基准温度时,在第一子场(SF1)以及后面的子场(SF2至SFi-1和SF1+1)期间,施加根据本发明第一实施例的驱动波形。
特别是,在第一子场(SF1)的复位周期(R)期间,施加复位上升波形(RU1)和复位下降波形(RD),而且在这种情况下,将复位上升波形称为第一复位上升波形(RU1)。
此外,在后面的子场的复位周期期间,仅施加复位下降波形(RD),以将复位周期(R)期间发射到显示面板外部的光减少到最少,因此,提高了显示面板的对比度。
在高温情况下,由于因为漏电流损耗了第一复位上升波形(RU1)产生的壁电荷,所以在第i(i是3或者大于3的自然数)子场(SFi)的复位周期期间,分别对每个扫描电极(Y)额外地施加上升到第二电压(V2)的第二复位上升波形(RU2)。
因此,由于因为第二复位上升波形(RU2)而在每个放电单元内产生建立放电,所以在该放电单元内产生壁电荷,因此,可以补偿先前子场期间损耗的壁电荷。
即,通过在第i子场(SFi)的复位周期期间,分别对每个扫描电极(Y)施加第二复位上升波形(RU2),可以再一次产生在高温时被复合(re-combined)或者泄漏的壁电荷,因此,可以稳定产生寻址放电或者维持放电,因而,提高了显示面板的对比度。
此外,在第i子场(SFi)的复位周期期间施加了第二复位上升波形(RU2)后,对扫描电极(Y)施加从维持电压(Vs)降低到低于第二复位上升波形的峰值电压(V2)的复位下降波形(RD),以擦除放电单元内的不必要电荷,从而允许仅在其内保留寻址放电所需的壁电荷。
在第i子场(SFi)的寻址周期期间,对扫描电极(Y)顺序地施加负扫描脉冲(SCP),与此同时,对寻址电极(X)施加正数据脉冲(DP)。由于扫描脉冲(SCP)与数据脉冲(DP)的压差以及在复位周期期间产生的壁电荷的累积,所以在施加了数据脉冲(DP)的单元内发生寻址放电。因此,通过在选择的单元内的寻址放电来产生某些壁电荷。
同时,在其间施加复位下降波形(RD)的撤消周期(SD)期间和寻址周期(A)期间,对维持电极(Z)施加一定的正DC电压。
在第i子场(SFi)的维持周期(S)期间,对维持电极(Y)和维持电极(Z)交替施加维持脉冲(SP),以致在扫描电极(Y)与维持电极(Z)之间以表面放电的形式发生维持放电。
此后,在后面包括第(i+1)子场(SFi+1)的某些子场的复位周期期间,仅施加复位下降波形(RD),从而将复位周期(R)期间产生的光减少到最少,因此,提高了显示面板的对比度。
根据本发明,优选的,第二复位上升波形的电压值(V2)大于第一复位上升波形。
因此,第i子场(SFi)的复位周期(R)期间产生的光量等于或者小于第一子场的复位周期期间产生的光量。
第二复位上升波形的最高电压值(V2)是用于在第一子场之后的子场期间补偿因为高温损耗的壁电荷的电压,其可以利用实验来确定该电压。
在本发明中,优选的,施加第二复位上升波形(RU2)的子场(SFi)位于一帧的子场中表示最高灰度级的子场之后(后面)。
更具体地说,在该帧中,通常将表示一帧的最高灰度级的子场的维持周期设置得最长。因此,当在高温下驱动(被操作)显示面板时,在位于表示该帧中的最高灰度级的子场之后(后面)的子场,发生错误放电的概率高。
因此,在本发明中,通过在位于表示最高灰度级的子场之后(后面)的子场的复位周期期间施加第二复位上升波形(RU2),可以实现稳定驱动。此外,由于在维持周期期间,表示最高灰度级的子场产生的大量的光,所以最好在表示最高灰度级的子场之后施加第二复位上升波形(RU2),以防止色对比度降低。
在本发明中,设置至少一个或者多个子场以施加第二复位上升波形(RU2)。如果利用两个子场施加第二复位上升波形(RU2),则在一帧中,用于施加第二复位上升波形(RU2)的各子场优选位于表示最高灰度级的子场以及表示次高灰度级的子场之后(后面)。
如上所述,在根据本发明第二实施例的等离子显示面板设备及其驱动方法中,在显示面板位于正常温度范围内时,仅在一个子场的复位周期期间,施加复位上升波形,因此,可以实现高对比度。此外,当在高温下驱动等离子显示面板(被操作)时,分别在至少两个或者更多个子场的每个复位周期施加复位上升波形,因此,可以增强对比度,此外,即使在高温下,仍可以以稳定方式驱动等离子显示面板(操作)。
为了说明和描述本发明,上面对本发明的优选实施例进行了描述。上述描述仅是示例性的,并不用于使本发明局限于所公开的具体形式,而且根据上面讲述的内容,可以进行各种修改和变更,或者通过实施本发明,可以获得各种修改和变更。本发明的范围由所附的权利要求及其等效范围所限定。
Claims (20)
1.一种用于驱动等离子显示面板的方法,包括:
在显示面板的温度和显示面板的环境温度至少之一升高时,增加在一帧期间施加的复位升高波形的数量。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中如果检测的温度值小于一定基准温度,则仅对一帧中的单个子场施加复位上升波形。
3.根据权利要求2所述的方法,其中基准温度值是40℃。
4.根据权利要求2所述的方法,其中在包括在一帧中的第一子场的复位周期期间,施加复位上升波形。
5.根据权利要求2所述的方法,其中仅对施加了复位上升波形的子场之外的其他剩余子场施加复位下降波形。
6.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中复位下降波形在先前子场的最后维持波形下降。
7.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中如果检测的温度值超过一定基准温度值,则在一帧期间,至少分别对两个或者更多个子场施加第一复位上升波形和第二复位上升波形。
8.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其中对第一子场施加第一复位上升波形。
9.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其中对包括在一帧中的各子场中位于表示最高灰度级的子场后面的子场施加第二复位上升波形。
10.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其中第二复位上升波形的最高电压电平低于第一复位上升波形的最高电压电平。
11.根据权利要求7所述的方法,其中仅对施加了第一和第二复位上升波形的子场之外的其他剩余子场施加复位下降波形。
12.一种用于驱动其中根据时分将一帧至少划分为一个或者多个子场的等离子显示面板的方法,包括:
相应于显示面板的温度和该显示面板的环境温度,改变在一帧期间施加的复位上升波形的数量。
13.根据权利要求12所述的方法,其中在该温度不低于基准温度时施加的复位上升波形的数量大于在该温度低于基准温度时施加的复位上升波形的数量。
14.一种等离子显示面板设备,包括:
扫描驱动单元,用于在显示面板的温度或者该显示面板的环境温度高于一定基准温度时,增加一帧期间施加的复位上升波形的数量,以致该复位上升波形的数量大于在显示面板的温度或者该显示面板的环境温度不高于该基准温度情况下施加的复位上升波形的数量。
15.根据权利要求14所述的设备,其中在检测的温度值不高于一定基准温度值时,扫描驱动单元仅对单元帧的第一子场施加复位上升波形。
16.根据权利要求14所述的设备,其中在检测的温度值大于基准温度值时,在该单元帧的第一子场以及该第一子场之外的至少一个或者多个子场的每个复位周期期间,扫描驱动单元施加第一和第二复位上升波形。
17.根据权利要求16所述的设备,其中在包括在一帧中的各子场中,对位于具有最高灰度级的子场后面的子场施加第二复位上升波形。
18.一种等离子显示面板设备,包括:
显示面板,具有至少一个或者多个电极;以及
扫描驱动单元,用于仅在一帧中的一个子场的复位周期期间,施加复位上升波形和复位下降波形,而在其他剩余子场的复位周期期间,仅施加复位下降波形。
19.根据权利要求18所述的设备,其中对其施加复位上升波形的子场是该帧的第一子场。
20.根据权利要求18所述的设备,其中在其间施加复位下降波形的先前子场的最后维持波形的高电位维持周期比其他维持波形的高电位维持周期长。
