技术领域

背景技术
通常,一个等离子显示面板包括一个前基板和后基板。前基板和后基板之间形成的隔条形成一个单位单元。每个单元填充有一种主放电气体,例如氖(Ne)、氦(He)或NE+He的混合气体,以及一种含有少量氙(Xe)的惰性气体。如果惰性气体在高频电压下放电,就会产生真空紫外射线。则形成在隔条之间的荧光体被激发而显示图像。该等离子显示面板可以做得很薄,而且已经作为下一代显示设备而倍受瞩目。
图1示出了一个一般的等离子显示面板的结构。

此外,扫描驱动器203在定时控制器201的控制下,将扫描信号和维持信号施加到扫描电极Y1到Yn。维持驱动器204在定时控制器201的控制下,将一个维持信号施加到每个维持电极Z。经过这个过程,等离子显示面板205被驱动。下面将参考图3说明在等离子显示面板构造中实现图像灰度的方法。

如图3所示,为了表现现有技术的等离子显示面板的图像灰度,将一个帧分成多个子场(sub-fields),每个子场带有不同的发射次数。每个子场又被分成一个用于初始化整个单元的复位周期(RPD)、用于选择要放电的单元的寻址周期(APD)、以及用于根据放电次数实现灰度级的维持周期(SPD)。
例如,如果想要显示256灰度级的图像,一个对应于1/60秒的帧周期(16.67ms)被分成8个子场(SF1到SF8),如图2所示。8个子场(SF1到SF8)中的每个又再次被分成为复位周期、寻址周期和维持周期。
每个子场的复位周期和寻址周期是相同的。因为寻址电极和扫描电极(即透明电极)之间的电位差,产生了用于选择将要放电的单元的寻址放电。而维持周期在每个子场中以2n的比例递增(这里n=0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7)。
如上所述,由于维持周期在每个子场是不同的,图像的灰度级就通过控制每个子场的维持周期来显现,例如,控制维持放电次数。下面将参考图4描述取决于等离子显示面板的驱动方法的驱动波形。

在复位周期的建立周期内,一个上倾斜波形(Ramp-up)被同时施加到整个扫描电极。该上倾斜波形在整个屏幕的放电单元内产生弱无光放电。该建立放电导致正壁电荷被聚集在寻址电极和维持电极上,而负壁电荷被聚集在扫描电极上。
在复位周期的撤消周期内,在施加上倾斜波形之后,一个下倾斜波形(Ramp-down)(其从低于上倾斜波形的峰值电压的一个正电压开始下降到一个低于地线电压的预定电压)在单元内产生一个弱擦除放电,从而有效的擦除扫描电极上形成的过多的壁电荷。该撤消放电使寻址放电能稳定地发生的一定量的壁电荷均匀地保留在单元内。
在寻址周期,当负扫描脉冲被顺序地施加到扫描电极时,正电压(Va)的数据脉冲被同步施加到寻址电极和扫描电极。当扫描脉冲和数据脉冲的电位差以及在复位周期内产生的壁电压被累加时,在施加了数据脉冲的放电单元内产生寻址放电。此外,在施加维持电压(Vs)的时候能够产生放电的一定量的壁电荷在由寻址放电选择的单元内形成。在维持电极上施加一个正电压(Vz),使得通过减少在撤消周期和寻址周期内维持电极和扫描电极之间的放电,来防止在维持电极和扫描电极之间产生错误的放电。
在维持周期,将维持脉冲(sus)交替地施加到扫描电极和维持电极。在由寻址放电选择的单元内,当单元内的壁电压和维持脉冲被累加时,只要施加维持脉冲,则在扫描电极和维持电极之间产生维持放电(例如,显示放电)。
在维持放电完成之后,在擦除周期内,一个具有窄脉冲宽度和低电压电平的擦除斜波(Ramp-ers)被施加到维持电极,从而擦除残留在整个屏幕上的单元内的壁电荷。
同时,如果在等离子显示面板加电的同时立刻输入了一个正常的驱动脉冲,则残留在等离子显示面板的各个单元内的壁电荷就显示出来。因此,当等离子显示面板被加电时,如果输入了一个正常的驱动脉冲,就产生了一个问题,则由于在驱动脉冲的复位脉冲的刺激下残留的壁电荷放电,在人能够在屏幕上看到上一次等离子显示面板关闭时显示的一定量的的残留影像。
而且,如果在等离子显示面板加电的同时立刻输入了一个正常的驱动脉冲,用于驱动脉冲的高电压(Vs,Va)立即被施加。这样会产生错误的放电现象。由于等离子显示面板过载还会出现损坏元件的问题。
发明内容
因此,本发明的目的是至少解决现有技术的问题和缺陷。
本发明的一个目的是提供一个等离子显示设备及其驱动方法,其可以消除等离子显示面板加电时出现的残留影像并避免错误的放电现象以及对元件的损坏。
按照本发明的一个方面,一个等离子显示设备包括一个带有扫描电极和维持电极的等离子显示面板,和一个控制器,该控制器用于在等离子显示面板加电之后的一个预定的时间内施加一个维持脉冲到扫描电极和维持电极,该维持脉冲是第一个施加的脉冲。

图5是一个视图,用于说明按照本发明的一个实施例的等离子显示面板的驱动设备。如图5所示,按照本发明实施例的等离子显示面板的驱动设备包括一个数据调整器500、定时控制器501、数据驱动器502、扫描驱动器503和维持驱动器504。

如上所述,在施加正常的驱动脉冲之前,能量可以充分的存储在能量存储单元内,而且等离子显示面板的壁电荷能够被均匀分布。这些将在后面更详细的描述。
图6是一个波形图,用于说明按照本发明的一个实施例的等离子显示面板的上电序列。
如图6所示,在根据本发明的实施例的上电序列中,当等离子显示面板加电,逻辑信号(5V)、维持电压(Vs)和寻址电压(Va)顺序施加到驱动器上。
一旦等离子显示面板加电(t0),逻辑信号(5V)从电源提供单元(未示出)施加到每个驱动器上。
在t2之后,将维持电压(Vs)施加到维持驱动器或扫描驱动器,并将寻址电压(Va)施加到数据驱动器。
在t5之后,等离子显示面板的屏幕根据一个显示启动信号开始显示。即,在施加显示启动信号之后,一个正常的驱动脉冲被施加到等离子显示面板的每个电极,这样屏幕就开始显示。
因此,在本发明的一个实施例中,在上电序列期间,施加一个用于充电(charge energy)的维持脉冲和用于使壁电荷均匀分布的子复位脉冲。下面将结合图7详细描述维持脉冲和子复位脉冲。
图7是一个波形图,用于说明按照本发明的一个实施例,当等离子显示面板加电时,所施加的维持脉冲和子复位脉冲。
如图7所示,在本发明的一个实施例中,上电序列周期包括一个施加维持脉冲的充电周期(energy charge period),以及施加子复位脉冲的子复位周期。
将在充电期间施加的维持脉冲交替施加到扫描电极和维持电极。当交替地施加维持脉冲时,不施加开启电压。因此,不会产生放电而且能量被充分保存在能量存储单元。
即,按照本发明的一个实施例,在充电期间施加的维持脉冲是一个具有低于开启电压的电压电平的脉冲,而且具有一个低于用于放电的维持脉冲的电压电平,该维持脉冲是在一个正常的维持周期被施加的。因此,其可以在施加正常的驱动脉冲时防止施加瞬间的高电压(Vs,Va)。
这时,将维持脉冲施加1到4秒,例如60帧到240帧。
按照本发明的一个实施例,在子复位周期被施加的子复位脉冲的建立波形具有一个高于在标准的复位周期中施加的子复位脉冲的建立波形的电压值。按照本发明的实施例的子复位脉冲的波形具有类似于出现在标准的复位周期中的复位脉冲的波形。即,子复位脉冲的波形既有电压逐渐上升的建立倾斜脉冲,也有一个电压逐渐降低的撤消倾斜脉冲。此外,子复位周期在充电期间之后连续的以时间序列的方式出现。
此外,子复位脉冲能在每一帧中施加。另外,施加到每一帧的子复位脉冲的数量可以是一个或多个。优选的,一个子复位脉冲可以施加到每一帧。子复位脉冲被施加1/6到1秒,并形成10帧到60帧。
由于等离子显示面板关闭而残留的壁电荷的分布可以充分的使其均匀。这样可以在施加第一个正常的驱动脉冲的复位脉冲时避免产生残留影像。
同时,在按照本发明的一个实施例的图7中,示出了包括充电周期和子复位周期的波形。本发明的技术精神并不局限于此。换句话说,按照本发明的技术精神,如果等离子显示面板被加电,只能出现维持脉冲在一个预定时间周期内交替施加的充电周期,或只能出现复位脉冲在一个预定时间周期内施加的子复位周期。
这样描述了本发明,清楚的是可以有多种修改方式。这种修改不认为是脱离本发明的主旨和范围,而且对本领域技术人员而言是显而易见的是,所有这样的修改都被包括在随后的权利要求书的范围中。

Claims (20)

1.一种等离子显示设备,包括:
等离子显示面板,其包括一个扫描电极和维持电极;以及
控制器,其用于在等离子显示面板加电之后的一个预定的时间内施加一个维持脉冲到扫描电极和维持电极,该维持脉冲是第一个施加的脉冲。
2.如权利要求1所述的等离子显示设备,其中该维持脉冲的电压电平低于开启电压。
3.如权利要求1所述的等离子显示设备,其中该预定的时间范围从60帧到240帧。
4.如权利要求1所述的等离子显示设备,在该预定时间内能量被存储在该等离子显示设备中。
5.如权利要求1所述的等离子显示设备,其中该预定的时间不包括复位周期和寻址周期。
6.如权利要求1所述的等离子显示设备,其中在预定时间内将维持脉冲施加到扫描电极和维持电极之后,在初始周期内将初始脉冲施加到扫描电极和维持电极的至少一个。
7.一种等离子显示设备,包括:
等离子显示面板,其包括扫描电极和维持电极;以及
控制器,用于在等离子显示面板加电之后的一个预定的时间内施加维持脉冲到扫描电极和维持电极的至少一个,该复位脉冲是第一个施加的脉冲。
8.如权利要求7所述的等离子显示设备,其中该复位脉冲包括一个带有逐渐上升的电压的建立倾斜脉冲和带有逐渐降低的电压的撤消倾斜脉冲。
9.如权利要求7所述的等离子显示设备,其中第一个施加的复位脉冲的最大幅度大于其它复位脉冲的最大幅度。
10.如权利要求7所述的等离子显示设备,其中预定的时间的范围从10帧到60帧。
11.如权利要求10所述的等离子显示设备,其中在每一帧中施加该复位脉冲。
12.如权利要求11所述的等离子显示设备,其中在每一帧中施加的复位脉冲具有一个子复位脉冲。
13.一种驱动等离子显示设备的方法,该等离子显示设备具有包含扫描电极和维持电极的等离子显示面板,其中在等离子显示面板加电之后的一个预定的时间内将维持脉冲施加到扫描电极和维持电极,该维持脉冲是第一个施加的脉冲。
14.如权利要求13所述的方法,其中该维持脉冲的电压电平低于开启电压。
15.如权利要求13所述的方法,其中该预定的时间的范围从60帧到240帧。
16.如权利要求13所述的方法,其中在该预定时间内能量被存储在该等离子显示设备中。
17.如权利要求13所述的方法,其中该预定的时间不包括复位周期和寻址周期。
18.如权利要求13所述的方法,其中在预定时间内将维持脉冲施加到扫描电极和维持电极之后,在初始周期内将初始脉冲施加到扫描电极和维持电极的至少一个。
19.如权利要求18所述的方法,其中该初始脉冲的最大幅度大于复位脉冲的最大幅度。
20.如权利要求18所述的方法,其中初始周期范围从10帧到60帧。
