等离子显示面板包括形成在前基底和后基底之间的阻挡条(barrierribs)。该阻挡条和该前后基底一起组成单元。每个单元充填有主放电气体,例如氖(Ne)、氦(He)或包括Ne和He的混合气体。另外,每个单元包括包含少量氙的惰性气体。

发明内容

图1说明了根据本发明第一实施例的等离子显示设备。
参见图1,该等离子显示设备包括:在其上显示图像的等离子显示面板PDP;向该等离子显示面板的多个电极提供驱动信号的包括数据驱动器20、扫描驱动器21和维持驱动器23的多个驱动器;检测该等离子显示面板周围亮度的传感器300;以及控制该多个驱动器20、21、23以根据从该传感器300提供的该周围亮度的信号控制该等离子显示面板上显示的图像的控制器200。
图2为显示图1的等离子显示面板的透视图。
如图2所示,该等离子显示面板包括用作显示图像的显示面的前基底100,和形成后表面的后基底110。该前基底100与该后基底110相互以预定距离平行。

如图所示,在给出的子场期间,与X、Y和Z电极相关的该波形被分成用于初始化所有单元的复位周期、用于选择将要放电的单元的寻址周期、用于保持所选择单元的放电的维持周期,以及用于消除每个放电单元内的壁电荷的清除周期。
在该复位周期的建立周期(set-up period)期间,倾斜向上波形(Ramp-up)被同时施加给所有Y电极。结果,在整个显示屏的所有放电单元内产生弱无光放电(weak dark discharge)。应当理解术语“无光放电”表示在提供的单元内的放电,其产生少量或没有可见光发射。该建立放电导致正极性的壁电荷堆积在X电极和Z电极处,而负极性的壁电荷堆积在Y电极处,其中Z电极表示该持续电极。
在该撤除周期期间,在提供该上升波形后,从比该上升波形峰值电压低的正极性电压下降至提供的比地平电压GND低的电压的倾斜向下波形(倾斜下降)。该下降波形导致了在所有单元内产生弱清除放电。因此,在该Y电极上形成的过度的壁电荷被充分清除。该撤除放电还优化该寻址周期的壁放荷,以致于能够在适当的单元内稳定地产生寻址放电。
在该寻址周期期间,当依次向该Y电极施加负扫描信号(Scan)时,与该扫描信号同步向该X电极施加正数据信号。由于在该扫描信号和数据信号之间的电压差异,以及在该复位周期期间产生的壁电压,在那些施加有数据信号的放电单元内产生寻址放电。此外,当施加维持电压Vs时,足够用于产生放电的壁电荷利用寻址放电形成在选择的单元内。在该撤除周期和寻址周期期间,将正极性电压Vz施加到该Z电极,从而通过减少在该Z电极和Y电极之间的电压差而不在该Y电极上产生错误放电。
在该维持周期期间,将维持信号(Sus)交替施加到该Y电极和Z电极。在寻址周期期间选择的单元内,只要施加该维持信号,就在该Y电极和Z电极之间产生维持放电(即,显示放电)。
在该维持周期完成后,存在一清除周期,在该清除周期期间,与清除倾斜波形(Ramp-ers)相关的具有小的脉冲宽度和低的电压水平的电压被施加给该Z电极,从而清除在所有单元内剩余的壁电荷。

如(b)中说明的,当该等离子显示面板检测到的周围亮度水平小于基准亮度水平时,该控制器200控制复位信号的最大电压比当该检测到的周围亮度水平等于平均周围亮度水平时施加到该扫描电极Y的固定的复位信号的最大电压低。即,该复位信号的最大电压从该建立电压(Vsetup)减少到减少了预定电压(ΔV)的建立电压。
此外,当该等离子显示面板的周围亮度水平小于基准亮度水平时,该控制器200控制维持信号的数量比当该检测到的周围亮度水平等于平均周围亮度水平时施加到该扫描电极Y或该持续电极Z的固定的维持信号的数量少。
在驱动该等离子显示面板时,至少一个复位信号的最大电压和维持信号的数量可在帧的整个子场内被控制或在帧的整个子场的至少一个子场内被控制。
图5说明了形成在该等离子显示设备中的传感器的位置。
参见图5,该等离子显示设备的整个区域被分成显示图像的显示区域330和不显示图像的不显示区域320。
该传感器300定位在该等离子显示设备的不显示区域320上。优选的,该传感器300可定位在该不显示区域320的角的部分上。
此外,该不显示区域320可以是覆盖该等离子显示面板以保护该等离子显示面板不受外部冲击的壳体的一部分。
传感器的数量可以是单个或多个。
如上所述,该等离子显示设备根据该等离子显示面板的周围亮度通过控制该驱动信号的电压或驱动信号的数量改善了对比度的特性。
图6为根据本发明第二实施例的等离子显示设备的框图。
参见图6,在该第二实施例中,该等离子显示设备包括其上显示图像的等离子显示面板PDP,检测该等离子显示面板周围的目标移动的检测器400,以及该目标的移动控制在该等离子显示面板上显示的图像的控制器500。
由于该等离子显示面板的结构与第一实施例中说明的该等离子显示面板的结构相同,其说明被省略。
此外,由于该等离子显示面板的驱动方法与第一实施例中说明的该等离子显示面板的驱动方法相同,说明也被省略。
如第一实施例中说明的,该检测器400也定位在该等离子显示设备的不显示区域上,并优选地定位在该不显示区域的角的部分上。
该检测器400可包括用于获取目标照片的照相机,而照相机的数量可以是多个。
每个照相机可包括图像存储器410以存储该目标的图像。
在该情况中,照相机能够检测到的区域可通过操作遥控器(未示出)来控制。即,该遥控器控制每个照相机的检测区域,从而每个照相机能够在目标的不同方向上获取目标的照片。
图7说明了根据第二实施例的等离子显示面板周围的目标移动驱动该等离子显示面板的方法。
如图7中说明的,该检测器400检测在该等离子显示面板周围中目标的移动,并向该控制器200提供目标的检测信号,而该控制器200根据来自该检测器400的检测信号控制将转换成预定模式的在该等离子显示面板上显示的图像。
该检测器400检测该目标是否移动,并检查在该目标移动时该目标的移动的持续时间。
该控制器500在目标移动时控制该等离子显示面板的图像屏幕转换成图像模式530,并且控制该等离子显示面板的图像屏幕在第一基准时间的持续期间目标不移动时转换成延迟模式510。
该延迟模式510是在该等离子显示面板上不显示的模式。
在该延迟模式中,虽然该等离子显示设备处理图像数据(即,R、G、B和Y、U、V),但该等离子显示设备不向该等离子显示面板的电极施加数据信号或维持信号。
此外,在该目标在大于第一基准时间持续时间的第二基准时间持续期间不移动时,该延迟模式510可转换成备用模式520。
该备用模式520是向该等离子显示设备施加最小电压以在该目标移动时在该等离子显示面板上显示图像的模式。在这种情况下,该备用模式520是数据信号和维持信号的至少一个也不施加到等离子显示面板的电极的模式。
该检测器400可通过利用该目标的灰度值或该目标的矢量值定义该目标的移动。
例如,该目标的移动可利用该目标的第一灰度值和该目标的第二灰度值的差来定义。该第一灰度值是在该等离子显示面板周围的给定位置在第一时间检测的该目标的灰度值,而该第二灰度值是在该等离子显示面板周围的相同位置在第一时间后的第二时间检测的该目标的灰度值。
该目标的矢量值是在该等离子显示面板周围的给定位置的该目标移动的方向值和数量值。
如上所述,该等离子显示设备根据该等离子显示面板周围的目标的移动通过将图像显示屏转换成的图像模式或延迟模式减少了能量消耗,并在该等离子显示面板上显示获取的目标照片的图像。
这样对本发明进行了说明,对其作许多方式的变化是显而易见的。这种变化不认为是脱离本发明的精神和范围,并且所有这些对本领域技术人员来说是显而易见的变化是要包括在接下来的权利要求的范围内。
Claims (20)
1.一种等离子显示设备,包括:
用于检测等离子显示面板的周围亮度的传感器;以及
用于根据周围亮度控制驱动等离子显示面板的驱动信号的电压和驱动信号的数量的至少一个的控制器。
2.根据权利要求1的等离子显示设备,其中在该周围亮度等于或大于基准亮度时,该驱动信号的电压和该驱动信号的数量的至少一个大于在该周围亮度等于该等离子显示面板的平均周围亮度时的固定的驱动信号的电压和固定的驱动信号的数量的至少一个。
3.根据权利要求1的等离子显示设备,其中在该周围亮度小于基准亮度时,该驱动信号的电压和该驱动信号的数量的至少一个小于在该周围亮度等于该等离子显示面板的平均周围亮度时的固定的驱动信号的电压和固定的驱动信号的数量的至少一个。
4.根据权利要求1的等离子显示设备,其中该驱动信号是在复位周期期间施加到该等离子显示面板的电极的复位信号。
5.根据权利要求1的等离子显示设备,其中该驱动信号是在维持周期期间施加到该等离子显示面板的电极的维持信号。
6.根据权利要求1的等离子显示设备,其中在多个子场的至少一个子场中控制该驱动信号的电压和该驱动信号的数量的至少一个。
7.根据权利要求1中的等离子显示设备,其中该传感器的数量是多个。
8.根据权利要求1的等离子显示设备,其中该传感器形成在该等离子显示面板的不显示区域上。
9.一种等离子显示设备,包括:
检测器,用于检测等离子显示面板周围的目标移动;以及
控制器,用于将图像模式转换成延迟模式的,以在第一基准时间持续期间该目标不移动时,在该等离子显示面板上不显示图像。
10.根据权利要求9的等离子显示设备,其中目标的移动是在该等离子显示面板周围的相同位置上该目标的第一灰度值和第二灰度值的差,或该目标的移动的矢量。
11.根据权利要求9的等离子显示设备,其中该控制器在第二基准时间持续期间该目标不移动时将图像模式转换成备用模式。
12.根据权利要求9的等离子显示设备,其中该延迟模式是在寻址周期期间不向该等离子显示面板的电极施加数据信号的模式。
13.根据权利要求9的等离子显示设备,其中该延迟模式是在维持周期期间不向该等离子显示面板的电极施加维持信号的模式。
14.根据权利要求9的等离子显示设备,其中该检测器包括用于获取该目标照片的照相机。
15.根据权利要求14的等离子显示设备,其中该照相机包括用于存储该目标的图像的图像存储器。
16.根据权利要求9的等离子显示设备,其中该检测器形成在该等离子显示面板的非显示区域上,以及该检测器的数量为多个。
17.一种等离子显示设备,包括:
检测器,用于检测等离子显示面板周围的目标的移动;以及
控制器,用于将图像模式转换成备用模式,以在第一基准时间持续期间该目标不移动时,在该等离子显示面板上不显示图像。
18.根据权利要求17的等离子显示设备,其中该备用模式是在该目标移动时显示图像的模式。
19.根据权利要求17的等离子显示设备,其中该备用模式是在寻址周期期间不向该等离子显示面板的电极施加数据信号的模式。
20.根据权利要求17的等离子显示设备,其中该检测器形成在该等离子显示面板的非显示区域上,且该检测器的数量是多个。
