背景
广播公司,例如电视和无线电广播公司,正设法为受众提供除传统媒体流外的数字补充服务,例如节目信息、新闻、天气信息、比赛和其他相关内容。数字补充服务通常使用受众的个人计算机或能够连接到因特网的其它设备而递送给受众。
通过蜂窝电信系统中的用户设备给观众提供更多的移动性,这些用户设备装配有接收器,例如FM无线电装置,用来接收由广播公司广播的媒体流。广播公司典型地提供因特网服务,该服务可以被能够连接到该服务的用户设备,例如装配有WAP(无线应用协议)的设备访问。为了获得所需服务,要求用户浏览广播公司的网站并选择合适的服务。为了将可用服务告知用户,广播公司通常在实际的电视或无线电广播,或者在其他大量媒体中宣传他们的因特网地址。
然而,由用户来访问服务存在与复杂性相关的问题。复杂性来自于需要由广播公司广告服务地址和由用户记住想要的服务地址。此外,通过复杂的因特网网页结构找到正确的服务地址是费力费时的。访问服务的复杂性导致了将用户连接到服务的障碍大和服务效率低下。
发明简述
本发明的一个目的是提供一种给用户设备提供服务的改进方法和系统。根据本发明的第一方面,提供一种为蜂窝电信系统的用户设备提供服务的方法,该服务通过蜂窝电信系统的无线电接口传送,用户设备包括用于在蜂窝电信系统中通信的用户终端和用来接收由无线电广播系统提供的媒体流的媒体接收器,该方法包括:传送302关联数据来使得媒体流与服务相关联;在用户设备接收关联数据;和配置包括蜂窝电信系统和广播系统的系统来通过使用关联数据给用户设备提供与媒体流相关联的服务。

本发明的方法和系统提供了多个优点。在本发明的一个实施例中,由用户设备接收的关联数据使得能够配置系统给用户设备提供与媒体流关联的服务,以至用户在配置系统上的作用是很小的。在一个实施例中,本发明通过使用配置在用户设备中的预先设置来使能不同的媒体流和关联服务间的选择。

实施 方案描述
图1举例说明一个按照本发明的一个方面的系统的简化结构的例子。本系统包括蜂窝电信系统的通信网络116(COM NET)、广播系统(BCS)118和蜂窝电信系统的用户设备(UE)110。
蜂窝电信系统是基于例如GSM(全球移动通信系统)无线接入技术或者WCDMA(宽带码分多址)技术的。蜂窝电信系统的结构和功能对本领域技术人员来说是公知的,而且将描述和本发明相关的网络单元。
通信网络116给用户设备110提供移动服务。广播系统118利用,例如,无线电或电视广播提供媒体流。
通信网络116可以代表蜂窝电信系统的固定基本设施。通信网络116包括一个代表通信网络116的与无线电无关的层的核心网(CN)114,以及至少一个无线电接入网(RAN)104。核心网114可以包括不同代的蜂窝电信系统的网络单元。无线电接入网104使用无线电接入技术给用户设备110提供无线电接口。
在图1所示的例子中,核心网114根据使用了电路交换和分组交换网络单元的GSM术语来进行示例。分组交换网络单元根据GPRS(通用分组无线业务)系统来描述,它给用户设备110提供经由GSM到外部数据网络的访问,并且支持例如TCP(传输控制协议)和IP(网际协议)的标准协议。然而,本发明并不是限于例子中描述的系统,系统的部分,或者用于该系统的协议,而是可以应用到任何蜂窝电信系统。
在蜂窝电信系统中,中心100分别代表移动业务交换中心(MSC)和使能电路交换和分组交换信令的GPRS业务支持节点(SGSN)。
服务GPRS支持节点100的功能是与支持分组交换传输的用户设备110之间收发分组。服务GPRS支持节点100包括与用户设备110有关的用户信息和位置信息。
核心网114也可以具有代表网关移动服务交换中心(GMSC)和网关GPRS支持节点(GGSN)的网关单元102。GMSC专注于核心网114和诸如公共陆地移动网络(PLMN)或者公共交换电话网络(PSTN)的外部网络(EXT)124之间的电路交换连接,并且GGSN专注于核心网114和外部网络124例如因特网之间的分组交换连接。
中心100控制无线电接入网104,它可以包括至少一个控制至少一个基站(BS)108的基站控制器(BSC)106。基站控制器106也可以被称为无线电网络控制器,以及基站108可以被称为节点B。
媒体流126由广播系统118广播。媒体流126可以包括例如无线电或者电视节目、广告或者通知。媒体流126可以包括演讲、音乐或者图片。但是,媒体流126的内容和本解决方案无关。
按照本发明一个方面的系统更进一步包括连接到通信网络114和广播系统118的服务器(SERVER)112,其通过使用蜂窝电信系统的无线电接口来给用户设备110提供与媒体流关联的服务128。服务器112可以是一个计算机,例如带有到通信网络114和广播系统118接口的个人计算机或者工作站。服务器112的物理位置直到被请求连接为止与存在的外部网络和设备无关。

基站108可以使用GPRS方式和用户设备110通信,GPRS方式使用在分组中传输数据,该分组除了实际数据以外还包括地址和控制数据。多个连接可以同时使用相同的传输信道。该分组交换方法适合于其中被传送的数据被突发生成的数据传送。在这种情况下,不必为整个传送期间而仅仅为用于传送该分组的时间分配数据链路。这在启动和使用通信网络116期间相当大地降低了成本和节省了容量。
服务器112,例如,控制在用户设备110和通信网络116之间流动的内容。服务器112也可以促进对用户设备110的服务的内容的定时发送。
服务128给用户设备110提供与用在发送媒体流126到用户的广播信道并行的通信信道。这被称为并行信道操作。逻辑地址可以被专用于服务128以使得服务128可以通过利用服务器112的数据库(DB)130的逻辑地址而被访问。服务的数据库130包括包含服务内容的计算机文件。服务的内容可以作为时间的函数并且可能作为媒体流126的内容的函数而变化。128服务提供比特流给用户设备110,这些比特流包括信息内容,例如图形信息、文本信息、声音的信息、计算机程序、盲文、振动或任何这些内容的组合。在一个实施方案中,服务128的内容显示在用户设备110的显示器上。
当在用户设备110中的并行信道软件操作开始时,用户设备110可以传送有关它本身的信息到服务器112,并且服务器112通知媒体流126的用户设备110。根据与用户设备110有关的信息,会发送内容的一个专用变量,它包含与每个用户设备110的容量和屏幕尺寸相适应的图像对象。
服务提供者是对服务128的相关数字内容具有支配权力的一方,将服务128提供给用户设备的分布式系统,和可能能够为了服务128向用户收费。服务提供者的传送系统用于接收和管理发送请求并且发送服务128到用户设备110。
在用户设备110,系统提供一个综合用户经验,允许该用户开始收听媒体流116和接收关于媒体流116的服务的内容。媒体操作基于两个信道,由蜂窝电信信道使能的广播信道和并行信道。另一方面,媒体系统提供可视的和交互的平行信道功能性,例如,接收和显示内容和将用户的交互报告给服务器112。
在一个实施例中,在媒体流126和服务128之间的关联是基于服务128的特征和媒体流126的特征的。如果在服务128的特征和媒体流126的特征之间有链接的话,服务128和媒体流126被认为相互关联。媒体流126可以和一个或多个服务128关联。服务128可以和一个或多个媒体流126关联。
关联数据是在媒体流126和服务128之间提供链接的一条信息。在显式链接中,关联数据提供媒体流126和服务128的显式特征以使得通过利用该关联数据,可以将想要的媒体流126,例如一个无线电体育节目,和一个服务128,例如关于该节目的体育结果发送给用户设备110。在这种情况下,该关联数据包括,例如,无线电广播使用的频率和提供体育结果的服务128的地址。该特征可以是例如服务标识或无线电信道标识。该特征可以制定服务128或媒体流126的内容,例如体育内容。
在隐式的链接中,该关联数据包括用来提供媒体流126和服务128的显式特征的信息。该隐式的链接要求该显式链接对系统某处的用户设备可用。该显式链接可以根据用户设备110的历史从用户设备110或者从服务提供者获得。例如,该关联数据包括无线电台的标识。在这种情况下,该标识可以输入相关寄存器,它返回服务128的标识和可能被媒体流126使用的频率。该服务标识可以被用于配置用户设备110,并且服务128可以通过使用该配置被访问。关联寄存器可以被定位在用户设备110中或提供服务128的服务器中,或者在系统中的任何地方,只要用户设备110可以访问该关联寄存器即可。
关联数据可以根据,例如服务的多样性而在不同程度上与媒体流和服务关联。
关联数据可以包括下列类型的信息:无线电服务地址、服务标识、对象标识、无线电广播公司标识号、节目标识号、业务量通告标识号、业务量节目标识号、节目项目号、紧急状况告警消息、音乐/语音指示器、用于媒体流的无线电频率、节目服务名称、节目类型标识号、国家代码和位置信息。
在一个实施例中,系统包括连接到服务器112和广播系统118的内容创建工具(CCT)132来为服务128提供内容。该内容创建工具132在一些应用中也可以被称作可视无线电工具,它可以用来创建服务内容呈现(presentation)以在用户设备110上显示。内容创建工具132可以位于和集成到广播系统118中。
内容创建工具132可以允许广播系统来创建一个可视呈现和管理在用户设备110的屏幕上显示的与媒体流126同步的内容流。
内容创建工具132也可以定义时间在用户设备110中相对于广播媒体流的时间安排来显示服务128的内容。
在一个实施方案中,服务器112包括交互引擎(IE)136用于将服务请求从用户设备110转发到提供请求的服务128的服务数据库130。
在一个实施方案中,服务器112包括内容传送引擎(CDE)134用于随内容一起将信号从内容创建工具132发送到在服务器112中的交互引擎136,该引擎将信号通过通信网络116发送到用户设备110。
例示的广播系统118包括定时信息模块(TIM)138、动态内容发送模块(DCDM)140、广播内容发送模块(BCDM)142和用户接口(UI)144。
广播内容发送模块142将媒体流126传送到媒体接收器122,比如无线电接收机或电视接收机。所述传输可以通过使用模拟或数字传输来实现。传输信道可以通过使用频分、时分、码分、或者它们的混合而和其他信道多路复用。
定时模块138给服务器112提供有关媒体流126和从服务器112到用户设备110的数据流的传输之间的时间关系的定时信息。定时模块138例如提供有关由广播系统118广播的特定节目的起始时间和结束时间的信息,以及广告休息定时的信息或者媒体流126中的相关时间结构。
用户设备110可以包含传统元件,包括无线调制解调器、具有软件的处理器、存储器、用户接口和显示器。媒体接收器122和用户终端120的结构为本领域的技术人员所知。
用户设备110可以更进一步包括专用的软件模块来创建由媒体流126和服务128组成的平行信道经验。该软件模块可以通过使用本地的操作系统,例如Symbian,或利用程序设计环境,例如Java MIDP(移动信息设备描述)来实现。
图2示出了包括通信网络200、广播系统204、服务器210和用户设备202的系统的简化结构。用户设备202可以在将包括和关联数据、请求和用户标识有关的信息的任何信息发送到通信网络200的过程中利用返回信道220,比如由GPRS方法提供的信道。在图2中所示的系统的元件的结构和功能与在图1中所代表的那些相当。

在一个实施例中,系统包括同步装置222使服务216和媒体流218同步。例如同步装置222从该广播系统118的定时信息模块124获得起始时间和广告休息信息。另外,同步装置222可以为用户设备110提供该装置用以通过与服务器112一起运行同步算法将它们的时钟与广播系统时间基准同步。同步算法可以基于从用户设备110发送到服务器112的请求的往返延迟的计算和在用户设备时钟和服务器时钟之间的差值的计算。一旦用户设备110执行同步并且媒体流的起始时间已知,媒体流时间安排基准可以被转化为在用户设备110的内部时钟中的基准。服务218的内容可以与广播同步显示给用户。
在一个实施方案中,至少配置装置214的一部分位于用户设备202中。该配置装置214可以是软件包230或寄存器,它利用例如服务218的标识的配置参数配置用户设备202,使用标识用户设备202可以访问例如在服务器210中的特定文件。

在一个实施例中,关联数据源212连接到通信网络200,通信网络200被安排传送至少一部分关联数据218;并且用户终端206被安排接收至少一部分关联数据218。关联数据源212可以被连接到例如中心100,包括关联数据的数据包从关联数据源212被传送到该中心。数据分组由基站108传送并由用户终端206接收。得益于例如高数据速率和标准化的数据传递协议,通信网络200提供了一种灵活的发送关联数据到用户设备的方式。

将至少部分关联数据显示(310)给用户;
由用户从至少一部分关联数据中选择(312)一个项目;和
使用该项目来配置(316)系统。
12.按照前述权利要求中任何一个的方法,其特征在于:
使用广播系统传送(302)至少一部分关联数据;和
使用媒体接收器接收(304)至少一部分关联数据。
13.按照前述权利要求中任何一个的方法,其特征在于:
使用蜂窝电信系统传送(302)至少一部分关联数据。
14.权利要求1-12的方法,其特征在于将至少一部分关联数据编码(502)进媒体流;和
在用户设备中从媒体流中解码(508)出该至少一部分关联数据。
15.按照前述的任何一个权利要求的方法,其特征在于在媒体接收器和用户终端之间交换(308)关联数据。
16.一种为用户设备提供服务的系统,包括:
用于给用户设备(202)提供移动服务的蜂窝电信系统的通信网络(200);
用于给用户设备(202)提供媒体流(216)的广播系统(204);
在用户设备(202)中用来在蜂窝电信系统中通信的用户终端(206);和
在用户设备(208)中用来接收媒体流(216)的媒体接收器(208),
其特征在于该系统更进一步包括:
连接到通信网络(200)的服务器(210),用于通过使用蜂窝电信系统的无线电接口给用户设备(202)提供与媒体流(216)关联的服务(218);
用于给用户设备(202)提供用于将媒体流(216)与服务(218)关联起来的关联数据的关联数据源(212);
该用户设备(202)被配置来接收至少一部分关联数据;以及该系统更进一步包括
可操作地连接到用户设备(202)和服务器(210)的配置装置(214),用来通过使用关联数据而配置系统,以将与媒体流(216)关联的服务(218)提供给用户设备(202)。
17.按照权利要求16的系统,其特征在于:
用户设备(202)被配置用来自动地存储至少一部分关联数据;和
配置装置(214)被安排以通过使用该部分关联数据来配置系统。
18.按照前述权利要求16-17中任何一个的系统,其特征在于服务器(210)被安排来使用关联数据给用户设备(202)提供服务。
19.按照前述权利要求16-18中任何一个的系统,其特征在于媒体接收器(208)被安排来接收与服务(218)相关联的媒体流(216)。
20.按照前述权利要求16-19中任何一个的系统,其特征在于:该系统包括连接到服务器(210)和广播系统(204)的同步器(122),用来使服务(218)和媒体流(216)同步;和
关联数据源(212)被安排提供用于将媒体流(216)与同步于媒体流(216)的服务(218)关联起来的关联数据。

服务器(218)被安排返回配置参数;和
配置装置(214)被安排来用配置参数配置用户设备(202)。
24.按照权利要求23的系统,其特征在于服务器(218)被安排返回包括至少下列一个的配置参数:
-服务标识
-无线电服务地址
-无线电广播公司标识号
-节目标识号
-业务量通告标识号
-业务量节目标识号
-节目项目号

-由媒体流使用的无线电频率

广播系统(204)被安排来传送至少一部分关联数据;和
媒体接收器(208)被安排来接收该至少一部分关联数据。

通信网络(200)被安排来传送至少一部分关联数据;和
用户终端(206)被安排来接收该至少一部分关联数据。
