技术领域
本发明主要涉及设备网络,尤其公开了一种在专门的无线网络中保持全局时间基准的方法。
背景技术
无线网络作为在移动的设备、位于家里或其它位置的设备之间传送数据的解决方案,正变得日益重要,从而最好是不用连线就可以连接设备。目前已经提出了大量物理层和MAC层的解决方案。例如,由Aiello等人在美国专利申请第09/393,126号″BasebandWireless Network for Isochronous Communication”中描述了一种基带超宽带无线网络,其在此被引用作为参考。超宽带网络发送一个覆盖频谱绝大部分的信号,但在任一独立频带中以非常低的功率发送。
无线网络有时是指专用的网络,因为该网络包括正好处于网络中其他设备广播邻近区域中的设备。当设备加电或者设备移出范围时,该设备可以加入或者离开网络。在由欧洲电信标准协会出版的HIPERLAN类型1功能说明书ETS300 652中描述了一种特殊的专用网络。其在www.etsi.org中可以获得。

发明内容
因此,本发明公开了一种用于在加入无线网络的一组无线设备之间保持全局时间基准的系统和方法。应当注意,此处描述的技术也可以应用于其他网络,包括某些部分或者全部利用接线、光缆或其他装置发送信号的网络。为了举例,本说明书将详细描述无线网络和尤其是利用HIPERLAN标准的无线专用网络。应当理解,本发明不限于这种网络并且所述技术可应用于许多不同类型的网络。
在一个实施方式中,网络中的每台设备都保持着其自身的时钟。当每台设备向网络中的其他设备发送分组时,其发送自身的时钟信号或者其自身时钟信号的一部分,而并不将一个特定设备的时钟指定为主时钟。接收分组的设备读取该时钟信号,并将其自身的时钟调整为所发送的值。这种时钟调整以令时钟平稳地接近共同值而不会在不稳定的状态下产生振荡的方式进行。
应当理解,本发明可以以多种方式实现,包括实现为流程、装置、系统、设备、方法或者计算机可读介质如计算机可读存储介质或者其中程序指令通过光或者电通信链路发送的计算机网络。下面描述本发明的几个创造性的实施方式。
在一个实施方式中,在加入网络的具有本地时钟的多台网络设备之间保持同步。将来自第一网络设备的第一分组向加入网络的其他网络设备进行广播。第一分组包括从第一网络设备的本地时钟中获得的全局时间基准。将接收第一分组的网络设备的时钟调整得更接近于第一网络设备的本地时钟。

图2是详细示出信道可能将延迟和抖动引入到从发射机发送到接收机的分组的定时中的图。发射机200以等时方式发送分组。即,每个分组以固定的时间间隔开始发送。t1、t2、t3和t4之间的时间差恒定。信道202将延迟和抖动引入传输中,使得时间延迟Δ1、Δ2、Δ3和Δ4被加入由接收机204收到每个分组的时间中。这样,以均匀间隔发送的分组当被收到时其间隔是不均匀的。
只要仅有一台发射机和一台接收机,如果在每个分组的开始包含时间标记,就可以在接收机端校正分组间定时。每个时间标记之间的差将指示分组的正确的相对时间间隔,该正确的相对时间间隔可以令接收机将分组在时间上进行复位或者甚至可能进行重新排序。
当有多于两台设备时,则简单地为分组加入时间标记将无法在设备之间对数据显示进行同步。还应当注意,即使当仅有两台设备时,时间标记也能够调整分组之间的相对间隔,但是其无助于确信在接收机端在一个与发射机端发生的事件相对的特定时间发生事件。返回参考图1中所示例子,即使对从放像机102发送至左右扬声器106a和106b的分组已作时间标记,也仍然可能存在左右立体声声道之间的时间偏移。分组上的时间标记仅用于使每个信道能够对其收到的分组准确地进行时间上的定位。
为了对通过无线网络以分组接收的信息进行视频或音频显示进行同步,或者对从分组接收的信息的使用进行协调,而在与每台其他网络设备的时钟保持同步的网络设备上保持一个时钟。
在一个实施方式中,针对需要精确至仅为大约百万分之五的每台网络设备指定一个时钟。为了在网络的所有设备时钟之间保持可接受的同步关系,每当其中的一台设备发送分组时,该设备都在分组报头中准确定义的点包含其时钟值或者如下所述的其部分时钟值。当其他设备接收到那个分组时,它们将其各自的时钟向时间标记指示的时间调整。如下所述,在一个实施方式中,通过计算时钟偏移实现该时间调整,并通过取设备时钟和时间标记之间的差的一半计算该时钟偏移。

应当注意,理想的是,发射机的本地时间基准将与加入网络中的每台设备保持的本地时间基准一致。如果是这种情况,则每台设备的本地时间基准实际上就是全局时间基准,因为其与系统中每个其他本地时间基准一致。为了解释的目的,发射机记录并后来插入分组的本地时间基准将被称为全局时间基准。这是因为发射机主张其为全局时间基准,并且此时所有的接收设备将它们自身的本地时间基准向全局时间基准调整。还应当注意,每台设备都认为其自身的本地时间基准将是全局时间基准,并且主张其自身的本地时间基准是其发送分组的全局时间基准。这样,当每台发送设备在向其他设备广播的分组中包含其本地时间基准时,每台发送设备都主张其本地时间基准是全局时间基准。经过一段时间,当发送了足够的分组时,所有的本地时间基准都向相同的全局时间收敛,并且广播全局时间基准如果有变化的话,也仅导致由接收设备引起的很小的变化。
全局时间基准306在帧同步序列304之后插入分组中。在所示的实施方式中,是在帧同步序列之后立即插入全局时间基准,但是这并不是必须的。当检测到帧同步序列并主张帧同步序列信号时,接收机在此时记录其本地时间基准。可以立即读取分组中的全局时间基准或者可以很久以后再读取,只要该时间基准可以与主张帧同步序列信号的时间相比。这样,全局时间基准306可以出现在紧跟着帧同步序列304的分组中或者出现在分组中后面的点处。然后发送分组的其余部分308。分组的其余部分可能包括分组报头的更多信息以及最后包括数据的分组有效载荷。
应当注意,在一个实施方式中,在分组中没有包括整个全局时间基准。而是仅包括了全局时间基准的被称为最低有效部分的最低有效位。只要时钟之间的差小于由全局时间基准的最低有效部分计算出的时间量,则仅包括全局时间基准的最低有效部分就已经足够。如果在进行调整前时钟之间的漂移量不足以令时钟失去同步超过可以由最低有效部分表示的最大时间量,该条件就得到满足。在一个实施方式中,使用32位全局时间基准,而随每一分组发送的最低有效部分是32位全局时间基准中的最低12位。
在上述实施方式中,使用的时钟的相对时钟漂移约为百万分之五(ppm),而时钟频率为1MHz。全局时间基准的最低有效部分共计212微秒。因此,在累计达到212微秒误差之前,需要更新时钟。对于精确度为5ppm的1MHz时钟,更新之间的最大时间间隔大约为5分钟,这取决于使用的更新方法。当然,不同系统中的最大时间间隔因时钟的速度和精确度以及随时钟的最低有效部分发送的位数而变化。如果最低有效部分提供的全局时间基准越多,则更新的频率就越低。例如,如果使用14位,则全局时间基准的最低有效部分可以精确表示达214微秒的累积漂移。假设相对时钟漂移不变,则所需的更新频率仅为通常的四分之一。
在由加入网络的设备之一发送的每个分组中包含全局时间基准的所述方案的一个优点是,随着网络流量增加,将对本地时间基准进行更频繁的更新。这减少了本地时间基准之间的变化。
图4A是示例性示出如何将全局时间基准分解为最高有效部分和最低有效部分的图。如上所述,在一个实施方式中,最高有效部分是20位而最低有效部分是12位。最低有效部分的大小可以增加,以便以需要更多用于传输的系统开销为代价,降低所需的更新频率。应当注意,除了在由每台设备发送的分组中包括最低有效部分,MAC层协议还周期性地提示一台或者多台设备广播整个全局时间基准,即最高有效部分和最低有效部分。在一个实施方式中,每20秒广播一次该全局时间基准。周期性对整个全局时间基准进行广播的原因在于,允许校正产生于其中一台设备的误差,这些设备改变全局时间基准,使之超过由全局时间基准的最低有效部分表示的最大时间。
在不同的实施方式中,广播整个全局时间基准的任务可由加入网络中的一台或者所有设备完成。例如,可以指示每台设备周期性地广播全局时间基准。这种周期性的广播可以是交错的。另外,MAC层协议可以指示一台指定的设备以一定的时间间隔广播整个全局时间基准。
图4B是示例性示出存储自激时钟的存储寄存器的图。自激时钟是32位时钟。如前所述,在一个实施方式中,时钟是1兆赫兹时钟。在其他的实施方式中,可以根据需要设置时钟频率。优选地,自激时钟只能被读取。即,无法将对全局时间基准的调整写入该时钟。更合适地,定义自激时钟偏移,使得全局时间基准等于自激时钟加上自激时钟偏移之和。

在不同的实施方式中使用多种调整方案,其根据全局时间基准和本地时间基准之差对自激时钟偏移进行非线性调整。在一个实施方式中,自激时钟偏移的变化等于一个缩放因子乘以全局时间基准和本地时间基准之差的平方。对该两个基准之差进行平方具有当全局时间基准和本地时间基准之差很大时,令自激时钟偏移的变化更大的优点。如果使用差的平方,则计算全局时间基准和本地时间基准之差的符号,并将其应用于该差,使得在适当的方向对自激时钟偏移作出调整。

如上所述,设备可以使用HIPERLAN ID以确定分组是否属于其网络,并因此确定是否将其本地时间基准调整为分组中指定的全局时间基准。可以通过连接网络的设备使用保留的网络管理ID。可以将网络设备配置为忽略HIPERLAN查找请求中包含的时间基准。
可以实现各种方法以避免稳定的网络全局时间基准受到新设备的干扰。在一个实施方式中,引入新设备以提供全是0的全局时间基准,0是一个被所有网络设备忽略的特殊值。新设备也可以优选地被配置为将其本地时间基准初始设置为与收到的全局时间基准相等,而不是如上所述调整其本地基准。然而,对新设备的约定规范并不能避免不遵守规范的恶意设备或者属于其他网络的设备的危害。出于那种原因,也可以实现其他过程如检查HIPERLAN ID或者拒绝某些大的变化。

虽然为了理解清楚对前述发明进行了详细描述,但是很明显,可以在所附权利要求书的范围内进行某些改变和变更。应当注意,可以有许多其他方式实现本发明的方法和装置。因此,这些实施方式只是示意性的而不是限制性的,并且本发明不限于此处所给出的细节,而可以在所附权利要求书的范围内和等价情况下进行修改。
Claims (17)
1.一种保持参加网络的并具有本地时钟的多台网络设备之间同步的方法,包括如下步骤:
从第一网络设备向参加网络中的其他网络设备广播第一分组,其中第一分组包括从第一网络设备的本地时钟导出的全局时间基准;以及
将收到第一分组的网络设备的时钟调整得更接近于第一网络设备的本地时钟。
2.根据权利要求1所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,还包括:
从第二网络设备向参加网络的其他网络设备广播第二分组,其中第二分组包括从第二网络设备的本地时钟导出的全局时间基准;以及
将收到第二分组的其他网络设备的时钟调整得更接近于第二网络设备的本地时钟。
3.根据权利要求1所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,其中全局时间基准包括第一网络设备本地时钟的最低有效部分而不包括第一网络设备本地时钟的最高有效部分。
4.根据权利要求3所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,其中对其中一个网络设备本地时钟的最高有效部分进行周期性地广播,并且令所有本地时钟的最高有效部分统一于所广播的最高有效部分。
5.根据权利要求1所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,其中将收到第一分组的网络设备的时钟调整得更接近于第一网络设备本地时钟的步骤包括根据被调整时钟的未经调整的值和所广播的全局时间基准之差的线性函数,调整网络设备的时钟。
6.根据权利要求1所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,其中将收到第一分组的网络设备的时钟调整得更接近于第一网络设备的本地时钟的步骤包括以广播的全局时间基准和正被调整时钟的未经调整的值之差的大约一半的量,调整网络设备的时钟。
7.根据权利要求1所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,其中将收到第一分组的网络设备的时钟调整得更接近于第一网络设备的本地时钟的步骤包括根据正被调整时钟的未经调整的值和广播的全局时间基准之差的非线性函数,调整网络设备的时钟。
8.根据权利要求7所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,其中当正被调整时钟的未经调整的值和广播的全局时间基准之差大于最大可调整差时,正被调整时钟的未经调整的值和广播的全局时间基准之差的非线性函数实质上不对正被调整时钟进行调整。
9.根据权利要求1所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,其中在传送分组的帧同步部分之后立即从第一网络设备的本地时钟导出全局时间基准。
10.根据权利要求1所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,其中将收到第一分组的网络设备的时钟调整得更接近于第一网络设备的本地时钟的步骤包括将检测到帧同步时接收网络设备的本地时钟与所发送的全局时间基准相比较。
11.根据权利要求1所述的保持多台网络设备之间同步的方法,其中由参加网络的任意网络设备广播的所有数据分组包括从广播网络设备本地时钟导出的全局时间基准,这使得发送的数据越多,接收网络设备的本地时钟更新得越频繁。
12.一种为参加第一网络和第二网络的设备保持第一网络本地时间基准和第二网络本地时间基准的方法,包括如下步骤:
在该设备中保持一个自激时钟;
确定自激时钟与第一网络全局时间基准之差;
计算第一网络偏移以说明自激时钟和第一网络全局时间基准之差;
确定自激时钟和第二网络全局时间基准之差;以及
计算第二网络偏移以说明自激时钟和第二网络全局时间基准之差。
13.一种被配置为与发送网络设备保持同步的接收网络设备,包括:
一个接收网络设备本地时钟;
一个被配置为从发送网络设备接收第一分组的接口,其中第一分组包括从发送网络设备本地时钟导出的全局时间基准;以及
一个被配置为将接收网络设备本地时钟调整得更接近于发送网络设备本地时钟的处理器。
14.根据权利要求13所述的被配置为与发送网络设备保持同步的接收网络设备,其中接收网络设备本地时钟包括一个自激时钟和一个自激时钟偏移。
15.一种被配置为与接收网络设备保持同步的发送网络设备,包括:
一个发送网络设备本地时钟;
一个被配置为发送第一分组的接口,其中第一分组包括从发送网络设备本地时钟导出的全局时间基准,并且其中接收网络设备利用该全局时间基准将接收网络设备本地时钟调整得更接近于发送网络设备本地时钟。
16.一种设备网络,包括
被配置为发送第一分组的发送网络设备,其中第一分组包括从一个发送网络设备本地时钟导出的全局时间基准;以及
被配置为从发送网络设备接收第一分组并将接收网络设备本地时钟调整得更接近于该全局时间基准的接收网络设备。
17.一种网络设备,包括:
一个自激时钟;
一个处理器,该处理器被配置为:
确定自激时钟与第一网络全局时间基准之差;
计算第一网络偏移以说明自激时钟和第一网络全局时间基准之差;
确定自激时钟和第二网络全局时间基准之差;以及
计算第二网络偏移以说明自激时钟和第二网络全局时间基准之差。
