技术领域

背景技术
为了满足顾客的便携式计算、移动通讯和便携式娱乐的需要,已经开发了各种各样的便携式装置。每一种应用的严格不同的需要使得它们的成本太高且对于这种装置无法广泛地实现一个类型以上或两个密切相关类型的需要。

发明概要
因此,本发明的一个目的是提供一种便携式基于处理器的用于移动计算、通讯和娱乐的装置,其不必获得和保持多个单元。这种装置与常用的膝上计算机同样的方式工作。然而,在本发明中中央处理器、通讯电路、扬声器、麦克风和电源载装于一个可拆卸的手持机中。该可拆卸的手持机单元起一个无线电话单元的作用。通过具有其自己的显示器和键盘该可拆卸的手持机单元也可用作因特网设备,用于电子邮件进入和从因特网下载信息,诸如电子图书、声频图书。数字音乐等等。

可拆卸的手持机单元具有附加的功能。它可以用作一个以两种方式中之一的便携式数字声频播放器。首先,通过将耳机插入其插孔,使用者可以收听下载的音乐或声频图书。其次,通过对接到包含有较大扬声器的对接显示器单元,使下载的音乐或其它内容可以如一标准的PC或一膝上计算机完全一样的方式回放。可拆卸的手持机可以装备指定运营商软件,由此,由其自身起一电子钟表的作用或同时与对接显示器单元对接。
可拆卸的手持机可以装备红外收发器,用于为无线光通讯提供其它兼容单元,诸如与IrDA标准兼容的单元。利用适合的软件将可拆卸的手持机单元制成对TV、VCR和其它家用娱乐系统以及家用电器起一远距离控制单元的作用、使用者可以一次预先输入所需的编程表,且随后可拆卸的手持机就可自动选择频道。
该对接显示器可以安装在一车辆上,进一步扩展移动计算和通讯的功能。可拆卸的手持机可以配备一种环球卫星定位系统(GPS)能力。在此情况下,除了在目前情况下,该可拆卸的手持机单元可用于多种应用之外,当可拆卸的手持机单元在对接显示器中对接时,该组合的单元用作一个自动PC,在地图上在大的显示器上给车辆驾驶员指出与来自Microsoft的AutoPC参照设计相同的方式的该车辆的位置。

总体上,按照本发明的一便携式计算、通讯和娱乐装置包括一个可拆卸的手持机单元和一个对接显示器单元。该可拆卸的手持机单元的大小确定为用于手持抓握,且包括一处理器和多个第一电路,该处理器控制该第一电路的运行。该便携式对接显示器单元的尺寸确定为接受该可拆卸的手持机单元的对接,且包括第一显示器和多个第二电路。该处理器在该可拆卸的手持机单元和该对接显示器单元对接时控制所述第二电路和第一显示器中的至少一个的运行。

实施本发明的优选实施例
根据本发明用于移动计算、通讯和娱乐的一示例性的装置的实施例示出于图1至4中,且大体上用标记10表示。该装置10包括一可拆卸的手持机单元20和一对接显示器单元30。
该可拆卸的手持机单元20包括一带有前后面和两相对的端部的壳体48、一显示器18和一在前面的键盘19。如在常用的电话手持机中那样,该可拆卸的手持机单元20通过其后面上的通孔载装有设置在相对端部的一麦克风26和扬声器27。如同在通常的蜂窝电话手持机中看到的,在该可拆卸的手持机单元20的顶端设置有一短杆天线22。狭槽24和25设置在该单元20的相对的端部,以可拆卸地将该可拆卸的手持机单元20和对接显示器单元30配接,如下面更详细地描述。在该可拆卸的手持机单元20中的一电连接器23能够与该对接显示器单元30电连接。

在上述实施例的另一种变型中,连接载装于可拆卸的手持机单元20和对接显示器单元30中的电路系统的接口信号可以使用通常的多路传输电路进行多路传输,以便减少内联信号的数目,并由此减小连接器23和36的尺寸。
在上述实施例的又一种变型中,可拆卸的手持机单元20可以像通常的无绳手持机一样完全不包含显示器。在此情况下,中央处理器11仍然将驱动辅助显示器31通过视频接口15,而视频接口15可以装入对接显示器单元30中,进一步降低可拆卸的手持机单元20的尺寸。
图5示出安装在一车辆70的地板上的对接显示器单元30。一支架60的底端连接到车辆地板70上。夹持件61连接于支架60的顶端。对接显示器单元30通过滑入夹持件61可拆除地安装在该支架60上。另一种方案,对接显示器单元30可以利用螺栓或其它常用的方法固定安装在该支架60上。然后,可拆卸的手持机单元20可在对接显示器单元30上以与前述其它应用中同样的方式对接于该对接显示器单元30中。
熟悉本领域技术的技术人员现在应当理解,以此方式,可以产生具有可拆卸的手持机单元的一便携式计算、通讯和娱乐装置。当可拆卸的手持机单元与对接显示器单元配接时,其可成为用于整个便携式计算、通讯和娱乐装置的控制器。可拆卸的手持机单元放在一较小的壳体中,该壳体的尺寸确定为用于手持抓握,且大小确定为像一个普通的蜂窝电话一样载装于一个口袋中。对接显示器单元载装一辅助的较大的显示器和其它部件。载装于可拆卸的手持机单元中的中央处理器必须有足够的处理能力,足以实现整个便携式计算、通讯和娱乐装置的功能。而不只是实现一无线电话的功能。可在市场上购到满足于该目的的处理器的例子包括Intel StrongARM处理器、购自HitachiAmerican,Ltd,of Brisbane California的SH-3和SH-4型处理器和购自NEC American,Inc.of Irving,California的4100 RISC型处理器。
如未来的技术进步,在大部分的膝上计算机中使用的来自Intel的Pentium处理器可以用于本发明的其它实施例中。在装置10中使用的其它部件可以类似于由传统的计算装置、通讯装置和娱乐装置采用的部件。这些其它部件中典型的是,购自Optrex America Inc.of Detroit,Michigan和Seiko Instruments USA,Incorporated of Torrance,California的大小尺寸的液晶显示器,购自Micron Technologies,Inc.of Boise,Idaho的记忆芯片,购自Philips North America in Atlanta的VLSI技术无线通讯芯片,购自Analog Devices Inc.of Norwood,Massachusetts的电源和购自MicroTouch Systems,Inc.of Methuen,Massachusetts的笔输入板。

Claims (16)

1.一种便携式计算、通讯和娱乐装置,其包括:
一可拆卸的手持机单元,其尺寸确定为用于手持抓握,并包含一处理器和多个第一电路,所述处理器控制所述第一电路的运行;
一便携式对接显示器单元,其尺寸确定为接受所述可拆卸的手持机单元的对接,并包含一第一显示器和多个第二电路;和
所述处理器在所述可拆卸的手持机单元与所述对接显示器单元对接时控制所述第二电路和所述第一显示器中的至少一个的运行。
2.根据权利要求1所述的装置,其特征在于,所述处理器产生控制信号,且所述便携式对接显示器单元包含一平台,其尺寸确定为接受便携式对接显示器单元和第一电连接器的对接,用于接受所述控制信号。
