背景信息
常规的室内TV天线系统一般包括两个分别用于VHF和UHF接收的单独天线.用于接收VHF波段的天线使用一对形成对称振子天线的伸缩单元,每个单元具有从4到6英尺(1.5到2.5米)的最大长度.两个单元通常安装得允许单元舒展开或缩短对称振子长度,这些单元通常称为“兔耳”。室内UHF天线一般是具有大约71/2英寸(20cm)直径的环。
与常规室内天线系统相关的一个问题是VHF对称振子的物理尺寸对于安放在普通客厅中太长,而且对称振子单元的长度和方向需要根据接收信道调节。第二个问题是这种常规室内VHF/UHF天线的性能随天线单元附近物理环境的改变而改变。例如,由于与天线接触的人体改变了与天线单元有关的电磁环境,使用户很难适当地调节天线。第三个问题是常规室内天线系统不总能为良好接收提供足够的信号电平。
需要一种包括紧凑尺寸的天线系统,其能够在整个VHF/UHF广播波段频率上接收足够的信号电平不用任何物理调节。另外,需要能够用于室内或室外应用的这种天线系统。
概述
按照本发明,用于接收VHF/UHF广播信号的天线系统包括一个平面天线和一个调谐器单元,该调谐器单元包括一个调谐装置。如果需要可以在调谐器单元内包含一个增益可控放大器。该平面天线包括在形状上基本上相同的一对天线单元。这些单元位于电介质板的各个表面上。调谐装置包括多个匹配网络,用于各个多个广播频率波段。

图1说明了应用本发明方式的VHF/UHF平面天线系统.该平面天线系统包括平面天线10和调谐单元30。平面天线10和调谐单元30由同轴电缆20耦合。对于该示范性实施例,同轴电缆20的特性阻抗为75欧姆。
调谐器单元30包括调谐装置31和增益可控放大器33。增益可控放大器33是可选项并在电视广播信号足够强的地方可以不包括在调谐器单元30内。调谐装置31包括多个阻抗匹配网络610(例如,带通滤波器)用于各个多个广播频率波段(细节见图8)。普通红外(IR)遥控器40用于同时选择调谐单元30内的匹配网络和用于电视设备50的信道两者。当然,单独的IR遥控器可以用于单独地选择适合的匹配网络。放大器33的增益由内置自动增益控制(AGC)装置自动地控制(见图8-10的示意图)。
图2表示平面天线系统室内使用的一个应用。在此平面天线10位于电介质材料制造的平面天线外壳11内。天线外壳11包括平面天线10悬挂在墙上,而调谐器单元30安放在电视设备50顶上。同轴电缆20用于在平面天线10与调谐器单元30之间耦合。天线外壳11可以设计得防水用于室外使用。
图3表示平面天线系统使用的另一个应用。在此调谐器单元30位于放置在电视设备50顶上的天线外壳11的下面。
图4和5分别表示平面天线10的俯视图和底视图100、200。该平面天线10的天线单元在许多方面与传统对称振子(兔耳)或环状天线不同。尤其是,根据微带技术开发的单元,和单元的统一方向图促使平面天线系统提供电视信号的全方位接收成为可能,这可以从图7所示的该天线方向图特性看出。这样,一旦安装就不需要对天线的方向进行调整。在水平平面内的全方位特征认为是由RF电流大多数沿平面天线单元的每个边缘流过所产生的。
如同图4和5表示的示范性实施例,天线单元被直接蚀刻在印刷电路板上(PCB),例如由Glasteel Industrial Laminates制造的“MC3D”型中频叠层板(0.062英寸厚度,双面PCB板具有介电常数3.53+/-0.08)。PCB的尺寸近似12乘12英寸(30×30cm)。在PCB的每侧形成VHF和UHF天线单元,在一侧上的VHF和UHF单元对应PCB另一侧上的VHF和UHF单元在形状上基本上是相同的。另外,前者相对于后者转动90度。
VHF天线单元是以统一“H”型配置为特征。“H”型的每端上的天线单元近似2.5英寸(6.5cm)宽×12英寸(30cm)长。“H”型的两端通过近似1英寸(2.5cm)宽乘7英寸(17.5cm)长的微带传输线连接起来形成“H”型。如上所述,PCB对应侧面上的两个“H”型VHF单元在形状上基本上相同,在顶侧面上的VHF单元由PCB底侧面上的转动90度。
用于VHF信号“H”型单元的每个由下列三个分开区域的组合形成(在括号中表示底侧面上各个对应区域的参考号码):(1)“S”型主要区域120(220);(2)第一附加区域150(250);和(3)第二附加区域160(260)。第一附加区域150(250)近似2.5英寸(6.5cm)宽乘5.4英寸(13.7cm)长并由近似十分之一英寸(2.5mm)的间隔与主要区域120(220)分开。第一附加区域150(250)通过电感151(251)例如100μH高Q值的表面安装芯片电感电耦合到主要区域120(220)。已经发现该配置扩展了主要区域120(220)的有效电长度。
第二附加区域160(260)在尺寸上基本上与第一附加区域150(250)相同。第二附加区域160(260)通过电容161(261)例如15pF表面安装芯片电容耦合到主要区域120(220)。已经发现通过电容161(261)耦合的第二附加区域160(260)明显改善了对于低VHF电视频率波段(50-88MHz)上平面天线的总电压驻波比(VSWR)特性。
仅在PCB顶侧面上有一个反射器区域140。反射器区域140对于第一附加区域150起反射器的作用。已经发现反射器区域140改善了较高VHF电视频率波段(174-216MHz)上平面天线总的性能。
UHF天线单元170、270也是以“H”型设计为特征并形成在PCB的各个侧面上。如上所述,这两个UHF单元在形状上也基本上相同,并且一个由另一个转动90度。
“H”型单元的每个在形状上是正方形和近似2.5英寸(6.5cm)宽乘2.5英寸(6.5cm)长。两端用近似1英寸(2.5cm)宽乘1.5英寸(3.8cm)长的微带传输线连接起来,形成“H”型设计。UHF单元170(270)通过电感171(271)例如100μH高Q值表面安装芯片电感耦合到VHF单元120(220)的微带传输线近似中点上。
PCB顶侧面也包括一个接地板区域130。接地板区域130在形状上是正方形并近似2.5乘2.5英寸(6.5×6.5cm)。插孔“F”接头131位于接地板区域130上。接头131的引线(地线)通过穿孔穿过PCB连接接地板区域130和连接到PCB底侧面上的另一个接地板区域230两者。接地板区域230的尺寸近似2.5英寸(6.5cm)宽乘6.5英寸(16.5cm)长。接头131的信号线连接到在PCB顶侧面上形成的信号传输线132。已经发现两个接地板区域130、230对稳定平面天线系统总的性能有用,尽管改变了平面天线周围的物理条件。
如图4所示,4:1平衡非平衡转换器133位于PCB顶侧面上,用于平面天线单元与同轴电缆20之间的阻抗匹配。转换器133的第一线圈端部耦合到相应的连接点136和连接区域134上。连接点136位于近似VHF单元120的传输线中间处。连接区域134在底侧面通过两个穿孔连接到VHF单元220的连接点234上。第二线圈的端部耦合到各自传输线132和接地板130上。匹配电容135(4pF)耦合在第二线圈中心与接地板130之间用于更好地阻抗匹配。另一个方式,可变电容(2-6pF)可以耦合在第二线圈两个端部之间,如图8所示。
平面天线的另一个特性是不同与常规微带天线,在PCB的底侧面上没有平面的接地板区域,这种接地板在PCB顶侧面上所形成的天线单元下完全覆盖该区域。如同常规微带天线,这种天线的带宽与一个表面上的天线单元与所用基片另一面上平面接地板区域之间的距离成正比(即,基片的厚度)。已经发现消去这种类型的平面接地板区域对平面天线的宽带特性有用。作为参考,见Munson,Robert E.在“天线工程手册(第三版)”(McGraw Hill,1993)中的“微带天线”。
图8表示了调谐器单元30一部分的示意图,该单元包括多个匹配网络。对于该特定示范性实施例,利用五个带通滤波器610(BPF)作为匹配网络,和它们被预调谐到广播频率的五个不同波段的各自波段上。它们是下列的:
VHF1:54-72MHz(在美国的频道2到4)
VHF2:76-88MHz(在美国的频道5到6)
VHF3:174-192MHz(在美国的频道7到9)
VHF4:192-216MHz(在美国的频道10到13)
UHF :470-800MHz(在美国的UFH频道)
如图8-10所示,波段选择按照接收频道进行。用户通过使用IR遥控器选择适合的波段。可是,该选择可以响应用于可控增益放大器33a的自动增益控制(AGC)电平而自动地进行。当对于接收信道选择了合适的匹配网络时,AGC信号起作用减少放大器33a的增益。
依靠AGC装置,调谐单元30的输出信号电平保持在所需要预定电平上,而不管整个频率波段上所接收电视信号强度的改变。
在图8和9所示的示范性实施例中,AGC装置包括增益可控放大器33a;信号放大器级720;信号分路器710;DC整流器730;和DC偏置电压补偿电路750。已经发现多个可选择前端带通滤波器610和随后的AGC装置合并使AGC在整个VHF/UHF频率电视波段(50-800MHz)上正常工作。
为更快调节放大器33a,可以利用与存储器一起的微处理器控制放大器33a的增益,该存储器存储关于为各个广播信道所需要的AGC电平的信息。
另外,调谐单元30可以进一步包括RF信号选择开关,该开关允许用户在来自平面天线的RF信号与来自其它信号源的信号(例如,碟型卫星天线(8atellite dish),电缆,VCR等)之间选择。
在图10中,红外遥控传感器装置800包括IR信号接收器830,微处理器810,多路复用器850,五个发光二极管(LED)和两个手动控制开关R,L。
LED1,LED2,LED3,LED4和LED5表示广播频率五个不同波段的各个波段的选择,即图8中的VHF-1,VHF-2,VHF-3,VHF-4和UHF。也就是,五个LED表示五个不同BPF610的各个的选择。例如,当为VHF-1选择BPF时LED1接通。手动开关R,L起“上-下”开关的作用用于波段选择,以便没有遥控器的用户仍可以选择适合的频率波段。
