2.说明
各种新形式的消费电子产品正在不断地开发和推向市场。许多开发项目集中在计算机技术与以电视机为中心的家庭娱乐系统的结合上。具体地,广播电视记录和重放设备是基于个人计算机(PC)工业部件开发的。这些设备被使用来接收和记录广播电视信号。接收信号以数字形式被存储在传统的硬盘而不是模拟录像带上。在数据被接收和被存储在设备的同时,数据在显示器上(诸如电视机或计算机监视器)呈现给用户。这些设备已由一些公司,诸如Replay Network公司(Mountain View,California)和TiVo公司(Sunnyvale,California)提供上市销售。

通过当前的技术,检索的网上内容与广播的图象一起被显示在一个分开的设备上(使用一个分开的计算机监视器或Web浏览器装置)或电视屏幕上(使用“画中画”或某些其它开窗口技术)。这些传统的替换方式的一个缺点是,它们迫使用户分离他或她在TV与网上浏览器之间的注意力,或者在他或她正在检查网上内容时完全丢失正在进行的TV节目。在分开的浏览器设备的情形下,用户必须购买这样的设备(招致除了电视以外的一个分开的显示器的高费用)以及容忍在同一个房间中两个显示设备的杂波和扰乱。在使用TV显示器的情形下,当用户也正在注视网上内容的同时,他或她不能继续观看完整的TV节目。这些缺点可能阻止这种技术的广泛的采用,因此克服这些和其它问题的方法是有益的。
发明概要
本发明的实施例是一种协调输入的信号流在显示器上的显示与网上浏览的方法。该方法包括:存储与正在显示的输入的信号流有关的统一资源定位符(URL);接收第一信号以便显示与URL有关的网上内容;暂停显示输入的信号流并且同时把输入的信号流存储在贮存装置中;以及获取并显示与URL有关的网上内容。

详细说明
本发明的实施例包括用于综合广播电视和网上内容的直观的用户接口。
在技术说明中提及本发明的“一个实施例”是指:结合该实施例描述的具体的特性、结构或特征被包括在本发明的至少一个实施例中。因此,在技术说明中各个不同的地方出现的词组“在一个实施例中”并不一定都指同一个实施例。
根据当前广播TV/网上浏览方法的局限性,本发明的实施例把广播TV暂停特性与URL的同时广播相组合。在一个实施例中,机顶装置可以综合通用计算机系统的功能与广播TV暂停/重放设备和有线电视机顶盒的功能。图1显示按照本发明的一个实施例的、用于综合广播电视暂停和网上浏览的系统。机顶装置10可被耦合到诸如互联网12的网络,以及也耦合到广播电视信号源14。网上内容可以由网上服务器16从互联网接收,正如技术上熟知的。在一个实施例中,网上内容包括相对“静止”的、包含文本和图象的网页。在另一个实施例中,网上内容包括被实时地传递到机顶装置的“流动的”音频和视频。TV内容可以通过几种熟知的方式之一(诸如广播天线、卫星、电缆等等)从广播TV信号源接收。TV内容可以是模拟或数字形式。
机顶装置包括处理器18,它执行编程的指令,以便操作机顶装置来接收、存储、暂停、和呈现网上内容和TV内容。编程的指令也可以包括网上浏览器程序。机顶装置也包括贮存装置20,用来存储数字形式的广播TV内容和网上内容。如果广播TV内容是以数字形式接收的,则它可以直接被存储在贮存装置中。如果广播TV内容是以模拟形式接收的,则它可被转换成数字形式,并被加以压缩和存储在贮存装置中,以供将来或同时呈现在显示器22上。显示器22被使用来呈现网上内容和广播TV内容。
遥控器24被包括在系统中,用来通过熟知的无线技术(诸如红外(IR))将用户的选择传送到机顶装置。在本发明的一个实施例中,遥控器包括各种专门的用户输入按钮,诸如向前26、向后28、保存29、互联网30和电视32,这将在下面更详细地讨论。

在方块40,机顶装置存储与输入的信号流有关的最近的URL。用户在这时可以观看广播电视信号流或在显示器上流动的音频和视频网上内容。当用户想要接入由最近的URL引用的网上内容时,在一个实施例中,用户按压遥控器上的向前按钮26。在方块42,机顶装置从遥控器接收向前信号。这使得机顶装置在方块44暂停显示当前正在接收的信号流,而同时继续把输入的信号流保存在贮存装置中。机顶装置然后在方块46从适当的网上服务器得到用于最近存储的URL的网上内容。在网页装载时间期间,显示器显示被构建的局部网页,或者继续显示在暂停时的输入信号流(电视广播的或互联网的流动的音频和视频)的“冻结的帧”。
一旦网上内容是可提供的,则在方块48,整个显示屏幕可被使用来呈现网上内容。网上内容然后可以通过使用向前按钮26进到其它链路而被导航。向后按钮28可被使用来退回到网页历史表中的先前的网页。向前和向后按钮被用于双重目的。它们控制内容从TV或流动的互联网广播切换到“静止”的网上内容,以及它们也输入到网页历史表。当当前的网页是历史表中的第一页以及向后按钮被用户按压时,在一个实施例中,网上内容可以从显示器中去除掉,以及暂停的TV或流动的互联网广播可以继续进行。因此,在方块50,向后的信号可以由机顶装置从遥控器接收,以及在方块52,机顶装置从显示器上去除网上内容。在方块54,信号流的显示可以从发生暂停的点处继续进行。用于这个显示的数据可以从贮存装置检索。
为了表示在广播期间相关的网上URL的可提供性,一个可见的记号(诸如透明的重叠图标)可以在输入的信号流中被提供。这个图标可被显示在显示器上,通知用户:当主要广播暂停时,与当前的广播有关的网上内容可被观看。在一个实施例中,URL可以具有相关的终止时间。例如,URL只在10秒内是有效的,在该时间另一个URL将代替当前的URL,以及机顶装置从贮存装置中除去该URL以作为“最近的”URL。如果没有与广播有关的当前有效的URL,则机顶装置可以不响应向前按钮选择。通过这样的特性,TV广播可以改进它们的广告商业模型以便包括“URL”时间以及广告时间。
为了方便于利用遥控器实施网上浏览,在本发明的一个实施例中,如果通过同时广播URL能够达到的网页被设计成可公布一个“向前的目的地”URL,则是很有利的。这个URL在用户按下向前按钮时被使用。通过使用在网页上的新型的基于XML的标签,这个向前的目的地URL可以从网上服务器16被发送到在机顶装置上执行的浏览器程序。如果被机顶装置保持的网页历史表当前不包括用于向前浏览按钮的数值,则这将会“促使(prime)向前按钮”标签向浏览器提供一个URL以供使用。这在通过使用简单的手持式遥控器24来浏览一系列网页时可能是有用的。用户可以仅仅按压同一个向前按钮26来读出附加的网上内容,然后按压向后按钮28相同的次数,就可返回到广播节目。
另外,在一个实施例中,互联网按钮30和TV按钮32可被包括在遥控器中。当用户暂停显示广播和正在显示器上度网上内容时,用户可以通过按压TV按钮32,而直接返回到显示广播。反之,当正在显示广播和用户想要进到当前可提供的URL时,用户可以按压互联网按钮30。应当指出,向前按钮26的初始选择也可选择显示网上内容。
在本发明的实施例中遇到的一个困难是获知何时去保存输入的实时广播信号流(究竟是广播电视内容还是流动的网上内容)和当用户互动地“冲浪”各种TV节目和网页时要去保存多少。在一个实施例中,如果用户正在观看广播TV,则可以假定用户在结束查看相关的网页后打算回到TV节目。然而,用户正在进行频道冲浪或网页冲浪,则所有访问的内容可能不用为了将来的观看而被保存。所以,可以利用一组规则来确定机顶装置10应当何时保存实时广播的内容。
如果用户启动向前按钮26进到当前工作的URL,则机顶装置可以开始保存当前输入的信号流。如果保存按钮29被启动,则机顶装置开始在贮存装置保存当前显示的信号流。用户在这时可以选择或不一定选择继续“冲浪”下去。在一个实施例中,用户不一定限于选择当前的工作的目的地URL。在本实施例中,用户可以选择另一个URL,该URL可以通过一个输入装置(诸如键盘(未示出))而被输入,或者可以以“硬线连接”到遥控器上另一个专用按钮。保存的广播特性可以作用在广播TV内容或流动的网上内容上。
如果用户观看广播节目已经经过了一段用户可设置的时间长度,则系统可推论:用户对该节目感兴趣,所以,如果用户切换频道或开始网上冲浪,则通过缺省方式而把节目的内容保存在贮存装置。这允许用户避免必须对于他在脱离开显示节目而进到网页之前已观看了一段时间的节目,要记住按下保存按钮不可。同时,系统可以根据用户如何概略地观看每个频道,而检测和忽略频道冲浪。在另一个实施例中,系统可以应用TV观看历史(和/或TV节目记录历史)的知识来自动确定:当一个节目在用户把当前的注意力转换到其它数据(诸如网页)时,用户对该节目是否有足够兴趣,从而要对它确保自动保存。
然而,由于保存按钮没有被按压,在一个实施例中,系统可以把对这个保存的数据的价值的内部估计减小到低于被明显地命令要进行保存的任何其它的数据。当贮存装置变成为充满时,系统可以首先重写自动保存的数据。
在本发明的另一个实施例中,上网器(web pad)可被提供来协调观看TV内容和网上内容。图3是按照本实施例的、用于综合广播电视暂停和网上浏览的系统。上网器80是手持的便携式计算器具,它提供一个单独的用户接口(UI)屏幕(例如,网络显示器82),用于观看网上内容。上网器可以包括一个或多个用户输入指示器,诸如按钮或触摸屏。由机顶装置10接收的TV内容中的URL可以通过双向射频(RF)链路83被传送到上网器中。上网器可用来获取和显示来自所接收的URL中的网上内容。由这些URL规定的网上内容可以通过机顶装置10,或通过到上网器80的另一个通信信道(诸如到互联网的分开的蜂窝电话/调制解调器连接,或被耦合到互联网的、基于RF的家庭网络)而被接收。上网器80包括TV暂停按钮84,它在被按下时可以命令机顶装置去暂停输入的信号流和把它保存在贮存装置中,这样,当用户的注意力集中在上网器上的网上内容时(用户可以选择暂停或不暂停TV演出),用户不会丢失演出。为了减小上网器的价格,机顶装置的贮存容量可被使用来存储所检索的网页。
在本实施例中,当用户在观看上网器上的网上内容的同时,他能够暂停TV内容,以及选择网上内容是进到上网器、或是TV屏幕、还是这二者。在后两种情形下,上网器用户输入(点击触摸屏按钮等)可被反映在显示器上显示的信息中。在这些情形下,显示器22可以作为用于上网器的从属视频输出对待。
系统中的上网器的使用至少存在一个附加的问题。上网器装置(它工作在有限的带宽的RF连接)的带宽可能不够高,使得视频流不能与高速互联网连接匹配。然而,通过综合TV功能与上网器,流动的网上内容可被显示在显示器22上。
在本发明的另一个实施例中,与TV演出有关的URL指向一个网址,该网址具有流动的视频内容。用户可以通过使用上网器浏览该网址,而与此同时用户可以观看TV演出(以及TV演出正呈现在显示器上,因为用户没有选择暂停它)。当用户发现与这个URL有关的网址具有流动的网上内容可供观看时,用户可以按下设在上网器上的TV暂停按钮84,以便使得机顶装置10暂停/记录TV内容和把流动的网上内容显示在显示器22上。用户现在可观看/收听显示器上(而不是上网器上)的流动的网上内容。在这时,上网器在视频图象的位置上可能只显示一个黑色方块(因为RF连接速度可能太慢,不能把流动的网上内容装载到上网器上)。
在本实施例与上述的其它的实施例之间的一个差别是使用多个独立的屏幕用来显示网上内容和在这些多个屏幕上协调TV内容和网上内容的控制/显示。上网器能够进行的特性之一是,它典型地包括供用户输入的触摸屏。如果网上内容被显示在显示器22上,而不是显示在网上显示器82上,则上网器的触摸屏可被用作来控制显示器上的光标。这比起一般在TV遥控器上找到的光标运动按钮(上、下、左、右)来说,具有优点。例如,对于复杂的用户接口,许多网址使用鼠标事件的精确的象素坐标。为了实施这个特性,可以在运行在上网器上的浏览器程序与运行在机顶装置上的浏览器之间使用一个协议来将用户接口事件传送到机顶浏览器上。上网器的浏览器的坐标系统可通过根据相应的屏幕的象素尺度进行的缩放而被变换成显示器的坐标系统。变换可以在机顶装置的浏览器中被完成,以便减小上网器的复杂性,这种复杂性可能会更多地限制处理能力。

图4是本发明的一个实施例的系统400的方框图。图1的机顶装置在一个实施例中可被实施为图4的系统400。系统400包括用来处理数据信号的处理器402。处理器402可以是复杂指令组计算机(CISC)微处理器、缩减指令组计算(RISC)微处理器、非常长的指令字(VLIW)微处理器、实施指令组的组合的处理器、或其它处理装置,诸如数字信号处理器。图4显示被实施为单个处理器系统400的、本发明的一个实施例的例子。然而,应当看到,本发明的实施例可以替换地被实施为具有多个处理器的系统。处理器402可被耦合到处理器总线404,它在处理器402与系统400中的其它部件之间传送数据信号。
系统400包括存储器406。存储器406可以是动态随机接入存储器(DRAM)器件、静态随机接入存储器(SRAM)器件、或其它存储器器件。存储器406可以存储可由处理器402执行的、由数据信号表示的指令和/或数据。指令和/或数据可以包括用于执行本发明的任何的和/或所有的技术。存储器406也可以包含附加软件和/或数据(未示出)。超高速缓存存储器408可以驻留在处理器402内,用于存储被存储在存储器406中的数据信号。在本实施例中的超高速缓存存储器408通过利用它的本地性访问的优点而可以加速处理器的存储器存取。替换地,在另一个实施例中,超高速缓存存储器可以位于处理器外部。
桥路/存储器控制器410可被耦合到处理器总线404和存储器406。桥路/存储器控制器410在处理器402、存储器406与系统400中的其它部件之间引导数据信号,以及在处理器总线404、存储器406、与第一输入/输出(I/O)总线412之间桥路连接数据信号。在某些实施例中,桥路/存储器控制器提供一个用于耦合到图形控制器413的图形端口。在本实施例中,图形控制器413接口到显示装置(未示出),以便把呈现的图象或由图形控制器处理的图象显示给用户。显示装置可以包括电视机、计算机监视器、平板显示器、或其它适当的显示装置。
第一I/O总线412可以包括单条总线或多条总线的组合。第一I/O总线412提供在系统400中的各个部件之间的通信链路。网络控制器414可被耦合到第一I/O总线412。网络控制器把系统400链接到一个网络,该网络可包括多个处理器系统(图3上未示出),以及可支持在各个系统之间的通信。处理系统的网络可以包括局域网(LAN)、广域网(WAM)、互联网、或其它网络。在某些实施例中,显示装置控制器416可被耦合到第一I/O总线412。显示装置耦合器416允许把显示装置耦合到系统400,以及被用作为在显示装置(未示出)与系统之间的接口。显示装置可包括电视机、计算机监视器、平板显示器、或其它适当的显示装置。显示装置通过显示装置控制器416从处理器402接收数据信号,以及把被包含在数据信号中的信息显示给系统400的用户。
第二I/O总线420可以包括单条总线或多条总线的组合。第二I/O总线420提供在系统400中的各个部件之间的通信链路。数据贮存装置422可被耦合到第二I/O总线420。数据贮存装置422可以包括硬盘驱动、软盘驱动、CD-ROM装置、快闪存储器装置、或其它大容量贮存装置。数据贮存装置422可包括一个或多个所描述的数据贮存装置。
键盘接口424可被耦合到第二I/O总线420。键盘接口424可包括键盘控制器或其它键盘接口装置。键盘接口424可包括专用装置,或可位于另一个装置(诸如总线控制器或其它控制器装置)之中。键盘接口424允许把键盘耦合到系统400,以及把数据从键盘传送到系统400。用户输入接口425可被耦合到第二I/O总线420。用户输入接口425可被耦合到用户输入装置(诸如遥控器、鼠标、游戏棒、或跟踪球),以便提供输入数据给计算机系统。音频控制器426可被耦合到第二I/O总线420。音频控制器426可以协调音频信号的记录和重放。总线桥路428把第一I/O桥路412耦合到第二I/O桥路420。总线桥路用来缓存和桥路连接第一I/O桥路412和第二I/O桥路420之间的数据信号。
本发明的实施例涉及到使用系统400来综合广播电视暂停和网上浏览。按照一个实施例,这样的处理可以由系统400通过响应于处理器执行存储器404中的指令序列而被完成。这样的指令可以从另一个计算机可读媒体(诸如数据贮存装置422)或通过网络控制器414从另一个源被读出到存储器404。执行指令序列可以使处理器402按照本发明的实施例综合广播电视暂停和网上浏览。在替换的实施例中,硬件电路可以代替软件指令或与软件指令相组合,以便用来实施本发明的实施例。因此,本发明并不限于硬件电路与软件的任何特定的组合。
系统400的元件执行在技术上熟知的、它们的传统的功能。具体地,数据贮存装置422可被使用来为可执行的指令和数据结构提供用于按照本发明的、综合广播电视暂停和网上浏览的方法的实施例的长期贮存,而存储器406则被使用来按较短期的原则在处理器402执行期间存储按照本发明的、用于综合广播电视暂停和网上浏览的方法的实施例的可执行的指令。
虽然本发明是参照说明性实施例描述的,但这些描述并不打算被认为是限制的意义。所说明的实施例的各种修改以及本发明的其它实施例对于与本发明有关的本领域技术人员是很明显的,它们被认为是属于本发明的精神和范围之内的。
Claims (15)
1.一种协调输入的信号流在显示器上的显示与网上浏览的方法,该方法包括:
存储与正在被显示的输入的信号流有关的统一资源定位符;
接收第一信号,以便显示与统一资源定位符有关的网上内容;
暂停显示输入的信号流;
当接收到第一信号时,根据用户的观看历史、用户的记录历史、和显示输入的信号流的当前节目的预定时间量中的至少一项,自动确定是否把输入的信号流存储在贮存装置中;
当确定输入的信号流是要被存储时,在暂停后把输入的信号流存储在贮存装置中;以及
获取并显示与统一资源定位符有关的网上内容。
2.权利要求1的方法,还包括:
接收第二信号,以便继续显示输入的信号流;
从显示器上去除网上内容;以及
通过从贮存装置获取输入的信号流而在出现暂停的点处继续显示输入的信号流。
3.权利要求1的方法,其中显示网上内容包括在整个显示屏幕上显示网上内容。
4.权利要求1的方法,其中输入的信号流包括广播TV内容。
5.权利要求1的方法,其中输入的信号流包括流动的网上内容。
6.权利要求1的方法,还包括当存储了与输入的信号流有关的统一资源定位符时,在显示器上提供可见的记号给用户。
7.权利要求1的方法,其中存储的统一资源定位符可被使用于只在预定的时间间隔内获取网上内容。
8.权利要求1的方法,还包括获取并显示与由用户规定的任何统一资源定位符有关的网上内容。
9.用于协调输入的信号流的显示与网上浏览的设备,该设备包括:
贮存装置,用于存储该输入的信号流和与该输入的信号流有关的统一资源定位符;
处理器,被耦合到贮存装置,该处理器执行以下指令:接收第一信号,以便显示与统一资源定位符有关的网上内容;暂停显示输入的信号流;当接收到第一信号时,根据用户的观看历史、用户的记录历史、和显示输入的信号流的当前节目的预定时间量中的至少一项,自动确定是否把输入的信号流存储在贮存装置中;当确定输入的信号流是要被存储时,在暂停后把输入的信号流存储在贮存装置中;以及获取并显示与统一资源定位符有关的网上内容。
10.权利要求9的设备,其中处理器还执行以下指令:接收第二信号,以便继续显示输入的信号流;从显示器上去除网上内容;以及通过从贮存装置获取输入的信号流而在出现暂停的点处继续显示输入的信号流。
11.权利要求10的设备,还包括一个用于与处理器通信的遥控器,该遥控器具有第一按钮,用于启动将第一信号发送到处理器,以及第二按钮,用于启动将第二信号发送到处理器。
12.权利要求11的设备,其中遥控器还包括第三按钮,用于启动将第三信号发送到处理器,以使得在出现暂停的点处继续显示输入的信号流。
13.权利要求10的设备,其中输入的信号流包括广播TV内容。
14.权利要求10的设备,其中输入的信号流包括流动的网上内容。
15.用于协调输入的信号流的显示与网上浏览的系统,该系统包括:
显示器;
机顶装置,该机顶装置具有一个贮存装置,用于存储输入的信号流和与输入的信号流有关的统一资源定位符,还具有一个处理器,它被耦合到贮存装置,该处理器执行以下指令:接收第一信号,以便显示与统一资源定位符有关的网上内容;暂停显示输入的信号流;当接收到第一信号时,根据用户的观看历史、用户的记录历史、和显示输入的信号流的当前节目的预定时间量中的至少一项,自动确定是否把输入的信号流存储在贮存装置中;当确定输入的信号流是要被存储时,在暂停后把输入的信号流存储在贮存装置中;和获取并转发与统一资源定位符有关的网上内容;以及
手持便携式计算器具,可通信地耦合到机顶装置,该计算器具具有第一显示器,用于显示从机顶装置接收的网上内容,和第一用户输入指示器,用于促使第一信号的发送。
