根据一些示例实施例,时序控制器500可以接收与显示亮度对应的亮度等级DBV。显示亮度可以是在显示面板100上显示的图像的亮度。显示亮度可以由用户的设置确定或者由显示设备的处理器来确定。亮度等级DBV可以是通过将显示亮度转换为数字值而获得的值。可替代地,时序控制器500可以接收与显示亮度对应的信号,并将信号转换为数字的亮度等级DBV。例如,高达大约650尼特的显示亮度可以被分为8位的亮度等级DBV。然而,这仅是示例,并且显示亮度的最大亮度和亮度等级DBV不限于此。

扫描驱动器200可以从时序控制器500接收扫描驱动控制信号(包括扫描开始信号SSP和时钟信号CLK)。扫描驱动器200可以响应于扫描驱动控制信号而将扫描信号供给到扫描线SL1至SLn。扫描信号的脉冲宽度可以与时钟信号CLK的栅导通时段对应地被调整。
根据一些示例实施例,扫描驱动器200可以输出具有与第一显示亮度(或第一亮度等级)对应的第一脉冲宽度的扫描信号和具有与低于第一显示亮度的第二显示亮度(或第二亮度等级)对应的第二脉冲宽度的扫描信号。此时,第二脉冲宽度可以短于第一脉冲宽度。
根据一些示例实施例,扫描信号的脉冲宽度可以随着显示亮度降低而减小。扫描信号的脉冲宽度可以是在其中扫描信号具有栅导通电平的时段的宽度。
发射驱动器300可以从时序控制器500接收发射驱动控制信号(包括发射控制开始信号ESP)。发射驱动器300可以响应于发射驱动控制信号而将发射控制信号供给到发射控制线EL1至ELn。
数据驱动器400可以从时序控制器500接收数据驱动控制信号DCS和图像数据DATA2。数据驱动器400可以响应于数据驱动控制信号DCS而将具有模拟形式的数据信号(数据电压)供给到数据线DL1至DLm。供给到数据线DL1至DLm的数据信号可以被供给到由扫描信号选择的像素P。

参考图1和图2,像素P可以包括第一晶体管T1至第七晶体管T7、发光器件LED和存储电容器Cst。这里,布置在第j列(其中j为自然数)和第i行(其中i为大于1的自然数)的像素P将作为示例被描述。

第四晶体管T4可以耦接在第一节点N1和传输初始化电源电压VINT的导线之间。第四晶体管T4可以包括连接至第i-1扫描线SLi-1的栅电极。当第四晶体管T4导通时,初始化电源电压VINT可以被供给到第一晶体管T1的栅电极。例如,初始化电源电压VINT可以是用于初始化第一晶体管T1的栅电压的初始化电压。
第五晶体管T5可以耦接在用于传输第一电源电压VDD的电源线和第一晶体管T1的第一电极之间。第五晶体管T5可以包括连接至第i发射控制线ELi的栅电极。
第六晶体管T6可以耦接在第一晶体管T1的第二电极和发光器件LED的第一电极(例如,阳极)之间。第六晶体管T6可以包括连接至第i发射控制线ELi的栅电极。
第五晶体管T5和第六晶体管T6可以响应于发射控制信号而导通。通过导通第五晶体管T5和第六晶体管T6,驱动电流可以被供给到发光器件LED。发光器件LED可以以与驱动电流对应的灰度级而发光。
第七晶体管T7可以耦接在发光器件LED的第一电极和传输初始化电源电压VINT的导线之间。第七晶体管T7可以包括连接至第i-1扫描线SLi-1的栅电极。当第七晶体管T7导通时,初始化电源电压VINT可以被传输到发光器件LED的第一电极。
发光器件LED可以连接在第六晶体管T6的第二电极和第二电源电压VSS之间。根据一些示例实施例,第一电源电压VDD可以大于第二电源电压VSS。发光器件LED可以是包括有机发光层的有机发光二极管。根据一些示例实施例,发光器件LED可以是无机发光器件、包括多个纳米发光二极管的发光器件或者使用量子点效应发光的发光器件。
当扫描信号被供给到第三晶体管T3达足够的时间时,可以通过二极管连接的第一晶体管T1而将与数据电压和第一晶体管T1的阈值电压(阈值电压的绝对值)之间的差对应的电压(例如,第一栅电压)供给到第一节点N1。然而,当扫描信号的脉冲宽度变短时,没有完全地进行第一晶体管T1的阈值电压补偿,并且对于相同的数据电压,低于第一栅电压的第二栅电压可以被供给到第一节点N1。因此,流过第一晶体管T1的驱动电流(或补偿电流)可以被增大。
另一方面,当屏幕从黑灰度级的图像(低灰度图像)到白灰度级的图像(高灰度图像)的改变达到突然的灰度级改变时,步进效率可能由于发光器件LED的寄生电容等而被降低,该步进效率是紧接在屏幕改变之后的灰度级(例如,屏幕改变之后的第一帧的实际灰度级)与紧接在屏幕改变之后的当前图像的目标灰度级(例如,理想亮度)的比率。例如,显示亮度越低,越多的由降低的步进效率导致的诸如余像的图像缺陷可以在视觉上被识别。
根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备可以通过随着亮度降低而减小供给到第二晶体管T2和第三晶体管T3的扫描信号的脉冲宽度来增大第一晶体管T1的驱动电流。因此,当屏幕从低灰度级改变为高灰度级时,可以提高步进效率。
图3是图示供给到图2的像素的信号的示例的时序图。
参考图1、图2和图3,第一帧F1的扫描信号Si-1和Si的脉冲宽度与第二帧F2的扫描信号Si-1和Si的脉冲宽度可以彼此不同。
图3的时序图示出了供给到布置在第i像素行中并且连接到第i扫描线SLi和第i-1扫描线SLi-1的像素P的信号。第i扫描信号Si可以被供给到第i扫描线SLi,并且第i-1扫描信号Si-1可以被供给到第i-1扫描线SLi-1。另外,第i发射控制信号Ei可以被供给到第i发射控制线ELi。
显示设备1000在第一帧F1中可以发射具有第一显示亮度DB1的光,并且显示设备1000在第二帧F2中可以发射具有低于第一显示亮度DB1的第二显示亮度DB2的光。例如,第一显示亮度DB1可以为大约50尼特,并且第二显示亮度DB2可以为大约4尼特。
在第一帧F1的第一时间点t1处,第i发射控制信号Ei可以从栅导通电压转变为栅截止电压,并且第五晶体管T5和第六晶体管T6可以被截止。第i发射控制信号Ei的栅截止电压可以保持到第六时间点t6。从第一时间点t1到第六时间点t6的时段可以被定义为第一帧F1的非发射时段。第一帧F1的除了非发射时段之外的剩余时段可以是发光时段。第i发射控制信号Ei可以在第六时间点t6处从栅截止电压转变为栅导通电压。
之后,在第二时间点t2处,第i-1扫描信号Si-1可以从栅截止电压转变为栅导通电压,并且第四晶体管T4和第七晶体管T7可以被导通。第i-1扫描信号Si-1的栅导通电压可以保持到第三时间点t3。此时,第一晶体管T1的栅电压和发光器件LED的阳极电压可以被初始化。第i-1扫描信号Si-1可以在第三时间点t3处从栅导通电压转变为栅截止电压。
在第四时间点t4处,第i扫描信号Si可以从栅截止电压转变为栅导通电压,并且第二晶体管T2和第三晶体管T3可以被导通。第i扫描信号Si的栅导通电压可以保持到第五时间点t5。此时,数据可以被写入第一晶体管T1,并且第一晶体管T1的阈值电压可以被补偿。第i扫描信号Si可以在第五时间点t5处从栅导通电压转变为栅截止电压。
第一帧F1中的扫描信号Si-1和Si可以具有与第一显示亮度DB1对应的第一脉冲宽度PW1。
类似于第一帧F1中的操作,在第二帧F2的非发射时段中可以将第i-1扫描信号Si-1和第i扫描信号Si顺序地供给到像素P。在第二帧F2中,第二时间点t2和第三时间点t3′之间的间隔以及第四时间点t4和第五时间点t5′之间的间隔可以各自小于第一脉冲宽度PW1。也就是说,在第二帧F2中供给的扫描信号Si-1和Si的第二脉冲宽度PW2可以小于第一脉冲宽度PW1。在这种情况下,第二帧F2的第三时间点t3’和第四时间点t4之间的间隔可以大于第一帧F1的第三时间点t3和第四时间点t4之间的间隔。
具有相对低的显示亮度的第二帧F2中的第一晶体管T1的阈值电压补偿时间可以比第一帧F1中的第一晶体管T1的阈值电压补偿时间短。因此,可以将第二帧F2中的第一晶体管T1的栅电压(或补偿点)升高,并且可以提高低亮度下的步进效率。
图4A、图4B和图4C是图示根据显示亮度确定的扫描信号的脉冲宽度的示例的曲线图。
参考图2、图3、图4A、图4B和图4C,可以根据显示亮度DB和亮度等级DBV来调整扫描信号的脉冲宽度SPW。
根据一些示例实施例,当显示亮度DB高于参考亮度(例如,预定参考亮度)R_DB时,扫描信号可以具有第一脉冲宽度(例如,图3中的PW1)。也就是说,当显示亮度DB高于参考亮度R_DB时,可以不改变扫描信号的脉冲宽度SPW。例如,可以将参考亮度R_DB设置为大约100尼特。参考亮度R_DB不限于此。例如,参考亮度R_DB可以被确定为与相对低的亮度对应的小于或等于大约10尼特的值。
根据一些示例实施例,如图4A中所示,当显示亮度DB等于或低于参考亮度R_DB时,扫描信号可以具有第二脉冲宽度(例如,图3中的PW2)。第二脉冲宽度PW2可以短于第一脉冲宽度PW1。但是,第二脉冲宽度PW2可以具有第一脉冲宽度PW1的50%或以上的长度。因此,可以确保所需的最小阈值电压补偿时段。
根据一些示例实施例,当显示亮度DB等于或低于参考亮度R_DB时,扫描信号的脉冲宽度SPW可以随着显示亮度DB降低而减小。例如,如图4B中所示,可以与预定的显示亮度DB对应地逐渐减小扫描信号的脉冲宽度SPW。在这种情况下,随着显示亮度DB被降低,改变扫描信号的脉冲宽度SPW的周期可以被缩短。在另一实施例中,如图4C中所示,扫描信号的脉冲宽度SPW可以随着显示亮度DB降低而线性地减小。从而,可以根据显示亮度DB来确定扫描信号的脉冲宽度SPW。
然而,根据显示亮度DB的扫描信号的脉冲宽度SPW不限于此。扫描信号的最小脉冲宽度可以被设置为不小于扫描信号的最大脉冲宽度的40%至50%。例如,当扫描信号的最大脉冲宽度为大约4.5μm时,扫描信号的最小脉冲宽度可以为大约2μm。
如以上所描述的,根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备可以通过降低与低亮度对应的扫描信号的脉冲宽度SPW来提高低亮度下的步进效率。
图5是图示图1的显示设备中包括的扫描驱动器的示例的框图。
参考图5,扫描驱动器200可以包括多个级ST1至ST4。第一级ST1至第四级ST4中的每一个可以连接至第一扫描线至第四扫描线中的每一条,并且可以与时钟信号CLK1和CLK2对应地被驱动。这样的级ST1至ST4可以以基本上相同的电路被配置。
级ST1至ST4中的每一个可以包括第一输入端子101、第二输入端子102、第三输入端子103和输出端子104。
第一输入端子101可以接收前一级的输出信号(例如,扫描信号)或扫描开始信号SSP。例如,第一级ST1的第一输入端子101可以接收扫描开始信号SSP,并且第二级ST2的第一输入端子101可以接收从第一级ST1输出的扫描信号S1。
根据一些示例实施例,第k级(k是小于n的自然数)的第二输入端子102可以接收第一时钟信号CLK1,并且第三输入端子103可以接收第二时钟信号CLK2。另一方面,第k+1级的第二输入端子102可以接收第二时钟信号CLK2,并且第三输入端子103可以接收第一时钟信号CLK1。
第一时钟信号CLK1和第二时钟信号CLK2可以具有彼此不重叠的相同的周期和相位。也就是说,第一时钟信号CLK1和第二时钟信号CLK2的栅导通时段可以彼此不重叠。例如,当期间扫描信号被供给到一条扫描线的时段是一个水平时段时,时钟信号CLK1和CLK2每个可以具有2个水平时段的时段,并且可以在不同的水平时段中被供给。
尽管图5示出了两个时钟信号被供给到扫描驱动器200,但是供给到扫描驱动器200的时钟信号的数量不限于此。例如,根据级的配置,三个或更多个时钟信号可以被提供到扫描驱动器200。
另外,级ST1至ST4可以被供给有第一电压VGL和第二电压VGH。第一电压VGL和第二电压VGH可以具有DC电压电平。第二电压VGH可以具有比第一电压VGL更高的值。
根据一些示例实施例,第一电压VGL可以被设置为栅导通电压,并且第二电压VGH可以被设置为栅截止电压。例如,当像素P和扫描驱动器200由PMOS晶体管组成时,第一电压VGL可以对应于逻辑低电平,并且第二电压VGH可以对应于逻辑高电平。第一电压VGL和第二电压VGH不限于此。例如,可以根据晶体管的类型、显示设备的使用环境等来设置第一电压VGL和第二电压VGH。

参考图5、图6A和图6B,第i级STi可以包括节点控制单元120和输出缓冲器单元140,其中i是n或更小的自然数。
节点控制单元120可以包括多个晶体管和用于响应于前一级的输出信号(例如,第i-1扫描信号Si-1或第i-1进位信号)来控制第一节点Q和第二节点QB的电压的至少一个电容器。节点控制单元120可以响应于第i-1扫描信号Si-1和第二时钟信号CLK2而将栅截止电压供给到第一节点Q并且将栅导通电压供给到第二节点QB。

上拉晶体管TU可以根据第一节点Q的电压状态而导通或截止,并且可以在上拉晶体管TU处于导通状态时将第二电压VGH施加至输出端子NO。
下拉晶体管TD可以根据第二节点QB的电压状态而导通或截止,并且可以在下拉晶体管TD处于导通状态时将第一时钟信号CLK1施加到输出端子NO。
可以根据亮度等级DBV(或显示亮度)改变第一时钟信号CLK1和第二时钟信号CLK2的栅导通时段。例如,第一时钟信号CLK1和第二时钟信号CLK2的栅导通时段可以具有与第一显示亮度对应的第一脉冲宽度,并且第一时钟信号CLK1和第二时钟信号CLK2的栅导通时段可以具有与低于第一显示亮度的第二显示亮度对应的第二脉冲宽度。第二脉冲宽度可以短于第一脉冲宽度。
扫描驱动器200可以基于从时序控制器500供给的第一时钟信号CLK1和第二时钟信号CLK2的栅导通时段的宽度来确定扫描信号S1至S4的脉冲宽度。
从而,当图像从低灰度级突然改变为高灰度级时,通过减少像素P的驱动晶体管(图2中的第一晶体管T1)的补偿时间来降低驱动晶体管的栅电压。也就是说,驱动晶体管的驱动电流被增大。因此,在从低灰度级图像到高灰度级图像的转换的时间处的步进效率可以被提高。

时序控制器500可以输出具有与第一显示亮度DB1对应的第一脉冲宽度PW1的栅导通时段GOP的时钟信号CLK1和CLK2,并且可以输出具有与第二显示亮度DB2对应的第二脉冲宽度PW2的栅导通时段GOP的时钟信号CLK1和CLK2。第二脉冲宽度PW2可以短于第一脉冲宽度PW1。
在第一帧F1期间,扫描驱动器200可以与第一时钟信号CLK1或第二时钟信号CLK2的栅导通时段GOP同步地顺序施加具有第一脉冲宽度PW1的扫描信号S1和S2。在第二帧F2期间,扫描驱动器200可以与第一时钟信号CLK1或第二时钟信号CLK2的栅导通时段GOP同步地顺序施加具有第二脉冲宽度PW2的扫描信号S1和S2。

参考图1和图8,第一帧F1和第二帧F2中的扫描信号Si-1和Si的脉冲宽度可以彼此不同。显示设备1000在第一帧F1中可以发射具有第一显示亮度DB1的光,并且显示设备1000在第二帧F2中可以发射具有低于第一显示亮度DB1的第二显示亮度DB2的光。
根据一些示例实施例,当显示亮度(或亮度等级DBV)等于或低于预定参考亮度时,发射控制信号Ei的栅截止时段(即,非发射时段NEP1和NEP2)可以根据显示亮度而变化。也就是说,当显示亮度等于或低于参考亮度时,可以根据发射控制信号Ei的非发射时段NEP1和NEP2的宽度来确定显示亮度。
例如,与第一显示亮度DB1对应的第一非发射时段NEP1可以短于与第二显示亮度DB2对应的第二非发射时段NEP2。另外,与第一显示亮度DB1对应的扫描信号Si-1和Si的第一脉冲宽度PW1可以大于与第二显示亮度DB2对应的扫描信号Si-1和Si的第二脉冲宽度PW2。
如图8中所示,扫描信号Si-1和Si的脉冲宽度可以随着显示亮度降低而减小,并且发射控制信号Ei的非发射时段(栅截止时段)的宽度可以增大。
如以上所描述的,在根据本发明的一些示例实施例的显示设备中,可以通过随着显示亮度DB降低而减小供给到像素P的扫描信号的脉冲宽度来增大像素P的驱动电流。因此,在将图像从低灰度级改变为高灰度级时的步进效率和图像质量可以被提高。

Claims (10)
1.一种显示设备,包括:
显示面板,包括多个像素;
扫描驱动器,被配置为通过扫描线将扫描信号供给到所述像素;和
时序控制器,被配置为根据所述显示面板的显示亮度来控制所述扫描信号的脉冲宽度。
2.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中,所述扫描驱动器被配置为输出具有与第一显示亮度对应的第一脉冲宽度的所述扫描信号,并且被配置为输出具有与低于所述第一显示亮度的第二显示亮度对应的第二脉冲宽度的所述扫描信号。
3.根据权利要求2所述的显示设备,其中,所述第二脉冲宽度短于所述第一脉冲宽度。
4.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中,所述扫描信号的所述脉冲宽度随着所述显示亮度降低而减小。
5.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中,所述扫描驱动器被配置为响应于所述显示亮度高于预定参考亮度而输出具有第一脉冲宽度的所述扫描信号,并且
其中所述扫描驱动器被配置为响应于所述显示亮度等于或低于所述预定参考亮度而输出具有短于所述第一脉冲宽度的第二脉冲宽度的所述扫描信号。
6.根据权利要求5所述的显示设备,其中,响应于所述显示亮度等于或低于所述预定参考亮度,所述扫描信号的所述脉冲宽度随着所述显示亮度降低而减小。
7.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,其中,所述扫描驱动器被配置为基于从所述时序控制器供给的时钟信号的栅导通时段的宽度来确定所述扫描信号的所述脉冲宽度。
8.根据权利要求7所述的显示设备,其中,所述时序控制器被配置为输出具有与第一显示亮度对应的第一脉冲宽度的所述栅导通时段的所述时钟信号,并且被配置为输出具有与低于所述第一显示亮度的第二显示亮度对应的第二脉冲宽度的所述栅导通时段的所述时钟信号,并且
其中所述第二脉冲宽度短于所述第一脉冲宽度。
9.根据权利要求7所述的显示设备,其中,所述时钟信号的所述栅导通时段的所述宽度随着所述显示亮度降低而减小,并且
其中所述时序控制器被配置为将所述显示亮度转换为数字值的亮度等级,并且被配置为输出具有与所述亮度等级对应的所述栅导通时段的所述时钟信号。
10.根据权利要求1所述的显示设备,进一步包括:
数据驱动器,被配置为通过数据线将数据信号供给到所述像素;和
发射驱动器,被配置为通过发射控制线将发射控制信号供给到所述像素,并且
其中响应于所述显示亮度等于或低于预定参考亮度,所述显示亮度随着所述发射控制信号的栅截止时段的宽度增大而降低。
