Background
Thyme (Thymus mongolicus Ronn) is an ancient plant with a long history of disease treatment, which can be traced back to northern Song in Chinese medical records. The Xinjiang Chinese herbal handbook records the functions of treating cold, expelling wind, strengthening spleen to promote digestion, relieving cough and reducing sputum, warming middle-jiao and dispelling cold; it has spasmolytic, wind-dispelling and strengthening effects, and can be used for treating inflammation, spasmodic cough, pertussis, and sore throat; the thyme decoction can be used for treating pharyngolaryngitis and stomatitis by gargling, and has good effect. Ancient Egyptian preserved with thyme, and ancient Marian preserved with thyme for antibacterial purposes. In the middle century, plague spread throughout europe, which used thyme to treat epidemic and leprosy. In two world war times in the beginning of the 20 th century, hospitals in europe use it as a disinfectant and an antibacterial agent. In recent years, thyme essential oil is used for treating various diseases such as tracheitis, arthritis, influenza, cold, cough and the like in folks, and has better curative effect.
The use of thyme essential oil has been around for thousands of years, with its remarkable efficacy witnessed. The oil content of the thyme essential oil is about 0.5%, and the components with medicinal value mainly comprise thymol, carvacrol, linalool, gamma-terpinene, p-cymene and the like, wherein the content of the thymol is the maximum.
The thyme essential oil has certain anti-inflammatory effect, and researches show that the phagocytic activity of abdominal cavity macrophages of mice can be obviously improved by continuously intragastrically administering the mice for 15 days at a dose of 200 mg/kg; when the rat is continuously perfused with 800mg/kg dose for 10 days, the growth of granulation tissue can be obviously inhibited.
The thyme essential oil has strong bacteriostatic effect and broad spectrum, and has obvious inhibiting effect on escherichia coli, staphylococcus aureus, bacillus subtilis, staphylococcus epidermidis and pseudomonas aeruginosa. In vitro measurement of thyme: (T.magnusNakai) has strong inhibitory effect on pathogenic bacteria such as streptococcus pneumoniae, staphylococcus aureus and salmonella typhimurium, and has synergistic inhibitory effect on staphylococcus aureus, especially drug-resistant strains thereof, thyme essential oil and norfloxacin.
Bronchitis refers to chronic nonspecific inflammation of the trachea, bronchial mucosa, and surrounding tissues. Bronchitis is mainly caused by the chronic nonspecific inflammation of the bronchi resulting from repeated infections with viruses and bacteria. When the temperature is reduced, the respiratory tract small vessel spasm ischemia, defense function is reduced, and the like, the disease is favorably caused; chronic irritation such as smog and dust, and air pollution can also cause diseases; smoking causes bronchospasm, mucosal variation, ciliary movement reduction, mucus secretion increase and infection is benefited; allergic factors are also related. Clinically, it is characterized by long-term cough, expectoration, or accompanied by wheezing and recurrent attacks.
The traditional Chinese medicine and the traditional Chinese medicine are used for treating bronchitis, and the Western medicine mostly uses antibacterial drugs (penicillin, cephalosporins, macrolides, erythromycin and the like), cough-relieving and phlegm-eliminating drugs (ambroxol hydrochloride, bromhexine, carbocysteine and the like) and antiviral drugs, and the drugs are taken by oral administration, intramuscular injection or intravenous drip or are assisted by atomization inhalation for treatment, so that the curative effect is quick, but the long-term use of antibiotics has great damage to the body and is easy to generate drug resistance. The traditional Chinese medicine is mostly decocted and taken by a Chinese herbal medicine formula, can treat both symptoms and root causes, systematically condition body functions, but has long treatment period, slow effect, large dosage and certain toxic and side effects on organisms.
Therefore, in order to fully exert the effects of the thyme essential oil such as relieving cough and reducing sputum, resisting inflammation, resisting bacteria and viruses, treating cold and the like, a novel formulation of the thyme essential oil is developed, the stability of the thyme essential oil is improved, a matched treatment method easy for directional administration is provided, and the thyme essential oil has important significance for treating bronchitis.
