技术领域

背景技术
除其他功能外,光纤还具有将低光束质量(例如,M2>>1.5)输入光转换成高光束质量(例如,M2<1.5)输出光的潜力。然而,据信,这种潜力基本上仅在IR(红外)光谱中实现,然后仅在900nm至2000nm范围内。

本发明的实施方案涉及具有低传播损耗的光纤、多包层光纤以及用于高功率和高亮度光的光纤的配置。

通过将附加的掺杂剂添加到外包层来防止GRIN光芯中的掺杂剂的日晒。优选的掺杂剂是锗,其可以与氟组合以减少在外包层中的折射率干扰。这些附加的掺杂剂保护纤芯中的掺杂剂免受来自环境以及纤维制造过程中的UV辐射。
多包层光纤提供了一种经由稀土离子的直接激光发射跃迁或经由非线性光学器件的频率位移,将高功率、低亮度的光转换为高功率、高亮度的光的方法。小模式有效面积(例如,200μm2或更小)和长相互作用长度(例如,50米或更小)使得能够有效地产生高亮度光。注意力主要集中在光谱的近红外部分,在该部分中,光纤的传播、半导体泵浦激光器是现成可用的,并且稀土离子具有适当的吸收带和发射带。另外,低传播损耗可以导致有效的非线性光学过程,甚至通过二氧化硅基玻璃提供适度的非线性。
本发明的实施方案允许在光谱的可见和UV部分中使用光纤以在将低亮度光转换成高亮度光时产生高功率。然而,在光谱的可见和UV部分中,几乎没有稀土离子具有大量吸收和发射截面,同时具有长的上态寿命,因此,还存在通常不使用非线性光学进行有效操作的教导。有利的是,根据米勒定律,大多数非线性会增加1/λ的函数,其中λ是光的波长。因此,与光谱的近红外部分相比,光谱的可见和UV部分中的非线性系数更高。然而,由于瑞利散射引起的损耗随1/λ4增加,从而光损耗很快就阻止有效非线性光学的出现。另外,许多材料的电子吸收带边缘的尾边缘从光谱的UV部分延伸到可见光部分。
本发明的一个实施方案包括组合减少光谱的UV和可见光部分中的光损耗以及结合多包层光纤设计以增加光纤的有效非线性。结果是在光纤中在光谱的可见光部分中将低亮度光转换为高亮度光的有效手段。
光纤用于将低光束质量(M2>>1.5)的光传输和转换为高光束质量(M2<1.5)的光。由本发明的系统转换的低质量激光束,特别是低质量蓝色、绿色和蓝绿色激光束的M2可为约1.55至约10、约2至约5、约1.6至约15和更大的值,以及在这些范围内的所有值。通过转换这些低质量激光束(包括低质量蓝色激光束)提供的高质量激光束的M2可为约1.5至约1.1、小于1.5、小于1.4、小于1.3、理论上为1,以及这些范围内的所有值。另外,由本发明的系统的实施方案提供的转换的激光束的M2值比初始或低质量激光束的M2值可提高至少约20%、至少约30%、至少约40%、至少约50%和至少约5%至约50%。
本发明的光纤的实施方案,特别是对于蓝光、蓝绿光和绿光波长,其NA为约0.1至0.8、约0.2至约0.8、等于或大于约0.22、等于或大于0.25、约0.22、约0.3、约0.4至约0.5、约0.5至约0.8和更大或更小的NA,以及这些范围内的所有值。本文所用的高NA是在该范围内的大于0.22的NA。
光纤的实施方案提供了低的传播损耗,特别是对于蓝光、蓝绿光和绿光波长,该传播损耗为约10dB/km至大约40dB/km、约10dB/km至约30dB/km、约20dB/km至约40dB/km、大于约15dB/km、大于约10dB/km,和更大和更小的值,以及这些范围内的所有值。
转向图1,图1是示出从光纤的一个实施方案的纤芯的中心到外半径的相对折射率分布的实施方案的图。在该实施方案中,折射率分布表现出所公开的光纤的径向对称性。虚线表示纯二氧化硅玻璃对于预期波长或操作的折射率。高于该虚线的值表示在预期操作波长下比二氧化硅玻璃的折射率高的折射率。低于该虚线的值表示在预期操作波长下比二氧化硅玻璃的折射率低的折射率。
在该实施方案中,光纤具有半径为20μm的纤芯,厚度为11.25μm的第一包层,厚度为6.25μm的第二包层和厚度为25μm的第三(和外)包层,以及由聚酰亚胺或丙烯酸酯形成且厚度为60μm的外涂层。虚线1显示了在操作波长下的二氧化硅玻璃的基线折射率。从光纤的纤芯的中心开始,显示GRIN区域2相对于内包层区域3的折射率增加。第二包层区域4与内包层区域3相比折射率降低,从而产生大数值孔径。外包层区域5是光纤的最终玻璃部分,其由于在第二包层区域4的外部边缘附近添加了UV吸收改性剂而折射率略高于二氧化硅玻璃。
光纤的GRIN纤芯2含有的改性剂的折射率比二氧化硅玻璃高,从而在GRIN纤芯2和内包层3之间产生正折射率差。正折射率差充当光纤内部的恒定透镜,迫使低阶模式的有效面积变小。在辐照度依赖性非线性光学过程期间,较小的有效面积导致更大的能量交换,诸如四波混频、受激布里渊散射和受激拉曼散射。选择改性剂使得其在被可见光照射时不会造成额外的损失,这就排除诸如锗的元素。在一个优选的实施方案中,该限制允许使用铝和/或磷。
还选择改性剂使得要在能量交换过程中使用的非线性系数相对于内包层增加,即,对四波混频的χ(3)张量的电子贡献,对受激拉曼散射的χ(3)张量的电子振动贡献,对受激布里渊散射的χ(3)张量的电致伸缩贡献。在一个优选的实施方案中,选择改性剂为磷,因为其二氧化硅玻璃的拉曼增益曲线的有效偶联和增加。
改性剂的类型和量
内包层(3)和第二包层(4)的目的是提供最大的折射率差。高折射率差允许在界定的圆锥体体积内的光耦合到光纤的内包层。光纤的NA被定义为入射光线相对于光纤轴的最大角的正弦,该入射光线将被引导到光纤内包层中。当将光从空气耦合到光纤中时,NA被定义为NA=(n内包层 2–n外包层 2)0.5,其中n内包层是内包层(3)的折射率,n外包层第二包层(4)的折射率。
获得高NA必须使用相对于内包层区域(3)具有较低折射率的第二包层(4)。为了使光损耗最小,内包层区域的优选实施方案是使用二氧化硅玻璃。可使用针对二氧化硅玻璃的改性剂以便降低折射率。在优选的实施方案中,第二包层(4)中的改性剂为氟、硼或者氟或硼的组合。
第二包层区域4的另一优选实施方案是使用光子晶体光纤(PCF)结构。PCF结构被设计成使得第二包层的有效折射率低于内包层,并且可以低于通过在二氧化硅玻璃中使用诸如氟、硼或氟和硼的组合的改性剂而可能产生的折射率。
下表列出了要用作第二包层区域的PCF结构的相关参数和尺寸。

第二包层区域4的又一优选实施方案是使用可UV固化的低折射率聚合物。选择在蓝光区域具有最小吸收和具有低折射率的聚合物。下表中给出了建议的光纤的实例:

外包层5不旨在引导任何可见光而是提供两种功能。首先,它防止可见光与通常置于外包层外部的机械上坚固的外涂层6相互作用。外涂层6可以是金属的、有机的或无机的。其次,外包层含有吸收UV光从而防止与光纤的内包层3、4和纤芯2相互作用的改性剂。
另一个蓝光光纤激光器实施方案是这样的配置,其中光纤上的光引导涂层由用于将泵浦光限制在光学纤芯内部的低折射率聚合物组成。这种聚合物的一个实例是低折射率聚合物LUVANTIX PC373。这种材料具有很高的数值孔径,即非常陡峭的光输入锥形体,光随后由全内反射引导。这些聚合物对高功率光的光学损伤具有良好的抵抗力。用聚合物涂层产生的高数值孔径(NA)超过仅掺杂包层玻璃而产生的输入角度以产生全内反射表面。在优选的实施方案中,通过使用聚合物涂层产生的NA光纤具有大于0.22的NA。在该实施方案中,光学纤芯可以含有先前描述的GRIN结构,并且可以具有或可以不具有内包层,即,外部涂层可以用作泵浦光的主要或次要限制表面。
对于蓝光光纤激光器,另一实施方案是光学纤芯与光纤的泵浦引导部分不对称的情况,如D形纤芯或椭圆形纤芯的情况。在这些情况下,不对称纤芯的目的是优化泵模式的提取。
在光纤制造过程中,以液体形式施加外涂层(6),并且暴露于UV光使液体硬化成固体,从而形成针对玻璃光纤的机械保护层。UV对纤芯中的改性剂的暴露会导致其他损失机制,例如色心缺陷。在外包层中包括一种或多种改性剂会在光纤制造过程中吸收UV光,并阻止UV光与GRIN纤芯和第二包层(如果存在)中的改性剂相互作用。在一个优选的实施方案中,外包层中的改性剂是锗。
在一个实施方案中,描述了一种多包层光纤设计,以便在光谱的UV和可见光部分中为基本传播模式,线性偏振(LP)01模式提供低光损耗、高数值孔径(NA)和高光增益。光纤设计可以含有掺杂剂,以便同时增加纤芯区域的光学增益,同时避免在光纤制造过程中的额外损耗。光纤设计可以掺入稀土掺杂剂以有效地发射激光。另外,光学纤芯中传播模式的模态特性可促进高效的非线性混合,从而提供发射光的高光束质量(M2<1.5)输出。

Claims (17)
1.一种二氧化硅基的多包层光纤,包括:
纤芯,所述纤芯被第一包层包围,所述光纤具有高NA,所述NA为0.22 < NA < 0.8;所述光纤被配置为将M2>> 1.5的低光束质量的可见光或UV光转换为M2<1.5的高光束质量的光;
氢气掺杂剂,由此所述光纤被配置为在光谱的可见光和/或UV光中提供低传播损耗,所述低传播损耗为10 dB/km至40 dB/km;和,
所述纤芯包括GRIN结构。
2.根据权利要求1所述的光纤,其中,所述GRIN结构包括选自以下的组分:针对二氧化硅玻璃以改变折射率的改性剂;包含二氧化硅玻璃、改变有效折射率的结构;以及针对二氧化硅玻璃以保护所述纤芯免受UV辐射的改性剂。
3.根据权利要求1或2所述的光纤,其中所述第一包层被第二包层包围,并且所述第二包层被外包层包围,其中每个所述包层包括二氧化硅玻璃。
4.根据权利要求1或2所述的光纤,其中所述第一包层被第二包层包围,并且所述第二包层被外包层包围,其中每个所述包层包括具有化学改性剂的二氧化硅玻璃,所述化学改性剂为氟或硼或锗,或氟锗的组合,或氟硼的组合,每个所述包层的化学改性剂可以相同,也可以不同。
5.根据权利要求1所述的光纤,其中所述低光束质量的光通过稀土离子的直接激光发射被转换为所述高光束质量的光。
6.根据权利要求1所述的光纤,其中所述低光束质量的光通过由非线性光学器件引起的能量交换过程被转换为所述高光束质量的光。
7.根据权利要求1所述的光纤,其中所述GRIN结构包括选自磷、铝以及铝和磷中的组分。
8.根据权利要求1所述的光纤,其中所述GRIN结构包括选自以下的组分:增加二氧化硅玻璃的折射率并在被蓝光照射时不会日晒的材料。
9.根据权利要求8所述的光纤,被配置为对所述光纤的基本模式,LP01模式,表现出最高的非线性增益。
10.根据权利要求1所述的光纤,包括包围所述第一包层的第二包层,其中所述第二包层的有效折射率低于所述第一包层的折射率。
11.根据权利要求10所述的光纤,其中所述第二包层包括针对二氧化硅玻璃的改性剂,从而将所述第二包层的折射率降低至小于所述第一包层的折射率。

14.根据权利要求1所述的光纤,包括外包层和第二包层,其中所述外包层的有效折射率高于所述第二包层的有效折射率。
15.根据权利要求10所述的光纤,包括外包层,其中所述外包层的有效折射率高于所述第二包层的有效折射率。
16.根据权利要求14所述的光纤,其中,所述第一包层、所述第二包层和所述外包层中的一个或多个包括化学改性剂以保护所述第一包层和所述纤芯免受UV辐射。
17.根据权利要求10所述的光纤,包括外包层,其中所述外包层的有效折射率低于所述第二包层的有效折射率。
