Description

具有改进的终端接收通道装置的电连接器
本发明涉及电连接器技术,更具体地说,涉及一种改进的终端接收通道装置,在减小连接器外壳尺寸的同时仍能保持适当的结构整体性。
一种已知的输入/输出(I/O)电连接器包括一个绝缘外壳,它具有前配连面板和后面板,两面板之间有终端接收空腔。将一组终端安装在空腔中,终端的各个部分,比如阴部,伸入到绝缘外壳的通道,用于与互补配合连接器的阳端相连。通常,终端具有扩大的主体部分,用此部分将终端固定在连接器外壳中。
在其它这类连接器中,可将一组终端部件插入外壳空腔中,每一部件包括围绕一组终端的绝缘套或带。将绝缘套整个模压在这组终端的主体部分周围。比如,可将细长的终端部件并排或“堆积”在外壳空腔中。
在这类连接器中,终端的阴接触部分伸入到缘缘外壳配连部分的通道里,从而使阴接触部分被保护在通道里。将互补配合连接器的阳端插入通道,以便与阴接触部分相连。该绝缘外壳通常是一细长的结构,具有一些纵行通道,沿外壳的长度方向延伸,用于接收纵行终端或细长的终端部件。这些通道行限定出在外壳长度分向间隔开的横列。因为终端的阴接触部分通常包括终端的扩大部分,必须将通道扩大以容纳阴接触部分,通常,通道的大小决定了整个连接器的尺寸。因为尺寸在许多电路设计中是一关键性问题,容纳终端的扩大阴接触部分常会引起尺寸设计上的问题。简单地将外壳中的通道靠近在一起或以一小的间距常常不是解决办法,因为这样通道之间的外壳壁要做得很薄,不能胜任结构支撑的要求,同时也使外壳很难模压。
本发明通过提供一改进的终端接收通道结构,具体地说,一种用于容纳特定终端的阴接触部分的通道装置,来解决上面讨论的问题。再有,本发明还涉及用于容纳带有阴接触部分终端的一种改进的通道结构,该阴接触部分是由在终端叶片部分的相对侧上偏移的一双间隔开的悬臂弹簧限定的。
因此,本发明的目的是要提供一种具有新的改进的终端接收通道结构或装置的电连接器。
在本发明的实施例中,连接器包括一个绝缘外壳,具有用于安装一组终端的装置。每个终端包括一个叶片部分,端接在由一双间隔开的悬臂弹簧构成的末接触端,该悬臂弹簧带有在其间限定出的导体接收口的相对接触部分。该弹簧臂悬挂在叶片部分的相对边缘并在叶片部分的相对侧上偏移。在外壳中设有一组通道,叶片部分伸入其中。每个通道包括相对的侧壁,总体平行于通道中各自终端的叶片部分。每个侧壁包括一个横向朝外偏移部分,以容纳在终端的末接触端上的一个偏移弹簧臂。
更具体地说,通道总体呈矩形,每个通道各侧臂的横向朝外偏移部分分别与该通道在一对角线方向的一对角部的一个角部邻接,每个通道另一对角线方向的一对角部分别向内朝着终端的叶片部分倾斜一个角度或向内朝着终端的叶片部分凹进。至少将一些通道在外壳中安置成行,行中一个通道侧壁的相对偏移部分邻接该行中邻近通道的相对侧壁。每个侧壁的横向朝外偏移部分沿侧壁长度方向的延伸最好小于侧壁长度的50%。
从下面结合附图的详细描述将会使本发明的其它目的、特征和优点更加清楚。
在权利要求书中所提出的本发明的特征是具有新颖性的。通过下面结合附图的描述将会更好地了解本发明及它的目的和优点。图中相同的标号表示相同的元件。

现详细参考附图,首先看图1-4。本发明的电连接器12包括一个细长的绝缘外壳14和前档板16。外壳14是由塑料等绝缘材料模压的单一整体结构,挡板16是由金属板料制成的单片结构。
该连接器是一输入/输出(I/O)电装置,其中挡板16限定出连接器的一个前配合面板18,外壳14限定出一个后端接面板20。前面板实际上是由挡板的D形护罩22围成的,护罩22围绕着外壳的互补形的向前伸出的罩内配合部分24。一组终端(后文再描述)的尾部26从连接器的后面板20伸出,用于插到印刷电路板上的适当孔中,以便连接板上和/或在孔中的电路。如图1所看到的,挡板16的向后形成的接片28嵌在外壳14的凹槽30中。最后,将挡板16的基板34上的孔32与外壳14中的内螺纹孔36对准,以便装上有适当螺纹的固定件,从而将连接器固定到电路板和/或互补配合的连接器上。
图4表示,连接器12的外壳14包括一纵向空腔38,用于接收一组终端部件40,部件40在该空腔中并排排列。每个部件包括一单片纵向绝缘套42,它被整个模压在一组阴终端46的主体或基底44的周围。每一终端包括一个向前伸出的叶片部分48,以及从主体部分44的反向端延伸的向后伸出的尾部26。叶片部分48伸入外壳14的配连部分24中的通道50里,尾部26伸出外壳空腔38,超出连接器的后端接面板20。
将终端部件40在外壳空腔38中以并排排列内连。具体地说,锁定凸块52从部件的绝缘套42的侧面向外伸出到相邻部件的绝缘套的相对侧面上的互补凹槽中。
现结合图1-4特别是图2和4来参看图5,每个阴终端46的前伸叶片部分48端接在末接触端54,它是由具有其间限定出导体接收口60的相对接触部分58的双间隔开的悬臂弹簧56构成的。实际上,该导体接收口是一经终接收口,用于接收图5中的互补配连终端62。配连的阳终端具有叶片部分64,端接在扭转末接触端66上。阳终端62的叶片部分64一般与阴终端46的叶片部分48是共面的。从图5可以看出,弹簧臂56被悬接在叶片部分48的相对端48a上,并在该叶片部分的相对侧48b上偏移。当把阳终端62的扭转末接触端66插入阴终端36的口60中时,将遇到很小的插入力,直到该扭转末端与阳终端的叶片部分64合并,在其上阴终端的弹簧臂56被分开,偏移地与阳终端的叶片部分64的相对侧面连接。在美国专利No.5,290,181中示出了类似的终端结构,该专利于94年3月1日授权,转让给了本发明的受让人,这里引用作为参考。
现在参看图6和7,图中以放大的视图表示出在外壳14的配连部分24中的一组通道50,其中只有安装在底部左面通道中的一个终端,不会使通道结构的描述混乱。更具体地说,每个通道50总体呈矩形,包括一对相对侧壁50a,总体平行于通道里各个阴终端46的叶片部分48。另外,每一侧壁50a包括一个横向朝外的偏移部分50b,以容纳在阴终端的末接触端54上的一个偏移弹簧臂56。可以看到,各侧壁50a的偏移部分50b分另与该通道在一对角线方向的一对角部的一个角部70邻接。每个通道另一对角线方向的一对角部如50c所示分别向内朝着终端的叶片部分倾斜一个角度。最后,从图6和7中还可看出,通道50的偏移部分50b的延伸小于该通道侧壁50a的长度的50%。
再结合图2参看图6和7。可以看到,将通道50安置成沿长形连接器长度方向的纵行72(图2),即将这组通道安置成总体垂直于该纵行的横行或列74。实际上,通道50的结构容纳了终端46的接触端54,可使通道在连接器的横向更紧密地安置在行74中,同时仍保持通道之间的适当外壳壁支撑。这可使连接器横向尺寸减小。通过图7中通道50的放大视图可了解这一点,其中可以看出,任一通道的偏移部分50b邻近或从该行中相邻通道的非偏移侧壁50a穿过。这样就增加了连接器横向两相邻通道间的任意给出点上的两个通道之间的壁厚。换句话说,如果每一通道的相对侧壁50a位于与偏移部分50b的相一致的位置,则通道之间的壁厚就可减小。最后,在50c处使通道的角部凹进,再进一步将塑料提供在纵行和横行中的相邻通道的角部上,就能进一步提供在这些位置上的外壳的支撑作用。
应了解,本发明还能以其他特定方式实施而不违背其精神和基本特点。以上的实施例只是说明性的而不是限制性的,本发明并不受已描述的细节限制。

Claims (3)

1.一种电连接器(12),包括:
一个绝缘外壳(14),具有用于安装一组终端的装置;
一组终端(46),安装在外壳中,每个终端包括一个叶片部分(48),端接在末接触端(54)上,该末接触端(54)是由一双间隔开的悬臂弹簧(56)构成的,它带有的相对接触部分(58)其间限定出一个导体接收口(60),弹簧臂连接在叶片部分的相对边缘(48a),并在叶片部分的相对侧(48b)上偏移;
在外壳中的一组总体呈矩形的通道(50),叶片部分伸到其中,每个通道包括相对的侧壁(50a),总体平行于在通道中各自终端的叶片部分,每个侧壁包括一个横向朝外的偏移部分(50b),以容纳在终端的末接触端上的一个偏移弹簧臂,每个通道各侧壁的所述横向朝外偏移部分分别与该通道在一对角线方向的一对角部(70)的一个角部邻接,每个通道另一对角线方向的一对角部(50c)分别向内朝着终端的叶片部分倾斜一个角度。
2.如权利要求1所述的电连接器(12),其特征在于,所述通道(50)是一组成行的通道,每个通道各侧壁的偏移部分的延伸小于各自侧壁长度的50%,在一行上的通道侧壁的偏移部分邻近该行中相邻通道的相对侧壁,每个通道另一对角线方向的一对角部(50c)分别向内朝着终端的叶片部分凹进。
3.如权利要求1所述的电连接器(12),其特征在于,所述每个通道另一对角线方向的一对角部(50c)远离通道中各自终端的偏移弹簧臂,该角部向内朝着终端的叶片部分凹进。
