如上所述,本发明的实施方案涉及电子显示器,具体地涉及发光二极管(LED)显示器,诸如有源矩阵有机发光二极管(AMOLED)显示器和微LED(μLED)显示器。特别地,如果LED显示器的刷新率从例如60Hz减小到30Hz甚至更低,则显示器的功耗可减小。显示器的此类可变刷新率(VRR)驱动可使1Hz显示器的驱动功率与60Hz显示器相比节省例如约80%,这可极大地帮助延长具有该显示器的电子设备的电池寿命。此外,VRR驱动还可能不需要在没有主动使用例如手表屏幕时向这些屏幕应用黑屏或关闭显示器。
然而,VRR驱动的使用可伴随有视觉伪影。一种此类副作用是闪烁,观察者可由于显示器在同一刷新率下在同一帧内的亮度变化而感知到闪烁。可对亮度变化的来源进行处理以减少在显示器上生成视觉伪影。一个此类亮度变化来源是存储在显示器像素的存储电容器中的电压通过开关晶体管的泄漏。这种亮度变化可通过选择低漏电开关晶体管(如氧化物薄膜晶体管(TFT),例如铟镓锌氧化物TFT)来解决,以及利用将低温多晶硅(LTPS)与氧化物TFT相结合的堆叠结构来增加利用VRR驱动的显示器的效能来解决。LED显示器中使用LTPS和氧化物TFT两者的组合式TFT结构可被称为具有LTPO结构的显示器像素。
为了保证LED发射遵循在低刷新率与较高刷新率(例如60Hz)下具有相同的开/关响应时间和持续时间,可选择性地以例如由显示器的控制器确定的速率将用于显示器像素的发射控制(EM)信号脉冲化。即使在低刷新率(例如小于60Hz)下显示面板刷新(例如要加载新图像的数据充电时间)减少,仍然会发生EM信号的这种脉冲。
此外,EM信号驱动频率可在各种频率范围内。例如,EM信号驱动频率可在60Hz到较高值例如约180Hz、约240Hz或更高水平的范围内。除此之外和/或另选地,还可例如在使用脉冲宽度调制(PWM)的框架内逐步改变EM信号脉冲的宽度,以进一步以不同的刷新率来调节显示器的亮度。还可以使用附加的开关TFT以使LED放电并且调节LED的放电时间,这使得能够进一步调节VRR指数(例如显示器的平均亮度改变1%或更小)。能够使LED放电的放电信号的频率可以与EM信号的频率相同或者是EM信号的因子。
为了帮助说明,图1中描述了可利用电子显示器12来显示图像帧的计算设备10。如下文将更详细地描述,计算设备10可以是任何合适的计算设备,诸如手持计算设备、平板计算设备、笔记本计算机等。

如上所述,计算设备10可包括电子显示器12,以帮助将视觉表示呈现给一个或多个用户。相应地,电子显示器12可以是各种合适类型中的任一种。例如,在一些实施方案中,电子显示器12可以是LED显示器,诸如AMOLED显示器、μLED、PMOLED显示器等。尽管操作可有所不同,但是不同类型的电子显示器12的一些操作原理可以是相似的。例如,电子显示器12通常可通过基于接收到的图像数据对显示器像素的亮度进行控制来显示图像帧。

如上所述,显示器12可通过至少部分地基于接收到的图像数据对显示器像素40的亮度进行控制来显示图像帧。为了帮助显示图像帧,时序控制器可至少部分地基于图像数据来确定时序数据42并将该时序数据传输到栅极驱动器。例如,在所描绘的实施方案中,时序控制器可被包括在源极驱动器34中。因此,在此类实施方案中,源极驱动器34可接收指示用于显示图像帧的一个或多个显示器像素40的期望亮度的图像数据、分析图像数据以便至少部分地基于图像数据对应于哪些显示器像素40来确定时序数据42,并且将时序数据42传输到栅极驱动器36。至少部分地基于时序数据42,栅极驱动器36可经由栅极线44传输栅极激活信号以激活一行显示器像素40。
被激活后,可通过经由数据线46接收到的图像数据来调节显示器像素40的亮度。在一些实施方案中,源极驱动器34可通过接收图像数据以及图像数据的电压来生成图像数据。然后,源极驱动器34可将图像数据提供给激活的显示器像素40。因此,如图所示,每个显示器像素40可位于栅极线44(例如,扫描线)和数据线46(例如,源极线)的相交处。基于接收到的图像数据,显示器像素40可使用从电源38经由电源线48供给的电力来调节其亮度。
如图所示,每个显示器像素40包括电路开关薄膜晶体管(TFT)50、存储电容器52、LED 54以及驱动TFT 56(由此存储电容器52和LED 54中的每一者被耦接至公共电压Vcom)。然而,可利用显示器像素40的变化来取代图6的显示器像素40。如将在下面更详细地讨论的,可将图7、图8和图13的显示器像素40与显示面板32结合利用,来取代图6的显示器像素40。返回到图6的显示器像素40,为了帮助调节亮度,驱动TFT 56和电路开关TFT 50各自可用作根据向其各自的栅极施加的电压可控地导通和关断的开关器件。在所描绘的实施方案中,电路开关TFT 50的栅极电耦接至栅极线44。因此,当从栅极线44接收到的栅极激活信号大于阈值电压时,电路开关TFT 50可以导通,由此激活显示器像素40,并利用在数据线46处接收到的图像数据对存储电容器52进行充电。
另外,在所描绘的实施方案中,驱动TFT 56的栅极电耦接至存储电容器52。这样,存储电容器52的电压可控制驱动TFT 56的操作。更具体地,在一些实施方案中,驱动TFT 56可在有源区中进行操作,以控制从电源线48流过LED 54的电源电流的量值。换句话说,当栅极电压(例如,存储电容器52的电压)增大到高于阈值电压时,驱动TFT 56可以使可用于传导电力的信道的数量增加,由此使流动到LED 54的电源电流增加。另一方面,当栅极电压减小但仍然高于其阈值电压时,驱动TFT 56可以使可用于传导电力的信道的数量减少,由此使流动到LED 54的电源电流减少。这样,显示器12可控制显示器像素40的亮度。显示器12可类似地控制其他显示器像素40的亮度以显示图像帧。
如上所述,图像数据可包括指示一个或多个显示器像素40的期望亮度的电压。相应地,一个或多个显示器像素40的控制亮度的操作应当至少部分地基于图像数据。在显示器12中,驱动TFT 56可通过控制流入OLED54的供给电流的量值来帮助控制显示器像素40的亮度。另外,可至少部分地基于通过数据线46供给的用于对存储电容器52进行充电的电压来控制流入OLED 54的电源电流的量值。
图6的显示器12还包括控制器58。源极驱动器34可从图像源例如控制器58、处理器18、图形处理单元、显示器流水线等接收图像数据。此外,控制器58通常可控制源极驱动器34和/或电子显示器12的其他部分的操作。为了帮助控制源极驱动器34和/或电子显示器12的其他部分的操作,控制器58可包括控制器处理器60和控制器存储器62。更具体地,控制器处理器60可执行在控制器存储器62中存储的指令和/或处理数据,以控制电子显示器12中的操作。因此,在一些实施方案中,控制器处理器60可被包括在处理器18和/或单独的处理电路中,并且存储器62可被包括在存储器20和/或单独的有形非暂态计算机可读介质中。此外,在一些实施方案中,控制器58可被包括在源极驱动器34中(例如作为时序控制器),或者可被设置为单独的分立电路,与显示器12位于共同的外壳内(或者在与显示器12分离的外壳中)。此外,控制器58可以是数字信号处理器(DSP)、专用集成电路(ASIC)或者其他处理单元。
此外,控制器处理器60可与一个或多个有形非暂态机器可读介质(例如存储器62)进行交互,该机器可读介质存储可由控制器执行的用以执行本文所述的方法和操作的指令。以举例的方式,此类机器可读介质可包括RAM、ROM、EPROM、EEPROM或者下述任何其他介质,所述介质可用于携带或存储机器可执行指令或数据结构形式的所需程序代码,并且可由控制器处理器60访问或者由任何处理器、控制器、专用集成电路或控制器58的其他处理设备访问。
控制器58可接收与显示器12的操作有关的信息,并且可生成可用于控制显示器像素40的操作的输出64。例如,控制器58可接收对显示器12的刷新率的指示,或可接收对显示器12的期望刷新率的指示(例如,将数据完全写入显示器的显示器像素40阵列中的频率)。显示器12的刷新率或显示器12的期望刷新率的指示可以是显示器12的可变刷新率(VRR)中指示显示器12的刷新率从例如60Hz减小到30Hz或甚至更低频率的部分。因此,控制器58可基于对显示器12的VRR的指示来改变其输出64。类似地,例如,如果显示器12的刷新率由控制器58控制,则控制器58可基于(例如从处理器18接收到的)对显示器12的期望VRR的指示来改变自己的输出64。输出64可用于生成例如源极驱动器中的用以控制显示器像素40的控制信号。
为了产生输出64,控制器58可例如将接收到的对显示器12的期望VRR的指示存储在存储器62中。控制器58还可确定显示器12的期望VRR(和/或显示器12的当前VRR)以计算(确定)作为输出64的发射控制(EM)输出,源极驱动器34利用该输出来生成要被输入到显示器的显示器像素40的EM信号。另选地,控制器58可生成要被直接输入到显示器像素40以经由源极驱动器34被传输到显示器像素40的EM信号。可由控制器58确定和生成该EM输出,以将与显示器12的VRR有关的伪影生成选择性地减至最少。
图7示出了可由来自控制器58的输出64(直接地或经由源极驱动器34)控制的显示器像素40的一个实施方案。图7的显示器像素40包括:电路开关TFT 50,其可以是低漏电开关晶体管诸如氧化物TFT(例如铟镓锌氧化物TFT);存储电容器52;LED 54;以及高迁移率TFT 66和68(例如低温多晶硅(LTPS)TFT)堆叠结构,其作为LED 54的驱动TFT。图7中堆叠的高迁移率TFT 66和68与氧化物TFT 50的组合可称为LTPO结构,这使利用此LTPO结构的显示器12能够提高利用VRR驱动时的功效。另外,如图所示,高迁移率TFT 66(作为能够发光的TFT)可接收所述EM信号作为栅极控制信号,因此使控制器58能够直接(或经由扫描驱动器间接地)控制显示器像素40的发光。

有时,当经由以上讨论的VRR驱动生成了用于显示器12的不同刷新率时,在VRR的不同刷新率之间的转变点处可发生显示器12亮度的改变。图9示出曲线图72,该图示出利用LTPS显示器像素40的显示器12的刷新率变化之后LED 54的电流变化。如图所示,显示器12随时间以第一速率(例如60Hz)刷新,如点74所示。LED 54的电流76(例如由于电容器52漏电而)消耗,直到点74处的显示器12的另一刷新为止,这产生了当显示器12以第一速率刷新时LED 54的所示平均电压78。与显示器12的VRR驱动相结合,显示器12的刷新率可在点80处改变,使得显示器12随时间以第二速率(例如30Hz)刷新,如点82所示。LED 54的电流76(例如由于电容器52漏电而)消耗,直到点82处的显示器12的另一刷新为止,这产生了当显示器12以第二速率刷新时LED 54的所示平均电压84。如果显示器的平均亮度变化超过1%(这称为VRR指数),则在点80处平均电压78到平均电压84的变化可引起视觉伪影。
对于LTPO显示器12,使用氧化物TFT 50可使存储在电容器52上的电压的泄漏降至最小程度,从而最大程度地减小了图9所示的效应,这是因为在电容器52上施加恒定电压将使显示器12的LED 54在帧的整个发光期间保持恒定电流和恒定瞬时亮度。然而,尽管具有恒定的瞬时亮度,显示器12的各帧的平均亮度仍然可由于不同的刷新率而变化,并且由于多种原因而使VRR指数降低。例如,可针对显示器12中的每一行显示器像素40将LED 54的发光停用一个或多个行时间(对于小尺寸显示器12,行时间可在30μs至40μs的范围内),以使LED 54初始化并且将显示器像素40编程到适当的灰度级。因此,在1μs的固定时间内,对于显示器12的60Hz刷新率,发光会被停用60次,而对于显示器12的1Hz刷新率,发光仅会被停用一次(也就是说,经由EM信号来停用LED 54的发光通常以与显示器12的刷新率匹配的速率来实现)。此外,相对于较高的刷新率(例如60Hz),较低刷新率(例如30Hz、1Hz等)下LED发光的较少停用将增大各帧的平均电流。图10中示出了以上所讨论的情况。
图10是示出利用VRR驱动的显示器12亮度差的时序图。如图所示,当显示器12利用第一刷新率(例如60Hz)时,数据线46可以第一刷新率传输扫描信号88。类似地,当被传输到显示器像素40的EM信号与显示器12的刷新率匹配时,EM信号90以与扫描信号88的频率相同的频率被脉冲化。这使得生成了用于LTPO显示器12的LED电流92。
同样地,当显示器12利用第二刷新率(例如1Hz)时,数据线46可以第二刷新率传输扫描信号94。类似地,当被传输到显示器像素40的EM信号与显示器12的刷新率匹配时,EM信号96以与扫描信号94的频率相同的频率被脉冲化。这使得生成了用于LTPO显示器的LED电流98。此外,虽然由LED电流92和LED电流98生成的瞬时亮度100相等,但是由于LED电流92中与EM信号90脉冲的低谷对应的“零”值,显示器的平均亮度在以图10的第一刷新率和第二刷新率刷新时并不相等。
此外,尽管具有恒定的瞬时亮度,但显示器12每一帧的平均亮度可以是变化的,这是由于在由EM信号使发光TFT 66和/或70激活与LED 54的激活之间存在延迟(例如LED 54没有立刻开启)。除了在阳极端子处的预期电容或寄生电容之外,LED 54还具有自己的电容,该电容需要由显示器像素40的电流来充电。只有当LED 54的阳极电压超过开启电压时,才开始发光。此外,对于较低的灰度级,电流通常很小(例如在pA的范围内),所以LED 54的阳极充电时间和总响应时间可在毫秒范围内。此外,变化的LED 54响应时间行为会由于变化的灰度级、LED 54堆叠、温度等而不同程度地影响各帧的平均电流,使得亮度响应时间增加。
控制器58可以用于克服上述提到的可导致显示器12的平均亮度在各帧之间变化的潜在问题。例如,如图11的时序图102所示,控制器58可产生输出64,该输出例如通过选择特别确定的用以传输到显示器像素40的EM信号来将LED 54发光的频率与显示器12的刷新率选择性地解除关联。如图所示,当显示器12利用第一刷新率(例如60Hz)时,数据线46可以第一刷新率传输扫描信号88。类似地,控制器58可使EM信号以与显示器12的刷新率匹配的速率被传输到显示器像素40,使得EM信号90以与扫描信号88的频率相同的频率被脉冲化。这使得生成了用于LTPO显示器12的LED电流92。
然而,控制器58还可确定显示器12何时将第二刷新率(例如1Hz)用作显示器12的VRR驱动的一部分,这将使数据线46以第二刷新率传输扫描信号94。当显示器12利用第二刷新率时,控制器58可调节EM信号的传输,使得EM信号104以与第二刷新率不同的频率脉冲化(例如,频率与先前扫描信号88的频率即第一频率相同)。这使得生成了LTPO显示器12的LED电流106,其中由LED电流92和LED电流106生成的瞬时亮度和平均亮度相等,如图11所示。
因此,为了确保LED 54发光例如遵循低刷新率(例如1Hz、30Hz等)与较高刷新率(例如60Hz)下具有相同的开/关响应时间和持续时间,可由控制器58将用于显示器像素的EM信号以确定的速率选择性地脉冲化。即使在低刷新率(例如小于60Hz)下显示面板刷新(例如要加载新图像的数据充电时间)减少,仍然会发生EM信号的这种脉冲。此外,由于大部分功耗与显示器12刷新有关而与LED 54的发光驱动无关,所以使用可由控制器58选择的EM信号可在VRR驱动期间提供恒定的平均电流,同时保留了为VRR驱动作贡献的功耗益处。
此外,控制器58可使EM信号与图11所示的信号不同。控制器可使EM信号以大于显示器12刷新率的频率(例如120Hz、240Hz等)脉冲化。此外,控制器58可使EM信号与图11所示的信号在脉冲宽度上不同。例如,如12图中的时序图108所示,控制器58可使EM信号脉冲110的宽度例如在使用脉宽调制(PWM)的框架内逐渐变化,以进一步调节从LED电流112生成的亮度,从而改变显示器12的刷新率。
同样,图13示出了具有另外的开关114的图7的显示器像素40。图13的显示器像素40可用于进一步调节VRR指数。例如,开关114可用于使LED 54放电并调节放电时间,这使得能够更具体地调节VRR指数。实际上,控制器58可生成放电信号作为输出64的一部分,使得放电信号可耦接到开关114的栅极以控制开关114的激活。可由控制器58来选择放电信号的频率。例如,如14图中的时序图116所示,控制器58可使放电信号118以与EM信号104相同的频率被脉冲化。类似地,控制器58可使放电信号118以与EM信号104不同的频率被脉冲化,诸如作为EM信号106的因子(例如倍数或分数)。

1.一种电子设备,包括:
显示器;和
控制器,所述控制器被配置为:
确定所述显示器从第一频率到第二频率的刷新率变化,其中所述第二频率低于所述第一频率;以及
选择性地生成控制信号,所述控制信号被配置为以所述第一频率来控制所述显示器的显示器像素的发光二极管的发光。
2.根据权利要求1所述的电子设备,其中所述控制器被配置为选择性地生成具有与所述第一频率匹配的确定频率的控制信号。
3.根据权利要求1所述的电子设备,其中所述控制器被配置为选择性地生成具有大于所述第一频率的确定频率的控制信号。
4.根据权利要求1所述的电子设备,其中所述控制器被配置为选择性地生成包括可变宽度脉冲控制信号的控制信号。
5.根据权利要求1所述的电子设备,其中所述控制器被配置为选择性地激活所述显示器像素中的开关以使所述显示器像素的发光二极管(LED)放电。
6.根据权利要求5所述的电子设备,其中所述控制器被配置为选择性地激活所述显示器像素中的开关来以与所述控制信号共同的频率使所述显示器像素的所述LED放电。
7.根据权利要求5所述的电子设备,其中所述控制器被配置为选择性地激活所述显示器像素中的开关来以所述控制信号的倍数的频率使所述显示器像素的所述LED放电。
8.根据权利要求5所述的电子设备,其中所述控制器被配置为选择性地激活所述显示器像素中的开关来以小于所述控制信号的频率使所述显示器像素的所述LED放电。
9.根据权利要求1所述的电子设备,其中所述显示器包括所述显示器像素,其中所述显示器像素包括被配置为由所述控制信号控制的开关。
10.根据权利要求1所述的电子设备,其中所述显示器包括有源矩阵有机发光二极管(AMOLED)显示器。
11.一种方法,包括:
经由处理器将电子设备的显示器的刷新率频率从第一频率改变到第二频率,其中所述第二频率低于所述第一频率;
经由所述处理器生成所述第一频率下的控制信号;以及
从所述处理器将所述控制信号传输为所述显示器的显示器像素的晶体管的栅极控制信号,以控制所述显示器像素的发光。
12.根据权利要求11所述的方法,包括生成具有与所述显示器的先前刷新率相同的频率的控制信号。
13.根据权利要求12所述的方法,包括选择性地生成所述刷新率频率下的扫描信号并将所述扫描信号传输到所述显示器像素的第二晶体管。
14.一种显示器,包括:
显示器像素;和
扫描控制器,其中所述扫描控制器被配置为传输第一频率下的扫描信号以控制所述显示器像素的刷新率,其中所述扫描控制器被配置为传输第二频率下的发射信号以控制所述显示器像素的发光。
15.根据权利要求14所述的显示器,其中所述扫描控制器被配置为传输与所述扫描信号的先前频率匹配的所述第二频率下的所述发射信号。
16.根据权利要求14所述的显示器,其中所述扫描控制器被配置为基于发射控制输出来生成所述发射信号,所述发射控制输出基于希望的刷新率来确定。
17.根据权利要求14所述的显示器,其中所述显示器像素包括低漏电开关晶体管。
18.根据权利要求17所述的显示器,其中所述显示器像素包括高迁移率薄膜晶体管的堆叠结构。
19.根据权利要求18所述的显示器,其中所述显示器像素包括发光二极管和开关,所述开关被配置为使所述发光二极管放电以及调节所述发光二极管的放电时间。
20.一种控制器,所述控制器被配置为:
接收对显示器从第一频率到第二频率的刷新率频率变化的指示;
基于所述第一频率来控制所述显示器的显示器像素的发光;以及
以所述第二频率来控制所述显示器像素的刷新率。
21.根据权利要求20所述的控制器,其中所述控制器被配置为控制扫描驱动器,以使所述扫描驱动器生成所述第一频率下的发射信号,以传输到显示面板来控制所述显示器像素的发光。
22.根据权利要求20所述的控制器,其中所述控制器被配置为控制扫描驱动器,以使所述扫描驱动器生成所述第二频率下的扫描信号,以传输到显示面板来控制所述显示器像素的刷新率。
23.一种方法,包括:
接收对显示器从第一频率到第二频率的刷新率频率变化的指示,其中所述第二频率低于所述第一频率;以及
生成控制信号,所述控制信号被配置为基于所述第一频率来控制所述显示器的显示器像素的发光,其中所述控制信号的频率是所述第一频率并且包括第一信号脉冲和第二信号脉冲,并且其中所述第一信号脉冲的第一宽度大于所述第二信号脉冲的第二宽度。
