消防人员和其它常在火焰环境下工作的人员则使用防火布和防火织物,如外套、盖毯和其它服装。已知的防火织物通常是由自熄聚合物纤维,如NomexTM芳酰胺纤维制做。
目前保护织物及防护服装中使用的材料存在着某些缺陷。防切割服装一般是不舒服。它要用大量防切割纤维,这既费钱,又使布的舒适感变差。如果能得到一种防切割性能更强的纤维,则会制成防切割纤维含量少得多的防切割布。同样也希望提供一种阻燃的防切割纤维。

每一聚合物以平均至少含约25个链单元为宜,至少约50个单元更好,最好是至少约100个单元。硬质AA/BB-PBZ聚合物在甲磺酸中于25℃下的特性粘度至少为约10分升/克较好,至少为约15分升/克更好,最好是至少为约20分升/克。就某些目的而言,特性粘度至少为约25分升/克或30分升/克最好。特性粘度还可以达到60分升/克或更高,但以不超过40分升/克为宜。半刚性AB-PBZ聚合物的特性粘度至少为约5分升/克较好,至少为约10分升/克更好,最好是至少为约15分升/克。
聚合物或共聚物溶于溶剂中即形成溶液或粘液。一些聚苯并恶唑和聚苯并噻唑聚合物可溶于甲酚,但溶剂以能溶解该聚合物的酸为宜。该酸以无氧化性为宜。适用酸的例子包括多磷酸,甲磺酸和硫酸及这些酸的混合物。该酸以多磷酸和/或甲磺酸为宜,多磷酸更好。对纤维进行选择则要使其性能在与酸接触时不降解。
粘液则应含有足够高浓度的聚合物,以使聚合物能凝结形成固体制品。当聚合物为刚性或半刚性时,粘液中的聚合物浓度应足够高至能形成一种液晶粘液为宜。聚合物的浓度至少为约7%(重量)为宜,至少为约10%(重量)更好,至少为约14%(重量)最佳。最大浓度主要由聚合物溶解度和粘液粘度等实际因素所限制。聚合物浓度几乎不超过30%(重量),一般不超过约20%(重量)。

按已知干法喷湿纺丝工艺将该粘液喷丝制成纤维,在该法中,经喷丝头牵引该粘液,穿过一空气隙缝,进入凝结浴。在下列文件中对纤维纺丝和凝结工艺做了更详细的说明:Tan,U.S.Patent  4,263,245(April  21,1981);Wolfe  et  al.,US  Patent  4,533,693(August  6,1985);and  Adams  et  al.,The  Materials  Science  andEngineering  of  Rigid  Rod  Polymers,247-49  and  259-60(Materials  Research  Society  1989)。每一纤维的平均直径不大于约50微米为宜,不大于约25微米更佳。纤维的最低直径受实际喷丝能力限制。平均纤维直径几乎不小于约1微米,一般至少约7微米。长丝旦数越小,所需技术要求越高,成本也越高。纤维的平均抗拉强度至少为约1GPa较好,至少约1.75GPa更好,至少约2.75GPa,最好至少约4.10GPa。
该纤维可加热处理,但以不处理宜。热处理一般使纤维的劲度增加,布匹一般不希望劲度过大。
制造织物之前,常将纤维集束成纱线。纱线既可由常产纤维制成,又可由连续长丝制成。以常产纤维制纱时,纤维应分切或拉断成短节,如约1英寸至6英寸长。按一般的纺丝制纱工艺将此短节喷丝制成适合于进一步加工的纱线。连续长丝纱线则含有许多按已知方式结合在一起的连续长丝,如绞扭合股,缠结成罩面。一般合股纱线的制作是每英寸绞扭1次或两次,但也可绞扭较多次或更少次。
纱线的最佳旦数取决于具体用途及织物的价格。在大多数场合下,纱线至少约50旦为宜,至少约200旦更好,至少约500旦最佳;而纱线至多约2000旦为宜至多约1500旦更佳,不超过约1000旦最好。
优选作用编织油如编织机油润滑纱线。可按已知方法如编织、纺织等将纱线制成织物或布制品,或制成无纺织物。例如,可在用于编织其它高强度纤维如芳酰胺纤维的常规编织设备上编织此纱线。此聚吲哚纤维纱线可能耐切割性太高,不适宜标准工业设备上的切割工具。可能必须改进切割设备或手工切割。编织工艺在本领域是众所周知的。例如,可如Byrnes,US  Patent  3,883,898(May  20,1975)and/or  Byrnes,US  Patent  3,953,893(May  4,1976)等中所述的编织类别将其中的芳酰胺纤维改用含聚吲哚纤维进行编织。
纺织成平布的纱线可按已知工艺剪切并缝制成服装。
还可有多种变化形式。例如,含聚吲哚纤维可含有一种在粘液中与聚吲哚聚合物一起溶解并喷丝和凝结制成混合纤维的聚苯并恶唑聚合物、聚苯并噻唑聚合物和另一聚合物(如聚芳醚酮)的混合物。同样,聚吲哚聚合物还可以是聚吲哚与另一聚合物,如与聚酰胺或聚芳醚酮的无规共聚物或嵌段共聚物,具体论述见Harris  et  al.,PCT  Publication  WO  90/03995(published  April19,1990)/
含聚吲哚纤维或纱线可以是部分复合纤维,这样则以复合纤维编织或纺织成布匹或织物。复合纤维通常包括一种或多种纤芯,包绕有一种或多种包绕纤维。本发明使用的含聚吲哚纤维可用作纤芯或包绕纤维,或既作纤芯,又作包绕纤维。但以仅用作纤芯为宜。该复合纤维的芯材宜含有至少一种防切割纤维,如含聚吲哚纤维、芳酰胺纤维(如KevlarTM纤维)、胶丝聚乙烯纤维(如SpectraTM纤维)、玻璃纤维或Steel纤维。可主要由含聚吲哚纤维构成,但更好是还含有芳酰胺纤维(如KevlarTM纤维)、胶丝聚乙烯纤维(如SpectraTM纤维)、玻璃纤维或Steel纤维以及聚吲哚纤维。纤芯最好既含有聚吲哚的纤维,又含Steel纤维。纤芯纤维是沿轴向配置的,即基本沿纤维的主轴方向。当纤芯包括不只一种纤维时,这些纤维可以是平行的,或一种或多种纤芯纤维包绕有一种或多种纤芯纤维。整个纤芯则由包绕纤维所缠绕。
包绕纤维优选为较常见的包绕纤维,如棉、聚酯、尼龙或人造丝。该纤芯优选包绕两次,顺时针一次,逆时针一次,以使两次包绕的张力至少部分不相重合,以避免扭曲。包绕纤维与纤芯的最佳比值取决于布材的用途。该复合纤维可含1-99%包绕纤维,一般至少含约30%包绕纤维,优选含至少约50%包绕纤维。在大多数场合,复合纤维优选含不超过约95%的包绕纤维,含不超过约90%更佳。所有百分比均按重量计。
含聚吲哚聚合物的纤维、复合纤维或纱线可进行编织或纺织,或可本身制成无纺织物,或可与其它纤维或纱线一起编织或纺织,或制成无纺织物。例如,含聚吲哚的纤维或纱线可与常规的制布纤维如棉、聚酯、尼龙或人造丝一起纺织,制成与全由常规纤维纺织的布匹相比防切割性更好,而与全由含聚吲哚纤维或纱线纺织的布匹相比感觉更舒适的纺布。
下列美国专利介绍了含混合或复合纤维和/或两种类型纺织在一起的纤维的布材和/或织物;Byrnes,U.S.Patent  4,004,295(January  25,1977)Byrnes  et  al.,U.S.Patent  4,384,449(May  24,1983);Bettcher,U.S.Patent4,470,251(September  11,1984);Kolmes,U.S.Patent  4,777,789(October18,1988);Kolmes,U.S  Patent  4,838,017(June  13,1989);Giesick,U.S.Patent  Patent  4,856,110(August  15,1989),Robins,U.S.Patent  4,912,781(April  3,1990);Warner,U.S  Patent  4,918,912(April  24,1990)and  Kolmes,Patent  4,936,085(June  26,1990)。含聚吲哚纤维和纱线可在类似的织物中一起使用,或代替芳酰胺纤维和其它上述专利所述防切割纤维,制成本发明的织物或布材。
此含聚吲哚纤维或纱线几乎可制成任何类型的布材,供面临火烧或锋利物体伤害可能的人员使用。本发明范围的布制品可包括,例如,手套、皮鞋垫、牧人皮套裤、或其它护腿、外衣、工作服或连衣工作服,外套(如消防人员外衣)、消防毯、运动套服、空军驾驶员战斗服或宇航员加压服。
应适当选择布材中聚吲哚聚合物和含聚吲哚纤维的百分比,以提供适合于该布材最终用途的性能。应选择该聚合物来提供合适的防切割性和防火性。在一般条件下上述推荐聚合物都有相当的防切割性和防火性。推荐的聚合物在急剧加热时碳化,但不起燃或冒烟。
在阻燃布材中,其它纤维的用量应保持足够低的水平,以保证布材基本阻燃或自熄性。最佳百分比大致取决于聚吲哚聚合物、布材中其它纤维的类型和预期的使用条件。阻燃布最好至少能满足一种下列阻燃性能试验:ASTM  D-5903,ASTM  D-4108-82,NFPA  1973和/或NFPA1971。
在防切割布材中,聚吲哚纤维的用量应足够高,以使布材具有比用常规制布纤维高得多的防切割性能。其最佳百分比大致取决于聚吲哚聚合物、布材中其它纤维的类型和对防切割性及舒适性的相对要求。含最优选聚吲哚聚合物和常规制布纤维的布材优选含有至少约10%(重量)的防切割纤维,至少含约20%(重量)更好。该布材可含高达100%的聚吲哚纤维,如果按Boone  US  Patent  4,864,852(September  12,1989)中所述方法测试布材的防切割性能,则优选该布材的防切割性能至少与含皮革者(约2-3次切割)相等,更优选至少与含芳酰胺者(约170次切割)者相等,最好是高于含芳酰胺纤维者(至少约250次切割)。
现以下列实施例对本发明做更充分的论述。这些实施例仅用来说明本发明,而无限制本申请说明书,抑或权利要求书的范围之意。除另外说明,所有份数及百分数均以重量计。
实施例1:连续长丝PBO纱线的制备及由其制作的手套:
由多磷酸中含约14%(重量)的刚性棒顺式-聚苯并恶唑聚合物的粘液按常规方法喷丝仿制成大量纤维。在约30℃下在甲磺酸中测定该聚合物的特性粘度介于约30分升/克和40分升/克之间。该纤维的平均抗拉强度至少为约550,000Psi(3.8GPa),平均厚度为10-25微米。
将该纤维制成平均厚度约1100旦的连续长丝纱线。向长丝束加轻质编织油润滑剂。在有5-英寸环的Leesona  ring  twister上以每英寸1.5转的程度绞扭成纱线。使用为编织芳酰胺手套而设计的Shimi  Shiki平床编织机编织该绞扭合股纱线,制成线编手套。聚苯并恶唑纱线的防切割性能太强,所用切割机无法将手套的手指与手掌切开,而必须手工切割。得到的手套对砍切有很强的耐受性能。
使用一台BetatecTM切割试验机测试手套的防切割性能。加重135克的新刀片以每分钟40刀的规定速度切割一段织物,直至切过织物(由与一电导体接触来确定)。每组试验更换一次刀片。试验结果标定为对织物纤维所加重量。试验结果记于表1中。使用KevlarTM29芳酰胺纤维制的同样手套和由SpectraTM900聚乙烯纤维制得的手套重复以上试验进行对比。

实施例2:复合纤维的制备及由此制作的手套
如实施例1所述制作绞扭合股纱线。在纱线中加进三组分双包绕复合纤维(组分如表2所示)。如实施例1所述纺织每一纤维制成线编手套。每一手套均相当耐切割。

Claims (20)

1、一种保护布,含有许多包括聚苯并恶唑聚合物或共聚物或聚苯并噻唑聚合物或共聚物的纤维。
2、根据权利要求1所述的保护布,其中的布为下列任一形式的布制品:
(a)手套,
(b)皮鞋垫,
(c)牧人皮套裤或其它护腿,
(d)外衣
(e)工作服或连衣裤,
(f)外套,
(g)消防毯,
(h)运动套服,
(i)战斗服,或
(j)加压服。
3、根据权利要求1或2任一项所述的保护布,其中的聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑聚合物含有许多由下式表示的重复单元:

式中,Ar表示芳基;
Z独立为氧或硫原子;和
每一唑环中的氮原子和Z基与芳基中的相邻碳原子键接,从而形成一与芳基稠合的五元唑环。
4、根据权利要求3所述的保护布,其中聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑聚合物的重复单元由下式表示:

5、根据权利要求1或2任一项所述的保护布,其中聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑聚合物含有许多下式1(b)所示重复单元:
式中Ar1表示芳基;
Z独立为氧或硫原子;
DM独立为-键或不妨碍聚合物合成、加工或使用的二价有机基团;
每一唑环中的氮原子和乙基与芳基中的相邻碳原子键接,从而形成一与芳基稠合的五元唑环;和
重复单元中的唑环彼此可以是顺式或反式位置。
6、根据权利要求5所述的保护布,聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑聚合物中的重复单元由下式表示:

7、根据权利要求1-6任一项所述的保护布,该布不含聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑纤维以外的纤维。
8、根据权利要求1-6任一项所述的保护布,该布包括一种纱线,该纱线含有用含第二种纤维的纱线纺织的聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑纤维。
9、根据权利要求1-6任一项所述的保护布,其中的聚吲哚纤维是复合纤维中包绕部分的一部分。
10、根据权利要求1-6任一项所述的保护布,其中的聚吲哚纤维是复合纤维中纤芯部分的一部分。
11、根据上述权利要求任一项所述的保护布,该布满足ASTM  D-5903关于阻燃性的试验标准。
12、根据上述任一项权利要求的保护布,其中聚吲哚纤维的平均抗拉强度至少为约1.75GPa。
13、一种保护人身或物体免遭火焰或锋利物体伤害的方法,其中是在所要保护的人员或物体与火焰或锋利物体之间隔一织物,其特征在于,该织物包括许多聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑聚合物纤维。
14、根据权利要求13所述的方法,其中的聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑聚合物含有由下式表示的重复单元:

15、一种复合纤维,包括:
(1)含一种或多种基本平行的纤维的纤芯;和
(2)至少一种缠绕该纤芯的包绕纤维,
其特征在于,包绕纤维或纤芯有聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑纤维。
16、根据权利要求15所述的复合纤维,其中的纤芯含有聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑纤维。
17、根据权利要求16所述的复合纤维,其中纤芯还含有芳酰胺纤维,胶丝聚乙烯纤维、玻璃纤维或Steel纤维中任一种。
18、根据权利要求15-17任一项所述的复合纤维,其中缠绕纤芯的包括聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑聚合物或共聚物纤维。
19、根据权利要求15-18任一项所述的复合纤维,其中缠绕纤芯的包括棉纤维、聚酯、尼龙或人造丝。
20、根据权利要求15-19任一项所述的复合纤维,其中的聚苯并恶唑或聚苯并噻唑聚合物或共聚物含有下式表示的重复单元:
