Abstract

Description
本发明涉及用于在一种环境中测量湿度的传感器,特别是涉及使用对于湿度变化敏感的光纤环境中检测湿度变化的方法及其装置。
在例如化学工艺控制、污染监测、机器人学、化学战媒介物检测中所用的宽范围系统传感器是关键部件。为了适应这样一些系统的扩展,传感器技术也随之发展,特别是那些灵敏度高、响应速度快、尺寸小和价格低的传感器获得了很大发展。现已表明,由六甲基二甲硅醚和氨的混合物沉积的等离子体聚合薄膜用作为传感器膜片,以检测各种氧化气体和湿度。这种薄膜的传感器表现出以各种下两种特性:即该等离子体聚合薄膜的表面电阻随着相对湿度的增加而逐渐减小;並且这种湿度效应是可逆的。在一个这样的薄膜湿敏检测器中,具有一个读出的导电率读数。当相对湿度从0变到92%时,表面电阻从1018变到1010。可以看出,在这样的仪器中稳定的读数之间的变化是很快的。
然而,存在有许多需要测量湿度但导电率测量不实际的应用场合,例如在纸和油绝缘的电力变压器中对湿度控制的应用场合,由于湿度与工作情况和各种周围条件有关,因此变压器油的湿度量级是很可观的。现在,湿度是由工作着的变压器取得的分批取样值来决定的,而在线监测油的湿度能使产生的湿度控制在所要求的极限值之内。另一种引入注意的应用是将光纤湿度传感器用于冷氢发生器中,一种在线的湿度传感器能发出气体干燥器失灵或排气和/或周围空气渗漏的信号。
人们已经对各种光纤传感器进行了详尽的研究,在S.M.Angel的题为“Optrodes:Chemically Selective Fiber-Optic Sensors”的文章中已经公开了各种化学选择性的光纤传感器(Optrodes),该文刊登在1987年4月Spectroscopy,Vo1.2,No.4,PP.38~48。在其它的优点中,业已发现光纤传感器一般对电干扰不敏感。已经描述了利用多种光学现象的光纤化学传感器,这些光学现象包括通过在两根光纤端部之间的缝隙的吸收;通过一根光纤传输的和由同一光纤收集的光激发的荧光特性;通过观测发射光或反射光来观测光纤末端的基片对光的吸收情况,以及很多其他的光学现象。当前特别令人感兴趣的技术秘密是光纤表面的渐逝光波的衰减问题。因此,通过光纤经多次内部反射传播的光受到周围媒介吸收谱的调制。利用这种技术的传感器已经用于检测指示染料的颜色变化,该指示染料固定在包在光纤芯上的塑料上响应于浸没光纤探头的溶液中的PH变化来进行检测。
本发明的主要目的是提供一种检测给定环境的湿度的光纤传感器。
基于这个目的,本发明属于包括以下部件的一种光纤湿度传感器:一个光纤装置用以提供经该光纤传送的光;和用以检测被传输光的变化的装置,其特征在于上述光纤的包层能够改变该光纤的光传输特性,而这一特性是该包层所暴露的环境中湿度条件的函数。
该光纤芯的直径一般是100至1000微米(μm)、其长度为10至100厘米(Cm)。更具体地说,包层的厚度在1至10μm范围以内。
通过阅读以下仅做为例子的,由其各个附图所表示的一个优选实施例的描述,将会对本发明更加了解。
图1是用以说明光纤湿度探头工作原理的一个光学系统的示意图;

本发明涉及一种光纤湿度传感器,该传感器包括一根光纤,该光纤包敷一层聚合物的包层,该包层能够改变光纤的光传输特性,这一特性是该包层所暴露环境的湿度条件的函数。根据本发明,业已发现该聚合物的包层最好是由六甲基二甲硅醚与氨的混合物在光纤芯上沉积的一种等离子体聚合薄膜。该光纤芯可以采取有利于光纤连接的一般已知的任何形式,然而,为了实现本发明的目的,纤维芯最好直径接近100至1000μm,长度近于10至100Cm,另外,聚合物包层的厚度最好约为1至10μm。
等离子体聚合的工艺和装置一般是公知的。例如在以下出版物中描述了这样的工艺:

完成这个反应之后,旋转石英棒,以使未被复盖侧暴露于等离子之中,在表1的条件下再进行等离子体聚合5小时。由此得出的包层厚度估计为1至2μm,但这个厚度沿棒长是不均匀的。
由此制成的棒放在构成测试装置12的一部分的流管10中,这里通过测试装置12来说明本发明的结构原理。图1中示意性地表示这个测试装置,由图1可以看出该装置包括一个灯光系统14、一个单色仪16、一个发光电二极管18和一个光度计20。在图1中被包敷的石英棒的编号是11。
灯光系统14包括一个克拉托斯(Kratos)(斯科菲尔仪器公司Schoeffel Instruments)1000W汞/氙弧光灯系统,该系统包括一个灯泡22、一个反射镜24和一个聚光镜系统26。
在图1中用虚线28表示的由灯光系统14发出的光,通过单色仪16,该单色仪包括一个具有波长扫描附件的高光强光栅单色仪。
从单色仪16的狭缝输出的光直接进入安装在流管10中的石英棒11的输入端11a,测头11的输出端11b直接接入光电二极管18的外壳,该光电二极管包含一个光电倍增管。光电二极管18中的光电倍增管的高压是由光度计20提供的(Pacific Precision Instruments,model 110)。该光度计20还能将光电倍增管的电流输出转换成为电压。可用利用数字式示波器(Nicolet,model4094)来收集实验数据,光电倍增器的输出可以以时间的函数或光谱较长的方式进行监视。
流管10的详细结构可参见图2。图2表示流管的输出端,其实两端基本上一样的。流管10包括一个细长空心管体30,例如该管体30可以由6.3mm不锈钢管制成。在该管体的两端部都提供有T形接头32,一段软管34通过接口36和接口适配器38与T型接头32相连。如图2所示,适配器40也与接头32相接,以为测头11的末端11b从流管中出去提供通路。流管10的入口端的结构基本上与图2所示的结构相同,也包括一个T形接头42,如图1所示。
为了说明起见,流管10供以正常的干燥空气。该空气为了光纤测头11测试的目的交替地通入一个水浴室以提供经测算约80%相对湿度的潮湿空气,或在该浴室周围旁路,提供一个干燥环境的空气。其测试结果表示在图4、5、6中。
图4表示在500<λ<830nm的光谱范围内的四条光谱扫描的结果。这些扫描测试是由在干与湿之间交替变更(次序为干、湿、干、湿)的流管10中的空气所作的。光谱中的窄带特性是灯的发射线谱,实际上,这是因为该装置是单束光谱仪的缘故。这些陡变的线谱对于内部波长的确认是很有用的。干(下部轨迹A)与湿(上部轨迹B)之间的垂直移动是人们感兴趣的特性。由传感器棒上包层对光吸收得越多将造成在输出端处传输的光就越少,从而在光度计输出端的电压也就越小,因此干燥的薄膜要比潮湿的薄膜吸收能力更强。当波长由500nm增加到800nm以上时,信号的全面下降主要是由于光电倍增管的总的效率降低所造成的,从理论上说,对于这样长波长的观测,硅光电二极管更为合适。
在从干到湿以后,再反过来变化,在同一条件下收集的光谱的一致性表明了潮湿效应的确是可逆的,並且是完全可重现的。
图5重现了在干燥(A)和潮湿(B)条件下的光谱並且表示出这两条曲线的比值(C)。该比值说明了可得到的信号(该信号代表了由环境潮湿度的变化而产生对被传输光的强度的调制的程度)在长波长时最大,而当波长λ>700nm时基本上与波长无关,並且持续到λ=820nm。820nm是非常需要的工作波长,因为市场上的光纤在这个波长上具有最小的传输损失,並且通信系统所用的光源和检测器在这个波长上的工作是最佳的。
图6示出了空气从湿到干和从干到湿时的过渡响应。从湿向干过渡是在约20秒内完成的,而从干向湿过渡则要求一段较长的时间,以较慢的速度地恢复到最后的平衡值。
在按比例放大的图6中,由灯泡产生的噪声是相当明显的。用于说明上述测试的克瑞特斯(Kratos)灯有一定的噪声强度输出。另一方面,一个最佳的系统最好使用稳定的光源。图6的B、C线示出了在固定的条件下、以快速扫描速度250μs/分度、平均100次扫描得出的结果。可以观测到大的噪声减小了,並且降低噪声的曲线表明了动态范围,这是用稳定光源和最佳检测系统才能得到的。
使用图1、2所示的简化装置得到的测试结果,产生了图3示意性地表示的光纤湿度传感器,在图中用编号100表示。该传感器100包括一个湿度敏感的光纤探头103,它适于安装在要检测湿度条件变化的环境中;还包括一个发光二极管(或二极管激光器)104,用以提供工作于820nm的稳定光源。光源最好是脉冲或断续的,能够进行同步检测,以减小杂散光源的影响。显然,二极管104还包括用以发射出由光纤102传输的光的装置。
由发光二极管104发射的光被传输到高质量通信级的光纤106,光纤106具有任意的长度,能使感湿光纤102置于离该系统其它部件很远的距离处。还配备一个标准光纤连接器108,以使湿度检测光纤102连接到通信级光纤106上。
湿度检测光纤102最好包括一根标准光纤芯,直径约100~1000μm,长度约为10~100Cm。
湿度检测光纤102的末端110安装一个反射镜,以反射820nm的光,因此经过光耦合器108进入湿度检测光纤102的光由于反射镜端的反射产生两条路径,並且经过耦合器108和光纤106返回到比值检测器112。
根据本发明,湿度检测光纤102最好是一根包敷1~10μm厚的等离子体聚合包层的石英棒。包层最好由六甲基二甲硅醚和氨的混合物通过等离子体聚合沉积在该石英棒的基体上。这样的包层能够检查取决于周围空气湿度高低的颜色的变化。而最大相对变化发生在大于700nm的长波长,特别是,允许在820nm波长上工作,而这个波长经常用于光纤通信系统。这样的光学湿度传感器适合用于检测电噪声环境中(例如变压器和发电机)的湿度量。实验已经表明,这些实验结果已列于图4和图5中,通过在远处的环境中放置一个湿度检测光纤,就能检测该环境的湿度量,这种湿度检测是由产生通过该光纤的光,而后检测通过该光纤传输光的变化,並把该变化作为该环境湿度条件变化的函数来进行的。
在图3中所示的优选实施例中,由发光二极管104发出的这部分光经过分路光纤114分路进入比值检测器112,在那里与传感器102返回的並且通过分路光纤116直接进入比值检测器112的光进行比较。比值检测器112将经过分路光纤114引入的光的光谱强度与湿度传感器102返回的、並且经过分路光纤116进入比值检测器112的光的强度进行简单的比较。很明显,经过分路光纤114进入比值检测器112的光的强度与由传感器102经过分路光纤116返回的光的强度是不同的。
Claims (13)
1、一种光纤湿度传感器(12;100),包括一根光纤(11;102),用以供给要经所述纤维(11、102)传输光的装置(14、16、22、24、26;104);和用以检测在被传输的光的变化的装置(18、20;112),其特征在于所述光纤(11;102)上的包层能够改变该光纤的光学传输特性,该特性作为该包层所暴露的环境的湿度条件的函数。
2、根据权利要求1所述的光纤湿度传感器,其特征在于所述包层是一种聚合物包层。
3、根据权利要求3所述的光纤湿度传感器,其特征在于所述的聚合物包层是一种等离子体聚合物包层。
4、根据权利要求1所述的光纤湿度传感器,其特征在于所述的包层是由六甲基二甲硅醚和氨的等离子体聚合物制成的。
