Abstract

技术领域
本发明一般涉及使用便携式数据终端的数据采集系统,并且具体地涉及一种使用便携式数据终端的数据采集系统中的无线数据通信的系统和方法。
背景技术
近年来,在数据采集装置以及包含数据采集装置的网络的领域中已经取得了显著的进展。
在美国专利第5900613号中,描述了一种具有适合于读取条形码数据的数据采集装置的数据采集装置系统,其中该数据采集装置与本地主机处理器和远程主机处理器进行通信。美国专利第5900613号中的数据采集装置被配置为向远程计算机报告条形码数据以及执行重新编程例程(reprogramming routine)以从远程主机处理器或/和本地主机处理器接收程序数据。

发明内容

具体实施方式
如图1所示,提供了一种包括多个PDT的数据采集系统。可以由例如条形码扫描仪、个人数字助理(PDA)或移动电话来提供PDT。技术人员可以理解其它便携式计算装置都在本发明的范围和精神之内的事实。根据本发明的数据采集系统可以包括一个以上该类型或种类的PDT。
如图1所示,数据采集系统1000可以包括多个网络200、300I、300、400和500。网络200为有线局域网(LAN),网络300和300I为符合IEEE 802.11的无线网络,网络400为在该具体实施例中被示为互联网的IP网络,并且网络500为由数据归档实体管理的远程数据归档网络。数据采集系统1000可以包括多个PDT 100-1、100-2、100-3、100-4、100-5以及接入点(AP)210。AP 210可以用作互连LAN 200与无线网络300I的入口。有线LAN 200还可以包括服务器240和多个诸如个人计算机(PC)250的计算机装置。如文中将更全面描述的,图1的具体说明性实施例中的无线网络300I可以包括AP 210、210’、PDT 100-1和PDT 100-3,而无线网络300可以包括PDT 100-1、100-2、100-4、100-5。数据采集系统1000还可以包括网络200与网络400之间的网关242,以及网络400与网络500之间的网关412。虽然文中指出了不同的“网络”,应当认识到,从OSI模型(图2)的网络层3106观察到的单个网络可以包括多个较低层网络,例如,可看作单个IP网络的网络可以包括多个不同的物理网络。

参照数据采集系统1000的网络的其它方面,网络500可以位于远离网络200的位置,并且可以位于与网络200相距数千英里的位置。例如,网络500可以包括Web服务器410,其可以与不同的数据库420、430通信。网络500可以经由互联网400或诸如公共可访问网络的其它通信路径以及/或者通过诸如网络305的专用网络与网络200通信。包括在数据采集系统1000中的网络可以利用OSI层2桥接和OSI层3网间连接与其它网络互连。
在本发明的一个实施例中,系统1000的AP 210可以符合IEEE802.11、802.11a、802.14、802.11g、802.11e以及802.11i规范之一。数据采集系统1000的每个PDT 100都可以包括无线收发机,该无线收发机可以符合IEEE 802.11、802.11a、802.14、802.11g、802.11e以及802.11i规范之一,并且可以具有相关的唯一互联网协议(IP)地址。
参照AP 210的属性,AP 210可以经由附图所示的有线网络215与服务器240有线连接,并且经由网络400与远程服务器410通信。因此,与AP 210的通信可以提供对存储在服务器240或服务器410上的所有文件和应用程序的访问。AP 210可以被设计以具有大天线212,其增大发送和接收范围以及通过AP 210的数据吞吐量。有线网络215可以由例如以太线缆来提供,以形成网络200的骨干。
还可以以增强的安全特征来实施AP 210。根据一安全特征(例如,有线等效保密(WEP)特征,其中AP 210是符合IEEE 802.11的),AP210可以包括安全模块1424,其可以使得AP 210能够对向网络装置(例如,PDT)发送的MAC帧进行加密,以及对从网络装置(例如,PDT)接收的MAC帧进行解密。根据安全模块1424,AP 210可以检查接收到的MAC帧的控制域以确定安全特征(例如,WEP)是否被使能,如果其被使能,则对接收到的MAC帧进行解密。
在另一个方面,根据本发明的PDT可以能够执行在草案标准的IEEEP802.11族中定义的MP功能性,该IEEE P802.11族包括:IEEE P802.11sD0.01、D1.02和D2.0,对标准IEEE 802.11TM:ESS网状网络.IEEE的草案修订。因此,根据本发明的PDT可以与一个或多个对等PDT建立无线链路,并且将从一个对等PDT接收的MAC帧路由到另一个对等PDT或者路由到AP,使得该MAC帧可以最终到达其在无线网络之内或之外的目的地。
在另一个方面,PDT可以支持符合IEEE 802.11的无线站点服务,包括认证、取消认证、保密和MAC服务数据单元(MSDU)传送。下文中简要描述这些服务中的每一个。
认证:由于无线媒介不具有精确的边界,物理安全措施不能被有效地用于防止对无线网络的未经授权的访问。IEEE 802.11提供了经由认证服务来控制网络访问的能力。所有的无线装置都可以使用该服务来向与它们通信的其它无线装置证实它们的身份。IEEE 802.11支持若干认证处理,但并不要求使用任何特定的认证方案。IEEE 802.11提供了IEEE802.11无线装置之间的链路层认证,例如,共享密钥认证。在共享密钥认证系统中,通过知晓共享秘密加密密钥来证明身份。
取消认证:每当要终止存在的认证时,调用取消认证服务。
保密:任何符合IEEE 802.11的无线装置都可以听到在其无线电范围内的所有IEEE 802.11流量。因此,与已有的有线LAN的单个无线链路的连接(无保密)可能严重地降低该有线LAN的安全等级。为了将无线LAN的功能性带到有线LAN设计中固有的等级,IEEE 802.11提供了对MAC帧的内容进行加密的能力。该功能性是由保密服务来提供的。IEEE802.11指定了可选的保密算法WEP,其被设计为满足“等效于”有线LAN的保密的目标。
在另一个方面,PDT可以进一步支持符合IEEE 802.11的分布式系统服务,包括关联、解除关联、分发、集成和重新关联,并从而用作AP。在下文中简要描述这些服务中的每一个。
关联:为了在无线网络内传送MAC帧,分发服务需要知道给定的无线装置要访问那个AP或入口。该信息可以由关联服务来提供。在允许无线装置经由AP或入口发送MAC帧之前,该无线装置应当首先与AP或入口相关联。在任何给定的时刻,无线装置都可以与不多于一个的AP或入口相关联。AP或入口可以一次与许多个无线装置相关联。
解除关联:每当要终止现有关联时,调用解除关联服务。可以由关联双方中的任一方(无线装置或AP)来调用解除关联服务。
分发:分发服务将无线网络内的MAC帧传送至预定接收方。
集成:如果分发服务确定MAC帧的预定接收方在与产生该MAC帧的无线网络集成的网络上,则将需要经由互连该无线网络与该集成的网络的入口来对该MAC帧进行路由。集成功能负责实现将MAC帧传送至该集成的网络所需的任何事物。
重新关联:关联对于IEEE 802.11装置之间的无转换MAC帧传送是足够的。需要附加功能性以支持装置转换移动性。由重新关联服务来提供附加的所需功能性,该重新关联服务被调用以从一个AP或入口向另一个AP或入口“移动”当前关联。
在另一个方面,根据本发明的PDT 100可以包括通信地连接于MP模块304的PDT模块302,如图3所示。在一个实施例中,PDT模块可以通过有线接口通信地连接于MP模块。在另一个实施例中,PDT模块可以通过例如光接口或射频(RF)接口的无线接口通信地连接于MP模块。技术人员可以理解MP模块与PDT模块之间的接口的其它实施方式也在本发明的范围和精神之内的事实。

在另一个方面,图3的MP模块304可以用作符合IEEE 802.11的MP。因此,由用作MP的PDT形成的无线网络可以提供一组符合IEEE802.11的网状网络服务,包括网状网络的管理和MAC帧的传输。在另一个方面,MP模块304可以包括低功率嵌入式微控制器312,以独立于PDT模块的当前功率管理状态来执行802.11MP功能性。MP模块304可以进一步包括至少一个无线通信接口314。

在另一个方面,由PDT发送和接收的MAC帧可以属于三种I EEE802.11MAC子层消息类型-数据、管理和控制中的一种。经由MAC数据服务路径来处理数据消息。MAC管理消息被用来支持IEEE 802.11服务,并且经由MAC管理服务数据路径来处理。MAC控制消息被用来支持IEEE802.11数据和管理消息的传送。
各MAC帧由图4a所示的以下基本部分构成:
a)MAC报头,其包括帧控制、持续时间、地址和序列控制信息;
b)长度可变帧体,其含有特定于帧类型的信息;
c)帧校验序列(FCS),其含有IEEE 32比特循环冗余码(CRC)。
帧控制域由以下子域构成:协议版本、类型、子类型、向DS、从DS、更多分段、重传、功率管理、更多数据、WEP以及序号。在图4b中示出了帧控制域的格式。
PDT可以根据MAC帧的目的地地址和如下表所示的帧报头的帧控制域来对MAC帧进行路由。

在另一个方面,根据本发明的PDT可以具有用于MP和PDT模块的单个电源(例如,图3中最佳示出的电池320)。在另一个实施例中,MP和PDT模块中的每一个可以具有由独立功率管理方案或单个协调功率管理方案控制的独立电源(例如,多个电池)。例如,在协调功率管理方案的一个实施例中,如果MP模块能量源被耗尽,则PDT模块能量源可以被用来向MP模块供应功率以支持继续的网状网络功能性。在另一个实施例中,如果PDT模块能量源被耗尽,则MP模块能量源可以被用来向PDT供应功率以支持其继续操作。
在另一个方面,根据本发明的PDT可以支持旨在节约能量的功率管理控制。在一个实施例中,在PDT模块可以在其没有工作要处理时转换到休眠状态中的同时,MP模块可以保持操作以提供网状网络路由功能性。如果MP模块所接收到的帧(例如,MAC帧)目的地不是同一PDT的PDT模块,则MP模块可以利用分发或集成服务将该帧路由到其目的地。如果流入帧目的地是同一PDT的PDT模块,则MP模块可以将该帧路由到PDT模块。如果PDT模块处于休眠状态,则MP模块可以通过将该帧发送给PDT模块来使PDT模块退出休眠状态并转换到唤醒状态。
在另一个方面,根据本发明的PDT可以支持以下功率节约特征中的一个或多个:
a)降低信标的频率,例如,通过只以传送流量指示消息(DTIM)间隔发送信标;
b)提供高效功率节约模式通告,例如,通过将功率节约模式的指示包括到信标帧或帧控制域中;
c)允许MP只在实际接收所需的时间部分中被唤醒。
在另一个方面,根据本发明的数据采集系统可以使用MMS服务器,以执行包括应用程序更新和重新加载、装置重新配置和重置等的管理功能。
在一个实施例中,响应于接收到MMS唤醒命令,根据本发明的PDT可以退出休眠状态并转换到唤醒状态。在另一个方面,MMS服务器可以发送命令以立即唤醒参与根据本发明的数据采集系统的所有PDT。
在另一个实施例中,根据本发明的PDT可以没有PDT模块,从而只提供MP模块功能。根据本发明的没有PDT模块的设备将被称为可动态部署MP。为了扩展射频信号覆盖范围或提高网状网络密度和吞吐量,可以在根据本发明的数据采集系统内安装一个或多个可动态部署网状网点。例如,可以在已有无线网络的“盲点”处安装可动态部署网状网点。在另一个实施例中,在永久性网络不存在或不能被安装的情况下,可以使用一个或多个可动态部署网状网点来铺设临时网络。在一个实例中,可以将使用可动态部署网状网点的临时网络部署在需要记录清单的仓库中。在另一个实例中,可以将使用可动态部署网状网点的临时网络部署在医院病房中。在另一个实例中,可以将使用可动态部署网状网点的临时网络部署在军事战斗或实地训练环境中。
根据本发明的可动态部署网状网点可以支持符合IEEE 802.11的无线站点服务,包括认证、取消认证、保密和MAC服务数据单元(MSDU)传送。在另一个方面,根据本发明的可动态部署MP可以进一步支持符合IEEE 802.11的分布式系统服务,包括关联、解除关联、分发、集成和重新关联。
在另一个方面,根据本发明的可动态部署网状网点可以能够执行在草案标准的IEEE P802.11族中定义的网状网点功能性,该IEEE P802.11族包括:IEEE P802.11D0.01、D1.02和D2.0,对标准IEEE 802.11TM:ESS网状网络.IEEE的草案修订。因此,根据本发明的可动态部署网状网点可以与一个或多个无线装置(例如,PDT或其它可动态部署MP)建立无线链路,并且对到来的MAC帧进行路由,使得该MAC帧可以最终到达其在无线网络之内或之外的目的地。在一个方面,可动态部署MP可以基本上没有除了对流入帧进行路由以外的任何非常用功能性。
在另一个方面,可动态部署MP可以利用分发服务将流入帧(例如,MAC帧)路由到同一无线网络之内的接收方,或者利用集成服务将流入帧路由到无线网络之外的接收方。
在图5所示的一个实施例中,PDT 100可以位于AP 202的覆盖范围之外。根据本发明,响应于从PDT 100接收到帧(例如,MAC帧),可动态部署网状网点902a可以将该帧路由到可动态部署网状网点902b,该可动态部署网状网点902b进而可以将该帧路由到AP 202,使得该帧可以最终被路由到服务器240。技术人员可以理解目的地是PDT 100的帧也可以经由可动态部署网状网点902a和902b来进行路由的事实。
在另一个方面,根据本发明的可动态部署MP可以是可自配置的。在被通电启动时,可动态部署网状网点可以自动更新其路由表,自动与无线网络关联,并且开始对流入帧(例如,MAC帧)进行路由。在另一个实施例中,可动态部署网状网点可以是可通过网络进行远程配置的。
在另一个方面,根据本发明的可动态部署网状网点的特征可以在于物理尺寸小、功耗低。在一个实施例中,根据本发明的可动态部署网状网点可以由电池来供电。在另一个实施例中,可将可动态部署MP插入电插座中。
根据本发明的可动态部署MP的特征还可以在于成本低,从而为无线网络覆盖范围和吞吐量的灵活的按需管理提供节省成本的解决方案。
在另一个方面,根据本发明的PDT的部件可以被合并到多种不同的壳体中。如图6a和6b的实施例所示,根据本发明的PDT的部件可以被合并到如图6a和6b所示的被塑造为在人手中保持的手持式壳体101中。图6a和6b的PDT 100为手持便携式数据终端的外形尺寸。如图6a和6b所示的PDT 100可以包括键盘1090、具有相关联的触摸屏覆盖层的显示器504、读卡器1348以及成像模块360,该成像模块360可以包括文中所述成像组件的部件;即,结合到图像传感器IC芯片上的图像传感器阵列。如图6b的侧视图所示,在外壳101内,可以在多个电路板1077上支持根据本发明的PDT的部件。在图7a-7c的实施例中,PDT 100为交易终端的形式,该交易终端可以被配置为零售购买交易终端或对价机。图7a-7c所示的交易终端的壳体102可以被配置为便携式,使得其可以从一处移动到另一处,并且被进一步配置为可替换地安装在固定结构上,比如,收银台的固定结构或零售商店地板的固定结构(例如,架子、柱子264)上。参照图7c的底视图,PDT 100的壳体102可以具有构造268,其有助于在固定结构上可替换地安装PDT 100。PDT 100可以包括具有相关的触摸屏504T的显示器504、读卡器1348以及成像模块360。参照PDT 100的更多细节,PDT 100可以进一步包括发光罩362。当来自发光块(未在图7a、7b、7c中示出)的光照射发光罩362时,该发光罩发光以吸引对成像组件位置的注意。在图8c所示的特定操作模式中,根据图6a-7c中的任意一个的PDT 100在显示器504上显示PIN输入屏幕,其提示顾客将PIN信息输入到触摸屏504T中。在其他操作模式中,如图8d所示,PDT 100在显示器504上显示签名提示屏幕,其提示顾客使用触笔505将签名信息输入到装置中。
参照图8a和8b,示出了用于图6a-7c的数据采集装置的不同安装配置。在图8a的视图中,PDT 100被安装为销售点收银台260处的零售购买交易终端。在图8a的设置中,PDT 100被配置为零售购买交易终端,并且被用来帮助和促进销售点处的零售交易。顾客可将信用卡或借记卡放入读卡机1348中,并且零售购买交易终端100R可以向信用/借记认证网络发送信用卡信息。
在图8b的视图中,PDT 100被配置为对价机以帮助顾客核对商店场地上的产品的价格。PDT 100可以被安装在零售商店的架子或柱子264上,或者其它固定结构上。PDT 100可以对来自商店产品上的条形码的条形码数据进行解码,并且向商店服务器240发送解码的条形码消息以用于查找价格信息,从服务器240向终端100送回该价格信息,以便在显示器504上显示。

其中,所述可动态部署网状网点被进一步配置为,响应于接收到目的地是所述网状网络之内的接收方的媒介存取控制帧,利用所述分发服务传送所述媒介存取控制帧;
其中,所述可动态部署网状网点被进一步配置为,响应于接收到目的地是所述网状网络之外的接收方的媒介存取控制帧,利用所述集成服务传送所述媒介存取控制帧;并且
其中,所述可动态部署网状网点基本上没有除对媒介存取控制帧进行路由以外的任何功能性。
D2.如D1所述的可动态部署网状网点,进一步包括电池。
D3.如D1所述的可动态部署网状网点,其中,所述可动态部署网状网点被配置为插入电插座中。

Claims (10)
1.一种适合于参与包括多个对等便携式数据终端(PDT)的无线网状网络的PDT,所述PDT包括:
包括中央处理器(CPU)、内存以及至少一个编码信息读取(EIR)装置的PDT模块,所述EIR装置被配置为输出与编码消息对应的解码的消息数据;以及
通信地连接于所述PDT模块的网状网点模块,所述网状网点模块包括微控制器和至少一个无线通信接口;
其中,所述网状网点模块被配置为执行符合IEEE 802.11的无线站点服务,以及包括分发和集成的符合IEEE 802.11的无线分布式系统服务;
其中,所述网状网点模块被进一步配置为,响应于接收到目的地是所述网状网络之内的接收方的MAC帧,利用所述分发服务传送所述MAC帧;并且
其中,所述网状网点模块被进一步配置为,响应于接收到目的地是所述网状网络之外的接收方的MAC帧,利用所述集成服务传送所述MAC帧。
2.如权利要求1所述的便携式数据终端,其中,所述PDT模块使用功率管理方案以用于至少在唤醒状态与休眠状态之间控制所述PDT模块的功率管理状态;并且
其中,所述网状网点模块被配置为通过向所述PDT模块发送至少一个帧而使得所述PDT模块退出所述PDT模块休眠状态。
3.如权利要求1所述的便携式数据终端,其中,所述网状网点模块被配置为只以传送业务指示时间(DTIM)间隔发送信标。
4.一种适合于参与包括多个对等便携式数据终端(PDT)的无线网状网络的PDT,所述PDT包括:
包括中央处理器(CPU)、内存以及至少一个编码信息读取(EIR)装置的PDT模块,所述EIR装置被配置为输出与编码消息对应的解码的消息数据;以及
通信地连接于所述PDT模块的网状网点模块,所述网状网点模块包括微控制器和至少一个无线通信接口;
其中,所述网状网点模块被配置为执行符合IEEE 802.11的无线站点服务,以及符合IEEE 802.11的无线分布式系统服务;
其中,所述网状网点模块被进一步配置为,响应于接收到具有包括目的地地址和帧控制域的报头的MAC帧,根据所述目的地地址和所述帧控制域对所述MAC帧进行路由。
5.如权利要求4所述的便携式数据终端,其中,所述PDT模块包括第一电池;
其中,所述网状网点模块包括第二电池;并且
其中,所述第一电池被用来响应于所述第二电池耗尽而为所述网状网点模块供电,从而支持所述网状网点模块的不间断操作。
6.如权利要求4所述的便携式数据终端,其中,所述网状网点模块被配置为只以传送业务指示时间(DTIM)间隔发送信标。
7.一种适合于参与包括多个对等便携式数据终端(PDT)的无线网状网络的PDT,所述PDT包括:
包括中央处理器(CPU)、内存以及至少一个编码信息读取(EIR)装置的PDT模块,所述EIR装置被配置为输出与编码消息对应的解码的消息数据;以及
通信地连接于所述PDT模块的网状网点模块,所述网状网点模块包括微控制器和至少一个无线通信接口;
其中,所述PDT模块被配置为至少在唤醒状态与休眠状态之间控制所述PDT模块的功率管理状态;并且
其中,所述网状网点模块被配置为响应于接收到移动管理软件(MMS)唤醒命令而使得所述PDT模块退出所述休眠状态。
8.如权利要求7所述的便携式数据终端,其中,所述网状网点模块被配置为执行:符合IEEE 802.11的无线站点服务,包括认证、取消认证、保密以及MAC服务数据单元传送;以及符合IEEE 802.11的无线分布式系统服务,包括关联、解除关联、分发、集成和重新关联。
9.一种适合于参与包括多个便携式数据终端的无线网状网络的可动态部署网状网点,所述可动态部署网状网点包括:
微控制器;以及
至少一个无线通信接口;
其中,所述可动态部署网状网点被配置为执行:符合IEEE 802.11的无线站点服务,包括认证、取消认证、保密以及MAC服务数据单元传送;以及符合IEEE 802.11的无线分布式系统服务,包括关联、解除关联、分发、集成和重新关联;
其中,所述可动态部署网状网点被进一步配置为,响应于接收到目的地是所述网状网络之内的接收方的MAC帧,利用所述分发服务传送所述MAC帧;
其中,所述可动态部署网状网点被进一步配置为,响应于接收到目的地是所述网状网络之外的接收方的MAC帧,利用所述集成服务传送所述MAC帧;并且
其中,所述可动态部署网状网点基本上没有除对MAC帧进行路由以外的任何功能。
10.如权利要9所述的可动态部署网状网点,其中,所述可动态部署网状网点被配置为插入电插座中。
