背景技术
作为具有代表性的等离子体显示面板(以下,简称为“面板”)的交流面放电型面板,其中在彼此相对地配置的前面板与背面板之间形成有多个放电单元。
在前面板上,形成有多个由1对扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对、以及覆盖所述显示电极对的电介质层和保护层,所述多个显示电极对相互平行地形成于前面玻璃基板上。在背面板上,在后面玻璃基板上分别形成有多个平行的数据电极、覆盖这些数据电极的电介质层、以及在电介质层上与数据电极平行的多个障壁,并且在电介质层的表面与障壁的侧面形成有荧光体层。

具体而言,例如在多个子场中的1个子场的初始化期间,进行使全部放电单元放电的全单元初始化操作,而在其他子场的初始化期间,进行仅使进行了维持放电的放电单元初始化的选择初始化操作。其结果,使得与显示无关的发光仅是伴随着全单元初始化操作的放电的发光,从而能够实现高对比度的图像显示(例如,参考专利文献1)。
近年来,随着面板的大型化和高清晰度化,一直在进行着通过增加封入面板内的放电气体的氙气分压来提高面板的发光效率的研究。但是,如果增加氙气分压,则会有放电延迟增大等放电变得不稳定的倾向。一旦所述全单元初始化操作变得不稳定,而发生在未产生写入放电的放电单元内产生维持放电的误操作(以下,简称为“误点灯”),则有可能会导致图像显示质量大幅下降。

发明内容
本发明的等离子体显示面板的驱动方法是,具有多个具有由扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对的放电单元的等离子体显示面板的驱动方法,其特征在于:通过配置多个子场来构成1个场期间,所述子场包括在所述放电单元产生初始化放电的初始化期间、在所述放电单元进行写入操作的写入期间、和在进行所述写入操作而产生了写入放电的放电单元产生维持放电的维持期间。并且,在至少1个子场的初始化期间内,对进行图像显示的全部放电单元进行产生初始化操作的全单元初始化操作,并且控制多个子场在各个放电单元内进行写入操作或者不进行写入操作。同时,在全单元初始化操作后,仅当在至少在1个子场内进行了写入操作的情况下,才进行控制使得存在多个在此后的写入期间进行写入操作的规定子场,从而进行灰度显示。并且,在规定子场中的至少1个子场的初始化期间之后,设置对扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间。
根据这样的结构,可以提供通过使初始化放电稳定化而能够进行高质量的图像显示的等离子体显示面板的驱动方法。
进一步,本发明的等离子体显示面板的驱动方法中,也可以在规定子场中最初配置的子场的初始化期间之后,设置对扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间。根据这样的结构,可以稳定初始化放电。
进一步,本发明的等离子体显示面板的驱动方法中,也可以在规定子场中从最初起第2个配置的子场的初始化期间之后,设置对扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间。根据这样的结构,可以通过进一步进行写入操作而使初始化放电更为稳定。
进一步,本发明的等离子体显示装置,具备等离子体显示面板和驱动电路,所述等离子体显示面板具有多个放电单元,所述放电单元具有由扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对的放电单元,所述驱动电路是通过配置多个子场来构成1个场期间,从而驱动所述等离子体显示面板,所述子场包括在所述放电单元产生初始化放电的初始化期间、在所述放电单元进行写入操作的写入期间、和在进行所述写入操作而产生了写入放电的放电单元产生维持放电的维持期间。并且,驱动电路,在至少1个子场的初始化期间内,对进行图像显示的全部放电单元进行产生初始化操作的全单元初始化操作,并控制多个子场在各个放电单元内进行写入操作或不进行写入操作。同时,在全单元初始化操作后,仅当在至少1个子场内进行了写入操作的情况下,进行控制使得存在多个进行写入操作的规定子场,从而进行灰度显示。并且,在规定子场中的至少1个子场的初始化期间之后,对扫描电极施加矩形波形电压作为特征。根据这样的结构,可以提供通过使初始化放电稳定化而能够进行高质量的图像显示的等离子体显示装置。

具体实施方式
以下利用附图,说明本发明实施方式的等离子体显示装置。
(实施方式1)
图1是表示本发明实施方式1的面板10构造的分解立体图。在玻璃制的前面板21上,形成有多个由扫描电极22和维持电极23构成的显示电极对28。并且形成有覆盖扫描电极22和维持电极23的电介质层24,在该电介质层24上形成有保护层25。在背面板31上形成有多个数据电极32,并且形成有覆盖数据电极32的电介质层33,进而在该电介质33上形成有网格状的障壁34。并且,在障壁34的侧面及电介质层33上设置有发出红色(Red,R)、绿色(Green,G)和蓝色(Blue,B)的各色光的荧光体层35。
所述前面板21与背面板31,以夹着微小的放电空间并使显示电极对28与数据电极32交叉的方式而相对地配置,其外周部由玻璃粉等密封材料密封着。并且,在放电空间内例如有氖气和氙气的混合气体作为放电气体被封入。在实施方式1中,为了提高亮度,使用氙气分压为10%的放电气体。放电空间由障壁34分割成多个区,在显示电极对28与数据电极32交叉的部分形成有放电单元。并且,通过这些放电单元的放电、发光来进行图像显示。
另外,面板10的构造并不限定于上述构造,例如也可以具备条状的障壁。
图2是本发明实施方式1的面板10的电极排列图。在面板10上排列有:在行方向上较长的n条扫描电极SC1~SCn(图1的扫描电极22)及n条维持电极SU1~SUn(图1的维持电极23),和在列方向上较长的m条数据电极D1~Dm(图1的数据电极32)。并且,在1对扫描电极SCi(i=1~n)及维持电极SUi与1条数据电极Dj(j=1~m)相交叉的部分形成有放电单元,放电单元在放电空间内形成有m×n个。
图3是用于驱动实施方式1的面板10的驱动电路的电路框图。等离子体显示装置1具备面板10、图像信号处理电路51、数据电极驱动电路52、扫描电极驱动电路53、维持电极驱动电路54、时序产生电路55以及给各电路区块提供所必需的电源的电源电路(未图示)。
图像信号处理电路51将所输入的图像信号sig转换成表示每个子场的发光或非发光的图像数据。数据电极驱动电路52将每个子场的图像数据转换成与各数据电极D1~Dm相对应的信号,并驱动各数据电极D1~Dm。
时序产生电路55,以水平同步信号H、垂直同步信号V为基础,产生各种控制各电路区块的操作的时序信号,并提供给各个电路区块。扫描电极驱动电路53具有用来在初始化期间产生施加至扫描电极SC1~SCn的初始化电压波形的初始化波形产生电路300,其根据时序信号来分别驱动各扫描电极SC1~SCn。维持电极驱动电路54根据时序信号来驱动维持电极SU1~SUn。
其次,说明用于驱动面板10的驱动电压波形及其操作。等离子体显示装置1是利用子场法来进行灰度显示的,即,将1个场期间分割成多个子场,并针对每一子场来控制各放电单元的发光和非发光。各个子场包括初始化期间、写入期间和维持期间。而且,在实施方式1中,在初始化期间与写入期间之间,根据需要具备异常电荷消除期间。
在初始化期间内产生初始化放电,并在各电极上形成接下来的写入放电所必需的壁电荷。此时的初始化操作包括全单元初始化操作以及选择初始化操作。
在异常电荷消除期间内,一旦先进行的全单元初始化期间的初始化操作不稳定,且在任一放电单元的内部蓄积了异常电荷时,消除所述放电单元的异常电荷。
在写入期间,在应该发光的放电单元内选择性地产生写入放电而形成壁电荷。并且在维持期间,对显示电极对28交替施加与亮度权重成正比的数量的维持脉冲,使产生了写入放电的放电单元内产生维持放电而发光。
将实施方式1的子场结构假设为如下而进行说明:将1个场分割成10个子场(第1SF、第2SF、......、第10SF),并且各子场分别具有不同的(1、2、3、6、11、18、30、44、60、80)亮度权重。
图4是表示实施方式1的子场结构的图。在本发明实施方式1中,第1SF是全单元初始化子场,第2SF~第10SF是选择初始化子场。并且,在第3SF中设置有异常电荷消除期间,而其它子场中并未设置异常电荷消除期间。另外,图4是概略表示施加至扫描电极的驱动电压波形的1个场的图。
图5是详细表示在第1SF中施加至面板10的各电极的驱动电压波形图。第1SF是进行全单元初始化操作的子场(以下,简称为“全单元初始化子场”),并且是不具备异常电荷消除期间的子场。
在第1SF的初始化期间前半段,分别对数据电极D1~Dm、维持电极SU1~SUn施加0V,而对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加从针对维持电极SU1~SUn的放电开始电压以下的电压Vi1朝向超过放电开始电压的电压Vi2缓慢上升的倾斜波形电压。
在该倾斜波形电压上升的期间,在扫描电极SC1~SCn和维持电极SU1~SUn、数据电极D1~Dm之间,分别引起微弱的初始化放电。并且,在扫描电极SC1~SCn上蓄积负的壁电压的同时,在数据电极D1~Dm上及维持电极SU1~SUn上蓄积正的壁电压。此处,所谓电极上的壁电压,是指由蓄积在覆盖电极的电介质层上、保护层上、荧光体层上等的壁电荷所产生的电压。
在初始化期间后半段,对维持电极SU1~SUn施加正的电压Ve1,而对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加从针对维持电极SU1~SUn的放电开始电压以下的电压Vi3朝向超过放电开始电压的电压Vi4缓慢下降的倾斜波形电压。在此期间,在扫描电极SC1~SCn和维持电极SU1~SUn、数据电极D1~Dm之间,分别引起微弱的初始化放电。并且,扫描电极SC1~SCn上的负的壁电压及维持电极SU1~SUn上的正的壁电压减弱,数据电极D1~Dm上的正的壁电压被调整为适合写入操作的值。通过以上操作,对全部放电单元进行初始化放电的全单元初始化操作结束。
以上的说明是全单元初始化操作正常进行的情况。但是,当放电延迟变大等放电不稳定时,尽管施加缓慢变化的倾斜波形电压,但在扫描电极SC1~SCn与数据电极D1~Dm之间或者扫描电极SC1~SCn与维持电极SU1~SUn之间仍有可能产生强放电。以下,将这样的强放电简称为“异常初始化放电”。而且,当异常初始化放电在全单元初始化期间的后半段产生的情况下,在扫描电极SC1~SCn上蓄积正的壁电压,在维持电极SU1~SUn上蓄积负的壁电压,在数据电极D1~Dm上也蓄积正或负的壁电压。而且,当异常初始化放电已在全单元初始化期间的前半段产生了的情况下,在全单元初始化期间的后半段仍会再次产生异常初始化放电,其结果使得所述壁电压蓄积在各电极上。由于这些壁电压会阻碍放电单元的正常操作,因此将产生所述壁电压的这些壁电荷,以下称为“异常电荷”。
在接下来的写入期间内,对维持电极SU1~SUn施加电压Ve2,对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加电压Vc。
接着,对第1行的扫描电极SC1施加负的扫描脉冲电压Va的同时,对数据电极D1~Dm中的第1行中应该发光的放电单元的数据电极Dk(k=1~m)施加正的写入脉冲电压Vd。此时,数据电极Dk上和扫描电极SC1上的交叉部的电压差是,外部施加电压之差(Vd-Va)加上数据电极Dk上的壁电压和扫描电极SC1上的壁电压之差的和,并超过放电开始电压。并且,在数据电极Dk和扫描电极SC1之间以及维持电极SU1和扫描电极SC1之间引起写入放电,在扫描电极SC1上蓄积正的壁电压,在维持电极SU1上蓄积负的壁电压,在数据电极Dk上也蓄积负的壁电压。
如此进行在第1行中将应该发光的放电单元内引起写入放电,从而在各电极上进行蓄积壁电压的写入操作。另一方面,由于未施加写入脉冲电压Vd的数据电极D1~Dm和扫描电极SC1的交叉部的电压不超过放电开始电压,因此不会产生写入放电。以上写入操作进行直至第n行的放电单元,写入期间结束。
另外,由于在各电极上具有异常电荷的放电单元中,不具备写入放电所必需的壁电压,因此不会产生正常的写入放电。
在接下来的维持期间内,首先对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加正的维持脉冲电压Vs的同时,对维持电极SU1~SUn施加0V。于是,在引起了写入放电的放电单元中,扫描电极SCi上与维持电极SUi上的电压差是,维持脉冲电压Vs加上扫描电极SCi上的壁电压与维持电极SUi上的壁电压之差的和,其超过放电开始电压。
并且,在扫描电极SCi与维持电极SUi之间引起维持放电,此时所产生的紫外线使荧光体层35发光。并且在扫描电极SCi上蓄积负的壁电压,并在维持电极SUi上蓄积正的壁电压。进而,在数据电极Dk上也蓄积正的壁电压。在写入期间未引起写入放电的放电单元内不产生维持放电,而保持着初始化期间结束时的壁电压。
接着,对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加0V,对维持电极SU1~Sun分别施加维持脉冲电压Vs。于是,在引起了维持放电的放电单元中,维持电极SUi上和扫描电极SCi上的电压差超过放电开始电压,因此,在维持电极SUi与扫描电极SCi之间再次引起维持放电,并在维持电极SUi上蓄积负的壁电压,而在扫描电极SCi上蓄积正的壁电压。以后同样地,对扫描电极SC1~SCn与维持电极SU1~SUn交替施加亮度权重乘以亮度倍率的数量的维持脉冲,并通过对显示电极对28的电极间给予电位差,在写入期间引起了写入放电的放电单元中继续进行维持放电。
并且,在维持期间的最后,对扫描电极SC1~SCn与维持电极SU1~SUn之间给予所谓的窄脉冲状的电压差,在残留数据电极Dk上的正的壁电压的状态下,消除扫描电极SCi上及维持电极SUi上的壁电压。
另外,在具有异常电荷的放电单元的扫描电极SCp(p=1~n)上蓄积有正的壁电压,在维持电极SUp上蓄积有负的壁电压,因此有可能产生维持放电。但是,因为异常电荷的大小并没有大到能够确实地产生维持放电的程度,所以维持放电是偶然产生的。而且,当在最初的子场内未产生维持放电的情况下,有可能会在下一个子场的维持期间内产生维持放电。这样,当对显示电极对28中的一个电极施加维持电压Vs时,异常电荷的放电单元具有经常放电的可能性,但在维持期间内产生维持放电时,则异常电荷的放电单元在接下来的初始化期间内可以正常地进行初始化操作,因此在其后的子场内进行正常的操作。
图6是详细表示在第2SF中施加至面板10的各电极的驱动电压波形图。第2SF是进行选择初始化操作的子场(以下,简称为“选择初始化子场”),并且是不具备异常电荷消除期间的子场。
在进行选择初始化的初始化期间内,对维持电极SU1~SUn施加电压Ve1,分别对数据电极D1~Dm施加0V,而对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加从电压Vi3′朝向电压Vi4缓慢下降的倾斜波形电压。
于是,在前面子场的维持期间内引起了维持放电的放电单元中,产生微弱的初始化放电,扫描电极SCi上及维持电极SUi上的壁电压减弱。而且,对于数据电极Dk而言,通过前一次维持放电而在数据电极Dk上蓄积有充分的正的壁电压,因此,该壁电压的过剩部分会被放电,从而调整成适合写入操作的壁电压。
另一方面,在之前的子场中未引起维持放电的放电单元则不会放电,而一直保持之前的子场的初始化期间结束时的壁电荷。这样,选择初始化操作是,对在前一个子场的维持期间内进行了维持操作的放电单元选择性地进行初始化放电的操作。
接下来的写入期间的操作与全单元初始化子场的写入期间的操作相同,因此省略说明。接下来的维持期间的操作除了维持脉冲的数量不同以外也都相同。
图7是详细表示在第3SF中施加至面板10的各电极的驱动电压波形图。第3SF是选择初始化子场,并且是具备异常电荷消除期间的子场。
初始化期间内的选择初始化操作、写入期间内的写入操作、以及维持期间内的维持操作,均与不具备异常电荷消除期间的选择初始化子场中的各操作相同,因此省略说明。
如图7所示,在第3SF中,设置有对扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间。在异常电荷消除期间内,在将数据电极D1~Dm保持为0V的状态下,对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加电压Vs,对维持电极施加0V。此时,施加至各电极的电压、与在维持期间中对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加最初的维持脉冲电压Vs时相同。如上所述,在未引起写入放电的放电单元内不会产生维持放电,但由于异常电荷消除期间设置在初始化期间之后、写入期间之前,所以在正常的放电单元中,不会在异常电荷消除期间内产生放电。
但是对于具有异常电荷的放电单元而言,由于在扫描电极SC1~SCn上施加着维持电压Vs,所以有可能会产生放电。而且,将对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加维持电压Vs的时间设定得比维持期间内的维持脉冲的持续时间长。因此,具有异常电荷的放电单元在异常电荷消除期间进行放电的概率远远高于通过维持脉冲进行放电的概率,从而能够使大部分具有异常电荷的放电单元在异常电荷消除期间内进行放电。
接着,在将数据电极和维持电极保持为0V的状态下,对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加负的电压Va。于是,具有异常电荷的放电单元再次产生放电并去除异常电荷。因此,其后在维持期间内不会产生维持放电。但是,在异常电荷被去除时,写入操作所必需的壁电荷也会被消除,所以也无法进行写入操作。这样的壁电荷的状态一直持续到接下来进行全单元初始化操作为止。
第4SF~第10SF是进行选择初始化操作的选择初始化子场,并且是不具备异常电荷消除期间的子场,由于除了维持期间的维持脉冲数不同以外,均进行与图6所示的第2SF相同的操作,所以省略说明。
接下来,说明实施方式1的灰度的显示方法。
图8是表示应该显示的灰度与此时有无子场的写入操作的关系的图,“o”表示进行写入操作,“-”表示不进行写入操作。例如,在显示灰度“0”即显示黑色的放电单元中,在第1SF~第10SF的全部子场内不进行写入操作。于是,放电单元根本不进行维持放电,亮度也降到最低。在显示灰度“1”的放电单元中的亮度权重“1”的子场——在实施方式1中为第1SF——中进行写入操作,而在除此以外的子场中则不进行写入操作。在显示灰度“2”的放电单元中,只在具有亮度权重“2”的第2SF中进行写入操作。而且,虽然也有在显示灰度“3”时只在第3SF内进行写入操作的方法,但在实施方式1中,第3SF中并不进行写入操作,取而代之的是控制在第1SF及第2SF中进行写入操作。当显示其他灰度时,也是如图8所示来控制在各子场内进行写入操作或者不进行写入操作。并且,在实施方式1中,当显示各灰度时,在第3SF~第10SF中的任一个子场中进行写入操作的情况下,控制至少在第1SF或第2SF中进行写入操作。即,第3SF~第10SF是,仅当在第1SF中全单元初始化操作后至少在1个子场内进行了写入操作的情况下,进行写入操作的子场。换而言之,当在第1SF和第2SF中未进行写入操作的情况下,不会在第3SF~第10SF中进行写入操作。
如上所述的实施方式1中,第3SF以后的子场是,仅当在全单元初始化操作后至少在1个子场内进行了写入操作的情况下进行写入操作的规定子场。而且,第3SF是,以在全单元初始化操作后不在最初进行写入操作的方式而被驱动的子场中最初的子场。在满足这样的条件的子场中设置异常电荷消除期间。其理由如下。
如上所述,具有异常电荷的放电单元有可能会在各子场的维持期间内偶然产生维持放电。并且,一旦产生维持放电,维持放电就会持续到所述维持期间的最后为止。从而下述可能性较高,即由该维持放电产生的发光为,亮度权重越大的子场——在实施方式1中为越靠后配置的子场——越亮。不应发光的放电单元发出亮光时,会严重损害图像显示质量,因此,必须尽可能抑制由异常电荷引起的发光亮度。因此,优选的是,在全单元初始化操作之后,尽可能在靠前配置的子场中设置异常电荷消除期间,以消除异常电荷。
但是已经明确的是,例如,在高温或低温等非常严酷的环境下使用面板时,尽管全单元初始化操作正常进行,但是有可能会产生在异常电荷消除期间内进行放电的放电单元。并且,如上所述,由于一旦在异常电荷消除期间内进行了放电的放电单元在接下来的子场写入期间无法进行写入操作,所以有可能会降低图像显示质量。
还已经明确的是,这样的现象集中出现在产生维持放电机会较少的放电单元中,在产生维持放电时会消除。
因此,在实施方式1中,将异常电荷消除期间设置在第3SF中,而非设置在全单元初始化操作后最早的第1SF中。因此,例如当在第1SF或者第2SF中进行了写入操作时,会在第1SF或者第2SF中产生维持放电,所以在第3SF的异常电荷消除期间内不会进行放电,能够在其后的子场中正常地进行写入操作。另一方面,当在第1SF及第2SF中未进行写入操作时,有可能会在第3SF的异常电荷消除期间内进行放电。但是,即使在第3SF的异常电荷消除期间内产生放电,但在其后的子场中未进行正常的写入操作,也不会破坏图像显示质量。其原因在于,第3SF以后的子场是仅当全单元初始化操作后至少在1个子场内进行了写入操作时才进行写入操作的规定子场。因此,当在第1SF及第2SF中未进行写入操作时,在第3SF以后的子场内进行写入操作是不可能的。
接下来,对在异常电荷消除期间内产生驱动电压波形40的方法进行说明。图9是实施方式1的扫描电极驱动电路53的电路图。扫描电极驱动电路53包括产生维持脉冲的维持脉冲产生电路100、产生初始化波形的初始化波形产生电路300、以及产生扫描脉冲的扫描脉冲产生电路400。
维持脉冲产生电路100包括电力回收电路110、开关元件SW1和开关元件SW2,所述电力回收电路110是用来将驱动扫描电极22时的电力回收再利用,所述开关元件SW1是用来将扫描电极22钳位于电压Vs,开关元件SW2是用来将扫描电极22钳位于0V。
初始化波形产生电路300包括,密勒积分电路310和密勒积分电路320,所述密勒积分电路310是在初始化期间内产生缓慢上升的倾斜波形电压,所述密勒积分电路320是产生缓慢下降的倾斜波形电压。
扫描脉冲产生电路400包括:用于在写入期间内产生电压Vc的电源Vx;用于将电源的低电压侧钳位于电压Va的开关元件SW3;用于输出分别施加至各个扫描电极SC1~SCn的扫描脉冲的切换部OUT1~OUTn。并且,各个切换部OUT1~OUTn包括,用于输出电压Vc的开关元件SWH1~SWHn和用于输出电压Va的开关元件SWL1~SWLn。在图9中,为了便于观察图,只显示了切换部OUT1的开关元件SWH1和SWL1、切换部OUT2的开关元件SWH2和SWL2、以及切换部OUTn的开关元件SWHn和SWLn。
接下来,说明扫描电极驱动电路53的操作。图10是用于说明异常电荷消除期间内的扫描电极驱动电路53的操作的时序图。另外,在以下的说明中,将使开关元件导通的操作称作接通(ON),将使开关元件阻断的操作称作切断(OFF)。
首先,直到时刻t1为止,对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加0V。从而,维持脉冲产生电路100的开关元件SW2和切换部OUT1~OUTn的开关元件SWL1~SWLn接通,而除此以外的开关元件则切断。
在时刻t1,将维持脉冲产生电路100的开关元件SW2设为切断,将开关元件SW1设为接通。于是,经由开关元件SW1和开关元件SWL1~SWLn,对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加电压Vs。
此时,在具有异常电荷的放电单元的扫描电极SC1~SCn上蓄积正的壁电压,在维持电极SU1~SUn上蓄积负的壁电压,因此扫描电极SC1~SCn上与维持电极SU1~SUn上的电压差超过放电开始电压而产生放电。并且,在扫描电极SC1~SCn上蓄积负的壁电压,在维持电极SU1~SUn上蓄积正的壁电压。另外,通常在不具有异常电荷的放电单元中不会产生放电,但是,如上所述,当在非常严酷的环境下使用面板时,有可能在产生维持放电机会较少的放电单元中产生放电。
在时刻t2,将维持脉冲产生电路100的开关元件SW1设为切断,将SW2设为接通,暂时使扫描电极SC1~SCn恢复到0V。其后,将维持脉冲产生电路100的开关元件SW2设为切断,将扫描脉冲产生电路400的开关元件SW3设为接通。于是,经由开关元件SW2和开关元件SWL1~SWLn,对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加电压Va。
于是,在时刻t1之后产生了放电的放电单元中,扫描电极SC1~SCn上和维持电极SU1~SUn上的电压差再次超过放电开始电压而产生放电。但是,此时施加至维持电极SU1~SUn的电压为0V,扫描电极SC1~SCn上与维持电极SU1~SUn上的电压差并不大幅超过放电开始电压,因此,扫描电极SC1~SCn上和维持电极SU1~SUn上的壁电压被消除。
另一方面,由于在未蓄积异常电荷的正常的放电单元中仅施加放电开始电压以下的电压,所以不会产生放电,而保持着初始化期间结束后的壁电压。
在时刻t3,将切换部OUT1~OUTn的开关元件SWL1~SWLn设为切断,将开关元件SWH1~SWHn设为接通,对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加电压Vc。在此以后是写入期间。这样,在异常电荷消除期间内,扫描电极驱动电路53对扫描电极SC1~SCn施加矩形波形电压。
另外,在实施方式1中,将从时刻t1到时刻t2为止的时间设定为10μsec,优选的是,该时间设定在5μsec~30μsec之间。而且,在实施方式1中,将从时刻t2到时刻t3为止的时间设定为10μsec,优选的是,该时间设定在1μsec~30μsec之间。
(实施方式2)
另外,在实施方式1中,是将具备异常电荷消除期间的子场(以下,简称为“异常电荷消除子场”)设为了第3SF。但是,当第1SF或第2SF的维持期间内的维持脉冲数较少时,有时优选的是,将在第3SF之后的子场上配置异常电荷消除子场。
图11是表示本发明实施方式2的子场结构的图。第1SF是全单元初始化子场,第2SF~第10SF是选择初始化子场。并且,实施方式2是,以在第4SF上设置有异常电荷消除期间作为特征,除此以外的子场中未设置异常电荷消除期间。另外,图11概略表示面板的驱动电压波形的1个场,各子场的详细波形则如图5、图6和图7所示。
在实施方式2中,也是以下述方式进行驱动,即,在第3SF以后的子场中进行写入操作的情况下,第1SF或第2SF中也一定被驱动为进行写入操作。从而,在第4SF中进行写入操作时,也一定在第1SF或第2SF中进行写入操作。
另外在上文中已进行了说明,当在严酷的环境下使用面板时,即便是正常地进行了全单元初始化操作的放电单元,也有可能会在异常电荷消除期间内进行放电,但是一旦产生维持放电,就没有这样的可能性了。然而,即便是产生了维持放电的放电单元,但当所述维持放电的次数极少时,仍有可能在异常电荷消除期间内进行放电。并且,当亮度倍率设定得较小时,亮度权重较小的第1SF的维持脉冲数变少,即便在第1SF内进行了维持放电,仍有可能在异常电荷消除期间内进行放电。
但是,在实施方式2中,由于在较第3SF更靠后配置的第4SF中具备了异常电荷消除期间,所以在异常电荷消除子场以前产生维持放电的次数及其概率会增加,从而可以进一步降低正常进行了全单元初始化操作的放电单元在异常电荷消除期间内进行放电的可能性。如上所述,在实施方式2中,与实施方式1相同,是将仅当全单元初始化操作后在至少1个子场内进行了写入操作时才进行写入操作的子场设为规定子场。并且,在该规定子场中从最初起第2个配置的子场的初始化期间之后,设置对扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间。根据这样的结构,即便是产生了维持放电的放电单元,当所述维持放电的次数极少时,也能够降低其在异常电荷消除期间内进行放电的可能性。
另外,虽然可以为对规定子场中的配置于从最初的子场起第3个以后的子场设置异常电荷消除期间,但优选的是,结合面板的特性而在最佳的子场设置异常电荷消除期间。
另外,本发明中,子场数和各子场的亮度权重并不限定于上述值,其同样可以适用其他子场结构。
进一步,实施方式2中所使用的具体的各数值只不过是举的一个例,优选的是,根据面板的特性和等离子体显示装置1的规格等,设定最佳值。
工业利用可能性
本发明可提供不会发生误点灯而不会使图像显示质量大幅下降的面板的驱动方法,因此适合用作等离子体显示面板的驱动方法和等离子体显示装置。

Claims (5)

1、等离子体显示面板的驱动方法,所述等离子体显示面板具有多个放电单元,所述放电单元具有由扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对,所述驱动方法的特征在于:
通过配置多个子场来构成1个场期间,所述子场包括在所述放电单元产生初始化放电的初始化期间、在所述放电单元进行写入操作的写入期间、和在进行所述写入操作而产生了写入放电的放电单元产生维持放电的维持期间,
在至少1个子场的初始化期间内,对进行图像显示的全部放电单元进行产生初始化操作的全单元初始化操作,
在所述全单元初始化操作后,仅当在至少1个子场内进行了写入操作的情况下,才进行控制使得存在多个在此后的写入期间进行写入操作的规定子场,从而进行灰度显示,
在所述规定子场中的至少1个子场的初始化期间之后,设置对所述扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间。
2、根据权利要求1所述的等离子体显示面板的驱动方法,其特征在于:在所述规定子场中最初配置的子场的初始化期间之后,设置对所述扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间。
3、根据权利要求1所述的等离子体显示面板的驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述规定子场中从最初起第2个配置的子场的初始化期间之后,设置对所述扫描电极施加矩形波形电压的异常电荷消除期间。
4、等离子体显示面板的驱动方法,是通过配置不同的子场来构成1个场期间而进行图像显示,
所述不同子场中包括:
具有进行使进行图像显示的全部放电单元内产生放电的全单元初始化操作的初始化期间、在所述放电单元内进行写入操作的写入期间、以及使所述放电单元内产生维持放电的维持期间的子场,和,
具有进行使所选择的放电单元内产生放电的初始化操作的初始化期间、在所述放电单元内进行写入操作的写入期间、以及使所述放电单元内产生维持放电的维持期间的子场,
所述驱动方法的特征在于:
在进行了所述全单元初始化操作的初始化期间之后的写入期间内进行写入操作,进而在此后子场的至少1个子场的初始化期间之后,对扫描电极施加矩形波形电压,之后进行写入操作。
5、等离子体显示装置,其特征在于包括:
等离子体显示面板,其具有多个放电单元,所述放电单元具有由扫描电极和维持电极构成的显示电极对;以及
驱动电路,其通过配置多个子场来构成1个场期间,从而驱动所述等离子体显示面板,所述子场包括在所述放电单元产生初始化放电的初始化期间、在所述放电单元进行写入操作的写入期间、和在进行所述写入操作而产生了写入放电的放电单元产生维持放电的维持期间,
所述驱动电路,
在至少1个子场的初始化期间内,对进行图像显示的全部放电单元进行产生初始化操作的全单元初始化操作,
在全单元初始化操作后,仅当在至少1个子场内进行了写入操作的情况下,才进行控制使得存在多个进行写入操作的规定子场,从而进行灰度显示,
在所述规定子场中的至少1个子场的初始化期间之后,对所述扫描电极施加矩形波形电压。
