Abstract

Description
技术领域
本发明大体上涉及同轴电缆连接器领域,且更明确地说涉及一种与硬线同轴电缆一同使用的压缩式耦合连接器。
背景技术
同轴电缆是用于通信网络(例如CATV网络)的典型传输介质。构成网络传输部分的电缆通常为“硬线”类型,而用于将信号分布到住宅和商店的那些电缆通常为“分接”连接器。除了电缆尺寸之外,硬线与分接电缆(Drop cable)之间的主要差异在于硬线电缆包括通常以天气保护封套覆盖的刚性或半刚性外导体,其可有效防止辐射泄漏并保护内导体和电介质,而分接连接器包括通常为编织的相对柔韧外导体,其允许其围绕位于转换盒或接线盒与信号所传送到的装置(即电视机、计算机及类似物)的位置之间的障碍物而弯曲,但其并不能有效防止辐射泄漏。相反,硬线导体大体上沿相对较直的路径跨越相当长的距离,从而实际上消除了对电缆柔韧性的需要。由于硬线和分接连接器(drop conncetor)的尺寸、材料组成和性能特征存在差异,因此在与这些类型的电缆一同使用的连接器的设计中存在着不同的技术考虑。
在构造和维护网络(例如CATV网络)时,传输电缆经常互连到调节所传输信号的电气设备。电气设备通常被罩在盒子中,盒子可位于室外的一根杆(或类似物)上,或位于地下(可通过盖罩而到达)。在任一情况下,盒子都具有可连接传输电缆的标准端口。为保持信号的电学完整性,关键是使传输电缆紧固地互连到端口而不破坏电缆的接地连接。这要求熟练的技术人员来实现此相互连接。
目前,在使用市售的三片连接器时,在使连接器的前端和后端部分相互紧固之前将此连接器紧固在电缆的外导体上是不实际的。如此将防止紧固到电缆的部分自由转动,因此防止其轻易螺接到紧固于线路设备(分接头、放大器等等)中的部分上。而是要求安装人员在将连接器的两部分收紧在一起的同时保持将电缆稳固地对接于连接器中,否则,中心导体卡紧机制可能将中心导体紧固于错误位置(从而导致不充分的电缆保持力和电连接)。必须将电缆保持在适当位置同时也必须操作两个扳手可能不方便。另外,不可能在没有首先将电缆从连接器释放的情况下将电缆从线路设备断开,从而破坏原本是用于执行维护或测试的良好连接接线。通常,为在重新安装时确保良好连接,标准操作是切断并重新准备电缆,其最终使电缆缩短到需要绞接或接入一段附加电缆的位置。
发明内容
简单地说,用于将硬线电缆连接到设备端口的压缩连接器主体形成于通过耦合螺帽而彼此耦合的两个部件中。端口侧部件罩住导电插脚和相关元件,而电缆侧部件通过压缩配合而附着到电缆。通过此配置,当维护设备时,可在不影响电缆与电缆侧部件之间连接的情况下从端口侧部件去除电缆侧部件和附着的电缆。随后将端口侧部件从设备端口断开。在维护设备之后,将端口侧部件重新连接到设备端口,随后将电缆侧部件重新连接到端口侧部件,因此减少了切割并准备一段新的长度的电缆连接到设备端口的需要。
根据本发明的实施例,电缆连接器包括:一前主体,其适合于连接到一设备端口;一后主体,其适合于接收硬线同轴电缆的一准备好的末端;一耦合器螺帽,其保持在所述后主体上,所述耦合器螺帽旋入所述前主体中;一导电插脚,其通过一绝缘体而保持在所述前主体中,所述导电插脚包括一用于连接到所述设备端口的前末端和一后末端,其中所述后末端包括一夹头,所述夹头用于连接到并保持所述电缆的一中心导体;一心轴,其保持在所述后主体中;连接构件,其用于将所述电缆连接到所述后主体;一凸肩,其形成于所述后主体的一前末端中;和一螺脊,其位于所述耦合器螺帽的内部上,其中所述耦合器螺帽在所述后主体上保持于所述后主体的所述凸肩与所述心轴的凸肩之间。
根据本发明的实施例,构造电缆连接器的方法包括以下步骤:(a)提供一适合于连接到设备端口的前主体;(b)调适一后主体以接收一硬线同轴电缆的一准备好的末端;(c)将一耦合器螺帽保持在所述后主体上,所述耦合器螺帽旋入所述前主体中;(d)通过一绝缘体将一导电插脚保持在所述前主体中,所述导电插脚包括一用于连接到所述设备端口的前末端和一后末端,其中所述后末端包括一夹头,所述夹头用于连接到并保持所述电缆的一中心导体;(e)将一心轴保持在所述后主体中;(f)将所述电缆连接到所述后主体;(g)在所述后主体的一前末端中形成一凸肩;(h)在所述耦合器螺帽的内部上形成一螺脊;和(i)在所述后主体上将所述耦合器螺帽保持于所述后主体的所述凸肩与所述心轴的凸肩之间。

具体实施方式
参看图1,其展示同轴电缆70的截面。中心导体72由电介质74包围,而电介质74又由接地鞘套76包围。这些层随后由外涂层78包围。中心导体72和接地鞘套76必须为导电的,而电介质74必须为电绝缘体。电缆70展示为“准备好的”配置,其中中心导体72从电介质74和接地鞘套76延伸,且外涂层78从其他层上向后拉伸。
参看图2,其展示一同轴电缆连接器5的实施例。前主体10通过耦合器螺帽38与后主体12互连。前主体10包括复数条螺纹14,螺纹14将连接器5旋合到设备端口80(图3)。除了用于O形环(未图示)的环形槽36之外,前主体10进一步包括保持O形环(未图示)的环形槽34,在安装连接器5时所述O形环将前主体10密封到设备端口80。前主体10还包括复数条外螺纹18。前主体10含有接点绝缘体20,其使接点22的插脚部分24绝缘以防意外接地。接点22包括夹头部分26,其卡紧并保持同轴电缆70的中心导体72。用于中心导体72的导向器28优选配合在环30上,环30处于夹头部分26中的环形槽32中。在将中心导体72插入夹头部分26中时,环30有助于卡紧并保持中心导体72的夹头部分26的弹簧力。环30优选为“C形夹”,例如VH & VS LightDuty系列的扣环,FH & FS/FHE&FSE系列的卡环,或具有特殊末端的特殊螺旋扣环,以上所有环都由Smedley Steel公司制造(www.smalley.com)。
后主体12含有心轴42,其视情况与导向器28形成为整体。心轴42的部分82与后主体12之间是各种压缩配合元件,即RFI密封层44、斜面46、夹紧密封层48、压缩环50,和用于O形环(未图示)的环形槽54,在于2003年10月15日申请的题为“APPARATUSFOR MAKING PERMANENT HARDLINE CONNECTION”的美国专利申请案序列号第10/686,204号中详细描述了以上元件,所述申请案以引用的方式并入本文中。后主体12包括用于O形环(未图示)的环形槽52。当电缆70连接到连接器5的后主体12时,心轴42的部分82配合于接地鞘套76与电介质74之间,以使得在对压缩配合施加如图所示的轴向力X时,压缩配合元件夹在接地鞘套76上。虽然连接器5是用于和永久压缩配合一同使用,但与螺纹配合或卷曲式配合一同使用也可能提供类似的优点。
耦合器螺帽38包括复数条内螺纹40,其与前主体10的外螺纹18对接。耦合器螺帽38的螺脊84配合于环形通道86内,环形通道86由心轴凸肩88和后主体凸肩90形成。安置于螺脊84与凸肩88之间的塑料推力轴承92允许耦合器螺帽38在拧紧或拧松时旋转到前主体10上。耦合器螺帽38是自由轮转耦合器螺帽,这是因为它在螺纹40未与螺纹18对接时可不受妨碍地转动。
参看图3到图7,同轴电缆70如下连接到设备端口80。如图3所示,前主体10被旋入设备端口80或其他连接中。请注意,耦合器螺帽38已安装在后主体12上。如图4所示,经过后主体12的后部插入电缆70的准备好的一末端。如图5所示,通过施加如图所示的压缩轴向力X将电缆70连接到连接器5的后主体12。随后,如图6所示,将中心导体72插入夹头部分26中,其中夹头部分26的弹簧动作有助于将中心导体72紧固到接点22,此后将耦合器螺帽38旋合到前主体10上。如图7所示,电缆70现通过连接器5而连接到设备端口80。通过简单地从前主体10拧下耦合器螺帽38即可在不从电缆70上拆下连接器5的情况下容易地断开此连接以进行设备维护。在维护设备之后,将耦合器螺帽38旋合到前主体10上可将电缆70重新连接到设备端口80。因为连接器5不需要热收缩,所以连接器5的使用和再使用的有利之处在于,不需要花费时间来消除热收缩,不需要花费时间来尝试从后主体12释放电缆70,且因与使用普通连接器人工操作电缆相关联的进/出潮气损坏所导致的维护呼叫减少。因为RF屏蔽、环境密封和电缆上的电缆夹绝不会因多次使用而退化,所以也可推算出维护回呼的数目。一旦在初始安装时建立接地连接,其便再也不会被破坏。
连接器5是设计仅与结合电缆一同使用。为提供无损多次断开的益处,连接器并非以和传统硬线连接器相同的方式来“卡紧”中心导体。电接点是牢固和可靠的,其插入损失满足SCTE规范,但在不可能弯曲或延长中心导体的情况下,允许中心导体轴向移入和移出接线端。使用结合电缆防止了在寒冷天气中“吸出”的可能性。通过使接触点与中心导体末端重叠防护了可能发生的中心导体的微小独立运动。
硬线连接器的耦合器设计的独特性在于连接器保持完全附着到电缆外导体的能力,同时仍允许电缆和连接器从设备端口断开。其以与分接(柔韧性)同轴电缆的典型连接器几乎相同的方式来实施此做法。然而,不同于简单提供其中电缆穿过连接器进入设备的直通连接(feed-through connection),硬线耦合连接器使用连接于端口与电缆之间的整体接口适配器。当分离连接器时,连接器的这部分保留在设备端口中。另外,在构造、使用和准备方面,使用典型分接连接器的分接电缆与使用耦合器的硬线电缆之间存在着实质的差异。
虽然已参考特定优选实施例和附图描述了本发明,但所属领域的技术人员将了解到,本发明并不限于优选实施例,且可在不偏离所附权利要求书所界定的本发明的范围的情况下对其进行各种修改和类似处理。
Claims (6)
1.一种电缆连接器,其包含:
一前主体,其适合于连接到一设备端口;
一后主体,其适合于接收一硬线同轴电缆的一准备好的末端;
一耦合器螺帽,其保持在旋入所述前主体中的所述后主体上;
一导电插脚,其通过一绝缘体而保持在所述前主体中,所述导电插脚包括一用于连接到所述设备端口的前末端和一后末端,其中所述后末端包括一用于连接到并保持所述电缆的一中心导体的夹头以及增强了所述夹头与所述电缆的所述中心导体之间的过盈配合的一环;
一心轴,其保持在所述后主体中;
一保持在所述后主体中的永久压缩配件;
用于将所述电缆连接到所述后主体的构件;
一凸肩,其形成于所述后主体的一前末端中;
一螺脊,其位于所述耦合器螺帽的一内部上,其中所述耦合器螺帽在所述后主体上保持于所述后主体的所述凸肩与所述心轴的一凸肩之间,藉此所述前主体能自所述耦合器螺帽分离;和
一推力轴承,所述推力轴承安置于所述螺脊与所述心轴的所述凸肩之间。
2.根据权利要求1所述的电缆连接器,其进一步包含一导向器,所述导向器安置于所述前主体内,其中所述导向器的一部分过配合所述环。
3.根据权利要求1所述的电缆连接器,其中所述环安置于所述夹头中的一环形槽内。
4.一种构造一电缆连接器的方法,其包含以下步骤:
提供一适合于连接到一设备端口的前主体;
使一后主体适合接收一硬线同轴电缆的一准备好的末端;
将一耦合器螺帽保持在旋入所述前主体中的所述后主体上;
通过一绝缘体将一导电插脚保持在所述前主体中,所述导电插脚包括一用于连接到所述设备端口的前末端和一后末端,其中所述后末端包括一用于连接到并保持所述电缆的一中心导体的夹头;
在所述夹头的一末端周围安置一环,所述环增强了所述夹头与所述电缆的所述中心导体之间的过盈配合;
将一心轴保持在所述后主体中;
使用一保持在所述后主体中的永久压缩配件将所述电缆连接到所述后主体;
在所述后主体的一前末端中形成一凸肩;
在所述耦合器螺帽的一内部上形成一螺脊;和
在所述后主体上将所述耦合器螺帽保持于所述后主体的所述凸肩与所述心轴的一凸肩之间,藉此所述前主体能自所述耦合器螺帽分离;和
将一推力轴承安置于所述螺脊与所述心轴的所述凸肩之间。
5.根据权利要求4所述的方法,其进一步包含将一导向器安置于所述前主体内,其中所述导向器的一部分过配合所述环。
6.根据权利要求4所述的方法,其中所述环安置于所述夹头中的一环形槽内。
