背景技术
等离子体显示装置是使用气体放电过程产生的等离子来显示字符和图像的平板显示装置。其包括等离子体显示板(PDP),依照等离子体显示板的尺寸,PDP带有矩阵形式提供的几千万个像素。
根据PDP的典型驱动方法,将每个帧划分为多个子场,并且所显示的图像由子场的组合来表示。每个子场具有复位周期、寻址周期、和维持周期。在复位周期,擦除由之前维持放电形成的壁电荷,并且建立壁电荷从而可以稳定地执行下面的寻址。寻址周期用于选择导通/截止放电室(即,将被导通或截止的放电室)和在导通放电室(即,所寻址的放电室)上积累壁电荷。维持周期用于产生放电以在所寻址的放电室实际地显示图像。
图1示出了PDP的传统驱动波形。为了更好的理解和易于说明,只示出了多个子场中的两个子场,并且将这两个子场指示为第一子场和第二子场。此外,图1示出第一子场的复位周期(也被称为主复位周期)包括上升周期和下降周期,并且第二子场的复位周期(也被称为辅复位周期)只包括下降周期。

发明内容
本发明试图提供一种等离子体显示装置及其驱动方法,其具有防止误点火(misfire)的优点,误点火可能是由于不考虑在子场复位周期中施加的驱动波形而施加相同电平的偏置电压到维持电极而造成的。
根据本发明实施例的通过从帧划分的多个子场的等离子体显示装置的示例驱动方法用于驱动具有多个第一电极、多个第二电极、和构成在与第一和第二电极交叉的方向的多个第三电极的等离子体显示装置,其中每个子场包括维持、复位、和寻址周期。
根据示例驱动方法,在第一子场中,在第一子场的复位周期期间预置每个放电室,然后通过在用第一电压偏置第二电极的同时,分别施加第二和第三电压给第一和第三电极来选择导通放电室。

图2示出了根据本发明实施例的PDP的电极排列示意图。PDP的电极排列为n×m的矩阵形式。寻址电极A1到Am排列在列方向,而扫描电极Y1到Yn和维持电极X1到Xn在行方向排列成对。由在寻址电极A与一对扫描和维持电极Y、X的交叉区域处形成的放电空间形成放电室(之后称为放电室)12。

为了在维持周期期间实现等离子体显示装置的灰度级,通过交替地施加电平Vs的维持放电电压到扫描电极Y和维持电极X,在寻址周期期间所选择的放电室中产生放电。施加维持放电电压Vs,使得当扫描电极Y在Vs时,维持电极X不在Vs并且当维持电极X在Vs时,扫描电极Y不在Vs。
随后在辅复位周期期间,扫描电极Y的电压逐渐从在第一子场的维持周期期间施加到这个电极的维持放电电压Vs,降低到负电平的电压Vnf。在这样的只包括下降周期的辅复位周期期间,仅仅在之前子场所选择的放电室中执行复位操作而不是所有放电室。
在施加只具有下降周期的辅复位波形之前,最后施加到扫描电极Y的维持放电电压Vs导致相当量的负(-)和正(+)电荷分别在扫描和维持电极Y、X上积累。在寻址电极A上还积累正(+)电荷。
如上所述,复位周期用于在扫描和寻址电极Y、A上积累合适量的壁电荷,以有助于随后的寻址周期期间在这两个电极之间的寻址放电。另一方面,在施加辅复位波形到扫描电极Y的时候,在维持和扫描电极X、Y之间形成壁电压并且该壁电压高于在寻址和扫描电极A、Y之间形成的壁电压。由于这个壁电压分布,在寻址和扫描电极A、Y之间的放电之前,下降斜坡波形可能导致维持和扫描电极X、Y之间的放电。在这种情况下,维持和扫描电极X、Y之间的壁电荷在复位放电中充当了主要角色,从而适合于寻址的壁电荷可不形成在寻址和扫描电极A、Y之间,因此破坏了有效的寻址放电。即,在辅复位期间,分别积累在扫描和寻址电极Y、A上的负(-)和正(+)壁电荷与在主复位周期期间积累的壁电荷相比可能不足。这些壁电荷产生的壁电压比用于在随后的寻址周期期间有效放电所需的要小。
为了补偿上面的问题,在辅复位波形之后并且在第二子场的寻址周期期间,将偏置电压Ve′施加到维持电极X。Ve′高于在主复位波形后的第一子场的寻址周期期间施加到维持电极X上的偏置电压Ve。Ve′是在辅复位周期后的寻址周期期间允许稳定放电的电压电平。由于Ve′和在辅复位周期后剩余的壁电荷状态的组合效应导致这个稳定的放电。
最后,在用于实现等离子体显示装置的灰度级的维持周期期间,通过交替地施加电平Vs的维持放电电压到扫描和维持电极Y、X,在寻址周期所选择的放电室中产生放电。
如上所述,根据本发明的实施例,在寻址周期期间施加到维持电极X的偏置电压的电平根据壁电荷的状态而变化,该壁电荷的状态依赖于在之前的复位周期期间所施加的驱动波形。
更详细地,当复位周期既包括上升又包括下降周期,例如在图4示出的第一子场中,可在复位周期结束时形成足够的正(+)壁电荷。因此,在第一子场的寻址周期期间施加到维持电极X的偏置电压低于在第二子场的寻址周期期间施加的偏置电压。根据这个方案,可以防止壁电荷的过多积累,并且可以防止放电室的误点火(即,点火没有被导通的放电室)。
另一方面,在第二子场中,因为辅复位周期只包括下降斜坡波形而没有上升斜坡波形,在复位周期结束前在扫描和寻址电极Y、A上积累的壁电荷并不足够。在这种情况下,如果将与第一子场的寻址周期的偏置电压相同电平的偏置电压也在第二子场期间施加到维持电极X,则更加恶化了寻址放电。因此,当复位周期只包括下降周期时,将与在第一子场的寻址周期期间施加的偏置电压相比有较高电平的偏置电压施加到维持电极X。这个较高的偏置电压有助于稳定寻址放电。
当将帧划分为子场时,在寻址周期开始时的壁电荷状态可依照子场和在每个子场的复位周期期间施加的波形而变化。通过基于壁电荷状态在寻址周期期间改变施加到维持电极X的偏置电压的电平可以实现稳定的寻址操作。
如上所述,根据本发明的实施例,通过依照在复位周期期间施加的驱动波形来改变在寻址周期期间施加到维持电极上的偏置电压的电平,可以防止在只具有下降周期的复位周期后由不足的壁电荷导致的有缺陷的寻址放电。
虽然结合现在被认为是实际示例的实施例的内容说明了本发明,应该理解本发明并不限于所公开的实施例,相反地,本发明试图覆盖在所附的权利要求书的要旨和范围内所包括的各种变化和等效布置。
Claims (19)
1、一种通过从帧划分的多个子场的等离子体显示板的驱动方法,等离子体显示板具有构成平行对的扫描电极和维持电极,等离子体显示板还具有沿与平行对交叉的方向延伸的寻址电极,等离子体显示板还包括在寻址电极与平行对交叉的区域形成的放电室,每个子场包括复位周期、随后的寻址周期、随后的维持周期,该驱动方法包括:
通过施加第一电压波形到扫描电极,在第一子场的复位周期期间预置每个放电室;
通过施加第二电压波形到扫描电极并且施加第三电压波形到寻址电极,同时施加第四电压波形到维持电极,在第一子场的寻址周期期间选择第一组导通放电室;
通过施加第五电压波形到扫描电极,在第二子场的复位周期期间预置第一组导通放电室;
通过施加第二电压波形到扫描电极并且施加第三电压波形到寻址电极,同时施加第六电压波形到维持电极,在第二子场的寻址周期期间选择第二组导通放电室,
其中第四电压波形包括第一恒定偏置电压,
其中第六电压波形包括第二恒定偏置电压,和
其中第二恒定偏置电压比第一恒定偏置电压更正性。
2、根据权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其中用于预置每个放电室而施加到扫描电极的第一电压波形包括在第一子场期间的一逐渐增加的电压和一逐渐降低的电压。
3、根据权利要求2所述的驱动方法,其中在第一子场的复位周期期间,该逐渐增加的电压逐渐增加到一正电压。
4、根据权利要求2所述的驱动方法,其中在第二子场期间用于预置导通放电室而施加到扫描电极的第五电压波形只包括逐渐降低的电压。
5、根据权利要求2所述的驱动方法,其中在第一子场的复位周期期间,该逐渐降低的电压逐渐降低到一负电压。
6、根据权利要求4所述的驱动方法,其中在第二子场的复位周期期间,该逐渐降低的电压逐渐地降低到一负电压。
7、根据权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其中第一恒定偏置电压和第二恒定偏置电压都是正的。
8、一种等离子体显示装置包括:
等离子体显示板,其包括扫描电极、维持电极、和形成在与扫描电极和维持电极交叉的方向中的寻址电极,以帧驱动等离子体显示板,帧包括子场;和
驱动电路,在子场期间提供驱动信号给扫描电极、维持电极、和寻址电极,
其中每个子场包括复位周期、随后的寻址周期、随后的维持周期,
其中在第一子场期间该驱动电路执行:
通过施加第一电压波形到扫描电极,在第一子场的复位周期期间预置每个放电室;
通过施加第二电压波形到扫描电极并且施加第三电压波形到寻址电极,同时施加第四电压波形到维持电极,在第一子场的寻址周期期间选择第一组导通放电室;
其中在第二子场期间该驱动电路执行:
通过施加第五电压波形到扫描电极,在第二子场的复位周期期间预置第一组导通放电室;和
通过施加第二电压波形到扫描电极并且施加第三电压波形到寻址电极,同时施加第六电压波形到维持电极,在第二子场的寻址周期期间选择第二组导通放电室,
其中第四电压波形包括第一恒定偏置电压,
其中第六电压波形包括第二恒定偏置电压,和
其中第二恒定偏置电压比第一恒定偏置电压更正性。
9、根据权利要求8所述的等离子体显示装置,其中驱动电路在第一子场的复位周期期间施加包括逐渐增加的电压和逐渐降低的电压的第一电压波形到扫描电极。
10、根据权利要求9所述的等离子体显示装置,其中在第一子场的复位周期期间,该逐渐增加的电压逐渐增加到一正电压。
11、根据权利要求9所述的等离子体显示装置,其中驱动电压在第二子场的复位周期期间施加只包括逐渐降低的电压的第五电压波形到扫描电极。
12、根据权利要求9所述的等离子体显示装置,其中在第一子场的复位周期期间,该逐渐降低的电压逐渐降低到一负电压。
13、根据权利要求11所述的等离子体显示装置,其中在第二子场的复位周期期间,该逐渐降低的电压逐渐地降低到一负电压。
14、根据权利要求8所述的等离子体显示装置,其中第一恒定偏置电压和第二恒定偏置电压都是正的。
15、一种等离子体显示装置包括:
控制器,用于从外部源接收视频信号和产生控制信号;
等离子体显示板,包括用于显示图像的像素、形成平行对的扫描电极和维持电极、与平行对交叉的寻址电极、在寻址电极与平行对交叉之处形成的放电室,在帧期间操作等离子体显示装置,每个帧包括子场,每个子场包括复位周期、之后的寻址周期、之后的维持周期;
扫描电极驱动器,耦合到控制器和等离子体显示板,用于接收由控制器产生的控制信号和施加扫描电压波形到扫描电极;
寻址电极驱动器,耦合到控制器和等离子体显示板,用于接收由控制器产生的控制信号和施加寻址电压波形到寻址电极;以及
维持电极驱动器,耦合到控制器和等离子体显示板,用于接收由控制器产生的控制信号和施加维持电压波形到维持电极,
其中基于子场的扫描电压波形,控制器改变子场的维持电压波形,
其中在第一子场的复位周期期间施加的扫描电压波形包括上升电压斜坡和下降电压斜坡,
其中在第二子场的复位周期期间施加的扫描电压波形只包括下降电压斜坡,
其中维持电压波形包括与第一子场的复位周期的下降电压斜坡一起施加的第一恒定偏置电压电平,
其中维持电压波形包括与第二子场的复位周期的下降电压斜坡一起施加的第二恒定偏置电压电平,以及
其中第二恒定偏置电压电平比第一恒定偏置电压电平更正性。
16、根据权利要求15所述的等离子体显示装置,
其中在第一子场的复位周期期间施加的下降电压斜坡在第一子场的复位周期结束前下降到一负电压,和
其中在第二子场的复位周期期间施加的下降电压斜坡在第二子场的复位周期结束前下降到一负电压。
17、根据权利要求15所述的等离子体显示装置,其中所有子场的维持电压波形包括在该子场的维持周期期间在正电压和零之间交替变化的电压。
18、根据权利要求1所述的驱动方法,其中第一组导通放电室和第二组导通放电室相同。
19、根据权利要求8所述的等离子体显示装置,其中第一组导通放电室和第二组导通放电室相同。
